London’s skyline transformed over three nights with a stunning public light show, powered by lasers, that underscores Samsung’s innovative low-light camera function

London – 16th March, 2018 – Last night Samsung Electronics pushed the boundaries of traditional marketing engagement by creating a moment that London couldn’t miss. A spectacular public light show, powered by lasers – titled “The Night Reimagined” – was projected from Potters Fields Park onto the city’s iconic Leadenhall Building (also known as the ‘Cheese Grater’), and will continue for the next two nights. Created to mark the launch of the new Galaxy S9 and S9+ – unveiled at MWC on 25th February 2018 with an advanced, redesigned camera – the amazing visual spectacle featured state-of-the-art reflectors and newly developed dynamic soft laser lighting. This landmark event for Londoners fuses art, design and technology to demonstrate Samsung’s commitment to meaningful innovation that defies barriers.

“The Night Reimagined” installation – created by Samsung and produced by AMV BBDO – gives everyone the opportunity to take stunning night-time pictures, which the one-of-a-kind low-light capacity of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ has been developed to capture. This remarkable structure on the London skyline has been created using 16 state-of-the-art laser lights built in Germany and the UK, and its ten-metre diagonal array will change trajectory to twist in the sky – altering its multi-coloured perspective for viewers capturing the event with their phones.

John Nguyen/PA Wire

The spectacle embraces the spirit of Samsung’s brand manifesto, “Do What You Can’t”- a call to defy barriers and do what can’t be done in the every day. This is embodied by the innovative features of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ including low light aperture, super slow-mo and personalised emojis – expanding how consumers capture moments and express themselves creatively.

“We wanted to give the people of London a moment not to be missed,” said Sam Grant, CMO, Samsung Electronics UK. “The Night Reimagined” installation was conceived as an amazing and almost impossible visual spectacle that represents just how Samsung is pushing the boundaries of what is possible. The beauty of the show demonstrates how the capabilities of the Galaxy S9 camera ensures people can capture epic pictures, particularly in the dark.”

This project is the first collaboration in a new creative partnership between AMV BBDO and Samsung UK. “The Night Reimagined” is the first in several creative projects planned across a range of Samsung products and services. Justin Pahl, Managing Director of AMV BBDO said, “We are thrilled to be working with Samsung, one of the world’s truly great brands, to help them build a deeper connection with the people of the UK. This is a fantastic opportunity to create great work for a brilliant organisation across a variety of channels, and we are incredibly excited about their creative ambition and potential.”

New research of 2,000 adults, commissioned by Samsung to celebrate the launch of its Galaxy S9, has shown that more than half of Brits believe it’s

New research of 2,000 adults, commissioned by Samsung to celebrate the launch of its Galaxy S9, has shown that more than half of Brits believe it’s important to capture the perfect photograph, and the majority would like to improve the low-light performance of their phone’s camera. Currently, more than two in five spend time editing images taken in low lighting, and more than six in 10 admit they delete images straight away because it’s too dark.

The new Galaxy S9 and S9+, on general sale from 16 March, has an advanced, reimagined camera to ensure users don’t miss a moment – enabling them to capture their epic every day.

Additionally, adults admitted almost 40% of their snaps will be un-usable as a result of low lighting, blurring or because the subject was too far away.

It’s no secret that good lighting is the answer to any great photo but often, photos are taken in less-than-ideal lighting conditions. Most smartphone cameras have a fixed aperture that can’t adjust to low or bright lighting environments, resulting in grainy or washed out pictures. Similar to the way the iris of a human eye expands and contracts, Samsung’s Dual Aperture[1] (F1.5/ F2.4) automatically lets in more light when it’s dark and less light when it’s too bright, taking photos that are crisp and clear.

A Samsung spokesperson said: “We have reimagined the camera on the Galaxy S9/+ to enable our fans to capture the epic every day. The incredible dual aperture lens transforms low light photography, allowing users to get the perfect shot first time, so that they can live in the moment.”

There is a cost to pursuing the perfect shot, as 43% of respondents felt they missed out on the ‘true’ experience by spending too much time taking pictures.

As well as an enhanced low-light camera, the S9 benefits from:

Super Slow-mo: Make every day moments epic with dynamic, slow-motion video that captures 960 frames per second. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ also offers automatic Motion Detection, an intelligent feature that detects movement in the frame and automatically begins to record – all users have to do is set up the shot.

AR Emoji: Samsung lets users create an emoji that looks, sounds and acts like them. AR Emoji uses a data-based machine learning algorithm, which analyses a 2D image of the user and maps out more than 100 facial features to create a 3D model that reflects and imitates expressions, like winks and nods, for true personalisation.

Bixby: Samsung’s intelligence platform, integrated into the camera, uses augmented reality and deep learning technologies to provide helpful information about a user’s surroundings.

[1] The Dual Aperture supports F1.5 mode and F2.4 mode. Dual Aperture is installed on the rear camera (Galaxy S9) and rear wide-camera (Galaxy S9+)

London, UK – 6th March 2018 – Samsung Electronics today announced a partnership between its digital wallet Samsung Pay and Contis, a leading provider of end-to-end banking, payments and processing solutions in the UK and Europe.

Contis is the first payments provider to integrate Samsung Pay’s market-leading functionality across a Credit Union proposition delivering the service to over 150 Credit Unions across the UK and providing members with the ability to leverage technology to manage their finances more effectively at a time of increasing budgetary pressure.

Samsung Pay will also be integrated into Contis’ Canvas proposition, a white label solution that provides companies with a powerful, configurable end-to-end platform that is supported by licences enabling deployment throughout Europe. Samsung Pay and Canvas together are creating a one-stop solution for business banking by giving companies the power to enhance their business through award-winning functionality supported by a world-leading brand.

Since launching last year, Samsung has focused on building the functionalities of the service to provide the best possible user experience. Key capabilities include:

Simplicity: With Samsung Pay every transaction is easy and convenient.* Samsung Pay uses Near Field Communication (NFC) making the user experience seamless. Users can launch Samsung Pay with a simple swipe from the bottom edge of their screen to bring up the last used credit or debit card, use their iris, pin or fingerprint to prove their identity, and tap their device on a payment terminal to make a payment. Samsung Pay allows customers to use contactless payment for transactions over £30 (subject to merchant policies).

Security: Samsung is committed to ensuring its customers have complete piece of mind when it comes to mobile payments. Each transaction is authenticated by fingerprint, pin number or iris scan, and uses an encrypted digital token to replace sensitive card information which helps prevent fraud. Additionally, Samsung’s industry-leading Knox security platform is built into the hardware and software of your device, which ensures mobile information and data is secure.

Access (Almost Anywhere): Samsung Pay is accepted almost anywhere you can use your contactless credit or debit card in the UK.

Kyle Brown Head of Technology, Services and Launch Management at Samsung Electronics commented: “We are delighted to be partnering with Contis as part of our dedication to developing an open ecosystem of devices that enhance our customers’ experience. The partnership not only provides us with the ability to deliver our leading solutions to a new user base, but also represents an important milestone as we continue to diversify our service offering into financial services.

“In Contis, we have a found a partner that shares our thirst for innovation and we look forward to working with them closely to deliver this exciting project.”

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. pushes the boundaries of traditional advertising campaigns and marketing engagements with a spectacular showcase at the iconic Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The new Galaxy S9 and S9+—unveiled at Samsung Unpacked in Barcelona on February 25, 2018 with advanced, redesigned camera—will be featured in a display of LED lights and multi-sensory experiences to capture the attention of consumers worldwide and demonstrate its commitment to meaningful innovation that defies barriers. Samsung Electronics is the first technology brand that will be represented on Burj Khalifa’s LED Façade.

The Burj Khalifa, a global icon, garners attention as a popular gathering place and for its amazing LED display, which has been the centre of attraction of the ‘Light Up 2018’ spectacle. Samsung will project its Galaxy S9 and S9+ campaign, The Camera. Reimagined on the iconic landmark five times from March 2-3. The company will also host an on-the-ground consumer event with Product Experience Zones that allow consumers to explore new advanced visual and audio capabilities of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ first-hand. At activation stands, consumers can create their own personalized AR Emoji, test out the low-light functionality of the Galaxy’s reimagined camera in a mirrored room and capture the celebration with Super Slow-mo video capabilities at Samsung’s confetti booth.

The campaign embraces the spirit of Samsung’s brand manifesto, “Do What You Can’t” (DWYC)—a call to defy barriers and do what can’t be done – and introduces consumers to the Galaxy S9 and S9+ through immersive experiences, media, TV commercials and digital content. Samsung is creating products, services and experiences that are made for the way consumers express themselves and discover hidden moments.

“Staying true to our heritage of relentless innovation, this campaign is another example of how Samsung is continuously pushing the boundaries of what’s possible – just like we do with our products and services,” said YH Lee, Global Chief Marketing Officer of Samsung Electronics. “Through the spectacular Burj Khalifa ‘Light Up’ show, multi-sensory engagement experiences, and the new Galaxy S9 and S9+, we are tapping in to the way consumers communicate, engage and experience the world today.”

In addition to the takeover in Dubai, Samsung will launch OOH activations at landmarks and high-traffic areas in major global markets, where consumers can experience the Galaxy S9 and S9+, including the advanced camera features that can catch a fleeting moment, high-quality audio and intelligent connectivity that allows users to seamlessly manage all facets of their social lifestyle.
