London, U.K – August 20, 2024 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today unveiled new global research around how Gen Z is paving their own path when it comes to work – and the role of mobile AI as one of the most pivotal technologies of today.

Surveying over 1000[1] participants aged 18 to 27-year-olds in the UK, Samsung found that over half (51%) of Gen Z’s found the realities of full-time work fell short of their expectations. Faced with challenges from perceived inflexibility to job market volatility,79% of UK respondents are dreaming of starting side hustles where they can follow their true passions, amounting to 73% globally.

The study found that the majority of respondents believe mobile technology is their biggest ally when it comes to starting a side hustle or supporting a current one, and AI plays a significant role in the growing side hustle culture.

Globally, 62% say AI is the first resource that comes to mind when they need help at work – with Korean respondents engaging with it the most (80%). And as AI becomes an integral part of side hustle culture worldwide, those who are dissatisfied with their traditional workplace are significantly more likely to harness the emerging technology compared to the generation at large. With 75% of the global cohort agreeing that AI helps them get things done more effectively, the growing AI-first mindset of the digital generation is clear.

In fact, when it comes to boosting productivity and creativity at work, more than half of Gen Z’s in the UK (59%) state AI as their go-to tool. The 2024 AI-Preneur Effect: How Gen Z and Next-Gen Tech are Transforming Work Culture highlights the integral role AI already plays in this trend among 2024 graduates and Gen Z at large.

“These findings show AI has become pivotal for young entrepreneurs and offer a glimpse into how the technology can open – not close – new skills, new passions and, ultimately, new career paths,” said Stephanie Choi, EVP and Head of Marketing for Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “Enabling this type of potential is what drives the cutting-edge innovation in our latest Galaxy Book AI PCs – and that’s only the beginning of what is to come as we continue unlocking AI’s life-changing potential for even more users around the globe.”

Mobile AI Positioned to Drive Success

Specific use cases are still emerging, but it’s clear young side hustlers are starting to apply this technology in new ways. Of those who use AI in their day-to-day, 47% of Gen Z’s in the UK say they use it to summarise documents or meeting notes and over a third (39%) consider AI useful for conducting research or finding inspiration.

Still, the adoption of AI comes with some apprehension. The study found that Gen Z is excited about AI’s potential to transform work, with a majority 66% of those in the UK expressing optimism for its capabilities. However, many are also overwhelmed and unsure about the vast array of new AI apps available to them (63%).

Galaxy Unlocks Next-Gen AI Potential

These findings come as Samsung launches the Galaxy Book4 Edge –its next-generation AI PC, built with cutting-edge hybrid AI integrations and offering the most hyperconnected mobile AI ecosystem yet.

Representing Samsung’s next step into the era of mobile AI, the Galaxy Book4 Edge enables users to get more done, faster, helping to unlock creative potential for Gen Z as they strive for side hustle success. It’s nearly unanimous – 96% of young current hustlers globally are keen to explore using AI tools to boost success. They specifically cite interest in capabilities such as easily finding documents on their device and activating tasks on their smartphone through their laptop – simple, everyday actions, but when streamlined with mobile AI, can help free up time for pursuing passions and a future of open possibilities.

Methodology

Samsung partnered with independent market research firm Edelman Data & Intelligence and Dynata to conduct a five-minute global online survey of n=5,048 Gen Z respondents and n=2,004 Gen Z side hustlers in France, Germany, Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States from May 2-16, 2024. The survey was fielded among Gen Z respondents, who were defined as adults ages 18-27, and data was collected to ensure a representative sample in each market by age, gender, region and race/ethnicity. Gen Z side hustlers were defined as those who in the past year have earned supplemental income and followed their passions through work or activities outside of their main job or education. The total Gen Z side hustlers sample of n=2,004 was comprised of n=681 from the main Gen Z sample plus an oversample of n=1,323 Gen Z side hustlers. The study has a margin of error at the 95% level of confidence of ±1.4% for Gen Z respondents and ±2.2% for Gen Z side hustlers. Results from surveys may be limited, not exhaustive, and based solely on surveyed individuals, not the entire group.

LONDON, UK – 15th December 2022 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd: Entertainment platforms like TikTok have taken the music world by storm, so it’s no surprise to see the next generation having an appetite for a career within the music industry. In fact, almost half of Brits (44%) find their musical inspiration on social media and a similar amount (43%) turn to platforms such as TikTok.

Research by Samsung UK reveals 1 in 3 (31%) young Brits dream of being a music star on entertainment platforms like TikTok, but nearly a fifth (18%) admit they lack the inspiration to put their music creations into practice.

Despite over half (55%) saying they have the best music taste of their friends and family, a quarter (25%) admit that creating and sharing music would be out of their comfort zone. However, a further one in three (38 percent) would jump at the chance to learn more about making and sharing their own music online.

Brits love consuming music content online, but the latest research by Samsung reveals that they need a helping hand when it comes to creating their own sounds. To offer inspiration to aspiring artists, Samsung has partnered with music legend and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, Nile Rodgers for the Make It With Nile docuseries, to uncover the new ways music is being made today, thanks to mobile technologies and entertainment platforms like TikTok.

Reasons that the next generation turn to online platforms for their new music fix:

34% like the fact that they can discover more new music

28% find the tracks more creative

18% say they can access more niche material

What’s holding them back from becoming a music creator and sharing their own content online? 1 in 4 (24%) put this down to not having access to the right technology, while others felt they were not musical enough (23%), others find it too nerve wrecking (21%) and lastly, 20% felt they don’t have enough time to invest.

TikTok music duo ALTÉGO, collaborators who featured in one of the episodes, reveal their advice for aspiring creators to take their music to the next level.

ALTÉGO said: “For us, music is about enjoyment.
Six hours and 42 minutes are spent on the hunt for Christmas presents for family and friends but once bought, it takes just two hours and 41 minutes to wrap them up

The research was commissioned by Samsung, who has partnered with Fearne Cotton to reveal her secrets on planning for the perfect Christmas

The average Brit spends a huge 41 hours and 37 minutes preparing for Christmas on jobs such as food and gift shopping, decorating the home and selecting the perfect tree.

Jobs such as cleaning ahead of Christmas Day takes an average of four hours and 12 minutes whilst food shopping takes three hours and 28 minutes.

The new report of 2,000 UK adults commissioned by Samsung revealed it takes an average of six hours and 42 minutes to shop for gifts for loved ones but just two hours and 41 minutes to wrap everything up.

When it comes to decorating, just over two-and-a-half hours are set aside to get the home looking its festive best – and the Christmas tree alone takes nearly 40 minutes to prepare.

For those buying a new tree, they will spend around 21 minutes mulling over their options for the perfect centrepiece for the living room.

The research was commissioned by Samsung, which has partnered with Fearne Cotton to reveal how she plans her Christmas and what she enjoys the most.

“Christmas trends to really kickstart for me, once I’ve had my first mulled wine, that’s when I really feel it’s happening, it’s on… it’s the taste of Christmas.”

“My favourite Christmas thing is to watch a Christmas film with the kids, that’s a blissful moment. We watched a Boy Called Christmas last year and just loved every second of getting really cosy under a blanket.”

When discussing the prep for Christmas dinner, Fearne added: “My husband is a really good cook, so he tends to do all of the meat, the turkey and all the jazz and then we share the veg and I do the pud, I’m very controlling about the pud, I do the pud.”

The study also highlighted Brits opinion on the best Christmas tree with 54% of the belief that being tastefully decorated is the key sign it is a good tree. While 35% want a Christmas tree which isn’t wilting by the time the 25th December rolls around, and 30% want to ensure theirs is wide and bushy.

When it comes to getting in the festive mood, decorating the tree is the top task to feel Christmassy, followed by wrapping and shopping for gifts.

More than four in 10 (41%) also start to feel festive when they are making plans to catch up with friends and family throughout December.

When it comes to welcoming people over the festive season, the average adult will spend as long as four hours and 12 minutes tidying the house.

After the festivities and between the Christmas Eve and Boxing Day period, Brits spend over three hours in the kitchen cleaning up. Although 48% recognise their family makes more mess over the festive season, with 41% admitting they would rather be hosted than host at Christmas.

The research also found 41% rely heavily on their smartphones to get ready for the festive celebrations.

When asked about using technology at Christmas Fearne comments: “The most obvious, brilliant thing we can use tech for is connections with other humans whether its chatting to someone on the other side of the planet or texting one of your best mates. I think it’s integral that if you feel lonely at Christmas that you do reach out and talk to other people that you know are there for you and want to have a friendly chat and make you laugh or just sit there and listen to you.”

28% use their device to do their shopping on-the-go, while 28% also make a multitude of to-do lists on their phones to keep on top of their tasks.

Music is also planned with technology as 16% claim they rely on their smartphone to make the ultimate Christmas playlist.

Fearne Cotton added: “I love all Christmas songs; I love Christmas songs. I don’t even get bored of them; I listen to the same ones every year.

I think Mariah Carey, all though totally obvious and a cliché, is still the best, but I’m no stranger to a Rat Pack Christmas album – whole album listening to Frank crooning away with Dean, yes please”

Overall Christmas prep 41hrs 37mins

Food shopping 3hrs 28mins

Present shopping 6hrs 42mins

Wrapping presents 2hrs 41mins

Annika Bizon, Marketing and Omnichannel Director at Samsung said:

“As Fearne mentions, one of the best things we utilise our technology for is maintaining those all-important connections with loved ones. Whether you’re contacting someone on the other side of the road or wanting to message your friends on Christmas Day, the power of technology enables us to do that seamlessly. “

LONDON, UK – 13th December 2022 – Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd today released the 2022 Pet Living Study, revealing how the rise in pet ownership across Europe is shaping our technology choices as well as our interaction with technology at home. More than half of people surveyed think technology can help improve their pets’ wellbeing (56%), keep them active (56%), improve their health (52%) and/or reduce separation anxiety (52%).

There are now more pets in European households than children [1], [2]. The survey shows that close to two-thirds (63%) of pet owners consider their pets as beloved family members. So, like parents with their children, it’s unsurprising that pets have become influential in shaping home life and buying decisions:

Almost half (47%) of respondents admitted they have changed their home setup to accommodate their pets

One-third (32%) agreed having a pet impacted their decision-making when buying a new household appliance

Close to a third (30%) said having a pet impacted their decision on what personal technology device to buy

The survey shows that tech-savvy owners would like to be able to use technology to clean up after their pets using vacuum cleaners (53%), keeping them fed using automatic feeders (49%) and using location trackers to monitor their movements (48%). Of those who do use technology, almost two-fifths said it is to keep their pets safe (36%), for their own peace of mind (36%) and for added convenience (33%).

Benjamin Braun, Chief Marketing Officer for Samsung Europe said: “More homes have pets than they do children in Europe. This is changing our purchase decisions when it comes to technology. That’s why at Samsung we develop products with both humans and pets in mind. We know that pets are beloved family members so we continue to develop technology that optimises our homes for pets so they can lead happier, healthier lives.”

Keeping pets happy and healthy – no matter the cost

At a time when households are facing the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, pet owners aren’t looking to compromise when it comes to their pets.

A huge 59% of surveyed respondents said they do not plan to cut down on overall spending for their pets – while a majority (61%) said they would make other sacrifices first before they consider cutting back the amount they spend on their pets. Some owners stated they would reduce their spending on everything from necessities such as utilities (27%) and socialising with friends (40%) before cutting back their spend on their animal companions.

Loneliness is a top concern for most pet owners

As many people have returned to the office post-pandemic, loneliness is now a big concern for pet owners who face leaving their animal companions home alone for extended periods of time. Almost half (46%) of respondents said they are worried about their pets getting lonely, a number rising amongst younger people – half (50%) of owners aged 18-34 admitted this concern when it comes to their pets.

In fact, when it comes to leaving their pets at home, concerns about pets feeling lonely and bored topped other worries such as the cost of caring for a pet and the damage pets can cause to their house, furniture or garden. Two fifths (40%) of respondents said they worry more about their pets now that pandemic restrictions have lifted.

It appears many concerned pet owners may be turning to technology for help, with nearly half (48%) of respondents who use technology for their pet being worried about their pets getting lonely.

Benjamin Braun, Chief Marketing Officer for Samsung Europe adds: “Our homes are becoming more digital and smarter. We are developing our home solutions for all family members. Whether that be for you, your children, or your pet. Samsung’s SmartThings for pets allows owners to create the optimal environment for their pets.

For example, if your pet is wearing a SmartTag, you can see where they are on a map, and play a tune for them to come home or you can switch on the TV or lights remotely.”

Samsung’s Pet model vacuums go beyond the function of a standard vacuum. These models are specifically designed to address the needs of pet owners for cleaning their homes, making it the perfect vacuum to help keep pet-friendly homes feeling fresh.

The future of technology for pets

Pet owners are optimistic about the benefits technology can bring to their pets’ lives. But this optimism isn’t without a degree of caution – as they would with their own personal devices, owners also want to make sure their pets are protected in a digital world.

Despite this, the study reveals a desire amongst pet owners for continued innovation. Over three fifths (62%) of respondents think pet-friendly functionality is just as important as child-friendly, while nearly half (49%) want to see more pet-friendly technologies developed in the future.

Dr Ilyena Hirskyj-Douglas, Lecturer in Animal-Computer Interaction at The University of Glasgow, who collaborated on the 2022 Pet Living study, comments: “As our homes become smarter and better connected, the way we take care of our pets will continue to be revolutionised by new smart technologies that are built not only around our own everyday lives and routines, but also around the lives of the pets we share our homes with.

As younger generations increasingly adopt smart devices, and as the number of people who own pets also increases, smart technology designed with pets in mind is the natural next step.”

London, UK – 12 December 2022 – New research by Samsung UK & Ireland reveals Arab workers are over four times more likely, and Black workers are three

London, UK – 12 December 2022 – New research by Samsung UK & Ireland reveals Arab workers are over four times more likely, and Black workers are three times more likely to lie to their family and friends about what they do for a living due to family expectations.

Exacerbated by wider cultural pressures, workers are also adjusting the way they show up to work, with 28% changing what they eat and 32% of ethnic minorities adjusting their accent to fit in.

The survey of 1,568 UK workers (1,000 White, 568 from ethnic minority groups) not only looked at how ethnicity bias is showing up in the workplace, but it also examined the cultural barriers and considerations present when making early career decisions.

One of the starkest findings is that cultural pressures weigh twice as heavy for talent from historically underrepresented ethnic communities compared to their White peers (70% vs 31%) when deciding which career to pursue. However, workers in general agree that close family members such as their mum (50%) and dad (51%) put the most pressure on them to make certain decisions about career direction.

Cultural barriers ethnic minority groups face when choosing a career

The research also found that workers from the Black community feel the weight of financial burden far more than other workers, with almost half (49%) citing ‘providing financially for their family’, as a key expectation.

The emotional toll of these pressures is palpable. Respondents from ethnic minorities say they feel controlled (40%), restricted in their choices (35%), lacking in confidence (37%), and unfulfilled (27%) when told what job or career path they should, or should not, pursue.

When looking at the most acceptable career paths, becoming a doctor, lawyer or accountant were professional routes deemed most prestigious; felt particularly strongly by those from Asian origins.

Table: Careers deemed most acceptable by family by ethnicity

Working in the services industry (17%) and creative industries (13%) came out on top as some of the most desirable jobs if there were no financial, cultural or family expectations. Interestingly, the research also found that for Asian (11%) and Black employees (8%), accounting and finance was still the industry they’d most like to go into, even if money was no object.

“If we are to break down the barriers to open doors to careers outside of medicine, finance and law, and see more professions as viable and celebrated career options, there must be acknowledgment from industries to help shift perceptions such as those from ethnic minorities – and their families” said Dave Thompson, Head of Training at Samsung UK & Ireland, and founder of the Black Professionals @ Samsung Employee Resource Group (ERG). “If we want everyone to bring their authentic selves to work and thrive in their jobs, we must take steps to not only understand, but also challenge the current state of play. Workplaces can help by building out sustainable careers across their business, subsidiaries and strategic partners to ensure the best practices are in place to drive equity, diversity and belonging at the centre of everything they do. At Samsung, we know there’s still work to be done to make all workers feel they can be heard and valued, but we’re committed to continuing our journey”, continued Dave Thompson.

Bias at work: 4 in 5 Black and Arab employees say they must ‘work harder’ than their White colleagues

According to the research, Black and Arab employees reportedly feel the most marginalised, with 59% and 61% respectively, saying they have been treated differently due to their cultural background.

Shockingly, half (50%) of ethnic minorities have been a victim of unconscious racism at work, with this felt by 45% of Asian workers, over half (53%) of Black employees and rising to 60% when we look at Arab workers. Over a third (36) of ethnic minority workers have said they have also experienced blatant racism (rising to 46% for Arab workers and 44% for Black workers), with 35% of those from ethnic minority backgrounds told they should ‘smile more’.

Founder of Dope Black Dads and ED&I agency BELOVD Marvyn Harrison, said “We have a generational issue of workers in ethnic communities being pressured into high paying and traditional job roles as a way of navigating systemic inequality. From my own experience, Black families specifically have stopped believing their children will have equality without creating a perceived value in their career. This prevents a diversification of the types of roles people commit to at the highest level, and an important sense of belonging once they get there. The impact of this mental load means Black employees are not showing up as their full self and experiencing imposter syndrome which prevents them from excelling and progressing at the rate their talent deserves. We need a generational shift of all races and ethnicities pursuing roles which suit their passions and consider their neurodiversity, mental health, class, gender, religion and sexuality, as well as being fully accepted for who they are.”

The research found a staggering number of workers feel they must ‘work harder’ compared to their White British colleagues in the same role: 82% of Arab workers, 80% Black workers, and 66% of Asian workers. In fact, ethnic minority employees reported doing this by working more efficiently (46%), feeling the expectation to produce a higher standard of work (38%), and having an in-built desire to do the best job they can (33%). Over half of Asian workers (51%) reported doing this by working more efficiently. 43% of Black workers carry the expectation to produce a higher standard of work, and 41% of Arab workers take on work outside of their job role – demonstrating just some of the ways that ethnic minorities are going the extra yard at work in order to be heard and valued.

Experiences of ethnic minorities in the workplace, include:

Having their name repeatedly misspelt or mispronounced (41%)

Assuming they will find things offensive (33%)

Being given jobs no one else wants to do (31%)

Being left out of social activities (32%)

Being overlooked for pay rises or promotions (33%)

People feeling awkward asking about their culture (30%)

Another key way behaviour has changed for ethnic minority workers is that they have had to adapt their personality almost four times more than their White peers, to fit in at work (58% vs 15%). 66% of Black workers felt this. Overall, this is because UK workers:

Felt like they needed to (39%)

Didn’t want to stand out (37%)

Wanted to be perceived to be like everyone else (41%)

Want to keep their culture separate from work (26%)

Want to be more relatable (23%)

Felt they needed to, to progress in their career (20%)

What organisations should be doing to be more inclusive

With just over one fifth (22%) of workers strongly agreeing that their place of work is culturally diverse and committed to carving out a positive path forward, employees said companies need to do more to attract talent from historically underrepresented ethnic communities, including the below actions:

Hosting cultural awareness training (30%)

Hosting inclusion training (29%)

Working with racially diverse charities (28%)

Introducing a mandatory requirement to interview people for senior positions (24%)

Running mentoring programmes (22%)

Introducing entry-level requirements for hiring ethnically diverse talent (21%)

“These research findings align with what we’ve known to be the experiences of many of those from historically underrepresented ethnic communities at work – and that is one of challenge, discrimination and being repeatedly misunderstood. If organisations truly want to benefit from ethnic diversity, a focus on true inclusion is vital. This means challenging entrenched stereotypes and focusing daily on equity in processes and interactions. Individuals from historically underrepresented ethnic communities must be provided with access to opportunities, the most relevant development support, mentorship and the space to be their true selves. In addition, managers and teams need to learn how to have open, honest, direct and authentic conversations where topics like culture, background and personal experiences can be shared to develop greater trust ” said Edleen John, Board member at the Tech Talent Charter, a government-supported, industry-led membership group that brings together 700+ Signatory organisations and equips them with the networks and resources to drive their diversity and inclusion efforts.

LONDON, UK – 2nd December 2022 – With Christmas party season just around the corner, research reveals the nation’s biggest fails when it comes to washing their party clothes, from accidentally washing items on a higher temperature and shrinking them (48%), to mixing and spoiling colours (48%).

The study by Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. found that 44% of people aged 25-34 are planning on going to a Christmas party this year, but this age group are not confident in getting stains out of their festive outfits by hand washing the garment (31%) or taking it to the dry cleaners (20%). Top food and drink UK adults avoid at Christmas parties to avoid stains include festive favourites, such as red wine (28%), gravy (16%) and cranberry sauce (15%). Other foods on the list also include beetroot (30%), berries (15%) and coffee (12%).

One in three (33%) UK adults aged 25-34 have a spare party outfit, such as a little black dress, on standby which they pull out and pop on for last-minute get togethers. Fabrics that the nation would be worried about knowing how to clean or get stains out of include silk (32%), suede (32%) and velvet (25%), followed by satin (23%) and wool (20%). And the most likely reasons for having to clean a party outfit include a spilled drink (17%), food (11%) and make-up (8%) stains.

To overcome these issues, Samsung Electronics Ltd. has partnered with leading fashion expert, Olivia Miller, to share the best ways to avoid any party outfit mishaps.

Olivia Millers ‘top tips’ on party outfits and how best to launder your clothes to get them party-ready:

To prevent make-up transfer, spray hairspray on any clothing that touches close to your face, for example the collar, wait 15-20 minutes before putting the clothing item on and make-up will no longer stick or transfer!

The top three foods or drinks that UK adults would avoid on a night out if they were going to a party, in fear that it would stain their outfit are: Beetroot, Red Wine and Tomato Ketchup. Luckily stains from all of these can be removed (even if they are stubborn), the key is to treat a wine stain immediately if possible and do not dry or add heat to the garment until the stain is completely removed, or else the stains will shrink into the fibres, making it difficult for stain removers to dilute and work their magic! What’s more, a steam function on a washing machine helps to kill any bacteria and germs left behind, whilst many washing machines are now equipped with the clever ability to work out how much detergent is needed depending on how dirty your clothes are which is ideal in this scenario.

Be sure to always check the label for washing instructions and use the correct setting on your washing machine. I opt for the delicate garments setting, always wash the item inside out and use a mesh laundry bag for protection. A super speedy wash is always an option for those items that simply need a quick refresh and ensure you wash on a cold setting to avoid any shrinking of clothes, whilst also saving energy.

To prevent fake tan transfer on clothes, use talcum powder around areas like the armpits, backs of knees, under the bra or any tight pieces of clothing. If you do stain clothes with fake tan, act fast and soak with a stain removal treatment (overnight if possible) and then launder as normal in your washing machine on the most appropriate setting.

Tanya Weller, Marketing Director of Home Appliances, Samsung Electronics (UK & Ireland) Ltd., said: “Samsung’s new 11kg Washing Machines are the perfect product for those looking to upgrade their current machine. This new range of large-capacity Washing Machines benefit from being in the most efficient A-rated energy class.

LONDON, UK – December 1, 2022 – Samsung today announced the results of a study which revealed that the UK might be nearing a tipping point on attitudes towards low carbon heating solutions such as heat pumps. 78% of heating industry professionals said demand for heat pumps had increased in the last five years, with seven out of ten professionals now seeing heat pumps as a more viable solution versus a few years ago.

Partly driven by events on the world stage, nearly four in five (79%) heating industry professionals say global issues were driving demand for technologies like heat pumps. This attitudinal shift is driving an even greater need for training, education and awareness about the ways heat pumps can help the UK deliver on its ambition to decarbonise homes and cut emissions by 2035.[1]

Having consulted 200 heating industry professionals, from gas engineers to plumbers, in the UK on their changing attitudes to heat pumps in the last two years, Samsung’s research also revealed that despite this buoyancy in demand for heat pump installation, with 66% citing energy efficiency as the most important consideration for their customers when installing a heating system, challenges still remain. Only 23% of current heating industry professionals are already fully trained to be an air source heat pump installer and nearly three in five (57%) are not considering training at all.

61% of those polled attributed the skills gap in low carbon and energy efficient technology to a lack of understanding about the future potential for heat pumps. 59% said they are waiting for more accessible training and education to support the workforce, indicating that despite demand increasing, there are still difficulties turning this demand into reality.

Scott Young training manager, Samsung Climate Solutions commented: “Our research clearly shows that there are real concerns in the heating industry about the lack of suitable training options available in low carbon tech. That’s why at Samsung, we have recently overhauled our training curriculum to encourage installers to upskill. Through webinars, e-learning modules and offering training for formal industry qualifications we are committed to providing a suite of learning options which are flexible and fit around the busy schedules of installers.”

Beyond boosting skills in low carbon and energy efficient technologies, the study also revealed that the industry is craving wider support from government on decarbonising homes to help the UK reach its net zero ambition. Around three quarters of respondents (76%) think that the government could be doing more in terms of legislation, grants and awareness to support the switch to air source heat pumps. This is especially important as price point was cited as the most important consideration for the customer by 78% of respondents.

In addition to further government support, 77% agreed that there should be more support from the industry and manufacturers to help install more heat pumps. 65% of respondents say making changes to radiators or household heat emitters is the number one consumer barrier to heat pump adoption while 62% also highlight concerns about the reliability of the technology at low outdoor temperatures, there is a clear need for manufacturers to step up consumer education about the range of solutions on offer and the efficacy of their products when stress tested.

The Samsung EHS Mono HT Quiet heat pump can help ease installers and consumers into this low carbon heating transition by achieving leaving water temperature of 70 degrees[2] meaning fewer radiator changes are needed. And because the HT Quiet provides 100% heating performance[3] at temperatures down to minus 25 degrees,[4] it gives consumers total peace of mind in the technology, even at sub-zero temperatures.

Despite this progress in heat pump technology giving heating industry professionals broader options when it comes to retrofit installs or within new build developments, uncertainty remains as 58% are unclear about the ‘roadmap for change’ towards low carbon heating, with training remaining a sticking point.

Joseph Raftery, Heating Product Manager at Samsung Climate Solutions, has been working within the heating industry since 1992 specifically focusing on the development and installation of heat pumps. He commented: “The government Future Homes Standard of 2025 is drawing ever closer, ruling out fossil fuel heating in all new build developments. This is a major milestone for our housing sector, reflected in the fact that 78% of heating industry professionals say demand for heat pumps had increased in the last 5 years. There’s never been a better time for installers to work with architects and developers to incorporate low carbon heating solutions into property designs.”

At this critical junction in the evolution of greener heating, this research has taken the pulse of the professionals in the heating industry who will be on the frontline of changing the way we heat our homes. Samsung is dedicated to contributing to the united effort in realising a more sustainable future.
