Do you find yourself feeling more tired once the clocks spring forward for British Summer Time? Well, you’re not alone. Although losing an hour the night of Daylight Saving Time (DST) may seem insignificant, a study of the sleep patterns of Samsung Health users[1] across the world including 40 European countries reveals disruptions to sleep patterns can be felt weeks later, hitting younger age groups the hardest.

Clock Changes Takes a Toll on Sleep, With Younger Generations Most Disrupted

When looking into how much of an impact the clock change has on people the morning after, one thing is clear: everyone’s sleep patterns are affected. In fact, people fall asleep on average 37 minutes later than the previous night, and wake up 34 minutes earlier. While losing sleep isn’t easy at any age, those in their twenties likely felt it the most, losing half-an-hour more than everyone else thanks to an extremely late bedtime and a seeming inability to sleep in.

Sleep patterns remained inconsistent in the days following the time change as people struggled to return to their regular bedtimes and wake times, and those in their twenties again seemed to be affected the most. Unable to get their sleep patterns under control, this cohort continued to fall sleep more than 20 minutes later than normal, yet woke up only 5 minutes later – missing critical rest. By the third week, sleep patterns for all age groups were still not back to normal, with bedtimes 3 minutes later and wake up times still 14 minutes earlier than average.

Sleep Score – calculated based on an evaluation of a user’s total sleep time, time awake, sleep cycle, plus physical and mental recovery – was at the worst level for weeks after – and again, people in their twenties appeared to be most affected. When looking at the seven-day Sleep Score average, the twenties age group demonstrated the slowest score recovery rate, while older age groups adapted much quicker.

Useful Tips to Help You Recover for a Good Night’s Sleep

The time transition clearly affects the sleep patterns of all age groups long after the clocks change, but for younger generations, prioritising sleep management during this time couldn’t be more important. Sleep is essential for rest and repair of our body, as well as good physical and mental health[2].

In recognition of the clock changes, Sleep scientist and Samsung Wellness Council member, Vanessa Hill, shares useful tips in collaboration with Samsung Health on how to harness technology to understand your sleep patterns and habits for a better night’s rest as the clocks change.

Creating an ideal sleep environment is critical to a good night’s sleep.

Later this month, a Samsung Health app update[3] will make this possible by receiving insights into the key factors that influence sleep quality, including temperature, humidity, air quality and light intensity via a Sleep environment report[4] – leveraging Samsung’s home-based technology and the power of its extensive device ecosystem. With a better understanding of how your environment affects sleep, you can easily optimise your room conditions for an improved night’s rest.

In addition to perfecting your sleep environment, understanding how activity levels can impact sleep quality is key.

Samsung Health updates also bring enhancements to Energy Score, which provides an indicator of how much energy users can expend throughout the day. In addition to sleep and heart rate, a new detailed factor about activity – Activity Balance – will help you understand overall conditions in greater detail by evaluating the consistency of activity levels based on recent data from the past 2 weeks.

It can be helpful to understand how you’re sleeping and then make necessary adjustments through sleep coaching.

Sleep Coaching[5] makes this simple by seamlessly tracking your sleep patterns over 7 days and assigning a sleep animal based on the results. With a personally tailored coaching program, develop healthy habits and routines that set you on a positive path to achieving your sleep goals.

LONDON, UK – Tuesday 10th October 2023 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd: The UK is a nation of ‘sleep divorcees’, with 8 in 10 couples having slept apart

LONDON, UK – Tuesday 10th October 2023 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd: The UK is a nation of ‘sleep divorcees’, with 8 in 10 couples having slept apart before, a fifth of the nation sleeping apart regularly, and a further 29% of couples doing so permanently, in the quest for a good night’s rest.

What’s causing couples to resort to this unexpected arrangement? Nearly a quarter of adults in a relationship say they’re not ‘sleep compatible’ with their other half, with 23% blaming their partner’s sleeping habits for getting fewer than 5 hours of sleep a night.

The research commissioned by Samsung (for the launch of the Galaxy Watch6) also revealed that snoring (71%), restless sleeping/fidgeting (35%), and one or both waking up several times during the night (30%), are the factors topping the list of things that keep couples sleeping apart.

Despite this, all is not lost. As over three-quarters (77%) believe going to sleep next to and waking next to their partner is important, and nearly half (45%) feel getting a better night’s sleep with their partner would positively improve their relationship.

And while sleep-related issues or disagreements amongst couples are leaving the nation feeling exhausted/tired (41%), stressed (30%), and unproductive (15%), nearly two-thirds (62%) feel it is important to find a solution, to avoid sleeping separately to their partner.

To help bring harmony back to the bedroom, Samsung has teamed up with Clinical Psychologist and Sleep Expert Dr. Julie Smith, to show how the Galaxy Watch6 ‘Sleep Coaching’ function can help couples understand their sleeping habits better and put a stop to sleep divorce for good.

Dr. Julie Smith, Clinical Psychologist, Author, and Content Creator, said, “It seems a shame to resort to sleep divorce to get a good night’s sleep when neither of you would otherwise choose to sleep apart. So, if one or both partners are disturbing the sleep of the other, it makes sense to work out which of your habits around sleep might be making that worse. You can start by using a device to log your sleep patterns for you, like the Samsung Galaxy Watch6. The good news is that many of these bad sleeping habits are fixable, without having to resort to sleeping apart.”

“As nearly half of the UK’s couples struggle with each other’s sleeping habits, the new sleep features on the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 can provide meaningful insights that can lead to positive changes. With an in-depth analysis of sleep duration, quality, and cycles, couples can use the data to better understand each other’s personal sleep patterns – meaning a better night’s sleep for all,” said Annika Bizon, Marketing and Omnichannel Director for Samsung UK.

To help couples improve their sleeping routines, Dr. Julie shares her top tips for avoiding sleep disruptions, including how to use the Galaxy Watch6 to reach sleep success:

Taking hold of your sleep routine isn’t just about what you do when it comes to winding down in the evening, it includes a combination of different things you do throughout the day. Getting to grips with all the variables that can impact sleep can be overwhelming. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch6 has a Sleep Coaching feature which includes a tailored programme of tips to help guide the process, along with handy features like Snore Detection to help users find out more about their snoring habits.

Get to know the problem in more detail by considering all the things that may contribute to sleep disturbance for you or your partner. It is quite possible that some small changes could make a positive difference to sleep for both of you so that you don’t need to sleep apart.

Breaking old habits and forming new ones can be difficult. So, this is something to work on together, offering support and holding each other accountable. Couples see better outcomes when they see themselves as a team working on a problem, rather than seeing the other person as the problem.

When it comes to comparing the regions across the UK, those living in Northern Ireland have proven to be the most likely to sleep separately from their partners, with 73% citing sleep disruption as the main reason.

The region’s most likely to have partners sleeping in separate rooms:

Northern Ireland (73%)

Yorkshire and the Humber (71%)

South West (68%)

North East (66%)

Wales (65%)

The new Samsung Galaxy Watch6 series provides powerful insights that can lead to positive changes around the clock, offering personalised and actionable tips, advice, and encouragement.

LONDON, UK – 10th August 2023 – Today Samsung Climate Solutions reveals the results of bespoke research[1] which finds that although almost two-thirds (64%) of workers in the UK with hybrid working patterns are planning to spend more time in the office in 2023 than in 2022, 66% would be deterred from heading to the office if the air conditioning wasn’t working or was of their opinion low quality.

Against a backdrop of increased levels of office occupancy from previous years, and temperatures remaining at record levels in the UK, the need for quality climate control within the working environment will be a key factor for attracting more of those who want to be back with their professional peers in the office.

Among those putting in more days in the office, the difference from 2022 is considerable with the average being 9.2 extra days per month in 2023. This is particularly important to 18 to 24-year-olds of which 81% of those surveyed said they were planning more face-to-face days with their co-workers, highlighting the increasing importance of in person work and collaboration.

Almost half (46%) of those surveyed planned to take advantage of office air conditioning if there is a repeat heatwave this summer. It is clear to see how many hybrid workers appreciate a cool working environment as 35% said they go in when the weather is hot to make use of the air conditioning.

Given this demand, the quality of office environments is more vital than ever. 24% of hybrid workers were not satisfied with their office air conditioning, and of those 40% reported that it is often not functioning properly. Interestingly, almost a third (31%) of hybrid workers who have experienced problems with air conditioning say the problem is cold draughts.

Steve Fleming, Head of Climate Solutions UK & Ireland, commented: “As the UK adapts to changing working patterns and changing weather patterns, the importance of advanced technology in cooling will only increase. Businesses looking to attract workers into the office on a regular basis will gain significantly from quality climate control technology in the months and years to come. Such technologies include Samsung’s WindFreeTM cooling, which disperses the cool air evenly through an office without the stereotypical cold draughts that people complain about. There is a huge opportunity here to cope with demand as people return to the office to make our working and social spaces as comfortable as possible.”

Furthermore, control systems will have a key role in office comfort. The research reveals that just under half (42%) of hybrid workers in the UK have had a dispute about the air conditioning. A third of respondents (34%) have argued with colleagues about what temperature the room should be set at and just under a quarter (24%) have complained about the temperature going up and down due to people constantly altering it.

Interestingly, the most common trigger for the dispute is individuals setting the thermostat to suit themselves (37%). Over half (55%) of hybrid workers say that their offices have a single control system to manage the temperature for the whole working space. Only a third (36%) have systems that allow them to control the temperature by office area and only a quarter of offices have a democratic approach to controlling the temperature in their workspace, allowing each employee to cast an equal vote. However, this progressive approach doesn’t apply everywhere. 15% of respondents stated that in their offices, the boss will be in charge of setting the temperature.

As the hybrid working landscape changes, workers are adjusting their lifestyles to best suit their work-life balance, especially as the UK climate changes too. This is changing our expectations of public spaces, from offices to gyms, as more than half (57%) of hybrid workers in the UK (rising to almost two thirds (62%) among women) would avoid a gym where the air conditioning wasn’t up to their standard. Almost a half (45%) say they’d avoid a restaurant or pub with a similar problem and almost a quarter (24%) would side-step a shop.

Building cloud management services, such as Samsung’s b.IoT interface which allows remote, zoned control for commercial buildings, will enable companies to manage office environments for the benefit of all employees. Technology is rapidly advancing to best suit the needs and demands of the changing climate and this data illustrates the importance of climate control for the modern hybrid worker.

LONDON, UK – Tuesday 7th March 2023 – Ahead of International Women’s Day (8th March), Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has revealed that while two thirds (67%) of 18-25-year-old women are considering a career in tech, an overwhelming amount (91%) say there are barriers to even considering a role in the industry. Whether it’s not understanding enough about the sector (44%), not having the right tech qualifications (30%), or fear of it being too challenging (23%), women are seeing non-tech routes such as careers in HR, marketing and finance as their way ‘in’ to working in the industry (38%).

The research polled over 2,000 18–25-year-old women in the UK to understand young women’s attitudes towards tech careers, revealing what factors influence career paths, and exploring the influence that role models have.

Ambitious Gen-Z let down by foundational support

There is a wave of ambitious young talent entering the world of work who are passionate about making social change that organisations must accommodate.

Young women are increasingly seeking a job that gives them purpose (46%), enables them to make a positive change in the world (41%), do rewarding work (41%), and that gives them the opportunity to make technology more inclusive to women (40%).

Findings revealed that the vast majority were in favour of a career in tech (67%), with respondents describing the sector as ‘exciting’ (52%), ‘innovative’ (55%) and ‘cool’ (41%), compared to just 5% who said it was ‘boring’. Gen-Z are also fascinated about the prospect of artificial intelligence and machine learning, with 36% finding advancements in tech in this area exciting and forward looking (36%).

However, progress to attract more women into the tech sector is being hampered by a lack of support at a young age. One third of women (34%) say they didn’t learn enough about tech at school, and 22% even reported that they were steered away from subjects relevant to the tech industry at school or college by their teachers.

“Technological innovation is front and centre and instead of being put off, or tuning out of the conversation, Gen-Z are actively engaged in these developments. With growing excitement, the next question is how can employers and educators break down the barriers to entry and facilitate action to close the gap between intention and action? We must be the ones to rally together, to enable the next generation to take practical steps to pursue meaningful careers,” says Annika Bizon, Marketing and Omnichannel Director at Samsung UK.

Role models for young women

Interestingly, when looking at who plays the biggest influence on young women’s lives, the research found that while family (57%) and friends (34%) play the largest role, they were also more likely to view social media influencers as role models (19%), rather than their teachers (18%). Culture was also found to be a source of inspiration for Gen-Z women, as Music (33%), TV and Film (29%) and Books (28%) were identified as somewhere they draw inspiration from.

For a third (33%) of respondents, having more women in the industry would make it a more attractive career choice. A similar number (28%) said that more role models overall would add to the appeal of tech.

“In 2017, a report revealed that 78% of UK students couldn’t name a famous woman working in technology. Today, this figure is worse, with 92% of 18–25-year-old women saying that they cannot name a famous woman in the industry versus 46% that can name a prominent man in tech,” said Tanya Weller, Marketing Director at Samsung UK and Ireland.

“There is clearly appetite from young women to pursue a career in tech, but we all need to step up to help these women realise their ambitions – it’s the combined effort of schools, universities, and workplaces to actively break down barriers, and support and inspire the next generation of talent into a thriving career in tech. We need robust role models that the young women of tomorrow can look up to as a source of inspiration, to stop and think ‘I can do that too’. Or perhaps even, ‘I can do better’” adds Weller.

Female representation in the tech industry

Representation in the industry matters when it comes to recognising leading women in the field.

Respondents of the study incorrectly thought This Morning TV presenter Alison Hammond was a woman in tech, with 12% incorrectly identifying her. This was followed by current First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon (9%), Charli Emma Aitchison – the singer songwriter more commonly known as Charlie XCX (8%), and British tennis player Emma Raducanu (6%) as prominent women in the tech sector. Just 14% correctly identified Ada Lovelace as a woman in tech. This is despite the fact Ada Lovelace is largely known as the first computer programmer and even has an awareness day dedicated to her, “Ada Lovelace Day” which is held every October.

“We all have a place in tech. Working in tech isn’t just about being able to code – it’s about so much more. Tech is home to diverse people with eclectic experiences in design, computer science, linguistics, humanities, history and much more. Paths are being formed, but what’s clear is that we need more visible female role models in the industry that inspire the next generation to take those life-defining first steps”, says Sharmadean Reid, Founder of The Stack World.

Research commissioned by Samsung Electronics UK and conducted via Mortar Research. Sample of 2,020 women aged 18-25, between 24th and 27th February 2023.

LONDON, UK – 13th December 2022 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd: With Christmas celebrations in full swing, ‘tis the season for filling our feeds with festive content. From family portraits by the tree to showing off your Christmas party outfits, there’s plenty of picture moments. Whilst festive feeds are high on the agenda for many, the social media other halves of the UK are feeling the strain.

A new survey from Samsung UK has revealed that the nation is spending an average of nine minutes per shot getting the perfect snap for their partner – the equivalent of 23 hours a year. What’s more, nearly half (48%) expect a rise in their camera duties during the Christmas period.

According to research, almost a quarter (22%) of Brits in relationships admit to feeling like a ‘social media widow’ – defined as the secret content creators hidden behind the lens, having lost the attention of their other half to the feed. However, this December we can expect the feeds to be flipped – a fifth (21%) of social media other halves determined that this is the year they will feature in their partner’s photos.

With the festivities fast approaching, Instagram-worthy picture expectations are high; One in ten Instagram other halves admit to reshooting their Christmas tree reveal because it didn’t look good enough, have snapped multiple boomerangs of the ‘cheers’ before taking a well-earned sip and admit to being chilled to the core in the snow to get the perfect winter portrait of their partner.

The survey also found that social media lovers love to stage scenes for the gram, with one in five (18%) having rearranged the dinner table multiple times to get the shot and 13% admitting to having put on a festive outfit especially, only to get back into pyjamas after the shot has been taken.

To help these social media other halves relinquish their photographer duties this Christmas, Samsung UK has partnered with reality TV stars (and couple) Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page, to show couples across the UK how to easily capture content hands-free. Thanks to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip4 FlexCam feature, both partners have the freedom to enjoy the festivities and perfectly snap every moment:

Capture festive selfies or hands-free videos at various angles by partially folding the Galaxy Z Flip4 to activate Flex Mode[1]

Take high-quality selfies right from the Cover Screen with the upgraded Quick Shot. Start high-quality video recording in Quick Shot mode and then seamlessly switch to Flex Mode to continue recording hands-free without stopping the video – ideal for making sure you never miss a shot.

Tasha Ghouri, Love Island star and model, said: “I love taking festive snaps at Christmas, it’s literally the perfect time of year for the cute content as everything looks so pretty. This year, I’ll be giving Andrew a break from his content capture duties as we can both get in the shot with the Galaxy Z Flip4’s hands-free mode… probably the best present he could ask for!”

Social media other halves admit to having found themselves in some unusual situations:

Having to lay down on the floor outside to get the best angle possible (8%)

Risking their lives for a picture perfect shot by standing in front of a tourist attraction in the middle of oncoming traffic (8%)

Getting weird looks from strangers when they are taking a photo in public (29%)

When asked what’s stopping their shots from getting the ‘gram-worthy’ stamp of approval, never catching their good angle (30%), bad lighting (30%), poor camera quality (22%) and people in the background (21%) are the most common complaints, with a quarter (26%) wishing there was an easier way to take the perfect festive snap.

Although the dedication isn’t just for the Christmas period. One in four (22%) say they spend more time taking pictures of their partner on holiday than having pictures taken together and a quarter (26%) have to put the feed first on date night, refraining from eating/drinking until their partner has finished getting pics of the table spread.

[1] Flex Mode supported at angles 75 and 115°

LONDON, UK – November 22, 2022 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today released research that shows just how far the modern entrepreneur has evolved from

LONDON, UK – November 22, 2022 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today released research that shows just how far the modern entrepreneur has evolved from traditional stereotypes. Full time business owners in the UK revealed that nearly half (47%) have no fixed work hours at all, preferring a fluid workday set up. One-third (31%) of business owners also said they commit to less than 7 hours as a typical core working day, preferring to work when optimal to their businesses.

While an early start is popular, with an average clocking on time of 8.21am, burning the midnight oil is now less popular, with an average ‘clocking off time’ of 3.06pm, showing the rewards of efficient working practices. One in five of those polled (20%) said they only work when they want to, while just 14% stick to a traditional 9-5.

Work is headspace not a physical space

More than ever, work is about focus not location, with the average business owner not having set foot in an office for 148 days, and one in five never having done so at all. Instead, almost two-fifths (37%) of entrepreneurs have taken a working holiday without telling clients, with the practise far more common amongst those aged 25-34 (48%) compared to just 20% of those over 55. That confidence seems linked to technology, with more than half (51%) upgrading their work phone so they can operate anywhere, on their own terms. There is, however, a continuing sense of dedication, with 43% of small business owners taking less holiday time, preferring to continue to work from wherever they are.

Mental and emotional wellbeing are major considerations, and there is growing sentiment that work should not be all encompassing even among business owners; 71% said they put their family life ahead of their business, with 27% saying the same for friends. In a sign of how much the conversation has shifted, half (49%) said they prioritise their emotional health ahead of their business.

Modern entrepreneurs aren’t just trying to improve their own work/life balance though, they’re encouraging their staff to do the same. Half (49%) let their employees change their working hours to fit in with their lives, a third (35%) are happy to let their staff choose their working hours so long as they get the job done, and remarkably, almost a quarter (23%) will let staff come in late if they’ve been out the night before. That duty of care is being taken seriously, with 36% allowing their employees to take “mental health days” if needed.

Dynamic technology for changing times

The owners detailed the biggest changes to their working lives over the last 5 years as:

Flexible hours (36%).

Fewer or no face-to-face meeting (18%).

Wearing casual clothes (10%).

Working from anywhere (9%).

Making the most of time spent working

The days of being deskbound are almost over, with 97% of respondents performing non-work activities during the traditional “working day.” Self-care is clearly a priority, with three-quarters (74%) taking time out to exercise and, almost half (47%) to develop a new skill, such as learning a language. In a further uplevelling of work/life balance, respondents spend an average of 1 hour and 12 minutes on household chores, and 39% spend up to 2 hours playing with their children. More unusual work-time activities include learning to knit, bathing a pet iguana, attending a football match and 46% admit to getting their hair done during their office hours. Apparently far more normal is the habit of napping, with one in five (22%) taking daily siestas to help them perform better.

Commenting on the research, Joe Walsh, Director of B2B at Samsung UK said: “UK business owners are the backbone of our economy, and their dedication and commitment inspires me every day. This research reveals, that they are also leading the charge on transforming our preconceived ideas of how we should work. For modern entrepreneurs, work is wherever they find the right headspace. It’s all about finding new ways of working that bring more individual satisfaction and reward.”

“Multi-tasking, multi-screens, multi-priorities; all are now commonplace, with a refreshed focus quality over quantity. As many of the respondents expressed, if their business can be run effectively from a beach in Greece or after picking up their kids from school, why shouldn’t it be? Technology is at the heart of this change, with the right tools empowering them to juggle what they need to do and what they want to do, without missing a beat, and driving growth.”

London, UK – October 12, 2022 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. held its annual Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) today in San Francisco, bringing together developers, creators and designers to explore seamless, connected experiences powered by Samsung.

During the event, Samsung shared more about its commitment to creating simplified, game-changing customer experiences, including the company’s updated vision for SmartThings as it evolves from a connectivity platform to an enabler of smarter lifestyles. From deeper integration with Bixby to seamless connectivity with Matter-compatible devices, SmartThings is creating a richer, more open world that empowers all users to streamline their connections and their daily lives.

“At Samsung, we continuously innovate our devices, platforms and services to be simpler and more convenient. I am proud to share the next generation of our work, like SmartThings, to further our collaboration with partners and developers,” said Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics. “As technologies become more complex, we will always search for ways to make life easier, more connected, and more flexible, so our consumers can focus on what matters most.”

Connecting Platforms and Devices with Calm Technology

Samsung’s vision of seamless connectivity is inspired by the philosophy of Calm Technology – where devices instantly work together, so consumers can save time on setup and get right into the experience. To realise this vision, Samsung reimagined SmartThings and its connected services and partnerships, including Samsung’s Hub Everywhere, extending its capabilities to the entire smart home with audio and visual data as well as SmartThings Energy, SmartThings Pet and SmartThings Cooking. Samsung also partnered with Philips Hue to integrate Philips Hue Sync right into Galaxy devices so smart home lighting can match with music.

The seamless experience will extend beyond Samsung’s ecosystem through SmartThings’ integration with Matter and Samsung’s membership in the Home Connectivity Alliance. Google and Samsung have worked together to enable users to find and link their devices across platforms by building multi-admin feature on Matter devices. The collaboration will bring more devices and users into the connected home in the future.

Bixby has been integrated more deeply with SmartThings, a tool for developers to build more intelligent voice user interface experiences. As Samsung’s representative voice assistant platform, Bixby has evolved to become the on-device AI solution able to control individual Galaxy devices, as well as the cross-device experience throughout the Samsung ecosystem. With the new Bixby Home Studio, developers can now build differentiated, customised experiences for the SmartThings platform.

As the smart home is becoming more advanced, Samsung is introducing a new security paradigm, enabling Samsung devices to protect each other. Samsung Knox Matrix[1] is a private blockchain based platform that turns eligible Samsung devices into a shield to protect users’ entire device ecosystem – from Galaxy devices to TVs and home appliances. Plus, users can customise personal privacy settings with the new Security and privacy dashboard, which scans for vulnerabilities, recommends security updates, and gives users data management options to keep privacy and security top of mind.

Personalised Services for Better Experiences

In the past year, Samsung TV Plus — Samsung’s free, ad-supported streaming TV and video (FAST) platform available on Samsung Smart TVs[2] and mobile devices— reached 100% growth in viewership[3], and projects three billion hours streamed by the end of the year. To build on this momentum, Samsung TV Plus has expanded its offering by adding partnerships with Lionsgate and Vice Media, providing 8K video on demand. Samsung TV Plus has also gone through a redesign, to reflect its extraordinary variety of content with more than 1,600 channels across 24 countries. Samsung TV Plus is the premium choice for a seamless ad experience, where stream stitching makes ad playback simpler than ever.

After 10 years of service, Samsung’s Tizen operating system (OS) continues to offer best-in-class user experiences. The Samsung Gaming Hub brings better, faster and more convenient access to gaming on Samsung Smart TVs, provided by industry-leading partners, such as Xbox, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Utomik and Amazon Luna. Samsung Gaming Hub bridges expertise in hardware and software to integrate features like AI Upscaling and multitask functions to make gaming on Samsung Smart TVs an immersive, optimized experience.

Tizen OS is also expanding to offer NFTs support with partners like Art Token, laCollection and Nifty Gateway. For B2B customers and developers, Samsung is providing B2B APIs specific to industries and use cases like Syncplay, which allows content to be synchronized and played in multiple signages. Tizen is also introducing SALT, a new content conversion solution to display the highest-quality HDR10+ content on supported TVs.

Your Galaxy, Your Way with One UI 5

By introducing the new One UI 5, Samsung has empowered users to easily customise their device’s look and feel, while enhancing productivity and providing amazing experiences across devices and platforms. One UI 5 brings more personalised experiences with custom-built Modes and Routines, and a Dynamic Lock screen that displays multiple visuals on your phone, your Galaxy Watch and other One UI 5 devices. With the new Bixby Text Call feature, Bixby Voice will answer calls on your behalf and share typed messages with the caller, speaking aloud as if you had answered. One UI 5 also introduces new daily health solutions to help track health and wellness in one place. This includes the Samsung Privileged Health SDK, which enables developers to build apps that leverage the BioActive Sensor on the Galaxy Watch[4].

Future-Forward Investment and Research

Samsung Research is looking beyond today’s horizon to innovate for a better tomorrow, full of relentless innovation and open collaboration. Samsung Research is making its robot arm manipulation code available on GitHub, enabling academics, researchers and developers to examine new ideas in robotic manipulation.

The team at Samsung Research was also inspired by the new wellness features Samsung has introduced, particularly on the Galaxy Watch5. To find new use-cases leveraging these features, Samsung Research is working with universities and healthcare institutions that will explore areas like heart health, stress, blood pressure, lung health and neuroscience. As a result, Samsung is offering a full stack SDK – the Samsung Health Stack – which will jumpstart research into important health fields and spark new development.

Samsung invites developers, creators, partners and more to join in on its commitment to open collaboration and seamless experiences. For more information about the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) 2022, please visit [developer.samsung.com].

Samsung Electronics unveiled a series of new tools ahead of the Samsung Developer Conference 2022 (SDC2022) that will aid developers and communities in shaping

Samsung Electronics unveiled a series of new tools ahead of the Samsung Developer Conference 2022 (SDC2022) that will aid developers and communities in shaping health, wellness and safety habits for consumers everywhere. These tools include the Samsung Privileged Health SDK program for select partners, the Fall Detection API to support user safety, Samsung’s new end-to-end research solution for educational, clinical and healthcare programmers, as well as ongoing opportunities for partners with Health Connect.

“Samsung’s health foundation is rooted in our advanced hardware and sensor technology and is bolstered by our open ecosystem and collaborative approach,” said TaeJong Jay Yang, Executive Vice President and the Head of Health R&D Team at Mobile eXperience Business, Samsung Electronics. “That is why I am excited to announce expanded developer tools, APIs and partner offerings that allow third-party experts, research centres and universities to advance wearable tracking and insight capabilities for a wider health, wellness and safety.”

Samsung Privileged Health SDK: Advancing Preventative Safety in Driving

Samsung is collaborating with select industry leaders to develop personalised health services. With safety as one of Samsung’s focus areas, these collaborations will deliver all-new preventative tools to make roads safer by identifying early signs of driver fatigue and stress.

Samsung’s work with Tobii, a global leader in eye-tracking and attention computing that develops software to monitor drowsiness, is one example. If users choose to, Samsung’s Privileged Health SDK enables Tobii to sense real-time heart rate captured by Galaxy Watch sensors and process them to determine the user’s level of drowsiness. Also, Harman, a leader in connected car technology, audio innovations, and IoT solutions, has recently introduced Ready Care, a complete automotive in-cabin sensing and tailored solution for driver safety and comfort. In addition to distraction, fatigue and vital sign sensing, users can allow Ready Care to measure cognitive load and stress level and can provide suggestions for alternative routes to lower a driver’s stress.

Health Services: New Fall Detection API for Enhanced Safety Capabilities

Health Services provides APIs that allow developers and third parties to harness the powerful sensors and algorithms on the Galaxy Watch for more accurate and advanced health offerings. Samsung is introducing a new API to the ecosystem that offers adjustable sensitivity for Fall Detection, strengthening preventative safety and setting the stage for even more potential offerings.

Developers can now create services using Galaxy Watch’s Fall Detection algorithms that sense a user’s stumble or fall by combining different sensors including an accelerometer and gyroscope. This API enables development of apps for users who may encounter unexpected accidents. Furthermore, Galaxy users are even able to adjust sensitivity levels – whether standing still, moving, or exercising – via the Galaxy Wearable app. Like sleep tracking that senses restless movements or falls from bed to paint a more complete picture of a user’s sleep, this API opens all new opportunities for developers and users alike.

End-to-End Research Solution: Accelerating Medical Service and Research

Samsung is also introducing an open-source project that provides end-to-end solutions combining SDK, backend system and portal for a variety of health applications. This all-in-one healthcare toolset empowers research and clinical experiences — starting at the developer level — by delivering advanced insights through Galaxy Watches and wearables to support medical research at institutions, hospitals, wellness centres and beyond.

Researchers can use this open source project to build modules that enable participants to join a study in a frictionless and informed way, streamlining the onboarding process. Flexible survey templates are also in place to satisfy the ever-changing needs of organizations. From there, relevant data and insights are gathered more easily from wearable devices, while participants are guided with actionable insights throughout the process. Encrypted participant data is then transmitted to the backend system where health and medical communities monitor and analyse the collected insights to inform patient treatment plans, upcoming research and much more. More details of the new project will be announced at SDC22 keynote by Sebastian Seung, President and the Head of Samsung Research.

Health Connect: Greater Insights and Data Control

Health Connect, announced in collaboration with Google during the spring of 2022, offers developers a single set of APIs enabling the seamless creation of new fitness and health experiences. Currently available in beta, Health Connect offers users centralised privacy controls that make it easy to give permission to the health and fitness apps they want to share their on-device data with. Now, Samsung Health and Fitbit, along with leading health and fitness apps including Leap Fitness, MyFitnessPal and Withings have adopted Health Connect to enable a more impactful and holistic wellness experience. And with a user’s permission, app developers can leverage certain data shared through Health Connect for use in their own applications in order to provide users with a more complete picture of their health.

Samsung is committed to giving its community – including users, third parties, developers and beyond – enhanced tools and resources to build and benefit from more connected and diverse health services. As part of Samsung’s overarching wellness initiatives, the company will continue to deliver an expansive ecosystem – which the Samsung community will hear more about during the SDC22 – that empowers users with more insights and information on health and wellbeing.
