Continued Support of the Paralympic Movement

Samsung’s support of the Paralympic Games Paris 2024 follows an 18-year partnership which began at the Torino 2006 Paralympic Winter Games. During this time, Samsung has used its mobile technology to engage and inspire fans and supporters while raising awareness of the Paralympic Movement. The “Dialogue in the Dark” demonstration at Sochi 2014 saw visitors at the Galaxy Studio Olympic Park experience a day in the life of a visually impaired person to help visitors understand the challenges they can experience from their perspective. Similarly, at PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, visitors at the Samsung experience space were able to try the Relúmĭno feature in conjunction with Samsung Gear VR, which helped those with low vision see the world more clearly. Samsung will continue to promote sporting excellence and shared values embodied by Paralympic athletes through its ongoing support of the Paralympic Games Paris 2024.

Championing Team Samsung Galaxy Trailblazers

For the Paralympic Games Paris 2024, Samsung has been supporting its roster of Team Samsung Galaxy athletes. The team of trailblazers, who were selected due to their impact on and off the field of play, includes French blind footballer and Olympic Torchbearer Yvan Wouandji and Paralympians Johannes Floors (para athletics, Germany), Madison De Rozario (para athletics, Australia), Ugo Didier (para swimming, France), Hee-jin Kim (goalball, Korea), Kadeena Cox (para cycling, Great Britain) and Desirée Vila (para athletics, Spain). The athletes shared their sentiments regarding Samsung’s support:

To enhance the athlete experience, Samsung is providing nearly 5,000 Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition smartphones to Paralympians competing in the Games. The exclusive edition features a suite of built-in services and apps to help athletes to enjoy Paris and navigate every aspect of their Games-time experience with ease. The Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition supports the latest Galaxy AI features — as well as accessibility features — ensuring all Paralympians have the best experience possible.

Interpreter, which instantly translates live conversations^[1], will allow all Paralympians to connect with fellow athletes from around the world. Bixby Vision for Accessibility, which gives audio descriptions of images and user surroundings, and Relúmĭno outline, which enhances the screen’s contrast and brightness or sharpens image outlines to increase visibility, allowing athletes with low vision to seamlessly navigate competition venues and stay connected with fans following their Paris 2024 journey.

Opening Up Fan Experiences To Put the Paralympic Spirit in Motion

The start of the Paralympic Games also marks the next wave of the popular Samsung Olympic Games Pin Collection, taking place at the fully accessible Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung pop-up experiences at Champs-Elysees 125 and Square Marigny in Paris. Fans of the Paralympic Games can participate in Galaxy AI experiences to complete their collection of 16 specially-designed pins, including four that represent Paralympic sports — blind football, para athletics, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis — to receive a new Galaxy Z Flip6 and a chance to win a round-trip package for two to attend Milano Cortina 2026. One standout Galaxy AI feature in the new Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 instantly translates real-time conversations and offers live translations^[i] when users speak face-to-face through the unique dual screens on the foldables. Fans across Paris — who have been lining up at Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung at Champs-Elysees 125 and Square Marigny to experience the latest Galaxy devices — agree as well.

“I can see how helpful the translation feature would be,” said Josefine Christoffersen, a visitor from Sweden who speaks Swedish and English. Since arriving on Saturday, she has enjoyed meeting people from all over the world at her first visit to the Olympic Games.

So far, Christoffersen has cheered on her favourite athletes while watching athletics, beach volleyball and handball. On Tuesday, she tried her hand at the Samsung Olympic Games Pin Master Challenge at Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Square Marigny.

Siqi Chen, a student from China, has been living in France for five years. She visited Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Elysees 125 to check out the latest Galaxy AI innovations.

“Since moving to France, I’ve been travelling all around Europe and visiting lots of other countries,” said Chen who speaks Chinese, English and French. “Interpreter is very helpful and convenient in these moments — when I visit Spain, for example, I can speak Spanish using Galaxy AI!”

Kenny Goma, a Samsung promoter at Olympic rendezvous @ Samsung | Champs-Elysees 125, has been engaging with fans and visitors from around the world. Originally from Martinique, he has been living in Paris for 12 years and working at the pop-up experience since it opened in early May.

“People have been impressed when I show them the cover screen,” said Goma. “Even if it’s hard for them to hear, they can read the translation on the screen which is so helpful. They don’t even have to be connected to the network. They immediately recognise the impact, and it’s one of the most popular features here at the pop-up experience.”

The benefits of Galaxy AI are making a difference for the thousands of volunteers who are helping ensure the Paris 2024 Olympics is a smooth and fun experience for all. Emmanuel Mantilla Jr. from the Philippines has been in Paris since July 25 to volunteer at the Olympic Games for the first time.

“My first few days here were a little overwhelming because even though I speak several languages, I don’t speak French,” said Mantilla Jr. who has been stationed at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. “People thought maybe I couldn’t help them.”

“But Interpreter has been so helpful — not only for communicating with visitors but also with my fellow volunteers. I’ve been using the feature on my Galaxy S24 Ultra with many of the French colleagues in my volunteer group, and we all love it,” he added.

Samsung implemented optimised software and technology to support filming and transmitting this first-of-its-kind footage in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and other Olympic partners.

Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones were installed on the boats used in the sailing events. For kitesurfing and windsurfing, Galaxy smartphones were attached to each athlete’s shoulder and buoys in the water. With this new viewing experience, sailing fans never missed a beat.

This presented a whole new set of challenges and months of research, development and testing – in close collaboration with the OBS and other Olympic tech partners – to guarantee video quality and connectivity performance across various bodies of water and weather conditions, which can be really windy with huge waves or extremely hot and sunny. Samsung and its partners addressed these challenges by leveraging the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Optical image stabilisation (OIS) features, increasing transmission power, and installing relay towers on chase boat to ensure a seamless livestream experience for viewers.

LONDON, United Kingdom – August 1, 2024 – Samsung Electronics, a Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Smartphone Partner, hosted an event with the International Olympic Committee(IOC) on July 31 in Paris to launch and promote a new digital community for people including the Olympic and Paralympic Games fans called “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People”.

The event was held at SPOT24, a multi-use exhibition space in Paris dedicated to Paris 2024, and was attended by IOC President Thomas Bach, MD of the IOC’s Television & Marketing Services Anne-Sophie Voumard, Paralympic Committee(IPC) President Andrew Parsons, President and Head of Global Marketing Office at Samsung Electronics YH Lee, President of Samsung Electronics Europe Office Il-kyung Sung and Luc Abalo, a former gold-medal-winning French handball player and accomplished visual artist and participant in the Olympian Artists programme led by the Olympic Museum for Paris 2024.

A former Team Korea volleyball player, Yeon Koung Kim, Team GB Skateboarder Andy Macdonald, Australian Para-athlete Madison de Rozario, and UK contents creator and The Rapping Science Teacher, Matt Green are going to take part in this project as global ambassadors and to actively share content for Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People via social media.

The “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” project was developed by Samsung and the IOC to help Olympic and Paralympic fans around the world experience and engage with the Olympic Movement. The programme is especially focused on younger generations, with the new community designed around the goal of helping youth participants “solve, move and create in the spirit of the Olympic values.”

“Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” introduces three new community-oriented initiatives. Solve Challenge integrates sport and Olympism with Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow programme, a youth-focused social contribution program that empowers young people to design innovative solutions using sport and tech to address key social challenges aligned with the priorities of the IOC’s Olympism365. Move Challenge encourages fans of the Games around the globe to get up and walk more using Samsung’s smart mobile phone. Create Challenge lets participants get creative in an innovative digital artists’ community through Samsung’s smart device and S pen.

At the launch event, 10 teams that excelled in Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow programme were announced as “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” ambassadors. Throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, the ambassadors will showcase the solutions they’ve created to address social challenges and work to engage Olympic fans around the world. They will also collaborate with the IOC Young Leader — as well as diverse initiatives fostered by the IOC — to address solutions including the promotion of sustainable development.

During the “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” event, the ambassadors shared their Solve for Tomorrow projects designed to address real-world problems. A variety of innovative solutions were presented, ranging from help for people to overcome visual disabilities to new ways to promote worker safety.

“Samsung Solve for Tomorrow empowers high school students with the courage to change the world,” said Ngan Huu Kim Le, a member of the U.S. team that developed an insect-based environmental cleanup solution. “It’s an honour to take part and have a chance to present our solution to help build a brighter future for our planet here at Paris 2024 with prominent athletes from around the world.”

Not anymore. In the spirit of a ‘Games Wide Open’ at Paris 2024, Samsung is helping athletes create and share new, more personal memories of the celebration atop the podium with the Victory Selfie powered by Galaxy.

In an Olympic Games first, medalists at Paris 2024 have been documenting their ceremonies from their own perspective as they were handed the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition on the podium to take their Victory Selfie after receiving their Olympic medals. The selfies have been uploaded automatically and wirelessly to the Athlete365 portal so athletes can share their moments on a whole new level — perfectly aligning with Samsung’s belief that ‘Open always wins’ and that openness creates new perspectives and infinite possibilities.

“To be able to share the moment of achieving my dream of winning a medal with my fans, family and friends around the world — through my own perspective — was incredible,” said Team Samsung Galaxy member Rayssa Leal (Skateboarding, Brazil). “It not only amplified a moment I’ll never forget but also celebrated the camaraderie beyond the competition as my fellow medalists and I took the Victory Selfie together on the podium.”

Embark on a Visual Journey through Samsung’s Olympic Heritage

Opening Up the Olympic Spirit

Visitors can also join in the celebrated Olympic tradition of pin trading through Samsung’s exclusive Olympic Pin promotion. Visitors who take part in the Galaxy AI experience, or purchase any of Galaxy family products will receive a Samsung Paris 2024 Olympic Pin.

A bespoke foldable wall, created from 171 reused Galaxy Z Fold5 devices, will also display a series of breaking, skateboarding and surfing videos. Using kinetic production techniques, the screen will pulsate, creating a captivating and dynamic experience for everyone to enjoy.

The new Olympic Edition for Paris 2024 is the first-ever Olympic Edition to feature Galaxy AI. Designed to elevate the athletes’ Games-time experience from the moment they arrive in Paris, it is the first to come pre-loaded with a full suite of exclusive services and useful apps. Built-in Services and Apps Making the Olympic and Paralympic Experience Fun and Easy

To make it easier for athletes to use the phone while in Paris and beyond, each Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition will come with an eSIM of 100GB 5G data in partnership with Orange, and two years of Samsung’s global warranty. Standing atop the Olympic and Paralympic podium during the medal ceremony and realising a lifelong dream is one of the most emotional and memorable moments an athlete can experience. Traditionally photographed by accredited media only because athletes have been prohibited from bringing personal belongings — including their mobile phones — to the ceremony, the view has always been captured from a distance and not through an athlete’s own lens.

For the first time in Olympic and Paralympic Games history, Samsung will provide the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition for use on the podium at Paris 2024, so athletes can create their own memories and emotions via a new, victory selfie.
