LONDON, UK – SEPTEMBER 26, 2024 – Today, Samsung Electronics UK announced innovations that provide users with smarter and more efficient ways to control their energy. The company unveiled new technology and partnerships to optimise energy usage throughout the home.

Ahead of Winter, Samsung UK revealed a host of advancements powered by SmartThings Energy: eco-tech provider Hive’s thermostats will be integrated into SmartThings from the middle of October, so customers will benefit from an extension of the British Gas PeakSave program, and Tesla technology will also be compatible with the SmartThings App.

Increased SmartThings Connectivity with Hive Integration

To further simplify how users manage their energy usage at home, SmartThings Energy is integrating Hive’s thermostats, so that households can control their home’s temperature directly through the SmartThings app.

The integration of Hive thermostats allows consumers to check their home’s current temperature and set new temperature targets as well as setting at home temperatures when customers are on the move. Installing a Hive Thermostat can save customers up to £172 per year on their heating bill^[1]

Maximising Energy Savings through Leading Partnerships

In partnership with British Gas, Samsung UK is also helping households better manage their energy use and make savings when it comes to their energy bills. The expansion of the collaboration between Samsung and British Gas allows SmartThings Energy users to automate appliances, and other connected products, as part of British Gas PeakSave.

The PeakSave program rewards customers for reducing their electricity usage during peak hours, to times when there is more renewable energy readily available. SmartThings Energy users can automate appliances’ operating modes during these times, allowing them to easily take advantage of periods when electricity is half-price due to there being lots of renewable energy available, and rewards users for shifting their electricity to when there is less demand. So far, British Gas has paid over £13 million to 650,000 customers taking part in the scheme.

Boosted Home Energy Experience with Tesla Energy API for UK users

Energy-saving starts within the home, but it doesn’t need to stop there. Earlier this year at CES Samsung announced its collaboration with Tesla for SmartThings Energy and now UK users can benefit from this increased connectivity, allowing users to easily access information relating to users’ energy production, storage and usage via SmartThings Energy.

Made possible through Tesla’s open APIs, the expansion of SmartThings Energy allows users to connect with their Tesla Powerwall, and Solar Inverter for a more streamlined smart home experience.

In addition to making it easier to manage energy consumption, this integration allows for better preparations for power disruptions and outages. SmartThings syncs up with the Tesla app’s Powerwall ‘Storm Watch’ function – meaning in the case of extreme weather events users can be alerted through SmartThings on their connected Samsung TV’s and mobile.

These new partnerships and innovations are part of Samsung’s drive to enhance the multi-device experience of SmartThings users.

The Frame’s popular Samsung Art Store layout will be reorganised early this year to provide a more dynamic home page that allows users to preview artworks of any size at a glance, mimicking the browsing experience of visiting real-life art galleries and museums. All of Samsung’s new 2023 TV line-up are connected by the Samsung SmartThings app.

A premium and connected screen experience would only be complete with ultra-immersive audio. Samsung TVs are integrated with Dolby Atmos^[3]and Samsung Object Tracking Sound (OTS)^[4], allowing movies, sport or gaming sounds to pan to speakers to allow superior atmospheric surround sound. Samsung’s Smart range supports Q-Symphony when paired with a Q-Series or S-Series Samsung Soundbar, allowing powerful audio from both TV and Soundbar speakers to enhance the viewing experience for something truly cinematic. Joining this impressive display portfolio are monitors for avid gamers. Samsung announced its new offerings for Odyssey, ViewFinity and Smart Monitor at CES 2023. Delivering unmatched image quality and a range of innovative features for people looking to work, play and live through their monitor display, Samsung Summit will display premium gaming monitors such as the 43” Odyssey Neo G7, Odyssey Ark 55” and Samsung’s latest gaming TV, the OLED 77”. Connected, customisable and smarter digital appliances

Services like SmartThings Energy are setting new standards for product efficiency; Samsung’s newest home appliances helps users reduce energy usage, saving money. SmartThings Energy automatically detects the amount of energy that connected Samsung devices consume, while activating AI Energy Mode, which once users opt in, ensures that their Samsung devices automatically run at optimal energy levels, so they don’t use more than they need to. It can reduce power consumption on compatible appliances by up to 15% for refrigerators^[6] and up to 70% for washing machines.^[7] In addition to that, Samsung’s Less Microfiber Cycle is a wash cycle that significantly reduces micro plastic release by up to 54%.^[8] These latest advancements make it easier for consumers to reduce their impact on the environment.

Combining energy saving potential with powerful AI, seamless connectivity, and customised but premium designs, Samsung’s expanded Bespoke line-up will lead the way for consumers to enjoy more personalised and environmentally conscious lifestyles. Samsung’s 2023 Series 7 Bespoke AI Oven range offers consumers the chance to view their food cooking via a built in webcam that can be viewed on the SmartThings app, making it a fun and easy way to check on your meal. And when it comes to keeping the home clean, Samsung’s Bespoke Jet makes vacuuming a breeze with powerful performance from start to finish. A Smarter Home, With Minimal Effort

Samsung’s SmartThings Station is easy to set up. When a user powers the device on for the first time, pop-up messages will appear on a user’s Samsung Galaxy smartphone to help guide users through the connection process smoothly[2]. Users may also choose the option to efficiently onboard devices with a simple scan of a QR code[3] with a smartphone camera.

Intuitively Adapts to Users Daily Routines

A smart home hub helps multiple devices, including thermostats, lighting, and power outlets, seamlessly interconnect with other devices connected to the smart home server, so they all work together to create a harmonised environment. SmartThings Station makes it easy to automate pre-set routines created via the SmartThings mobile app, without requiring users to control individual devices manually.

With a press of the Smart Button on the SmartThings Station, users can activate a routine created on their SmartThings app. For example, when it’s time for bed, a quick tap could trigger a routine for sleep – which could turn off the lights, close the blinds and lower the temperature. Or, if a movie night is on the cards, a movie routine could turn on the TV and dim the lights. When leaving home, the SmartThings Station can turn off power outlets and unused appliances to save energy, and activate a security system. Users might also want a gaming routine, which could activate specific TV and lighting settings and turn on ‘Do not Disturb’ mode.

Consumers can trigger up to three different routines just by pressing the Smart Button, with short press, long press, or double press activations. Routines can also be activated via the SmartThings app, whether people are at home or away.

Find and Manage Your Devices around Home More Accurately

SmartThings Station is also integrated with Samsung’s SmartThings Find, a rapidly growing asset tracking service. It helps users to find misplaced devices – double pressing the Smart Button can ring your nearby phone making it easier to find[4].

Serving as an always-at-home device scanner, SmartThings Station helps Samsung Galaxy users to keep track of the locations of their registered devices – from smartphones, tablets, watches, and earbuds to personal belongings such as keys or a wallet that have a Galaxy SmartTag or SmartTag+[5] device attached. By routinely scanning for devices, SmartThings Station will tell users the location of connected smart devices or tags around the home, and share an alert on the user’s smartphone when a tag or device leaves or returns home[6].

A Fast Charging Pad That Fits Perfectly in a Smart Home

SmartThings Station is also a powerful charging pad supporting up to 15W wireless charging[7]. Fast charging is an ingenious addition to a Smart Home hub because it works so well with the rhythms of life. Users can choose to receive an alert when charging is completed, so they can pick up play where they have left off or switch to charge another device.
