MIT Hackathon to Foster Healthcare Entrepreneurship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 July 31, <\/strong><strong>2019 &#8211; Samsung Electronics America, Inc.,<\/strong> the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Department of Veteran\u2019s Affairs Veteran\u2019s Health Administration (VHA) are excited to announce the next <a href=\"http:\/\/grandhack.mit.edu\/dc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MIT Hacking Medicine Grand Hack<\/a> taking place on August 2 \u2013 4 at the <a href=\"https:\/\/program.developer.samsung.com\/grandhack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Samsung Executive Briefing Center<\/a> located in Washington, D.C. Similar to the Boston event held in June, students, engineers, clinicians, designers and developers will immerse themselves in healthcare innovation over this three-day event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince the opening of our D.C. Solutions Center last October, we have been working to engage, support and educate government customers, policymakers and technology leaders to reinforce Samsung\u2019s commitment to Washington and the U.S.,\u201d <strong>said Taher Behbehani, SVP and GM of Samsung\u2019s Mobile B2B Division.<\/strong> \u201cParticipating in events like the Hackathon with our partners at MIT and VHA, and hosting it in our D.C. office, supports our pledge to building a collaborative ecosystem to provide transformative mobility to the government community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMIT Hacking Medicine\u2019s mission to energize and connect the best minds across the healthcare and technology ecosystems to solve challenges dovetails perfectly with Samsung\u2019s goal of delivering cutting-edge mobile solutions,\u201d <strong>said Chris Balcik, VP of Federal, Samsung Electronics America.<\/strong> \u201cWe are proud to lend our support and solutions to address challenges like access to healthcare head on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Teams participating in the Hack will leverage the Samsung <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samsung.com\/us\/mobile\/galaxy-note9\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Galaxy Note9<\/a>, the Samsung <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samsung.com\/global\/galaxy\/gear-s3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gear S3<\/a>, Samsung <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.samsung.com\/galaxy\/sdks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SDKs<\/a> and the Samsung <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samsungknox.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Knox<\/a> platform to create compelling application concepts to address Veteran Access to Healthcare; Mental Health and Professional Burnout; and Rare and Orphan Diseases. Samsung will honor the three teams that most effectively embrace Samsung technology when creating a transformative digital health solution with the Samsung Breakthroughs that Matter award. The goal of this award is to cultivate a cadre of innovative development teams that put forward compelling applications for our nation\u2019s veterans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis event is a great example of how VA is partnering with academic and industry partners like Samsung and MIT to find new ways to improve Veterans health care and delivery,\u201d <strong>said Dr. Carolyn Clancy, Deputy Under Secretary for Discovery, Education and Affiliate Networks.<\/strong> \u201cHealth challenges that Veterans face aren\u2019t one-dimensional and don\u2019t lend themselves to one-size fits all solutions\u2014which why these <a href=\"http:\/\/grandhack.mit.edu\/dc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Grand Hacks<\/a> are great opportunities to engage students, entrepreneurs, Veterans, health professionals and others with fresh perspectives and ideas, to help us improve care for our country\u2019s Veterans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By providing MIT Hacking Medicine with access to Samsung\u2019s engineering expertise, developer resources, and mobile technologies, the brightest minds of today can work to create real-world opportunities to impact tomorrow\u2019s outcomes for veterans.
