Yet access to quality technology education remains uneven, leaving many students without the tools or confidence to compete. Samsung <a href=\"https:\/\/news.samsung.com\/us\/samsung-solve-for-tomorrow-explores-state-stem-education-new-survey-gen-z-gen-alphas-ai-projects-outpacing-educations-ability-keep-up\">research<\/a> underscores the urgency: while 88% of teachers recognize that artificial intelligence (AI) is important for students\u2019 future careers, more than half report lacking formal training in the subject.<\/p>\n<p>To help close this gap, Samsung Electronics America invests in programs like <a href=\"https:\/\/news.samsung.com\/us\/samsung-innovation-campus-ai-course-empowers-communities-education\/\">Samsung Innovation Campus<\/a>. Many students still face barriers, from cost to limited access to inclusive learning environments, that make entering these fields more challenging. Samsung Innovation Campus aims to address these challenges by offering free, hands-on education that meets students where they are.<\/p>\n<p>For this edition of the Samsung Innovation Campus <a href=\"https:\/\/news.samsung.com\/us\/samsung-innovation-campus-learner-spotlight-natia-lollie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Learner Spotlight<\/a> series, the US Newsroom spoke with <strong>Jang Luis Mok<\/strong> about his experience in the Coding and Programming course and how it is shaping his future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy name is Jang Luis Mok. I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. I moved to Teaneck,  2 years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"embedded product-module\">\n\t\t<a id=\"product-module-0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.samsung.com\/us\/solvefortomorrow\/\" title=\"Solve for Tomorrow\" class=\"snr-article_product-image\" target=\"_blank\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.us.news.samsung.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/06102359\/solve-for-tomorrownewsroom-product-module-1.png\" alt=\"Solve for Tomorrow\">\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/div>\n<p>Jang is currently studying General Studies, Natural Sciences &amp; Mathematics at Bergen Community College and plans to continue his education at a four-year university, with interests spanning computer science, physics, and electrical and computer engineering. His interest in technology began at an early age through exposure to computers and video games, which sparked a curiosity about how they were built, even after early challenges in related coursework. But Jang noted, \u201cWhen this opportunity came up I took it without any doubt in my mind. I felt like this moment was the one I could have to learn more about programming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before joining Samsung Innovation Campus, Jang faced challenges that made pursuing STEM more difficult, particularly navigating language barriers in the classroom. He reflected on his time at Samsung Innovation Campus, noting, &#8220;&#8230;Having a professor that speaks the same language as you completely makes a difference.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Through the program, he has developed foundational skills in data structures and algorithms\u2014concepts he sees as critical for future careers in technology\u2014while also benefiting from a collaborative learning environment alongside his peers. Jang noted, \u201cMany of my classmates are on the same boat as me. Through initiatives like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samsung.com\/us\/solvefortomorrow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Samsung Solve for Tomorrow<\/a>, students are encouraged to apply their skills to real-world challenges, recently highlighted through hands-on experiences like the <a href=\"https:\/\/news.samsung.com\/us\/samsung-solve-for-tomorrow-teams-up-mark-cuban-emma-grede-ai-action-lab-hundreds-new-york-city-students\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI in Action Lab<\/a> in New York City, developed in collaboration with Mark Cuban and Emma Grede. Now in its 16th year, Solve for Tomorrow has awarded more than $29 million in technology and classroom resources, helping students build skills that extend beyond the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, Jang hopes to build on what he\u2019s learning to pursue a career in research and technological innovation, with an eye toward working at a research institution or becoming a professor in computer science or physics.
