Samsung’s Galaxy S8/S8+ and Tab S3 Achieve Certification from the National Information Assurance Partnership

Ridgefield Park, NJ – July 25, 2017 –Samsung Electronics America, Inc., announced today that the Galaxy S8/S8+ and Tab S3 have received approval from the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), through the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation, and currently appear on the Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSfC) list.

The certification validates that the Galaxy S8/S8+ and Tab S3 satisfy the rigorous government security standards required to maintain the security posture of National Security Systems. In addition, this approval allows federal departments and agencies, and other highly regulated industries and sectors to have immediate access to the market’s most modern commercial hardware to meet rapidly evolving customer needs.

“We are committed to pursuing and validating our devices against the most stringent certifications available in the market to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our security-conscious customers,” said Chris Balcik, Vice President of Sales, Federal Government at Samsung Electronics America. “With this certification, our customers will be able to continue enjoying the ease of use they have come to expect on Samsung devices without having to compromise security.”

The Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation, commonly referred to as Common Criteria, is an internationally recognized standard for defining security objectives of information technology products as well as a methodology for evaluating vendor compliance with these objectives. Twenty-eight governments use Common Criteria as the basis for their own certification schemes.

Samsung uses the Mobile Device Fundamentals Protection Profile (MDFPP) v3 as the basis for the most recent Common Criteria evaluation. This Protection Profile not only looks not at encryption, but it also takes a more holistic view of the device security capabilities. In addition, Samsung validates an integrated IPsec VPN client, providing a single solution for secure mobility.
