To learn more about its development, Samsung Newsroom spoke with Seokmin Baek from the Product Planning Group and Michael (Hyeon-seok) Kim from the Enterprise R&D Lab of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics.<\/p>\n

A Portable Screen for Every Viewing Experience<\/strong><\/h5>\n

One of the key challenges in product planning is aligning new technologies with shopper demand. \u201cWe recognized the demand for a more comfortable viewing experience \u2014 even at home \u2014 and paired that insight with our expertise in portable screen technology,\u201d explained Baek, who played a key role in planning The Movingstyle<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom The Sero, a TV with a pivoting screen for optimized mobile viewing, to The Freestyle portable projector and now The Movingstyle<\/a> portable screen, Samsung<\/a> has continuously expanded the boundaries of portable viewing,\u201d he added. \u201cAlong the way, we identified the demand for a seamless viewing experience that lets users instantly open a screen wherever they want \u2014 and that idea became the starting point for this product.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Movingstyle<\/a> comes with a rollable floor stand1<\/sup><\/a> to move it from room to room. Or, you can use it just like a tablet2<\/sup><\/a>, with a handle that doubles as a kickstand. In either configuration, The Movingstyle<\/a> is built for fully portable entertainment, with a built-in battery supporting up to three hours on a single charge3<\/sup><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the goal of creating a portable screen that can be moved freely throughout the home, we equipped The Movingstyle<\/a> with a kickstand that allows users to continue watching content while, and immediately after, detaching the screen \u2014 and to carry it easily by the handle,\u201d explained Baek. By simply unfolding the kickstand, you can detach the screen without any extra tools and place The Movingstyle<\/a> upright on a desk, table or many other surfaces.<\/p>\n

Because The Movingstyle<\/a> supports both our SolarCell remote and touch input, operation feels intuitive and convenient, letting you control your screen in the way that works for you.<\/p>\n

When you want to quickly adjust settings while on the move or look up a cooking video in the kitchen, you can use the touchscreen for quick taps, swipes and scrolls. When watching a movie in bed, you can sit back and pick up the remote control. There\u2019s also voice support for Bixby<\/a>4<\/sup><\/a> and gesture controls through a Galaxy Watch<\/a>5<\/sup><\/a>. Whatever you choose, interactions are always fast, fluid and intuitive.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe spent a lot of time thinking about The Movingstyle\u2019s<\/a> identity during product planning and eventually arrived at a new category by combining our expertise in mobile devices with the strengths of our TVs and monitors,\u201d Baek explained. \u201cIn essence, The Movingstyle<\/a> offers the portability of a mobile device, the accuracy of a monitor and the immersive viewing experience of a TV. The addition of a touch interface, in particular, takes the user experience to a whole new level.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shopper Satisfaction as the Ultimate Standard<\/h5>\n

As a product that combines great qualities of mobile devices, monitors and TVs, creating The Movingstyle<\/a> was no easy task. \u201cWe had to redefine everything \u2014 from planning and development to manufacturing \u2014 to deliver a completely new user experience,\u201d said Kim, who was involved in the product\u2019s development. \u201cWe revisited every step, from consumer research and the development process to quality assurance.\u201d<\/p>\n

But redefining internal processes was only part of the challenge. It also required determining specifications from scratch and adhering to standards beyond that of a typical TV. \u201cI often pulled all-nighters, driven by the determination to create a brand-new category,\u201d he said. \u201cWithout that goal, I don\u2019t think I could have completed the project.\u201d<\/p>\n

Developing such a versatile product came with many hurdles, but Kim remained composed throughout. \u201cAs a developer and engineer, it is my role to identify what customers want and turn that into a product,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Movingstyle<\/a> was born from close collaboration across our TV, monitor and mobile teams, achieving a higher level of perfection by bringing together expertise from each field,\u201d Kim added with pride. \u201cIt\u2019s an outcome that could only be achieved by a world-leading company with deep technological expertise and product know-how across various categories.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Beautifully Effortless Design, Perfected in the Details<\/h5>\n

Aside from the screen itself, the kickstand is the most distinctive aspect of The Movingstyle\u2019s<\/a> design. As a key component that completes the portable screen\u2019s user experience, it hides a number of intricate details behind its simple appearance.<\/p>\n

Durability was the primary focus of the kickstand\u2019s development. \u201cAfter much consideration, we adopted a circuit-integrated design for the hinge structure that allows the stand to fold. Simply put, there\u2019s a sturdy hinge, and housed inside it are the cables, power management circuit and other parts,\u201d explained Kim.<\/p>\n

To ensure high quality and durability, Samsung<\/a> chose a structure that integrates the circuit and hinge into a single module. This approach required a more complex design and manufacturing process, but was key to achieving The Movingstyle\u2019s<\/a> exceptional build.<\/p>\n

Careful thought was put into the connection ports located on the back of the screen as well. \u201cThe Movingstyle<\/a> was designed to function as a single, self-contained object that blends naturally into any space, thanks to its slim and compact form,\u201d Baek said. \u201cWe especially wanted users to focus entirely on the screen without being distracted by exposed cables. To achieve this, we neatly positioned the connection ports at the center of the rear panel, resulting in a clean and refined finish.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another advantage of The Movingstyle<\/a> is its ability to switch seamlessly between landscape and portrait modes while attached to the base stand.
