Earlier this month at Samsung 837<\/a>, located in the historic Meatpacking District of New York City, employees hosted forty children of CAMBA<\/a> summer camps for an exciting day of tech exploration before supplying them with back to school supplies to start the school year.<\/p>\n

The employee-driven endeavor, coordinated by Samsung 837 Experience Specialists and Volunteer Coordinators Kim Walcott and Victoria Fernandez, contributed to the Samsung 837 retail team\u2019s 300 collective hours of community service so far this year, and the team has plans to add many more before the year is up.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted to work with an organization that supports children in need and make sure they had a positive start to their school year,\u201d said Walcott<\/strong>. \u201cAt Samsung we\u2019re empowered in various ways to give back so we utilized the company\u2019s workplace giving platform, Benevity, to identify the organization that could help us make the greatest impact for kids headed back to school in our local community.\u201d<\/p>\n

CAMBA\u2019s summer camps provide young people with the opportunity to grow socially and academically by offering a combination of social services, recreational and educational activities. In addition, CAMBA\u2019s wide-ranging programs and initiatives lay the groundwork for economic stability, educational fulfillment, strong families and healthy lives for the New Yorkers they serve.<\/p>\n

To prepare for the students\u2019 arrival, Samsung 837 retail staff all wore the company Samsung Gives signature shirts, and gave additional volunteer hours to help gather all supplies, treats and handcrafted inspirational notes for each participant.<\/p>\n

Notes to the students were meant to inspire greatness in the students for the school year ahead. \u201cLet this be a great year, dream big and get ready to have fun,\u201d read one of the messages.<\/p>\n

As the children arrived they were welcomed by Samsung 837 Associate Manager, Anne Montoban, who prepped them for what to expect during the day.<\/p>\n

The first stop for some was the Mobile Game section, where kids could experience the power of gaming on-the-go with the Galaxy S10<\/a> smartphone.<\/p>\n

Later the kids had fun creating 360\u00ba photos using 96 Galaxy S10+ phones mounted in the Sphere activation.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

At the \u201cColoring Book\u201d activation, the group used the Galaxy Note10<\/a> to be creative with the device\u2019s S Pen<\/a> and watch the image come to life on a three-story-high screen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe experience of having the kids at Samsung 837 really hit home for some team members because they knew of CAMBA from when they were kids, attending the organization\u2019s summer camps and receiving support in finding summer jobs,\u201d explained Walcott<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe visit to Samsung 837 was a perfect cap to the summer for our youth from our Cornerstone programs,\u201d said Wesner Pierre, CAMBA Vice President of Education and Youth programs<\/strong>. \u201cBesides the fun, experiential learning experience, they also appreciated the backpack of supplies to start their school year with the tools they need to succeed in the classroom.\u201d<\/p>\n

CAMBA’s Communications Director, Sheila Stainback, worked to ensure the greatest number of children would be able to participate and receive new school supplies.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

“Our first intention was to donate school supplies to children in need and we wanted to invite an organization we haven\u2019t hosted before to extend our reach,\u201d said Fernandez<\/strong>. \u201cWhat\u2019s inspiring for me is that Samsung gives its employees the opportunity to help our community and this effort opens the door to providing further support to this community of students in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
