London, UK – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is unveiling a new interactive display with upgraded features and a powerful software solution at Bett (British Educational Training and Technology) 2023, the world’s largest education technology exhibition, in London. The 30,000 educators in attendance can explore the future of education with the cutting-edge Samsung Interactive Display and Samsung Whiteboard App.

Technology is critically important in the classroom today, and the classroom of tomorrow requires a full suite of tools to help teachers and students deepen connections and increase collaboration in a familiar and convenient way. To meet the evolving needs of educators, classroom technology is becoming increasingly customisable, feature-rich, and interconnected across device ecosystems and operating systems (OS). Samsung is expanding its technology, services, and support for education to set teachers up for success.

“Our education technology is designed to equip educators with the tools they need to fully engage students and enrich any learning environment,” said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “At Bett, we are excited to showcase our interactive display solutions, demonstrating the level of advanced usability and interactivity required for the tech-enabled future of education.”

Introducing the New Interactive Display and Software Powering the Classroom of the Future

The new Samsung Interactive Display (Model name: WAC) is available for Bett attendees to experience in person. Expanding its offerings beyond the Flip and Flip Pro models operating on Tizen OS, the new WAC leverages Android OS to provide intuitive usability. The easy-to-use display helps teachers customise their home screen user interface (UI), activate multiple screen mode, share up to nine screens at once regardless of OS or device, and utilise intelligent education apps to enrich student learning. Users can also take advantage of the integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Available in 65-, 75-, and 86-inch models, WAC is built to integrate into any classroom setting. Its connectivity is enhanced with a 3-in-1 USC-C port, which enables hassle-free screen connection, touch control, and external device charging (max. 65W). In addition, the HDMI out function allows teachers to share content on a projector or bigger screen to ensure even students in the back of a large classroom are engaged.

Featuring a slim and user-friendly design, WAC takes into consideration the importance of both convenience and interactivity. With IR touch, users can enjoy a natural writing experience, 20 multi-touch drawing, and a dual pen to write with two different colours on each side – front and back – without changing the settings. The front stereo speaker, pen holder, and handle on the display boost convenience for a seamless education environment.

The Device Management Solution (DMS) for WAC series allows you to monitor and control the display in the classroom remotely at the same time. The DMS also provides an emergency alert function that sends warning messages to the screen collectively in case of an emergency.

Originally available on the Samsung Flip (Model name: WMB, WMA, WMR), the Samsung Whiteboard App will also be compatible with the WAC Interactive Display. The software solution helps educators connect to Windows OS devices, and even when connecting a PC to the display, seamless writing on top of the content from the PC can be experienced in real-time, creating a dynamic classroom experience. In addition, it is easy to store and share content and documents, as well as annotate on top of whatever is being displayed in real-time, even during a video conference.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is showcasing the future of digital signage at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2023 in Barcelona, with new technologies and eco-conscious efforts guided by the company’s new environmental goals.

“We are committed to minimising our environmental impact as part of our journey toward a more circular economy,” said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are excited to showcase our vision for smart signage while unlocking incredible new opportunities for businesses at ISE.”

Building Technologies that contribute to Eco-Conscious Digital Signage

At ISE this year, Samsung will highlight the company’s sustainability initiatives based on its new environmental targets announced in September 2022. Pre-registered visitors will be able to see Samsung’s environmental vision come to life, with the sustainability zone at the booth showcasing the eco-conscious practices applied to digital signage products. These practices are based on the five stages of the product lifecycle – sourcing, production, distribution, using, and recycling.

Samsung’s 2023 smart signage products (QHC, QMC, QBC) are approximately 40% slimmer than previous models at 28.5mm thickness. Through this, the number of shipping containers required for logistics after production can be reduced by more than 20%[1] compared to the previous model. In addition, smart signage products support automatic screen brightness adjustment by adopting an illuminance sensor which reacts to surrounding light conditions, helping users manage their power consumption automatically. Plus, the resin used for the rear covers contains 10% of Post-Consumer Materials (PCM).

Samsung’s cloud-based MagicINFO solution enhances Remote Management and helps to manage multiple signage displays and a variety of content efficiently. The Remote Management function will enable users to simply monitor the number of connected devices, their types and errors, and easily manage different devices, as well as remotely control settings such as screen brightness. Plus, this solution will offer other features including device health diagnostics, informing users of issues related to cable connection, device temperature and network disruption.

At ISE 2023, Samsung will also be running a separate solution seminar zone, introducing visitors to the company’s new and differentiated technologies. Its soon-to-be-announced cloud signage platform will offer a wide range of energy-saving solutions that empower users to manage and reduce their energy usage. New solutions include real-time power consumption monitoring, timed luminance scheduling, remote brightness adjustment and automatic device management. This comprehensive platform will integrate and connect LCD signage, LED signage, and B2B TVs to provide a seamless user experience.

Introducing New 2023 Outdoor Signage – Large LED Screens and Small-Sized Displays Unveiled

Samsung is announcing new signage products at ISE 2023. Firstly, the company will release its 2023 outdoor LED signage (Model Name: XHB series), built for the sports industry and spectacular landmark locations.

The XHB series is available in four models: P6 (6mm pixel pitch), P8, P10 and P16, all of which produce light at an astonishing peak brightness of 8,000 nits exceptionally clear and stunning picture quality – even when in direct sunlight. Furthermore, the standardised module design of the XHB guarantees flexible design and installation, including Concave (maximum of 2500R curvature), Convex, S shape, Fascia, and 90 °L type.

With a design twice as thin as the previous model, the XHB series can be installed in a seamless way, with the installation time also reduced by more than half for improved convenience. Furthermore, improved energy efficiency means the XHB reduces power consumption by over 15% compared to its predecessor and can reduce approximately 2,492 tons of CO2 emissions every year, which is equivalent to the amount of CO2 sequestered by about 290,000 30 year old pine trees in one year[2].

The XHB series will be available for ordering starting from ISE 2023, with some of the first models already being installed as electronic scoreboards at the home stadiums of globally recognised US Baseball teams, the New York Mets and The World Champion Houston Astros ahead of the 2023 season.

Finally, Samsung is introducing a small-sized, 24-inch outdoor signage display (Model Name: OH24B) to cater to the electric vehicle (EV) charger market. As demand for EVs continues to rise, it is important to provide solutions that enable a more connected, enjoyable charging experience, while providing upselling opportunities for businesses and retailers.

The outdoor signage excels in both durability and outdoor visibility across a wide range of diverse conditions. This high resilience and versatility are provided by peak brightness of 1,500 nits, and a slim, metal design, as well as water, dust and liquid resistance (IP66, Ingress Protection), and IK-10 Level glass protection. A high temperature, rigid liquid crystal panel is also applied to provide further durability even under strong sunlight. In addition, the display offers removable Wi-Fi/Bluetooth accessories which can optimise the receiving rate based on installation conditions. Finally, the small signage boasts unparalleled energy efficiency with the industry’s lowest power consumption[3] (a maximum of 90W) above 20-inches, perfect for an EV charging station which requires 24/7 operation and information delivery.

New Kiosk and Flip Pro’s Exclusive Solution Deliver Enhanced Device Compatibility

Samsung is also announcing the latest model, ‘Samsung Kiosk’ Windows version (Model Name: KMC-W). In addition to the existing model operating Tizen (OS), ‘Samsung Kiosk’ Windows version is compatible with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise OS to expand customer choices.

This new Kiosk adopts Intel’s 11th generation Intel Core Processor. It is equipped with 8GB DRAM and 256GB SSD, providing fast processing and ample storage space to meet the fast-evolving industry demands beyond healthcare, hospitality, and retail.

The company will introduce a new solution, exclusive for the ‘Samsung Flip,’ meeting the demand of both educators and businesses to be connected to various devices simultaneously. It enables users to bring the content or applications in their PC to the Flip by connecting a PC with the Flip. Especially, users can write over content brought from their PC on the screen of Flip and share in real-time. The new solution enhances usability for remote work and provides a seamless work environment by allowing users to optimise and utilise the screen to connect with other device screens.

Article by Dr. Larry Heck – SVP, Samsung Research America In a few years time, users may not have to figure out how to operate different devices

Article by Dr. Larry Heck – SVP, Samsung Research America

In a few years time, users may not have to figure out how to operate different devices individually or make a choice between services. Instead, the new world of connected devices and services based on artificial intelligence (AI) will be able to recommend and perform, on their own, integrated and seamless functions for users in and across environments from the home to office to car.

For example, in the home, when a user wakes up in the morning on a rainy day, the home lights will gradually brighten, while music fit for a rainy day is selected and played in the background. A cup of coffee will be prepared as soon as the user says “coffee” while stepping into the kitchen and the refrigerator will also recommend meal ideas for the day, asking the user whether he or she would like to buy ingredients online.

In the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry, Samsung Electronics is uniquely positioned to bring this world of connected AI services to life, based on the almost half a billion connected devices the company sells every year. In fact, given the typical lifecycle of a device, there are more than a billion Samsung devices actively used around the world at any given time.

Samsung’s device portfolio also is the industry’s broadest, and includes mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and wearable devices, office devices such as PCs, signages and Samsung Flip, devices for the home such as Samsung Smart TVs, Family Hub and FlexWash and FlexDry*, and much more.

At this year’s CES, Samsung highlighted its latest innovations in its vision to drive the Internet of Things (IoT) supported by AI. Samsung Smart TVs now integrated with Bixby, are able to play music and shows personalized for users, as well as show who is at the front door or what is inside the refrigerator. The Family Hub refrigerator, also integrated with AI, recognizes the voices of different family members and provides each of them with a personalized daily schedule.

Moving forward, Samsung will continue to remain focused on holistically integrating AI into a connected setting, such as the home or the office, in contrast to other players primarily pursuing implementation of AI on a few devices and services. In the following months, Samsung will integrate not only Samsung devices, but also IoT devices and sensors developed by external partners into the SmartThings eco-system, allowing a single SmartThings app to control everything. Furthermore, Samsung also plans to integrate AI into all its connected devices by 2020.

In the coming years, many IoT devices with AI support will generate a vast array of usage patterns and scenarios. How AI-enabled devices learn and analyze complex usage patterns and provide consumers with the most optimized options will be critical to the success of AI technology for the near future. In other words, the success of AI will boil down to how well the devices understand the users.

Therefore, Samsung’s perspective on AI is to build an eco-system that is user-centric rather than device-centric. To pursue that goal, we will start by building an AI platform under a common architecture that will not only scale quickly, but also provide the deepest understanding of usage context and behaviours, making AI more relevant and useful.

For the past decades, Samsung successfully introduced products and innovations by researching the lifestyle and behaviour of global consumers. Paying respect to our heritage of user-centric product development, Samsung will begin an exciting journey open to boundless possibilities in new user experiences by integrating AI into the open IoT ecosystem it is currently developing. This journey will certainly be fascinating for us here at Samsung, but even more so for consumers, as Samsung takes major steps forward to bring consumers’ hopes and expectations to life.
