Samsung employees based in Ridgefield Park, NJ can often be found kayaking with friends on Overpeck Creek in their time away from the office, and once a year for the company\u2019s annual <a href=\"https:\/\/news.samsung.com\/us\/many-people-much-good-samsung-day-service-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Day of Service<\/a>, Samsung sends approximately 100 volunteers out to assist in Riverkeeper\u2019s litter clean-up efforts.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104234\/RKS2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23851 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104234\/RKS2-950x636.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"489\" srcset=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104234\/RKS2-950x636.png 950w, https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104234\/RKS2-600x402.png 600w, https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104234\/RKS2.png 1015w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>To honor this special relationship, Samsung also recently donated five new Galaxy Books that have become an indispensable part of Riverkeeper\u2019s daily operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful to Samsung for their generous donation of both time and treasure\u201d said Riverkeeper Outreach Coordinator Caitlin Doran. The Riverkeeper team uses the Galaxy Books to process point-of-sale transactions, manage email lists and social media, and capture data on the fly.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104233\/RKS3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23852 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104233\/RKS3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"819\" height=\"615\" srcset=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104233\/RKS3.png 819w, https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104233\/RKS3-600x451.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Hackensack Riverkeeper staffers like Emily Fisher have been getting the community reacquainted with the river (including tributaries like Overpeck Creek) in growing numbers. Between its two paddling centers, Riverkeeper estimates that it puts over 4,000 paddlers on the water every year. A licensed captain, former rock drummer, and passionate naturalist named Bill Sheehan, known as \u2018Captain Bill,\u2019 founded Hackensack Riverkeeper in 1997.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104232\/RKS5.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23854 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104232\/RKS5-600x447.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"447\" srcset=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104232\/RKS5-600x447.png 600w, https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104232\/RKS5.png 823w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\u201cThe whole goal is to reconnect people with the watershed,\u201d <strong>said Captain Bill<\/strong>. \u201cGetting people reacquainted with the river is a big part of our mission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Captain Bill considers volunteer and outreach programs to be the heart of Riverkeeper.<br \/>\nThe organization conducts outreach events in communities along its 210 square mile watershed from New York State to Newark Bay, and provides public access opportunities at its two kayak centers. They also conduct wetland tours, called Eco-Cruises, aboard their two 32ft. pontoon boats.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104232\/RKS6.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23855 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104232\/RKS6-600x448.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104232\/RKS6-600x448.png 600w, https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104232\/RKS6.png 823w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Riverkeeper\u2019s Paddle Center Manager Russ Wilke shares Captain Bill\u2019s opinion when it comes to teaching others about the river. Riverkeeper Outreach Coordinator Caitlin Doran leads clean-up initiatives out of \u201cVanna White,\u201d Riverkeeper\u2019s well-stocked transit van. A lifelong nature enthusiast and activist, she uses one of the organizations new Galaxy Books to coordinate \u201cwonderful mobs\u201d of corporate and community volunteers.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104231\/RKS9.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23859 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104231\/RKS9-600x449.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"449\" srcset=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104231\/RKS9-600x449.png 600w, https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/14104231\/RKS9.png 825w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Doran leads no fewer than 25 clean-ups from April into November. Each year, she and her volunteers remove as much as 20 tons of waste\u2014mostly plastic\u2014from the environment. The Samsung Galaxy Books will help her get the most out her volunteers\u2019 time, checking them in faster and getting them to work quicker.
