London, UK – February 27th, 2020 – Today BT Sport and Samsung screened the UK’s first public live 8K sports broadcast, with a screening of the UEFA Europa League match between Arsenal and Olympiacos (round of 32).

BT Sport and Samsung collaborated to make history by delivering the broadcast live from the Emirates Stadium using a bespoke BT Sport 8K outside broadcast set up, delivered to Samsung QLED 8K TVs.

Samsung showcased the match on its flagship QLED 8K TV, offering a glimpse into the future of entertainment technology and providing an unprecedented viewing experience. With resolution that is four times that of 4K, with a total of 33 million pixels supported by HDR10+, the Samsung QLED 8K TV offers picture perfection that makes viewers feel as though they are really part of the action.

BT has a track record of industry-leading innovation in broadcast, with BT Sport operating from one of industry’s most sophisticated TV studios and delivering world-firsts in recent years around Virtual Reality, Dolby Atmos sound, 4K UHD picture quality and remote production. Last year it launched BT Sport Ultimate, the world’s first service to feature regular programming in High Dynamic Range (HDR), as well as 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos. Today’s broadcast over IP enhances the potential of BT Sport Ultimate, a service which provides viewers with the best viewing experience possible on the platforms and devices they use to watch on.

The showcase builds on BT and Samsung’s extensive relationship, with the companies combining expertise and technology to create entertainment experiences that are at the cutting edge of innovation.

Dan Hastings, Director of TV and AV at Samsung UK said: “For 50 years Samsung has pioneered the TV category; from the launch of the World’s first Digital Colour TV in 1998, the world’s thinnest TV in 2002, the first double-sided LCD screen in 2006 and then one of our biggest advancements to date; the first company to bring 8K TVs to the UK in 2018. We have shown that we never rest when it comes to pursuing meaningful innovations that could supercharge the way people consume content. It is great that we can add showing the first 8K broadcast to that list with BT Sport in 2020.”

Jamie Hindhaugh, chief operating officer, BT Sport, said: “BT Sport has a rich history of leading the industry with broadcast innovation to provide our customers the best viewing experience in the UK. Whether it’s last season’s launch of the world’s first regular high dynamic range service, BT Sport Ultimate, or, our world-leading remote production activity we’re constantly working to provide the best possible experience. Today’s broadcast in partnership with Samsung continues BT’s mission to take our viewers to the heart of sport and serve them the ultimate viewing experience.”

LONDON, UK – January 2, 2020 – Samsung Electronics announced today that it has partnered with the 8K Association (8KA) to establish a first-of-its-kind

LONDON, UK – January 2, 2020 – Samsung Electronics announced today that it has partnered with the 8K Association (8KA) to establish a first-of-its-kind certification program designed to distinguish 8K-enabled televisions and other devices. The partnership marks another milestone for Samsung’s QLED 8K as it will be among the first TVs to be certified by the 8KA this year, bearing the new certification logo.

“We are proud to be one of the founding members of the 8K Association and to have our new lineup of QLED 8K TVs certified by the program,” said Hyogun Lee, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Our goal is to provide consumers with the ability to easily identify premium 8K displays from other devices when making purchasing decisions. Home entertainment and TVs are important investments for many of our consumers, and we hope that the 8KA Certification Logo will help guide them.”

The 8KA Certification Program aims to distinguish televisions featuring four times as many pixels as the standard 4K televisions for clarity, contrast and colour and high dynamic range (HDR) performance. Among the features tested include display resolution reaching 7680 x 4320, peak brightness greater than 600 nits, image transmission of HDMI2.1 and high efficiency video codec (HVEC).

Member companies like Samsung Electronics will be able to promote 8K certified TVs after they are validated by the 8KA. The 8KA also plans to increase education programming efforts this year across many different industries in order to promote member participation, innovation and content development within the 8K ecosystem.

In addition to expansion across different industries, the 8KA plans to spread promotional activites for the 8K industry through demos, showcasing the advanced technological development of 8K-enabled products, production workflow, delivery options and display devices. The programs and initiatives will showcase how consumers can engage with 8K content, the ecosystem and its standards.

The 8KA anticipates further adoption of 8K content creation, distribution and home adoption, similar to the evolution of 4K standards adoption and consumer purchase cycle over the past several years. To-date, partner companies and organizations have all joined the 8K Association – further broadening the membership to more than 22 companies.

LONDON, UK – 5th September, 2019 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., today marked its imminent 50th anniversary at IFA 2019 and held a press conference laying out

LONDON, UK – 5th September, 2019 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., today marked its imminent 50th anniversary at IFA 2019 and held a press conference laying out the company’s vision focused on innovation, connectivity and the future.

The company declared to: democratise QLED 8K technology with the introduction of a full line up of QLED 8K TV; innovate in the home appliances market with its BESPOKE line-up of customisable refrigerators; and further expand Samsung’s 5G device footprint with the launch of the new Galaxy A90 5G and Galaxy Fold 5G. These new offerings, plus many others, illustrate Samsung’s continued ambition to enhance its portfolio with bold and disruptive products and services designed for tomorrow.

“Ever since Samsung’s original black and white TV launch nearly 50 years ago, we have been introducing cutting-edge technologies across our consumer electronics, home appliances and mobile businesses,” said Benjamin Braun, Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President, Samsung Europe. “Samsung will continue to build the legacy of the company and bring life-changing innovations to our customers.”

Full line up of Visual Display announced with new 55-inch QLED 8K TV

Since the launch of Samsung’s QLED 8K TV last year, total purchases of QLED TVs have increased 200 percent year-on-year. This fast adoption of QLED TVs has led to more than two million units sold across the world in the first half of this year, driving a proven consumer appetite for high-quality large screen TVs. To enhance the line-up even further, the 55-inch QLED 8K will sit alongside the Samsung QLED range of the current 65, 75, 82 and 98-inch versions.

The 55-inch QLED 8K TV will be available globally in September. With this new addition, Samsung is responding to consumers’ demands for greater choice by providing a range of size options to suit different homes. The new 55-inch variant will offer the continued premium benefits of the QLED 8K TV range, including unrivalled picture quality with depth and detail, 100 per cent colour volume and ground-breaking AI upscaling technology. Whether a consumer is watching content through a streaming service, set-top box through HDMI, USB, or even mobile mirroring, the Quantum Processor 8K recognises and upscales lower resolution content to crisp 8K quality.

BESPOKE home appliances for modern consumer lifestyles

As the line between furniture and home appliances continues to blur, Samsung is creating ever-more customisable home living solutions to suit a range of consumers’ needs.

To this end, Samsung’s ground-breaking new BESPOKE refrigerators are coming to Europe. Designed as modular units, these refrigerators can seamlessly blend into various spaces, with a wide-variety of sizing options available, ranging from single-door to four-door designs.

For those users who want even more from their kitchen, Samsung today launches its new multi-function Dual Cook Steam Oven. It boasts a modern design that provides outstanding flexibility with multi-cooking abilities. The oven is aligned vertically and incorporates textured surfaces with a new user interface that adds a new level of design intrigue. And with its Dual Cook Steam feature, it can simultaneously cook with convection in one compartment and with steam in the other.

Making an impact beyond our everyday lives, Samsung’s kitchen innovations have already helped to reduce the level of waste currently produced in the home. The company has taken this one step further at IFA 2019 by announcing an even deeper partnership with Whisk, a smart food platform developer. Through integration with Samsung’s appliances such as intelligent shopping lists on its Family Hub refrigerators, Samsung and Whisk are enabling a more enjoyable and environmentally-responsible cooking experience for the whole family.

As the average home becomes more compact and more people settle in urban areas, Samsung has focused on offering products that fit with consumers’ existing lifestyle. The AirDresser, which resembles a wardrobe or a vertical mirror, is an appliance for refreshing clothing. In addition, Samsung is launching the Air Purifier AX9500, the world’s first Wind-Free purification system. Its modular design ensures that it can fit into a variety of homes and with a three-layer filtration system, it reduces the presence of harmful gases, dust and allergens from the air in the living environment.

With the new POWERstick Jet cordless stick vacuum cleaner, consumers get to experience up to 200W of suction capability[1]. With its 5-layered HEPA Filtration System and hour-long battery life[2], it can capture 99.999 percent of dust particles and allergens, keeping them from escaping back into the air through the vacuum exhaust.

Introducing the new Galaxy A90 5G: Samsung expands its 5G-enabled Galaxy ecosystem

Since the launch of Galaxy S10 5G earlier this year, Samsung has been working with its global network of partners to provide access to 5G mobile connectivity for everyone[3].

Today, Samsung further strengthened its 5G smartphone line-up with the launch of the new Galaxy A90 5G, which will be available in the UK from 4th October. With the Galaxy A90 5G and 5G connectivity, users can quickly download high-quality content and share live video; immerse themselves in an expansive 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-U display; and benefit from a 4,500mAh battery[4] and 48MP main camera. The Galaxy A90 5G offers content-hungry consumers the optimum device for content creation and consumption.

Samsung also confirmed that the eagerly anticipated Galaxy Fold 5G will be available in Cosmos Black and Space Silver from 18th September, 2019, in the UK. This 5G-ready variant will provide consumers with the latest network connectivity to further enhance the new foldable experience.

Committed to providing consumers with an exceptional user experience without compromising on quality or size, this past summer has also seen Samsung introduce a slew of other new products.

The Galaxy Note10, Note10+ and Note10+ 5G provide impressive levels of power and performance that enable users to work the way they want and showcase their creative spirit, while on-the-go. The new Galaxy Tab S6 comes with the signature S Pen and is the world’s first tablet to feature a dual camera with Ultra Wide Lens and a 10.5-inch super AMOLED display. Designed for high-performing users who do not want to be weighed down by a laptop, the Galaxy Book S combines the mobility and connectivity of a smartphone and the powerful productivity of a PC. Finally, on 20th September, Samsung will launch the new Galaxy Watch Active2.

In the UK, we are also excited to announce the launch of the new AKG N700NCM2 wireless headphones which feature market-leading Active Noise Cancellation technology and an impressive 23 hour battery life[5]. These new headphones will be available to purchase from 11th September.

Since 2017, Samsung has exhibited its innovative technologies at Samsung Town, a custom-designed space that showcases its full range for visitors to experience the unique and convenient ways of connected living. This year, Samsung took a new approach by designing spaces for all types of consumers, from work-at-home freelancers to influencers, newlyweds and more.
