{"id":27935,"date":"2019-05-24T14:57:17","date_gmt":"2019-05-24T18:57:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/stage-web-alb-2136653291.us-east-1.elb.amazonaws.com\/us\/?p=27935"},"modified":"2024-05-20T14:26:20","modified_gmt":"2024-05-20T18:26:20","slug":"carrying-load-cannot-samsungsalutes-veterans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.samsung.com\/us\/carrying-the-load-those-who-cannot-samsungsalutes-veterans\/","title":{"rendered":"Carrying the Load for Those Who Cannot: #SamsungSalutes Veterans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One hundred <strong>Samsung<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Electronics America<\/strong> employees from South Carolina to San Jose have laced up their sneakers and joined the national <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carrytheload.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carry the Load<\/a> relay, a weeks-long walk to raise funds for dozens of organizations that support veterans, first responders and their families.<\/p>\n<p>Culminating in a Memorial weekend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carrytheload.org\/site\/PageServer?pagename=dallas_memorial_march\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">march in Dallas, TX<\/a>, Carry the Load 2019 brings together thousands of Americans in a shared commitment to remember, honor and support fallen heroes in our communities and their families. Relay journeys follow three separate routes, stretching from West Point, NY to Washington DC and West to Dallas, from Seattle South to Dallas and from Minneapolis to Dallas, with teams passing symbolic batons to each other along the way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMemorial Day should not just be defined by the opening of the pool, but as a way to honor veterans and keep their stories alive,\u201d <strong>said John Hendrick, chief veterans\u2019 advocate of the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.samsung.com\/us\/veterans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Samsung Veterans Community<\/a> at Samsung Electronics America<\/strong>, who served in the US Army from 1973 to 1976. \u201cRemembering those who sacrificed so much can be a way to unite us,\u201d <strong>he said<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p>Carry the Load partners with non-profit organizations to provide a continuum of care for military veterans, law enforcement, firefighters, first responders and their families. The Carry the Load 2018 relay raised more than $2.5 million in 2018. Samsung was among the top corporate participants last year and is on track to achieve the same in 2019, Hendrick said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means a lot to me to work at a company with this level of family and friends that served in the military,\u201d <strong>explained Miles<\/strong>, including her Uncle, Father, two brothers and her husband who all served in the Air Force as well as an \u201cadopted\u201d Grandfather who served in the Army.<\/p>\n\n<p>The highlight of the Atlanta leg for her was hearing a toddler share that he was walking for his uncle and later seeing him again sitting on his father\u2019s shoulders. \u201cThis was a great example of passing honor for those that serve from generation to generation \u2013 what a great act to experience,\u201d I feel very strongly for the organization and the criticality of the healing services that it provides for our veterans and first responders,\u201d <strong>said Rachel Hager, Kansas City team lead<\/strong>.
