Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today introduced Galaxy Watch8 and Galaxy Watch8 Classic[1], establishing an iconic design identity across the entire Galaxy Watch lineup.

Building upon the foundation of the Galaxy Watch Ultra’s cushion design, this series boasts the thinnest, most comfortable Galaxy Watch ever[2] for continuous health tracking. The Galaxy Watch8 series suits diverse lifestyles and provides advanced capabilities, setting a new standard for style and personalised health experiences.

“The next frontier for wearable technology is preventative health. We don’t want to just monitor peoples’ wellbeing – we want to give them personal, reliable and meaningful insights,” said Annika Bizon, Mobile Experience VP of Product and Marketing, Samsung UK & Ireland. “The Galaxy Watch8 series sets a new standard by combining comfort, form and function with advanced sensor technology that is powered by AI, helping everyone build longer-term habits where every decision we make will be guided by our health.”

Redesigned Inside and Out for Ultimate Wellness

By reimagining both form and function, the Galaxy Watch8 series delivers unmatched comfort alongside industry-leading performance, making it the ultimate companion for everyday wellness. The distinctive cushion design, which debuted with Galaxy Watch Ultra, now defines the entire Galaxy Watch lineup.

To achieve the thinnest design yet, the internal structure of Galaxy Watch8 was completely reengineered and its component mounting capability has been improved by 30%, resulting in an 11% thinner design. Combined with the Dynamic Lug system, this design moves naturally with the wrist, providing greater comfort and improved stability[2] for a better fit and enhanced health-tracking accuracy.

Galaxy Watch8’s sleek profile is complemented by its exceptional performance. Even when you are outdoors under bright sunlight, the display is 50% brighter[2] with a peak brightness of 3,000nits for easy visibility, and the enhanced battery[2] ensures the watch can keep up with an active lifestyle.

Moreover, the dual-frequency GPS provides more detailed and precise location results[2] while our most powerful 3nm processor delivers faster performance and greater power efficiency. With the groundbreaking BioActive Sensor that enables deeper and more accurate health insights, the Galaxy Watch8 series helps provide a holistic view of your health.

Motivation for Lasting Health Changes

Sleep is a window into your overall health and each restful night allows your body and mind to recover immediately the very next day. That’s why Samsung is continuously advancing the sleep experience, offering tailored sleep coaching, helping to create an optimal sleep environment, and even detecting moderate to severe signs of sleep apnoea[3]. On top of that, the Galaxy Watch8 series comes with new unique health features on the Samsung Health app[4] that help you build healthier habits through instant, motivational insights – from sleep to nutrition and workout.

Bedtime Guidance[5] can measure your circadian rhythm to suggest the optimal time to go to bed so you wake up refreshed the next morning. Vascular Load[6]helps monitor the stress levels on your vascular system during sleep. Providing insights on various lifestyle factors including sleep, stress and activity, it helps you adopt a more comprehensive approach to managing your health.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch8 series introduces Antioxidant Index[7]for the first time in a smartwatch, enabling you to measure carotenoid levels in just five seconds and make informed lifestyle choices for healthy aging.

Whether you’re a novice or experienced runner, the Galaxy Watch8 series delivers personalised fitness insights to keep you motivated when you need it most. Running Coach[8] calculates your fitness level from 1 to 10 and develops a tailored training plan complete with real-time guidance and motivational insights. With the updated Together feature, which now supports running, you can gamify your fitness journey by challenging friends and family.

If high level of stress persists, High Stress Alert will immediately signal so that you can take a break to help manage your stress levels in real-time.

Plus, the AI-powered Energy Score[10]gives you a snapshot of your energy level, combining physical and mental energy metrics so you can have a healthier day, every day.

Easier Watch Interaction with Wear OS and Gemini

Developed in close collaboration with Google, the Galaxy Watch8 series is the first smartwatch equipped with Wear OS 6 as well as Gemini[11], Google’s AI assistant, as pre-loaded. Go hands-free using natural voice commands to get things done on the go with your Galaxy Watch apps like Samsung Health, Calendar, Reminder, and Clock. For example, you can ask Gemini to find a nearby cafe and text a friend to meet you there, all in one go. Or, if you’re ready to start your workout and you have a goal in mind, simply say, “Start a 30-minute run.” The watch seamlessly initiates the workout in Samsung Health.

In addition, thanks to the new One UI 8 Watch, the user interface is optimised for the size and shape of the watch face.

LONDON, U.K. – May 13, 2025 – Your Galaxy wearables are about to get even smarter in the coming months. Google Gemini is set to debut on Samsung Galaxy Watches, making its first integration into the Galaxy wearable lineup. Moreover, activating Gemini will be smoother than ever when paired with the Galaxy Buds3 series. This update will extend AI functionalities across the entire Galaxy ecosystem, creating a more cohesive and intelligent user experience.

Galaxy Watch: Get More Done, Hands-Free

With Gemini on your Galaxy Watch, you can get hands-free assistance using natural voice commands to stay productive on the move. When running on the treadmill at the gym, simply ask Gemini to “Remember I’m using locker 43 today” so you can focus on your workout without a second thought. Or when you receive an important email while your hands are tied up carrying groceries, just ask Gemini to “Summarise my last email” for a quick overview. Gemini handles these requests across your apps, letting you quickly glance at the response and get right back to what you’re doing.

Galaxy Buds: Seamless Device Interaction

When used with Galaxy Buds, the Gemini experience becomes even more seamless. By using voice or pinch and hold controls, you can activate Gemini on your Galaxy Buds and smoothly interact with your Galaxy smartphone. So when you are lacing up your running shoes before a jog, just ask Gemini “What’s the weather for my run today?” without having to reach for your phone. With Gemini, a more intelligent Galaxy experience is at your fingertips.

Today, more than ever, people are defining their own wellness goals. From looking to stay fit or gaining more muscle mass, achieving better sleep, or caring for personal or family physical and mental health issues, everyone’s goals for better health look different. But one thing is common, the daily management and path towards these goals can be complicated and challenging, and most importantly, it is defined by you.

That’s why at Samsung, we’re working to empower more people to manage their health – and those they care for – their way, with a comprehensive, yet simplified approach to everyday wellness. Our vision is to improve the health of billions through connected care centered around the home by connecting devices, services and people – like only Samsung can.

Simplifying Wellness by Uniting Scattered Health Data

One of the biggest challenges the healthcare industry is facing today is fragmented data and how to bring it all together. Samsung is uniquely positioned to undertake this with one of the largest, most diverse connected device ecosystems. Now with Samsung Health, we’re connecting different devices and partner solutions within one cohesive platform, making it simpler to track health conditions on a Galaxy wearable.

By collecting data through advanced sensor technology, you’ll receive a deeper, more holistic understanding of your health with improved insights and integrated third party health data. And as always, your personal data on the Galaxy devices remains secure thanks to the Samsung Knox security platform.

Turning Data into Meaningful Insights with the Transformative Power of AI

Like any good data model, how you leverage the information is key. In this new mobile era of AI, Samsung is focused on remaining at the forefront of maximising information. With the intelligence of AI, the most transformative technology of the century, users will receive more personalised insights and tailored health experiences through Samsung Health’s extensive global dataset from 64M monthly active users. And while every user’s wellness journey is unique, we believe they all start in the same way – by gaining a deeper understanding of their health through more comprehensive insights, spanning the longest time possible.

This is why we’ve continued to build a portfolio of tools that help track their health conveniently, continuously and accurately. This approach comes to life in our wearables portfolio with upcoming features like My Vitality Score[1] and Booster Card[2], combining more data with new intelligent analysis to deliver even more personalised and actionable guidance day and night.

Bringing it all to Life Starting with a Good Night’s Sleep

With more data and greater intelligence, users will receive even more insights for preventative wellness end-to-end solutions, starting with sleep. We’ve developed a variety of features that offer users a deeper understanding of their sleep quality and other aspects of their health during sleep. For example, the sleep apnea feature, which recently received De Novo clearance from US FDA, will detect signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea – and often undiagnosed and untreated – chronic medical condition, so they can address it with their healthcare provider.

This is just the beginning. We’re working with partners to connect these capabilities to real world solutions and services that expand access to healthcare in the home. For instance, you can create a more optimal sleep environment with a smart mattress that can fine-tune the ideal sleep temperatures for rest.

The Future of Wellness is at Your Fingers

Samsung recognises that gaining a deep understanding of one’s personal health can result in significant long-term wellness benefits for our users. As we look to deliver on our vision of providing users with a comprehensive yet simplified approach to everyday wellness, we realise choice is a big factor. Obtaining accurate, detailed and advanced information on personal health conditions is the foundation of helping better track and action change.

Mobile devices will become the primary access point for AI, and through Samsung Galaxy – with our broad and comprehensive product portfolio, heritage of innovation, and philosophy of open collaboration – we’re well positioned to accelerate its global expansion. That’s why we’re thrilled to be introducing Samsung Galaxy Ring later this year – bringing Samsung’s accumulated innovations to the smallest form for comfortable 24/7 wear. As a new addition to our wearables portfolio, Galaxy Ring will offer users an all-new way to simplify everyday wellness, empowering them with greater insights and more ways to understand themselves day and night. With Galaxy Ring, users can embrace an unrivalled experience during every step of their wellness journey, all while being delivered in lockstep with Samsung’s broader vision for a more connected, integrated and seamless digital wellness platform.

Samsung will continue to enrich and expand Galaxy AI experiences across our product categories and collaborations to bring forward mobile experiences that defy imagination. The launch of Galaxy Ring is just one of Samsung’s many initiatives that exemplifies this and delivers on our vision of improving the health and wellness of billions, starting at home, with you. Through the power of intelligence, partnerships and advanced technology, we’re helping more people better understand themselves and make the small changes that have a big impact, every day. With this, the power of Galaxy AI, and many more exciting health and wellness solutions and updates on the horizon, we can’t wait for you to see what we have in store.

[1] My Vitality Score will be made available on Samsung Health within 2024. Availability may vary by market, carrier, or wearable device. Features are intended for general wellness and fitness purposes only. The measurements are for your personal reference only.

London, UK – May 4, 2023 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today unveiled One UI 5 Watch[1], to be available for Galaxy Watch devices later this year. The new software is designed to bring an even more personalised and intuitive health experience and includes enhancements that support better sleep — an often neglected yet essential part of overall wellness — as well as various fitness and safety features.

“People are increasingly realising the important role that technology can play in helping to improve their daily health and wellbeing routines. Sleep is a vital, yet often underrated component of these routines, so our latest innovations aim to further help people improve the quality of their rest ,” said James Kitto, Vice President, Head of MX Division at Samsung.

“Our new One UI 5 Watch update uses the latest software to help people monitor their sleep patterns in the most efficient way so they can start their day feeling refreshed and energized.”

Better Sleep: Essential to Better Health

Samsung has focused its efforts on three key elements for better sleep: understanding personal sleep patterns, building healthy habits, and establishing a sleep-friendly environment. One UI 5 Watch software delivers on these elements with an even more complete sleep experience.

The new Sleep Insights UI prominently displays the user’s sleep score to provide a clearer snapshot of the prior night’s rest, followed by related metrics like sleep phases, snoring hours and blood oxygen levels. In addition, Sleep Coaching — tailored around eight different sleep types[2] — also becomes fully accessible directly on Galaxy Watch as well as a paired phone, making for a more convenient and motivational way for users to track their habits anytime, anywhere.

Creating a comfortable environment can make all the difference in sleep quality, and even small distractions can have outsized impacts. That’s why Samsung has made it easier to connect Galaxy Watch to a wide range of devices. Once the user’s Galaxy Watch detects that they have fallen asleep, SmartThings lets the user switch off their connected devices to create a more conducive environment for rest. Sleep Mode swiftly mutes notifications and dims the user’s phone and watch screens, and One UI 5 Watch builds on this feature by now utilising an infrared sensor rather than a green LED light to further minimise distractions.

A Smarter Fitness Partner

Personalised Heart Rate Zone has been added to Galaxy Watch’s various tailored running tools — including real-time running analysis and a customised interval training program. This new feature analyses individual physical capabilities[3] and sets five optimal workout intensity levels (warm-up, fat burn, cardio, hard-training and max. effort). This enables users to set their own goals based on their ability, from burning fat to high-impact cardio.

Outdoor activity enthusiasts with Galaxy Watch5 Pro can look forward to additional benefits, starting with an expanded Route Workout—which now supports running and walking alongside previously available hiking and cycling route options. Galaxy Watch5 Pro users can also search and access the GPX File Database directly via Samsung Health app, and receive recommendations on new routes based on inputs like location, time, rating or popularity[4].

Safety First, Always On

Safety is a must when it comes to health and wellness, and One UI 5 Watch also offers improved tools for greater peace of mind. Updates to the SOS feature enable direct communication to an emergency service number to relay information on the wearer’s location[5], and also allow immediate access to the wearer’s Medical Information once an SOS is activated. In addition, Fall Detection is now activated by default for users of advanced ages[6] to help lower the risk of emergencies.

LONDON, UK – 12 January, 2023 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced new software updates to Galaxy Buds2 Pro and Galaxy Watch series, elevating content capturing for Galaxy users everywhere. Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones have long been offering the best photography and videography experiences, letting users create, capture, and share their best moments. Now, when paired with the latest wearable devices, the already-powerful Galaxy camera is further strengthened with 360 Audio Recording, the unique feature that brings immersive sound to video content, along with an upgrade to the Camera Controller that makes zooming in and out remotely easier. These software updates reflect Samsung’s continuous commitment to providing the most up-to-date experiences to existing devices.

360 Audio Recording: Capture the World as You Hear it

The new 360 Audio Recording feature[1] empowers users to capture sound on video, precisely as they hear it. Pairing Galaxy Buds2 Pro with a Galaxy smartphone, everyone can film like a pro and capture high-quality, realistic audio for video without the need for bulky professional equipment, anytime, anywhere. The feature picks up 360-degree sound using a microphone in each earbud, placing viewers at the centre of a roaring festival crowd or beside a bubbling brook in the middle of a forest. Users can pop in connected headphones and playback the video on their device or social media channel to hear lifelike and immersive sounds that emulate an in-person experience.

360 Audio Recording is the first feature in the Galaxy line leveraging LE Audio, an advanced new Bluetooth audio standard. This new technology brings better audio quality as well as improved latency and battery life. Beyond providing better-sounding music, LE Audio also broadens the spectrum of audio experiences to deliver more complex and rich sound that can be shared with others. Now, LE Audio brings binaural recording to Galaxy Buds2 Pro – taking advantage of both the left and right mics at the same time. When pairing the Buds2 Pro with a Galaxy Z Flip4 or Fold4, users are drawn into the moment, benefitting from high-quality stereo audio as well as high-quality video.

Camera Controller: Frame the Perfect Shot Right from Your Wrist

Photography and videography with Galaxy smartphones are about maintaining creative control in any situation. One example is the Galaxy Watch’s Camera Controller app, which enables users to control their phone camera right from their wrist. A new update – soon to be available on the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch4 series – adds zoom capabilities to Camera Controller[2], further expanding the Galaxy camera experience with Galaxy smartphone and Galaxy Watch connectivity. Now users can remotely control their phone’s camera zoom with a simple pinch of the watch face or a turn of the rotating bezel – perfect for taking group shots or solo selfies from a distance and eliminating the need to run back and forth to the camera to frame the perfect picture.

Availability[3]

The new 360 Audio Recording feature will be progressively released on Galaxy Buds2 Pro and Galaxy Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 via software updates starting today1. The updated Camera Controller feature will be available on the Galaxy Watch5, Watch5 Pro, Watch4 and Watch4 Classic beginning from February2. These new wearable features are expected to provide more powerful synergies with the new Galaxy camera capabilities – offering new and never-before seen experiences.

Samsung’s brand manifesto, ‘Do What You Can’t’ calls on users to defy barriers and do what can’t be done in the everyday. How individuals express themselves depends on the tools they use, and with the ever-expanding world of social media, the opportunity to create and share epic things has never been greater.

In a series of interviews, content creators from across the UK will share their views on all things technology.

Meet PMac, a qualified personal trainer and fitness enthusiast from London. Amassing over 50,000 followers on his Instagram page, PMac’s passion for fitness inspires his followers to push their limits and achieve their fitness goals. He uses the 4G Galaxy Watch to track his workouts and keep ahead of his fitness game.

Why did you start your Instagram page?

Several years ago, my friend told me about the must-have new platform that allows you to share photos with your followers, and she predicted that soon enough everyone would be using it daily. I liked the idea of sharing my life through photos, so I soon created an Instagram account and started to post my workout routines, as fitness is something I’m naturally interested in.

When I started my Instagram page, the platform wasn’t as active and popular as it is now, so I couldn’t have ever predicted that my follower base would grow so much. I’d never have guessed that I’d be able to use my platform to teach my followers all things fitness related, but I’m grateful that Instagram has provided me with an opportunity to educate and inspire others.

Have you always had an interest in fitness?

My interest in fitness started when I was younger and I used to watch a lot of sports, for example, boxing, wrestling and football. I was always interested in how athletes used their bodies to move and how their strong physical form really enabled them to reach their sporting goals. I began to be more mindful of my own physical form and how I could improve my regime to become fitter and healthier in my daily life, and so a passion for fitness was born!

What’s your best fitness tip?

Consistency is the number one key to everything. There will be days where you feel like quitting, but every single person in the world goes through the same thought process at some point in their lives, whether it’s a hard day at work, or struggling to maintain an exercise routine. The people that don’t quit are the ones that succeed, so always keep pushing yourself to be the very best version of yourself and achieve your goals. As I always say: “Don’t be good, be great!”

Why do you like using the Samsung Galaxy Watch during your workouts?

One of my favourite things about the new 4G Galaxy Watch is that it gives me the freedom to work out without having my phone on me, but I’m still able to check my notifications quickly by glancing at my watch. I regularly practice yoga and now I can avoid getting distracted by not having my phone around.

As well as this, I frequently follow the breathing exercises to help me relax and regulate my heart rate before or after my workout session, and it’s also a great way to unwind in the evenings.

What’s your favourite thing about Samsung wearables?

Aside from its brilliant tracking capabilities, I’m a big fan of the design. I love that it’s so versatile and that it has the capabilities of a fitness tracker, but with a smart look so I can wear it on any occasion – whether it’s at a black-tie event or in the gym.

I also really like that I’m able to easily keep track of my step count. I’ve set myself a personal goal of 20,000 steps per day – so wearing my Galaxy Watch reminds me to always keep on the move so I can hit my target.

If you could offer one piece of advice for those new to fitness, what would it be?

Invest in a personal trainer. They’ll teach you invaluable lessons on how to build muscle, improve your strength and maintain a fitness programme that’s best for you. If you have the correct guidance, you’ll make much more progress than guessing your way around the gym and not knowing how to make the most out of your workouts. You always need someone to push you to your limits and make sure you’re hitting your goals. Once you know what to do and how to work your body in the right way, you can go it alone as you’ll be familiar with the routine, but it does always help to train with someone else for maximum motivation.

Article by Shaun Stafford

Nothing beats a good old family meal: quality time everyday where you can sit down and share good food and the highlights of your day with your nearest and dearest.

But when you are trying to get in shape, it can also be one of your more stressful times: most people now know that half the battle with being fit and healthy starts with the food you eat, and chances are that when it comes to dinner time, we may all be reading off different menu cards…

But don’t worry, that is ok and it’s perfectly normal.

So with that in mind, here are my top tips for staying in shape, whilst keeping family meals at the heart of your household.

Be Aware of Portion Size

If you are trying to get in shape (or even just stay there), you need to get your head around portion sizes. Most people will come unstuck not because they are eating the “wrong” food, just rather too much of it…

This is where understanding your calorie need is a really important concept: knowing how many calories you need to consume in a day, and therefore how many calories you get to eat each meal, will be more than half the battle when it comes to managing your weight and waist line.

A good estimate to start at is to take your bodyweight in pounds and multiply it by 15. This will give you a rough estimate for how many calories you need to maintain your current weight and size. If you are looking to reduce your weight, simply subtract 350-500 calories from this daily total: the opposite must be done if you are looking to put on a bit of size or increase your weight!

Now that you have this number, split it up into how many meals you want to eat in a day and that will give you a good place to start for your family meal prep!

Get APP Happy

When it comes to staying on top of your eating habits and general health, there are so many really useful tools and apps out there to help you. Take the Samsung Health App for instance: on this platform you can track everything from how many steps you take in a day, to exactly what you are eating…

Getting used to tracking things like your food can take a bit of getting used to, but once you get your head around it, it can revolutionise your results. Most foods you buy in the shops now have pretty accurate nutritional information on the back, and the same for most places where you go to eat out.

Plugging in this information helps build a really accurate picture of what you are consuming in a day and takes out the guess work when it comes to eating for your health and fitness.

It also doesn’t have to be boring: I get my son to help me input the data from the food we eat into the apps… he loves the stimulation of the screen and it’s almost like a game for him, whilst at the same time getting him to engage with food and understand the concepts behind what we are eating.

Not only does it keep you on track and build up a really accurate picture of your dietary habits, but it’s starting to educate and get the next generation more aware about health, fitness and the role that diet has to play.

You Can’t Out Train A Bad Diet…

But you can buy yourself some flexibility when it comes to dinner-time!

The old adage of diet being the most important thing when it comes to your overall health and well-being is definitely something that rings true, but the way and frequency in which you exercise can certainly make it easier to relax at the dinner table.

If you go and hit a great workout, or even just be more active than usual, you can track all these stats on your smart watch or fitness tracker. I use the Gear Fit2 Pro on a daily basis, and whether I’m out walking the dog or up at the gym killing a spin class, it records all of the calories I have burnt in the day and stores them on my profile.

This for me is credit in the bank so when I sit down at dinner time with the family, I know where I am from a “Calories In vs Calories Out” point of view.

If I have credit in the bank from a good days work, that means an extra helping or grabbing a dessert to share with the kiddo. If not, I know to reign it in a bit and not go for a bowl of ice-cream after my main.

Being aware of how daily activity can allow you to relax your eating habits and still stay on track with your health and fitness goals is really useful and can allow you to keep some fun and freedom at your family dinners, without compromising with your results.

Get Support!

One of the best ways to bullet proof your chances of success with any health and fitness goal is to get a great support network around you: fill in your nearest and dearest with what you are up to and what you are trying to achieve.

If those around you are more aware of what you are working towards, they are less likely to encourage you to deviate from your plan… and they might actually think about joining you on your journey.

If everyone at the dinner table is working towards a more healthy and happy lifestyle, it will make cooking, eating and relaxing as a family much easier… and even if they don’t come along for the ride with you, it will be great to get their support and reinforcement every evening as you sit around the table enjoying your time as a family.

Samsung has teamed up with top health, fitness and well-being influencers to help inspire you to lead a healthy, balanced and active life. Together, we look at how to eat, sleep and move well with the help of their tips, and by using the Samsung Health app and Gear Sport and Fit2 Pro. Ready, set, track.

Eat Well

Annie Clark is a health and well-being advocate. She created her blog Mind, Body, Bowl as a space to explore holistic approaches to life, be that in eating, exercise or lifestyle. She is a qualified yoga instructor and lives in London.

Annie uses her Gear Sport and Samsung Health app to track the nutritional values of different food and ingredients, giving her an overview of her daily intake of food and drink.

She told us, “most mornings I am up and out of the house pretty early. I have always been a fan of eating a hearty breakfast and it is almost certainly my favourite meal of the day. I recently started using the Samsung Health app with my Gear Sport watch to track my nutrition on the go, in line with my marathon training.”

She shares a delicious yet simple breakfast recipe, along with tips to stay on track of your food intake.

Sleep Well

Lucy Wyndham-Read is a YouTube fitness expert with over 293,000 followers. She thrives off showing the world how easy it is to get healthy, fit and confident and keeps it real and fun along the way.

Lucy often has a bad night’s sleep and was excited to hear that her new Samsung Gear Sport and Samsung Health app offered sleep tracking and goal setting. Together with the devices, she shares her top tips to get a good night’s rest.

She says; “If you get a good night’s sleep you have so much more energy, which means we are likely to make healthier choices like choosing to exercise or eating the right foods. It also boosts your immune system and helps you to manage your weight.”

Here are Lucy’s tips for a good night sleep:

Use the Samsung Health app to set yourself a bedtime and wake-up time. The app and watch will give you a reminder of when to go to bed so you don’t miss it. I challenged myself to be in bed from 10.30pm to 7am, Monday to Friday, so that I had a consistent routine.

Avoid caffeine before bed. You can log your caffeine intake in your Samsung Health app and on your watch, so it’s really easy to keep an eye on those caffeine levels.

Switch off from social; avoid taking your phone to bed which can lead to scrolling through endless feeds.

Move Well

As a World Champion fitness model, Shaun Stafford has attracted a loyal audience across his social media platforms. He has been involved in the health and fitness industry for the best part of 15 years and acted as a global educator and presenter for several brands and top magazines.
Article by Lucy Gornall LIIT HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) has had its fair share of the limelight over recent years but if all those burpees

Article by Lucy Gornall

LIIT

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) has had its fair share of the limelight over recent years but if all those burpees are getting boring, jump on the LIIT (Low Intensity Interval Training) bandwagon. HIIT’s calm little sister was big in the US in 2017 and now it’s set to hit the UK.

LIIT burns the same amount of calories as HIIT, but takes longer to complete and is nowhere near as brutal; it can simply be a walk or light jog. It’s quite a change to the high intensity version, which can take around 20 minutes and has us sweating it out with short, sharp periods of all-out work. LIIT however is almost relaxing and can actually be far kinder to the body.

Monty Simmons, Personal Trainer & Life Coach believes that undergoing endless HIIT sessions ‘isn’t sustainable’. Pushing the body can sometimes lead to injury, but LIIT is more about balance in your training regime.

‘When the body is pushed excessively, weaknesses in your system, muscle imbalances, skeletal misalignments and more will play havoc; leaving you riddled with aches, pains and injuries’, explains Monty.

He adds: ‘You don’t see world class MMA fighters training like they do in their pre-fight training camps all year round; they know it’s not sustainable. It’s no coincidence fighters notoriously injure themselves two weeks before a fight.’

Listening to your favourite tunes is great for LIIT motivation. Samsung Gear Sport and Gear Fit2 Pro have partnered with Spotify so you can listen to music without a smartphone nearby. Just download music onto your wearable and listen through the Icon X earbuds.

To make LIIT work even harder for you, change the direction you walk or walk in a curve. Research shows that walking in a curve can actually burn 20 percent more than walking in a straight line*.

So, grab your wearable tracker, get outside and start walking.

Virtual Reality

How about a scenic run along Australia’s Great Ocean Road, without actually leaving your front room? Although VR workouts have held their place on the fitness scene over recent years, Personal Trainer and Health Editor Lucy Gornall believes they will soon be more ‘readily available’. ‘Bkool is a virtual reality simulator that lets cyclists ride any route in 3D alongside other cyclists around the world, connected in real time. With the simulators, users actually experience the same sensations they would on the road,’ she explains.

There’s even the Omni by Virtuix- a small treadmill that when connected to a game, lets you jump, crouch and run with the treadmill keeping track of your every move.

Samsung have produced VR experiences in a variety of different areas including being able to experience a gym work out with Chris Eubank Jr.

Merged Workouts

We’ve already got Barry’s Bootcamp – think treadmills mixed with weights – and Barrecore, a brutal ballet-based workout that also incorporates light weights and resistance bands, but Diana Booty, Fitness Expert on behalf of The Harley Medical Group thinks we’ll see even more workouts offering the benefits of a variety of disciplines.

‘The forms it can potentially take are endless so it’ll be exciting to see which new concepts emerge over the next 12 months!’

Ashley Verma, Founder of DEFINE. London says clients are ‘getting bored at the gym’. In fact she’s created a workout that will keep people hooked. ‘I’ve merged the strength, fluidity, and endurance of ballet and other dance genres to create well thought out concept classes’, explains Ashley. So, what next? Tennis and yoga, perhaps?

Samsung wearable devices are perfect for workouts like this as they support dynamic workout tracking with auto activity detection including, squats, burpees and lunges, so as soon as you start moving, your watch will record it.

Rise of Recovery…

Relaxing the body post workout ensures we can keep training hard. Cryotherapy – defined as ‘the use of extreme cold in surgery or other medical treatment’ – has become the latest buzzword. According to London’s 111Cryo, muscles repair faster in the extreme cold and anti-inflammatory responses help alleviate swelling. Long term, Dr Sarah Brewer, GP and Healthspan Medical Director says whole body cryotherapy can improve athletic performance and recovery, aid sleep and weight loss and even slow the ageing process.

If being extremely cold doesn’t excite you, acupuncture and massages are other great recovery options.

…and Recovery Fitness

Yoga, foam rolling and stretching– to name a few – help iron out muscle imbalances and postural dysfunctions. You’re moving, as you recover.

Monty Simmons, Personal Trainer & Life Coach explains that ‘we must allow our body to replenish, heal damage and make ‘gains’. Otherwise you’ll never experience it performing at maximum output because you’ll constantly be washed out,’ he adds.

A gentle swim, done properly is great for opening up the range of motion for various muscles. Keep tracking your movement in the pool with the Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro; water resistant up to 5 ATM2. With the Speedo partnership, wearers are able to track their stroke rate and pattern as well as laps and times.

Day to Day Fitness

Lunch break walks, standing desks or taking the stairs instead of the lift; it’s not just about thrashing out a 30-minute gym workout anymore – we need to maintain an active state throughout much more of the day. In 2018 we’ll see even more onus on day to day fitness, making sure we’re moving much more throughout the day.

With the rise of wearable technology, it’s easy to track movement and be reminded when we need to get moving; ideal for office workers who are often sat at a desk for hours. Trackers such as the Samsung Gear Sport, have reminders to move if we have been inactive for a period of time. They don’t just track fast paced exercise like running and cycling, but can track day to day fitness like walking and your daily steps. Plus with the caffeine and water tracking feature, you can keep on top off your hydration too.

Whichever 2018 fitness trend suits you, Samsung encourages you to #GoBeyondFitness, to push new boundaries. Meaningful progress only comes from defying barriers. What can you achieve in 2018?
