Together, they developed the<a href=\"https:\/\/news.samsung.com\/us\/tag\/Climate-Superstars-Challenge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Climate Superstars Challenge,<\/a> an environmental contest designed to ignite STEM interest among kids and teens and encourage youth to raise awareness about climate change. The Climate Superstars Challenge is the first challenge of its kind that aims to motivate young people to do their part by taking action to help protect the environment. After completing varying sustainability activities for seven weeks, Club members at the Boys &amp; Girls Clubs Seminole Tribe of Florida were selected as the grand prize winner of the Samsung Climate Superstars Challenge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/14165552\/Salyer_20161207_0034.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-11033 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/14165552\/Salyer_20161207_0034-950x634.jpg\" alt=\"bgca boys and girls club climate superstars challenge\" width=\"730\" height=\"487\" srcset=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/14165552\/Salyer_20161207_0034-950x634.jpg 950w, https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/14165552\/Salyer_20161207_0034-600x401.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/a>Now in its second year, the Climate Superstars Challenge<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=W4UyGmKZ7hs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> engages youth ages 11-13<\/a> and 184 Boys &amp; Girls Clubs across the country participated in this year\u2019s contest. As a part of Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of America\u2018s strategy to ensure all members graduate from high school STEM ready, Club members that participated in the challenge completed weekly activities centered on core themes such as improving energy-efficiency, conserving water and reducing waste.\u00a0 All participants\u00a0completed primary tasks such as identifying energy-efficient, ENERGY STAR products and planting trees, and Clubs were also encouraged to be creative in the completing of their tasks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/14165545\/Salyer_20161207_0099.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-11045 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/14165545\/Salyer_20161207_0099-950x634.jpg\" alt=\"bgca boys and girls club climate superstars challenge0099\" width=\"730\" height=\"487\" srcset=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/14165545\/Salyer_20161207_0099-950x634.jpg 950w, https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/14165545\/Salyer_20161207_0099-600x401.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As the Samsung Climate Superstar, the Boys &amp; Girls Clubs Seminole Tribe of Florida will receive an technology makeover featuring several ENERGY STAR certified products,\u00a0including two 55 inch Ultra High Def LED Smart TVs, three Virtual Reality devices, thirty Galaxy tablets, one Gear 360 Camera and thirty notebooks at a value of\u00a0more than $25,000.* Participants received prizes throughout the three stages of the Challenge,\u00a0totaling more than $45,000* of technology. In addition, a celebration event was held at the Club to reward members for their outstanding efforts to increase awareness about climate\u00a0change within their community. During the event, the technology makeover was revealed to\u00a0Club members and they had the opportunity to experience the new ENERGY STAR equipment\u00a0for the first time.
