Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a Worldwide Mobile and Computing Equipment Partner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), announced the official selection of 10 global Solve for Tomorrow Ambassador teams as part of its ongoing corporate citizenship initiatives.

The announcement was made in Milan, where the ambassador program announcement was held in conjunction with the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. The three-day program ran from Feb. 8–10 and including an appointment ceremony, a solution exhibition and networking activities.

Solve for Tomorrow is Samsung’s global problem-solving platform that supports young people in developing innovative STEM-based solutions to address local and global challenges. This year’s global ambassadors were selected from winning teams of Solve for Tomorrow regional competitions around the world, with the final selection being made through a joint evaluation by Samsung and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) based on the innovation, scalability and social impact of each solution. The 10 selected teams are divided into two focus areas — Sport & Tech, and Accessibility & Environment — with five teams chosen in each category.

As part of the Ambassador program, each selected team will receive funding, along with up to two years of continued support from Samsung to help transform their prototypes into commercially viable products. Five teams in the Sport & Tech category will be jointly supported by Samsung and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Raye Woon who represented Team CuraStep from the UK as a Samsung Solve For Tomorrow Ambassador in Sport & Tech said “It is incredibly rewarding to see our idea represented on a global stage and how far we’ve come in our mission to help diabetic patients worldwide. The Solve for Tomorrow community is extraordinary, and I’m delighted to be a part of it. As an ambassador, I look forward to championing the next generation of tech-for-good leaders!”

Sustainable Innovation in Sport & Tech

Held under the theme “Sport & Tech,” the aim of Samsung’s 2026 Ambassador program is to empower youth to drive sustainable innovation through the intersection of sports, technology and leadership. The official appointment ceremony took place at Samsung House in Milan and was attended by approximately 80 global stakeholders, including IOC President Kirsty Coventry; Jae Youl Kim, IOC Executive Board Member and President of Samsung Global Research; Olympism 365 Commission Chair Auvita Rapilla; Olympism 365 Commission Member Nawal El Moutawakel; and Won-Jin Lee, President and Head of Global Marketing at Samsung Electronics.

Commitment moment in the appointment ceremony underscored the shared commitment of Samsung and the IOC to jointly nurturing future talent and empowering young people to help shape a better world. This commitment was brought to life through a stage performance in which the composite logos of both organizations were brought together by unfolding and overlapping the Galaxy Z TriFold, completing the visual composition. The act of opening the TriFold symbolically represented the expansion of ideas and potential, as well as the shared belief of Samsung and the IOC in opening new possibilities as young people step forward to lead the future.

“The projects are truly inspiring: full of creativity, imagination, and passion to make a real difference. You’re using technology to shape a future that is more inclusive, more sustainable, healthier and more active,” said IOC President Coventry. “I am especially excited to see the first-ever Sport & Tech winners — combining sport, technology, and problem-solving in ways that can truly change lives.”

“Through Solve for Tomorrow and our collaboration with the IOC, we are creating environments where young people can discover their strengths, express their ideas, and contribute meaningfully to society,” said Global Marketing Head Lee. “We are not only supporting innovation but also nurturing future leaders who will carry forward the values of excellence, respect, friendship — and creativity.”

Solution Exhibition and Innovation Workshop

On Feb. 9, the ambassador teams showcased the solutions they developed at Smart City Lab in Milan and attended an innovation-themed workshop led by the IOC’s Olympism365 Innovation Hub that will equip the ambassadors with the skills to be an innovator of sustainable development in the world of sports. The exhibition was attended by representatives from the IOC, the Milano Cortina 2026 Organizing Committee and various Italian government agencies.

Former Solve for Tomorrow UK winner and member of the first cohort of Solve Ambassadors, Ramneek Kaur Ahluwalia, exhibited her project, MyVision – a tech-forward mobility aid designed to empower people with visual impairments. Ramneek, who has a visual impairment herself said “Partnering with Samsung to bring MyVision to life has been an amazing experience. I am thrilled to showcase my first physical prototype, demonstrating how this technology can truly transform the lives of the visually impaired community globally.”

On Feb. 10, the ambassadors took part in a series of on-site programs and official activities, as well as a visit to the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Village. Through these experiences, Samsung is supporting the ambassadors in deepening their understanding of sports, technology and the meaning of the Olympic Games and the Olympic spirit.

Samsung Electronics UK Co., Ltd., has revealed that Amy Garside and Charlotte Anders-James from Byrchall High School in Wigan, have won the 11-13 age category the annual Samsung Solve for Tomorrow tech for good idea competition – which invited 11-15 year olds to come up with tech powered solutions to help solve everyday problems.

Hundreds of secondary schools across the UK and Ireland signed up to receive free online resources to help inspire the next generation of innovators. Students learned the basics of design thinking, received insight into creative STEM careers, and were encouraged to enter their tech for good ideas into the challenge.

From over 1,100 ideas entered this year, Amy and Charlotte from Byrchall High School were awarded first place in the 11-13 age category with their innovative idea called ‘Meal Master’, an AI-powered food container that tracks nutritional information, caters for dietary needs and also offers recipes and helpful reminders such as nudges to stay hydrated.

Josh said of this award: “It was fantastic to meet Amy and Charlotte to give them their award for winning this year’s Samsung Solve for Tomorrow tech for good idea challenge. Before I was an MP, I worked in technology, and I know that out of the box thinking like the students at Byrchall have been doing is always needed, especially as tech gets more and more involved in our lives. Well done to them – I see bright things for their futures!”

Jessie Soohyun Park, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Samsung Electronics UK, said: “We believe every young person has the potential to become an innovator and to pursue a career in tech.

LONDON, UK – 4 July – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has announced the winners of its fifth annual Solve for Tomorrow competition, which aims to uncover the most promising tech inventions from young people by asking 16-25 year olds to come up with ideas that help solve societal challenges.

The ideas showcased the passion young people have for future innovation and their drive to design a better world – exploring how technology can solve the issues they care about while tackling broader societal challenges. Nottingham based Eseose Okotako (23) of team Athena was announced as the winner in the 18-25 category with their impressive idea, a haptic collar that syncs with any audio to translate music into tailored vibrations, allowing deaf users to feel melody, rhythm and emotion.

Meanwhile, in the 16-18 category, Manchester based trio Daniel Aju (18), Harris Asif (18) and Nahom Ghirmay (18) of team Sanoband were announced in first place following their idea of a device that aims to help individuals with alcohol addiction by detecting cravings early, preventing relapse and supporting long-term recovery.

This year marked the first time the competition shortlisted 100 young people for workshops and mentoring stage, an increase from 24 to 49 teams in total, nearly doubling the number of participants. Samsung also supported every shortlisted young person with Samsung products.

Entries this year ranged from an assistive glove that replaces the lost dexterity within people with immobile hands, to an AI-driven breast health app that syncs with wearables to guide self-exams, track changes, and generate clinician-ready reports. An app, designed by team HeartAware that uses an AI-powered tool on your phone to detect heart risks, also received critical acclaim from the judges.

On top of this, team Zera, who designed a thermoelectric device to ease menopausal symptoms also won the People’s Choice Award – the best of the finalist submissions, which was voted on by over 2,000 people on Samsung’s social channels.

The 100 were shortlisted by a panel of Samsung experts and tech-for-good founders who reviewed submissions from 508 eligible applicants across the country, 49 teams took part in a programme of design thinking, market research and a newly introduced physical and digital prototyping workshop. Throughout the process, they also received mentoring, support and guidance from Samsung colleagues to help bring their ideas to life.

The programme follows statistics released that show nearly two-thirds (60%) of young people across the UK are considering a career in technology. Yet, 96% of respondents believe there are barriers to entering the industry and 65% feel their personal background impacts their ability to harness their creativity through tech.[1] The Solve for Tomorrow programme exists to prove that young people from all walks of life can come up with ideas that can make a difference in the world through the use of technology.

The existing partnerships between Samsung UK and organisations such as InnovateHer and the Social Mobility Foundation are essential to this mission, helping to reach and support young people who aren’t currently in education, employment or training.

The shortlisted ten teams were invited to Samsung’s head offices to showcase their ideas and formally pitch to a panel of Samsung experts and tech entrepreneurs. This was followed by the annual Solve for Tomorrow awards ceremony, where the winners were crowned.

Speaking about this year’s Solve for Tomorrow competition, Soohyun Jessie Park, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Samsung Electronics UK, said: “Solve for Tomorrow continues to empower young people to reflect on what truly matters to them whilst simultaneously channelling these passions into tangible action. It’s phenomenal to witness what young people are capable of even within the space of four months on the programme. Their commitment and passion is an inspiration and we’re so excited to support Eseose and team Sanoband to bring their ideas closer to the communities they care about.”

Eseose from team Athena, said: “It was an amazing experience being a part of this year’s Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition. You don’t need qualifications or a team to enter – just a great idea! The experience has been incredibly valuable and helped with my confidence, and I strongly encourage anyone who is interested to give it a go. I’m glad I did!”

More details on how to enter the next Solve for Tomorrow competition will be announced later this year.

The event also provided opportunities to engage with IOC officials and other Young Leaders from around the world. Ramneek met with Sherief Kholeif, a U.K.-based IOC Young Leader, to discuss sports programs for marginalised youth in Scotland and exchanged ideas participants on the social impact of combining sport and technology.

Building on its participation in the Olympism365 Summit and the IOC Youth Summit, Samsung plans to strengthen its collaboration with the IOC by designating “Social Change Through Sport & Technology” as its global theme for Solve for Tomorrow 2025. In doing so, the company will continue to support young people worldwide in developing creative, practical ideas to drive positive change in their communities.

“It was a pleasure to meet Ramneek,” said one of Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow ambassadors at the IOC Youth Summit. “Her innovative and thoughtful ideas are inspiring. It is encouraging to see Samsung paving way for young students around the world who believe in creating a more accessible and inclusive future through innovation. I hope the Solve for Tomorrow program continues to create meaningful opportunities for my fellow young leaders and that together we can make a difference combining technology and sport.”

LONDON, UK – October 30, 2024 – Samsung Electronics Co. (UK) Ltd has unveiled that Northern Ireland is set to become the ‘Silicon Valley’ of the United Kingdom, with a staggering 77% of young people in the country looking to pursue a career in technology. The findings align with data from the Intellectual Property Office, which shows that patent applications have increased by 33% in Northern Ireland between 2022-23, compared to an increase of just 11% in London.

Whilst a high proportion of young people living in the Capital are considering working in technology (69%), other potential hotbeds for future innovators include the West Midlands (63%), North-East (63%), East of England (62%), East Midlands (61%) and Yorkshire and The Humber (57%).

In terms of cities, Coventry scored highly (79%), with Cambridge (76%) and Birmingham (71%) also being seen as future hotbeds for inventions and tech.

When it comes to motivation, almost half (48%) of young people polled were confident that they could invent or develop a technology product that would positively impact society. This desire for ‘tech for good’ can also be seen amongst the 85% of young people who believe that a career in technology would allow them to positively contribute to society, and the 20% who would be interested in working in tech start-ups with societal purpose. Other key areas of technology young people aspire to have a career in include app development (41%), cybersecurity (35%), AI for Good (31%) and health-based technology (30%).

The findings have been released as Samsung launches its fifth Solve for Tomorrow competition, which aims to find and support young innovators across the UK.

The research revealed that although young people are particularly ambitious when it comes to their ability to make positive change to the world through tech, they are facing challenges in making this a reality. In fact, the study found 39 per cent of those polled believe there are too few resources for them to make a change in society through technology. This is despite a third (33%) believing they have what it takes to create the next big tech invention.

Breaking Barriers To Entry

Despite the ambition of young people across the country, there’s still a strong sense that making a change in the world through tech isn’t an option for everyone. When asked, 96% of young people believed there are barriers to entering the tech industry, and 65% believe that their personal background impacts their ability to harness their creativity through tech.

A lack of education (40%), practical experience (36%) and lack of contacts or mentors in the industry (31%) were listed as the top barriers to entry for young people.

Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow competition asks 16–25-year-olds to come up with ideas that help solve societal challenges, then help bring them to life through offering free educational workshops, mentoring, funding and support.

Commenting on the competition launch, Soohyun Jessie Park, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Samsung Electronics UK, said: “We’re beyond excited to kick-off our fifth year of Solve for Tomorrow. Innovation is for everyone and no young person should ever feel discouraged to pursue a good idea. This is why we’re proud to be working with our partners Social Mobility Foundation and InnovateHer again this year. Our research shows the UK is full of young people with confidence and potential, but they still feel like they don’t have the support they need to make a difference through tech. That’s what the Solve for Tomorrow programme aims to address.”

Applications to the competition are now open, following a panel discussion launch event held at Samsung KX to inspire future changemakers, and featuring rapper and entrepreneur, Krept. The competition offers two age categories – 16-18 and 18-25. Winning teams in both categories receive £10,000 cash prize in funding, and three months expert mentoring with a personalised action plan, to help bring their ideas to life. Young people across the country can visit the Solve For Tomorrow website for more information, and enter here.

About his role as a Solve for Tomorrow ambassador, British musician, broadcaster and entrepreneur, Krept. said: “As an entrepreneur, I’ve been in the position where you have an idea but you don’t know how to make it a reality. It’s a struggle everyone faces, but unfortunately, it’s easier for some to get around that than others. Programmes like Solve for Tomorrow from Samsung are great – they help remove the barriers young people face, whether it’s not having a degree or not knowing the right person – I’m thrilled to be involved in this initiative.”

Sarah Atkinson, CEO of Social Mobility Foundation, said of the programme partnership: “Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. At The Social Mobility Foundation, we work towards creating a culture where young people from all social backgrounds can thrive, leading to more representation and innovation. Solve for Tomorrow equips and empowers young minds to create solutions to real-world issues and we are proud to be partnering again with Samsung on this exciting initiative.”

Talking at the panel event at KX, Chelsea Slater, CEO at InnovateHer, also commented: “We’re thrilled to partner with Samsung on the Solve for Tomorrow initiative, which aligns perfectly with InnovateHer’s mission to empower the next generation of diverse innovators. This programme gives young people, especially girls, the opportunity to tackle real-world problems using technology, while building essential skills for the future. By working together, we’re ensuring that more young women are inspired, included, and equipped to lead in the tech industry—helping to create a more inclusive and innovative future for everyone.”

LONDON, UK – 12 August, 2024: Samsung Electronics Co. (UK) Ltd has revealed the winners of its fourth Solve for Tomorrow Next Gen Competition, on the theme of inclusivity.

Hundreds of secondary schools across the UK and Ireland signed up to receive free online resources including an interactive video lesson to help inspire the next generation of innovators. Students aged 11-15 learned the basics of Design Thinking and received insight into creative STEM careers such as design and marketing.

Students were encouraged to enter their tech-for-good ideas into the competition, which was judged by a panel of Samsung employees.

In the 11-13 age category, Millie, from William Farr School was awarded first place with her innovation ‘My Bear’, which encourages children and young people to tackle hate by learning about other cultures. By linking the bear to an app, the user is rewarded with points.

Lorelei, Ruby, and Riya from Croydon High School, were awarded first place in the 13-15 category with their entry – a covert safety bangle designed for girls and women to support them whilst travelling alone. The bangle includes optional charms to allow the wearer to equip SOS signals, voice recording devices, a torch and more.

The runners-up in the 11-13 age category were Heinrich, Olly, and Charles from Somerhill School – awarded second place for their asthma focused smartwatch, designed to reduce the impact of asthma attacks through the use of medical statistics, and the ability to call medical services.

In the 13-15 age category, the runners-up were Natalia and Tammie from Thornhill College – awarded second place for their smart device app Speak4Me, which enables mute and non-verbal children to communicate using images they can upload.

Commenting on the competition, Soohyun Jessie Park, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Samsung Electronics UK, said: “The entries to our Solve for Tomorrow Next Gen competition never fail to disappoint, and this year once again proved that the very best ideas can come from anyone, age is no barrier. Since its launch in 2021, the programme has become active in over 30% secondary schools across the UK and Ireland, and this year we were thrilled to receive a record number of competition entries, totalling 1,153. Each of those entries are a testament to the creativity of young people when they’re given the right resources and support. We’ll continue to find new ways to support the next generation of innovators, whilst celebrating this year’s winners.”

Mr. Wright, Teacher at William Farr School, said: “I would definitely recommend the programme to other teachers. Today, in design and technology, being able to access something that allows students to develop something that could potentially become real, and then have the interaction, feedback and potential reward, has all the tick-points that make it a brilliant programme to enter. We will definitely be taking part next year and extend it to the 13-15 year old category.”

Millie, winner in the 11-13 category, said: “My favourite part was thinking about the product and how I could make it better. Although it was the hardest part it was all worth it in the end. My biggest lesson is that I can do things to help other people – I wouldn’t have thought I could win! I would definitely recommend the programme to my friends, my advice would be to work on something that is personal to them.”

Each participant on the winning teams will receive a Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 and a VIP invitation to attend a Samsung Solve for Tomorrow event. The teacher responsible for submitting the winning entry will also receive a Samsung Galaxy Book3, and the winner’s school and school with the most entries will get a Samsung 65″ Smart TV. Each participant in the runner-up teams will receive a pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds2, while the teacher responsible for submitting their entry will receive a Samsung Galaxy Tab S9.

Although the 2024 competition has now concluded, resources for schools can still be accessed.

The “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” project was developed by Samsung and the IOC to help Olympic and Paralympic fans around the world experience and engage with the Olympic Movement.

“Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” introduces three new community-oriented initiatives. Solve Challenge integrates sport and Olympism with Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow programme, a youth-focused social contribution program that empowers young people to design innovative solutions using sport and tech to address key social challenges aligned with the priorities of the IOC’s Olympism365. Move Challenge encourages fans of the Games around the globe to get up and walk more using Samsung’s smart mobile phone. Create Challenge lets participants get creative in an innovative digital artists’ community through Samsung’s smart device and S pen.

They will also collaborate with the IOC Young Leader — as well as diverse initiatives fostered by the IOC — to address solutions including the promotion of sustainable development.

During the “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” event, the ambassadors shared their Solve for Tomorrow projects designed to address real-world problems. A variety of innovative solutions were presented, ranging from help for people to overcome visual disabilities to new ways to promote worker safety.

“Samsung Solve for Tomorrow empowers high school students with the courage to change the world,” said Ngan Huu Kim Le, a member of the U.S. team that developed an insect-based environmental cleanup solution. “It’s an honour to take part and have a chance to present our solution to help build a brighter future for our planet here at Paris 2024 with prominent athletes from around the world.”

“I am impressed by the opportunities that “Samsung Solve for Tomorrow” has given to hundreds of thousands of young people to develop as future leaders,” said IOC President Thomas Bach. “They will be our innovators of tomorrow, and I look forward to seeing them tackle various challenges facing our world. We’re pleased to join with our Worldwide Partner Samsung to continue to work together to identify and support talented young people at the intersection of sport and technology through the “Together for Tomorrow, Enabling People” initiative.”

“This project — creating a program in which young people can directly participate and experience Olympic values — is a wonderful outcome from our long-standing collaboration with the IOC,” said YH Lee, President and Head of Global Marketing Office at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to support young people to take on bold and meaningful challenges toward a brighter future.”
