LONDON, United Kingdom – August 20, 2024 – Samsung Electronics today announced that an expanded number of products in its Digital Appliances Business have been verified to level ‘Diamond’ under UL Solutions’ Marketing Claim Verification IoT Security Rating Program. Following the Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+^[1] ― which was the first product in the home appliances industry to earn the ‘Diamond’ level from UL Solutions ― and Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI,^[2] two products ranging in the UK were verified to the same level recently. The Bespoke AI Laundry Combo^[3] and the Air to Water Heat Pump^[4] acquired the Verification in June. In the UK, Samsung now possesses four ‘Diamond’ level verifications by UL Solutions for its home appliances.

UL Solutions’ IoT Security Rating Program

UL Solutions is a leading global safety science company that evaluates hundreds of marketing claims each year. One of their services, the UL Solutions’ IoT Security Rating Program verifies the security capabilities of smart home products.

UL Solutions differentiates security capability performance using five levels – Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. Each level requires rigorous testing, and of them, the highest ‘Diamond’ level is only given after products pass tests evaluating the ability to detect malicious software modulation, prevent illegal access attempts, and anonymise user data. Especially, the products that achieve this highest ‘Diamond’ level differentiate themselves from level ‘Platinum’ products in their ability to detect unknown potential vulnerabilities, and operate programs for early detection of security vulnerabilities as well.

Products Newly Verified to Level ‘Diamond’

These additional certifications were obtained for the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo and the Air to Water Heat Pump. They are distinctive by being able to be linked with other devices using SmartThings connectivity,^[5] and providing various AI or smart functions.

The Bespoke AI Laundry Combo is an All-in-one washer and dryer that frees users from the hassle of transferring laundry after washing to the dryer. Featuring a 7-inch LCD display,^[6] users can get recommended cycles^[7] based on their preferences, as well as periodic and seasonal needs.^[8] It also shows all connected appliances^[9] within the home, allowing users to monitor and control them seamlessly.

The Air to Water Heat Pump has a slim fit design that goes harmoniously with the home environment. Its 7-inch LCD display^[10] supports various languages and help users monitor solar PV energy usage. Users can control their connected appliances through this display.

Thanks to Samsung Knox, which is applied to all Samsung home appliances, the data and the connection between devices can be thoroughly protected. Customers can utilise products’ AI features with confidence, having been assured of their strong security performance.

Meanwhile, visitors at IFA 2024 ― being held in Berlin from September 6 to 10 ― will be able to see Samsung’s home appliances that are proven for their security excellence. At the booth, Samsung will showcase the newly certified Air to Water Heat Pump as well as the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo.

The 2022 Samsung Lifestyle TVs won the ‘Eye Care’ Certification from Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE) in Germany, one of Europe’s largest technical-scientific associations with more than 36,000 members. The certification applies to Samsung’s 2022 Lifestyle TV models including The Frame, The Serif and The Sero. The screens are evaluated on various categories, including ‘Safety’, ‘Gentle to the eyes’, flicker level, uniformity, and colour fidelity.

The new Lifestyle TVs were assessed for safety from blue light emission and melatonin inhibition levels based on a light hazard classification method set by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Samsung’s 2022 Lifestyle TVs satisfy the IEC’s standards for screen flickering, which can cause eye fatigue or headache for viewers. They were also recognised for excellence in colour fidelity and picture quality uniformity, both elements of which contribute to eye comfort level while watching TV.

Samsung’s 2022 Lifestyle TVs[1] were also verified as ‘Glare-Free’ by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a leading independent safety science company. UL’s verification validates the ‘Glare-Free’ claim by assessing the products against Unified Glare Rating (UGR) testing standard set by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE). Samsung’s new Lifestyle TV models use a new Matte Display with anti-glare, anti-reflection and anti-fingerprint properties to deliver the optimal brightness and provide the best picture quality without glare.

• Reflected Glare, which determines whether the objects on a TV screen are visible even when external light is reflected on the surface
• Discomfort Glare, which determines whether a TV screen is too bright
• Disability Glare, which determines whether a TV screen is overly bright when watching TV in a dark room

These glare assessments were calculated based on test results of watching TV in both 300 lux, which is equivalent to a brightly lit work area, and in 70 lux, which is usually the value for a dimly lit work area.

Additionally, Samsung’s all new 2022 QLED models received the world’s first ‘Pantone Validated’ certification from Pantone, the world-famous brand in the global colour industry and creator of the Pantone Matching System (PMS).

These models receiving this recognition from Pantone include all 20 newly released models – 15 QLED TVs in both 4K and 8K and five monitors. Samsung’s 2022 QLED TV line-up was recognised for its accurate expression of 2,030 Pantone colours and newly added 110 skin tone shades.

LONDON, UK – June 18th, 2021 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced that all models^[1] of The Terrace TV, the premium product line designed for outdoor lifestyles, have become the first in the TV industry to be verified for outdoor visibility performance.

This verification comes from U.S.-based Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a global independent safety science organisation with over a century of experience in driving safety solution innovation.

In normal outdoor settings, consumers must find means to block sunlight to gain appropriate visibility, which has been a major issue across relevant product categories. To receive this verification, a product must undergo several rounds of rigorous testing, in which peak brightness of over 3,000 ~ 4,000 nits^[2], a higher contrast ratio of over 1,000:1, and color volume greater than 80 percent should be altogether achieved under over 10,000 LUX condition. The Terrace TV has displayed outstanding performance in these three key areas so viewers can enjoy clear, vivid images even in bright outdoors.

It also features Samsung’s premium QLED display, anti-reflection technology which reduces light reflection from its surface, as well as AI picture quality optimisation technology for automatic brightness adjustment.

In addition, Samsung’s OH55A, an outdoor signage product which uses the same outdoor visibility technologies as The Terrace, also received visibility verification.

Samsung also recognises the importance of weather resistance against rain and dust for outdoor TV set models. The company obtained IP55 water and dust resistance standard certification from International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which together with the latest UL verification will play a pivotal role in fortifying Samsung’s efforts to provide an optimal viewing experience in various outdoor conditions.
