The showcase, hosted by Ann Woo, senior director of corporate citizenship, Samsung Electronics America, is a culmination of a 14-week program where fourth- and fifth-grade girls were encouraged to explore computer science and electrical engineering as part of <em>Samsung emPOWER Tomorrow<\/em>, an after-school initiative to inspire girls to pursue opportunities in these fields.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2014, <em>Samsung emPOWER Tomorrow<\/em> tasks participants with creating their own sprite character and dance party on Scratch, a platform for creating interactive stories, games and animations, enabling the girls to take creative license in building out their character\u2019s stories and backgrounds. (Photo credit: Tom Salyer for Samsung)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Since the program\u2019s start, <em>Samsung emPOWER Tomorrow<\/em>, an extension of\u00a0 the <em>Samsung Solve For Tomorrow <\/em>initiative, has introduced over 600 young girls to the people, technologies and processes behind the software and hardware they use in everyday life, with another 350 girls expected to participate by year end.
