Getty\/Samsung Annual Charity Gala)<\/p><\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The 17th annual Samsung Charity Gala, held last week in New York City, drew an array of celebrities representing their philanthropic causes and other long-time charity partners of <strong>Samsung Electronics America<\/strong>\u00a0dedicated to initiatives that provide children access to education, mentorship, life-saving medical treatment and the opportunity to gain leadership skills.<\/p>\n<p>The evening raised $3 million for organizations like Pitbull\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slamfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SLAM Foundation<\/a>, Jessica Seinfeld\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/goodplusfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GOOD+ Foundation<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/ryanseacrestfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan Seacrest Foundation<\/a> while also shining a spotlight on all attendees as \u201cChampions of Hope\u201d for their work advocating for children, their families and their communities.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"2018 Samsung Annual Charity Gala\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2yw61F8i36w?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>From Hollywood A-listers and professional athletes to everyday professionals driven to make a difference, Samsung\u2019s annual gala attendees helped highlight what it means to forge hope by opening up to communities in need.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Samsung talks about wanting to inspire the world and create the future, it\u2019s a vision that reaches beyond the boardroom,\u201d <strong>said Tim Baxter, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics North America<\/strong>, in his opening remarks.<\/p>\n<p>Walking the Red Carpet prior to the event, <strong>Fitz and the Tantrums lead singer Michael Fitzpatrick told the cameras<\/strong>, \u201cFor us we feel so blessed to be on the journey and have had all the success we\u2019ve had as a band, so for Fitz and the Tantrums, anything we can do any time to give back, we\u2019re there.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<div id=\"attachment_23281\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104430\/1042173762.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23281\" class=\"wp-image-23281 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104430\/1042173762-950x632.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"486\" srcset=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104430\/1042173762-950x632.jpg 950w, https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104430\/1042173762-600x399.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-23281\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NEW YORK, NY &#8211; SEPTEMBER 27: James King, Joseph Karnes, Noelle Scaggs, Michael Fitzpatrick, Jeremy Ruzumna and John Wicks of Fitz and The Tantrums perform on stage at the Samsung Charity Gala 2018 at The Manhattan Center on September 27, 2018 in New York City. Getty\/Samsung Annual Charity Gala).<\/p><\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Samsung, celebrating its 40th year in the U.S., has contributed over $75 million to charities, which has helped more than 2,600 schools, hospitals, and foundations throughout the U.S. since 2001.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the best parts of my job is the platform I have to help others,\u201d <strong>Baxter told the crowd<\/strong>. \u201cIt\u2019s really a privilege to be able to deploy Samsung\u2019s resources in order to change lives.\u201d With that, the night kicked off with a series of performances, touching speeches and of course, charitable fundraising.<\/p>\n<p>One of the gala highlights was the sheer amount of extraordinary organizations, an eclectic group of entertainers, Hollywood actors, and athletes who came to represent their Samsung-supported causes and the people they serve.<\/p>\n<p>They included NFL star Victor Cruz, who spoke of his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.victorcruzfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">foundation\u2019s efforts to provide STEM programs across the U.S.<\/a> and highlighted a trip to Puerto Rico a week earlier to announce a donation to <a href=\"https:\/\/news.samsung.com\/us\/samsung-partners-victor-cruz-foundation-support-sustainable-rebuilding-efforts-puerto-rico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Solar Libre Puerto Rico, which Samsung matched in order to give a total of $120,000<\/a> to the organization working toward grid-independent community solar in areas devastated by Hurricane Maria last year.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<div id=\"attachment_23282\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104429\/1042174128.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-23282\" class=\"wp-image-23282 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104429\/1042174128-950x631.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"485\" srcset=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104429\/1042174128-950x631.jpg 950w, https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104429\/1042174128-600x399.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-23282\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">NEW YORK, NY &#8211; SEPTEMBER 27: Victor Cruz speaks onstage at the Samsung Charity Gala 2018 at The Manhattan Center on September 27, 2018 in New York City. Getty\/Samsung Annual Charity Gala)<\/p><\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Later on, Matthew McConaughey took the stage to represent the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jklivinfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">just keep livin foundation<\/a>, which he runs with his wife Camila Alves, and implements after-school fitness and wellness programs that give their students the tools to live a healthier life. He also helped kick off the evening\u2019s auction, lending his humor to encourage the crowd to donate. Getty\/Samsung Annual Charity Gala).<\/p><\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The night\u2019s biggest emotional moment came when actress and activist Mariska Hargitay received the Samsung Champion of Hope Award for her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.joyfulheartfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joyful Heart Foundation\u2019s<\/a> work, which helps heal and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Her touching speech included remarks on Joyful Heart\u2019s contribution. \u201cWhat I am most proud of is the fact that from the beginning we have sent a steady message, a consistent message to survivors,\u201d <strong>Hargitay told the audience<\/strong>. \u201cWe hear them, we believe them, and their healing is our priority.<\/p>\n<p>The evening\u2019s performances included an opening musical number by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gilderlehrman.org\/content\/hamilton-education-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History\u2019s Hamilton Education Program<\/a> and a rocking set by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fitzandthetantrums.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fitz and the Tantrums<\/a> later on in the night. Getty\/Samsung Annual Charity Gala)<\/p><\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re looking at a first generation Cuban-American who didn\u2019t graduate from high school, was never a trouble maker, and now we got 10 schools, close to 10,000 kids and the graduation rate at two schools is at 100 percent,\u201d Pitbull said, referring to his foundation\u2019s charter schools.<\/p>\n<p>While the star-studded evening provided many memorable moments and laughs, the most important aspect was what it represented \u2013 embodied in the remarks of Gunnar Esiason, the inspiration behind his father\u2019s foundation, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esiason.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Boomer Esiason Foundation<\/a>, which works to heighten awareness, education and quality of life for those affected by cystic fibrosis as Gunnar has lived with since he was diagnosed at the age of two.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cCystic Fibrosis is a respiratory illness.
