Samsung\u2019s <\/strong>Galaxy S8 and S8+<\/strong> <\/a>have received a Gold rating from the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT)<\/strong>, the definitive rating system for evaluating electronic devices\u2019 eco-friendliness. The devices are the first smartphones to earn the certification, which assesses, among other criteria, material selection, product longevity, the manufacturer\u2019s social contributions, and energy conservation during production and use.<\/p>\n

On August 31, 2017, UL\u2019s Chief Executive Officer, Keith Williams presented YH Eom, Executive Vice President & Deputy Head, Samsung Electronics North America, with a plaque signifying the achievement of UL ECOLOGO Gold Certification to the UL 110 Standard of Sustainability for Mobile Phones for the Galaxy S8\/8+ phones and their inclusion in the EPEAT registry.<\/p><\/div>\n

The certification is a joint initiative of the non-profit Green Electronics Council<\/strong> and Underwriters Laboratories (UL)<\/strong>, a global safety science organization. The rating was earned in recognition of Samsung\u2019s efforts to produce the devices in a sustainable way, which included increasing the efficiency of their chargers, using recycled plastics in accessories, and other eco-friendly measures.<\/p>\n

This distinction is the second that the Galaxy S8 and S8+ have received from UL. This past June, the organization\u2019s UL Environment division awarded both devices ECOLOGO Gold Certification<\/strong> to the ANSI\/UL 110 Standard for Sustainability for Mobile Phones.<\/p>\n

In addition to receiving a top EPEAT rating, both the Galaxy S8 and S8+ have also been given a \u201cCarbon Footprint Label\u201d<\/strong> from the Carbon Trust, a leading authority on carbon-reduction programs and certifications, as well as a \u201cVitality Leaf\u201d<\/strong> eco-label from the Russian Ecological Union.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
