Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the launch of its Slim^[1] Combo and Washer models in the UK. The new product range introduces innovative solutions designed to address modern consumer needs for energy efficiency, space saving and smart connectivity.

SpaceMax and AI Ecobubble: Enhancing Space and Energy Efficiency

Samsung designed the new Slim Combo and Washer models to offer more features in less space through its core technologies, SpaceMax and AI Ecobubble.

SpaceMax creates more internal space by accommodating a larger drum in a depth of 480mm, taking 12.7% less space in depth^[2] compared to Samsung’s standard models^[3] while still offering a large 9kg load capacity. The space-saving design means the appliances can fit and be installed into a variety of spaces, like under a kitchen counter or in the bathroom, depending on users’ needs.

Additionally, AI Ecobubble^[4] ensures thorough cleaning while being energy efficient. By utilizing a circulation pump and advanced software algorithms together with Ecobubble, it even exceeds the minimum energy efficiency requirements for the A Grade rating by up to 10%^[5] in the washing cycle.

Moreover, it turns detergent into bubbles that quickly penetrate fabric and loosen dirt and stains, enhancing soil removal by up to 24%^[6]. Plus, it intelligently adapts the bubble levels based on fabric type, providing optimal cleaning while safeguarding the colour and texture of clothes, resulting in up to 45.5% better fabric care^[7].

SmartThings: Personalised Experiences^[8]

Users can enjoy added benefits from AI Energy Mode by connecting the new Slim Combo and Washer models to SmartThings^[9]. Not only can they monitor power consumption and estimate electricity usage easily, but they also proactively reduce energy usage by up to 70%^[10] on select wash settings^[11]. By automatically optimising washing cycles at lower temperatures, AI Energy Mode can help save energy usage without compromising washing performance.

Another value-added feature is Clothing Care^[12] on SmartThings, which personalises the laundry experience. Clothing Care analyses usage patterns^[13] and factors like weather and seasonality so that it can provide tailored recommendations through AI algorithm. The feature creates integrated and customised clothing care cycles^[14], seamlessly guiding users from washing to drying to suit their lifestyle^[15].

AI Wash: Heightened Convenience

AI Wash^[16] delivers an intuitive and seamless laundry experience by intelligently sensing the weight and softness of the fabric, monitoring soiling levels and adjusting water usage for proper results. Complementing this, the Auto Dispense feature^[17] automatically adds the precise amount of detergent needed for each cycle.

To enhance convenience, Samsung has added more flexibility to their Auto Dispense feature. Users can place detergent in one section of the detergent box and add their preferred detergents in the other side, referred to as flex auto dispenser. Once filled, they can choose the type of detergent they placed in the flex auto dispenser, and then the machine will select the appropriate detergent based on the chosen washing cycle, ensuring excellent results for specialised programmes like Baby Care. Previously, only two types of detergents could be set up in the flex auto dispenser. In the new Slim Combo and Washer lineup, however, users can select from among four options to set up according to their diverse preferences and needs─whether using general detergent, fabric softener, specialty detergent or baby detergent.

LONDON, United Kingdom – April 3 2024 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced the launch of its new energy-efficient 75cm Wide Combi Fridge Freezer^[1] in Europe. The refrigerator was unveiled at ‘Welcome to BESPOKE AI’, a global launch event held at les Pavillon des Étangs in Paris on April 3. It achieves a high energy rating as a product itself, while its Wi-Fi capabilities allow for even further energy savings with SmartThings Energy^[2].

“In response to the reality that energy efficiency is more important to consumers than ever, Samsung is launching a new model for the modern era,” said Moohyung Lee, EVP and Head of the Customer Experience Team of Digital Appliances (DA) Business at Samsung Electronics. “Through our considerable R&D efforts, we’ve been able to provide energy-saving opportunities in addition to the Samsung quality and features that global consumers appreciate. We’re confident that users would take advantages of Samsung’s new refrigerator in their day-to-day lives.”

Notably, the refrigerator has received an energy “A” rating according to EU energy standards, which is for the first time in Samsung’s 75cm Wide Combi Fridge Freezer type. Samsung implements its unique solutions to decrease energy consumption by 55.9% compared to the conventional model^[3]. Especially the new AI Inverter Compressor^[4] is a key part to achieve an A grade according to EU energy standards.

The new high-efficient AI Inverter Compressor has been redesigned to increase the radius of the rotating parts which enables its inertia to be higher than the conventional compressor^[5] by 4.1 times. It means that the compressor can keep the power longer, so it uses less energy while keeping the temperature in the fridge moderate. The compressor also contributes to lowering the noise level by up to 5 times quieter than the conventional model^[6] thanks to the new control technology.

Additionally, the 75cm Wide Combi Fridge Freezer supports the energy saving mode in SmartThings Energy^[7] which can reduce energy use by up to 15%^[8]. The SmartThings AI Energy Mode also allows users to easily check daily, weekly and monthly power consumption, and it even estimates monthly electric bills. If usage exceeds the established estimate, the mode can also proactively save energy^[9]. Furthermore, it can optimize the compressor speed and defrost cycle frequency, based on usage and surroundings, ensuring that users can enjoy fresher food items for longer.

Samsung also made the model to be competitive both in capacity and design as well. To enhance the capacity benefits of having a refrigerator with a wider width than common type, Samsung applies SpaceMax technology which has been the heritage of Samsung refrigerator. The fridge makes use of thin walls and efficient insulation to increase the storage volume while maintaining consistent temperatures. The extra storage space does not impact the exterior of the refrigerator, either, as the relatively compact size creates more room in users’ homes.

Apart from its performance and storage capabilities, the refrigerator brings a sleek design that makes it a great aesthetic fit for modern homes. It boasts a fully flat door and a recessed handle that grants the refrigerator a harmonious aesthetic. The Gentle Lighting controls brightness and prevents glare as well.

Availability

The energy-efficient 75cm Wide Combi Fridge Freezer will be available in three capacity variants (538L, 508L and 458L) depending on the region, launching in Europe, CIS, the Middle East, Latin America, Southeast Asia, Canada and Africa.

The refrigerator is expected to be available from April in Europe and other regions sequentially.
