LONDON, United Kingdom – 20th October 2023 – Samsung has introduced a clever feature on Samsung’s TV range[1] which can reduce energy consumption by up

LONDON, United Kingdom – 20th October 2023 – Samsung has introduced a clever feature on Samsung’s TV range[1] which can reduce energy consumption by up to 12%[2], helping people save money by cleverly detecting if you are in the room or not and dimming accordingly.

As more people become energy-conscious, consumers are seeking new ways to be mindful of their environmental impact, reduce their carbon footprint and save money where they can. This simple feature can mean saving valuable pounds off your energy bill as it analyses your usage to save you money.

Samsung Electronics, a global leader in the TV industry, has been propelling its commitment towards sustainable tech through a series of new features, including AI Energy Mode. This feature can be easily accessed through the SmartThings app, Samsung’s integrated and expansive multi-device ecosystem controller, so users can easily lower their energy consumption and monitor their homes’ energy usage – starting with the television.

What is AI Energy Mode?

A smart energy-saving feature which monitors energy usage in real-time and adjusts to the environment. It works by using the TV’s built-in processor and sensors to analyse viewing environments and ambient light and automatically adjusts relevant settings to save energy.

How do I use it?

The feature will be powered by Samsung’s SmartThings app, which serves as a remote control for the entire home. Simply open the SmartThings app, activate AI Energy Mode and let the TV’s AI processor handle the rest.

What’s more, the immersive 3D Map View on the SmartThings app shows a bird’s eye view of the home so users can easily see their devices* at-a-glance to oversee and manage energy consumption.

What does AI Energy Mode do?**

Environment Adaptive Brightness: The built-in light sensor automatically adjusts screen brightness based on surrounding light conditions. Using advanced motion sensor, the TV automatically dims brightness when it detects no viewer actively for more than two hours.

Content Adaptive Brightness: Using advanced AI technology, the TV’s processor analyses on-screen motion and dynamically adjusts scene brightness.

What are the benefits?

Al Energy Mode can reduce energy consumption by 12 percent1, enabling users to take a step towards an eco-conscious future.

Generate real-time hourly, daily, weekly and monthly records of energy consumption and comparative cost for the specified timeframe. Users can also diagnose usage patterns of the TV and detect situations where they are wasting energy or exceeding a set budget for the month.

[1] AI Energy Mode is available on SmartTV models released in 2023 (CU7000 or higher) and Lifestyle TV models released in 2023 (LS03C or higher).

[2] Based on Neo QLED 8K 65QN800C. Energy consumption results, Al Energy Mode based on internal tests. Energy saving rate is based on internal tests, may vary depending on ambient brightness and content. 12% saving rate is measured in the ambient illuminance 100 lux environment, and in an environment exceeding 120 lux, some of the Al energy saving functions may work, which may reduce the energy saving rate.

*Compatible devices required.

**Energy saving may vary according to model, viewing conditions or types of content. Does not work with gameplay or viewing priority modes. Energy savings based on internal test results and may vary. Requires SmartThings app, Internet connection, and SmartThings enabled devices. Adaptive Brightness will not operate in environments exceeding 80 lux.

London, UK – 23rd March 2023 – New research by Samsung Electronics UK Ltd. suggests grey is the new magnolia, with a third (30 percent) of the nation saying they would be more likely to buy a home if the kitchen – the most important room, according to nearly four in ten (37 percent) – and living rooms were painted “light grey”.

Houses with a dark blue or navy front door are the most appealing to potential buyers (27 percent), according to the study of 2,000 UK adults. The research also revealed the colours to avoid if you want to sell your house, with pink, purple and burgundy topping the list. Overall, 79 percent of those surveyed insist that the colour of a room can instantly affect mood.

The study also revealed a list of house-hunting ‘turn ons’, with the bedrooms being a good size coming top of the list with 63 percent of the vote. A large kitchen (56 percent), sizeable garden (56 percent), a private drive (49 percent), built in kitchen appliances (28 percent), and a smart front door (20 percent) also featured high on the list of things we look for in a new home. The colour of the outside of the home (17 percent) and the rooms inside (16 percent) also featured in the list.

In addition, close to two thirds (63 percent) admit that they love when a colour scheme runs through the entire house with home appliances that match, such as Samsung’s Bespoke Range which come in a range of colours to suit all tastes.

And when it comes to what puts us off a property, unreliable boilers and central heating systems (50 percent), a lack of natural light (48 percent), no double glazing (47 percent), and an old kitchen that would need updating (30 percent) all topped of the list.

While 27 percent said they wouldn’t consider a property with a living room that wasn’t big enough for their TV, and 15 percent said a house painted in colours they disliked would put them off it instantly.

Dan Harvie, VP, Head of Home Appliances, Samsung Electronics (UK) Ltd., said: “Colour is clearly a huge factor for the nation when it comes to buying a house and can affect purchasing decisions. With six in ten wanting appliances that fit with the colour scheme of their property, it highlights the need for customisable and personalised products. There are now a variety of stylish and unique products on the market that allow you to do just this, offering individuals the chance to choose options that suit their own personal style and truly complement their home colour choices.

“For example, Samsung’s Bespoke Range is designed to meet consumers needs in line with their ever-evolving lifestyle and personal preferences. The range allows them to match their appliances to their space, with 14 different colours[1] to make their home their own. Samsung Bespoke products include refrigerators, ovens, laundry appliances and vacuums.”

And if that’s not enough, Samsung’s SmartThings app gives you more control over your smart devices by connecting, automating, and managing everything in one easy-to-use app. From a variety of versatile configurations to create your perfect refrigerator to stylish vacuums that are too good to be locked away, Samsung has you covered – keeping products relevant for longer.

The study found that 79 percent of the nation believes that the colour of a room affects their mood, with a red room the most likely to make us feel angry (29 percent), a blue room most likely to make us feel cold (24 percent), a yellow room most likely to make us feel happy (20 percent), and a green room most likely to make us feel calm (19 percent).

In addition, the study found that, so important is colour to our buying decisions, that 33 percent of the nation claim they’d possibly walk away from a beautiful home if it were painted in colours we disliked – while 13 percent said they’d definitely walk away.

And 88 percent of the nation said the smell of a property could either definitely or probably impact whether they wanted to move in. Get a bun in the oven if you want to encourage a viewer to buy your home, as the smell of freshly baked bread was the most appealing fragrance for a house viewing, according to 41 percent of those polled. Fresh flowers (40 percent), vanilla candles (33 percent), freshly made coffee (33 percent) and freshly washed laundry (25 percent) are all also popular smells for a house viewing.

Samsung has partnered with TV personality and property expert Phil Spencer for expert advice when it comes to colour in the home. He said: “Colour is hugely important and influential in the home; it can totally transform the look and feel of a room and home. It is just as much about how somewhere can make you ‘feel’ as much as how large, or how practical a space can be – this is especially important when putting your home up for sale and attempting to entice buyers, whilst trying to achieve the best price possible.”

Overall, 78 percent of those polled said they instantly knew if they wanted to move into a new property as soon as they went inside.

[1] Refrigeration colours include, Glass: Clean Black, Clean White, Satin Beige, Satin Sky Blue, Glam Navy, Glam Peach and Glam Lavender.

LONDON, UK – 17th October 2022 – As the days draw shorter, and the weather becomes colder, the nation will look to spend more time in the home – using more household energy. With energy prices at an all-time high, Samsung’s teamed up with money-saving expert, Mrs Mummypenny, to share energy saving tips that will not just keep your home warmer this winter – but will help you make some real cost savings, too.

Smart Cooking

With a conventional oven, be careful to only preheat for the designated time. If possible, cook multiple dishes in your oven at once – with Samsung’s Dual Cook technology, you can run a single oven at two different temperatures, effectively giving you a double oven without needing more space. What’s more, if you don’t need the full oven, Dual Cook saves 25% on energy and pre-heats 52% faster by only using the top half[1]. And avoid opening the oven door whilst cooking – doing so drops the oven’s temperature by 25 degrees each time[2]. But when you have finished cooking, open the oven door to heat up the kitchen a little.

Drop One-Degree

‘Energy Saving Trust’ states that even turning down your room thermostat by just one degree can save £145 a year[3]! If 22 degrees is your preferred temperature, reduce it to 21 degrees. Aim for the lowest setting that keeps the room at a comfortable temperature, as this will reduce the volume of hot water, using less energy and save you money. Put it down to 19 degrees and wear a jumper. Just a one-degree reduction is a huge saving – keep track of how much energy you are using on the Samsung SmartThings App.

Do Fewer, But Larger Laundry Loads

Your washing machine is one of the most heavily used appliances in the home and will use about the same amount of energy no matter the size of the load, so fill it up. Samsung’s new Series 5, 5+, 6+ and 8 Washing Machines feature SpaceMax Technology, allowing for greater wash loads of up to 11KG – ideal for busy households. Plus, the unique AI powered ecobubble Technology generates bubbles that help wash clothes at cooler temperatures – 30 degrees is fine, even when washing children’s muddy clothes. This means you can remove stubborn, everyday stains with less heat, helping save on energy bills. Also, always use the economy mode of washing machines and dishwashers if there is an option.

Consider a Heat Pump

The initial cost may be higher, but Samsung’s energy efficient Heat Pump tumble dryers make sure clothes are optimally dried while saving on power consumption. It works by absorbing water from the laundry by passing hot air through the drum, which evaporates and removes the water. This air is then reheated and sent back through the drum multiple times until the laundry is dry.
Defrost Your Freezer

The more ice you have built up in your freezer, the more work its motor must do, which means more energy. It’s not much of a difference daily but left over a year it can add £100-£200 to your energy bills[5]. Samsung’s clever No Frost technology eliminates ice build-up by extracting air and humidity to maintain an even temperature, meaning you never have to defrost your freezer. What’s more, Samsung has the most energy efficient freestanding American fridge freezer on the market[6] that features Twin Cooling Plus technology, helping to maintain food freshness.

“Reducing your energy consumption is key to saving money this winter given the energy price cap increase from 1st October. The energy price cap is £2,500, based on standard average family usage, however this is just a cap on the unit price charged by your energy provider. If you use more, you will pay more.”

“Following these tips on everyday living will save you money, pick and choose those that work for your family, or do them all and save. We all need to do things differently this winter. Heat the person not the house. Nag the family to follow the same principles. And track how much energy you are using on the Samsung SmartThings App.”
