LONDON, United Kingdom – December 6^th 2023 – Samsung Electronics and Mastercard today announced their partnership on a newly launched Mastercard programme: Wallet Express. The service provides banks and card issuers with a swift and cost-effective means of expanding their digital wallet offerings.

By incorporating Wallet Express, issuers can provide their customers with Samsung Wallet. In turn, consumers have a wide range of ways to pay, including with their Galaxy wearable devices. Paying with a Galaxy Watch brings greater speed and convenience to the in-store shopping experience.

Samsung Wallet, which launched last year, brings together the mobile payment experience of Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass into a more comprehensive digital wallet that allows users to organise digital keys, boarding passes, identification cards and more, in one, easy-to-use and secure mobile application.

Consumers across the United Kingdom are increasingly using digital wallets for both in-store and online payments. Building on the success of the launch of Wallet Express, Mastercard is also launching the next two iterations for 2024 of the Wallet Express Issuer Enablement Programme for all issuers in the Europe region.

The programme aims to further simplify the process for issuers in enabling and facilitating Samsung Pay, offering consumers one of the largest digital wallet platforms in Samsung Wallet. By participating in the programme, issuers can enhance their capabilities to support Samsung Wallet, ultimately empowering consumers with full payment options.

Mastercard will enable a participating issuer for eligible Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES) wallets launched in the respective countries without the need to raise wallet onboarding projects for the target wallets.

From now until 3^rd January 2019, the value of one school meal^[1] will be donated to the World Food Programme each time a payment transaction is made by a Samsung Pay user in the UK with Mastercard. Donations will support the World Food Programme’s school meals project, which provides daily hot meals to school children in developing countries around the world so they have the energy necessary to focus on their education.

Mark Barnett, president of Mastercard in the UK, said: “We want to reinforce Mastercard’s global commitment of delivering 100 million meals, and we are grateful to Samsung and the critical role they are playing in helping us reach this target and raise awareness of the critical issue of hunger.”

Samsung Pay enables users to make faster and smarter purchases directly via a number of Samsung devices^[2]. The service is currently available with Mastercard through HSBC UK, Santander, John Lewis Partnership Card, M&S Bank, Starling Bank, Danske Bank and Cornercard UK^[3].

Starting on 2^nd April and continuing every Monday throughout the month^[1], Samsung Pay users in the UK can enjoy free travel across the Transport for London (TfL) network when using a compatible Mastercard^[2].

Over the five promotional Mondays, all passengers on London’s transport network touching in and out using Samsung Pay, whether visitors to London or regular commuters, will benefit from a refund from Mastercard of up to £32.50 per promotional day. Customers can travel on Tube, buses, tram, DLR, London Overground, Emirates Air Line cable car and most National Rail services in London.

Plus, when GB customers use their Samsung Pay with MasterCard five times before the end of April, they can receive a £10 voucher to spend at Costa Coffee^[3]. The voucher will appear in their Samsung Pay app voucher folder and can be redeemed at any of Costa Coffee’s 2,380 branches in England, Scotland and Wales, across multiple transactions, until the £10 runs out.

Mastercard and Samsung Pay is available to HSBC, John Lewis Partnership, M&S Bank, MBNA, Santander and Danske Bank customers^[4].

Whether it’s a contactless Mastercard, a Mastercard loaded into Samsung Pay or other various payment methods, each completed journey will provide a school meal for a child in need, through Mastercard’s partnership with the UN World Food Programme (WFP). This is the first campaign of its kind on London’s transport network.
Customers can use on Trams, DLR, London Overground, TfL Rail, Emirates Air Line, River Bus and most National Rail services in London, and a meal will be donated for every single journey made using a Mastercard.

Samsung has also worked with TfL on exclusive functionality for Samsung Pay that allows users to set a payment card up as a ‘transport card’ to use on all TfL services and most National Rail services in London, allowing them to simply tap their phone against the card reader, eliminating the need to wake their phone or verify with a fingerprint or passcode.
