South Africa’s creator economy reached another major milestone today as the 2026 Content Creator Awards officially unveiled this year’s nominees

South Africa’s creator economy reached another major milestone today as the 2026 Content Creator Awards officially unveiled this year’s nominees while announcing Samsung Galaxy as its new title sponsor, marking the biggest evolution in the awards’ history. In addition, this year’s nominees were officially announced as the countdown to the 2026 ceremony officially begins.

When the awards launched in 2022, the mission was simple: celebrate creators at a time when many still had to justify content creation as a legitimate career. Four years later, that conversation has changed.

Today, the awards recognise the country’s most influential creators, the brands and agencies investing in the space, and the work that continues to push the industry forward.

“As the creator economy has evolved, so have the awards,” said Manuela Dias de Deus, Founder of the Awards and Founder of One-eyed Jack. “When we launched these awards, we were celebrating brave pioneers who were proving that content creation could be a real career. Today we’re recognising world-class creators who are building businesses, influencing culture, driving commerce and setting global standards. Our responsibility has shifted from legitimising the industry to raising the benchmark for excellence. This is no longer about recognising creators for what’s possible. It’s about celebrating those who are setting the standard for the future of marketing, entertainment and entrepreneurship in South Africa.”

This year’s awards feature 20 categories, all refined to better reflect today’s creator landscape. Entry criteria have become more rigorous, with judging criteria developed in collaboration with the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB South Africa) to ensure greater consistency, credibility and industry alignment.

An exciting new category, the #CapturedWithGalaxy Award, was also announced at the launch and remains open for entries, giving creators one final opportunity to be recognised before entries officially close.

Open to creators of all niches, the category celebrates exceptional content captured on any type of Samsung Galaxy device. The winner will receive a Content Creator Award trophy, as well as a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 valued at approximately R40,999.

Entries close on 20 September.

Samsung Galaxy Announced As Headline Sponsor

Samsung Galaxy was officially unveiled as title sponsor, signalling the growing confidence major brands have in South Africa’s creator economy.

“We’re incredibly proud to partner with the Content Creator Awards,” said Rae Hargreaves, Head of Marketing: Mobile eXperience at Samsung South Africa. “Creators are shaping culture, influencing purchasing decisions and redefining storytelling every single day. Samsung Galaxy exists to give creators the technology they need to tell those stories, and we’re excited to celebrate the incredible talent driving South Africa’s creator economy.”

The Awards Night

The winners will be announced at a spectacular gala evening on 17 October 2026 in Sandton.

Tickets for the awards are now available at https://www.quicket.co.za/events/391220-content-creator-awards-sponsored-by-samsung/#/.

Press Launch Highlights

The launch itself, hosted by Lesego Tlabi (Coconut Kelz), demonstrated the extraordinary momentum behind the awards, drawing one of the largest industry gatherings in the programme’s history.

London, a city of rich heritage and innovation, set the stage for Galaxy Unpacked July 2026, as Samsung Electronics unveiled its latest foldables — Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8.

Combining refined hardware with powerful AI capabilities, the new Galaxy Z series delivers an advanced camera experience across professional-quality landscapes, dynamic video, and expressive selfies.

Fresh from Galaxy Unpacked July 2026, Samsung Newsroom took all three devices across London to put their cameras to the test.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: Brilliant Detail, Day and Night

The journey began in Westminster. The Palace of Westminster, with Big Ben rising above it, sits along the River Thames, while the London Eye stands across the water on the South Bank — a view that brings together London’s past and present.

Shot with Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Big Ben and the surrounding cityscape came through in crisp detail.

▲ (From top to bottom) Photo taken with Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and a cropped zoom of Big Ben enlarged by more than 10x

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra’s 200MP main camera brings distant subjects into sharp focus. A new high dynamic range (HDR) capability in 200MP mode delivers richer colors and finer detail. Zooming in reveals Big Ben’s intricate stonework and even the Latin inscription beneath the clock face, demonstrating Ultra-level clarity down to the smallest details.

▲ Photo taken with the 200MP camera from the London Eye on Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra

At 135 meters tall, the London Eye is difficult to fit into a single frame from up close. The Galaxy Z Fold series’ first 50MP ultra-wide camera makes it possible to capture the towering landmark, ticket office, and nearby visitors in a single shot.

▲ (From left) Photos taken with the 1x camera and 50MP ultra-wide camera on Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra

After sunset, London took on a different character. At Tower Bridge, enhanced Nightography reduced noise in low light while preserving the illuminated bridge and texture of the flowing river in vivid detail.

▲ Tower Bridge captured with enhanced Nightography

Galaxy Z Fold8: Ready for Moments in Motion

Some travel moments are worth seeing from both sides of the camera. As Tower Bridge slowly lifted, Dual Recording captured the bridge in motion and the reactions of those watching in a single video.

▲ Dual Recording

Dual Recording uses the rear and front cameras simultaneously, with real-time previews on the expansive main display for easy framing. The two perspectives are combined into a single split-screen video, making the feature ideal for vlog-style content that captures both the moment and the reaction.

https://img.global.news.samsung.com/za/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Samsung-Mobile-Galaxy-Unpacked-J.mp4

Away from the busy tourist hotspots, the journey continued to St. James’s Park. Filming one of the park’s resident pelicans proved challenging, as it moved quickly across the frame. For fast-moving action like this, Super Steady came in handy.

These days, content is king, meaning that having a smartphone camera that can keep up is no longer a luxury; it’s essential. With the Galaxy S26, Samsung continues to push the boundaries of mobile photography and videography with innovative camera technology designed to help users capture life’s best moments with exceptional clarity and stability.

Samsung has long been recognised for redefining what smartphone cameras can achieve, continually introducing innovations that make advanced photography and videography accessible to more users. The Galaxy S26 series continues this tradition by combining powerful camera hardware[1] with artificial intelligence (AI)-driven enhancements that help users capture stunning results regardless of their experience level[2].

Among the standout camera innovations available on both the Galaxy S26 is Super Steady[3]s Video with Horizontal Lock, an intelligent feature that combines advanced AI processing with the ultra-wide camera lens to deliver remarkably smooth and stable video footage, even when conditions are less than ideal.

Whether you’re filming while walking through a busy street, documenting an outdoor adventure, capturing a kiddies’ party, or recording a memorable family vacation, Super Steady Video works behind the scenes to minimise unwanted shake and movement, helping users create professional-looking videos with ease.

Stability Built for the Way We Create Today

The rise of social media, vlogging, livestreaming, and short-form video content has transformed how people capture and share their experiences. Content creators are increasingly looking for tools that can deliver professional-quality results without requiring additional equipment.

With Super Steady Video, Galaxy S26 users can confidently shoot on the move without needing bulky stabilisers. Leveraging AI-powered motion analysis and the expansive view offered by the ultra-wide lens[4], the feature intelligently compensates for movement in real time, helping creators focus on storytelling rather than worrying about shaky footage.

From fitness influencers filming workout content to travel creators documenting their latest adventures, users can record smoother videos that feel polished and cinematic straight from their smartphone.

Keeping Every Frame Perfectly Aligned

Super Steady comes with Horizontal Lock, a feature designed to keep footage level and aligned even when users unintentionally tilt their device while recording.

Anyone who has ever watched a video that slowly drifts off-angle understands how distracting uneven footage can be. Horizontal Lock helps maintain a straight horizon, creating a more professional viewing experience and reducing the need for time-consuming editing afterwards.

Imagine capturing a breathtaking ocean sunset while walking along the shoreline, filming a road trip through winding mountain passes, or recording your child’s first bicycle ride. Horizontal Lock helps ensure the horizon remains balanced and visually appealing, allowing users to focus on enjoying the moment while the Galaxy S26 handles the technical details.

For content creators, this means more consistent footage and greater creative confidence. For everyday users, it means vacation videos, family memories, and spontaneous moments look polished enough to share instantly with friends and loved ones.

Winter brings more than just the chills. It often sparks the all-too-familiar home ritual of the thermostat tug-of-war. Whether it’s a frosty morning or a warmer evening or somewhere in between, Samsung air conditioners assist in ensuring that comfort never becomes a compromise by providing reliable heating, creating a cozy environment for the whole family.

With smart technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven features, and seamless connectivity through Samsung SmartThings [1] , Samsung Air Conditioners introduce a new kind of winter comfort. One that quietly balances varying preferences in the home, without the daily negotiation, because comfort should be designed.

Samsung air conditioners are designed to bring year-round comfort, providing warmth and relaxation for the whole family. Enriching the experience is the SmartThings app, which lets users control their home temperature remotely. Whether it’s warming the house before the school run ends, on the home commute, or fine-tuning comfort without leaving the bed, the system helps remove the small frictions that add up over winter.

Warmth That Moves Through Your Space

Samsung WindFree [2] technology transforms how warmth travels through a space. Instead of creating pockets of heat and cold, it distributes air evenly, wrapping the room in warm comfort.

There’s no longer a “prime spot” on the couch. No more moving between rooms in search of the perfect temperature. From the living room to the home office corner, warmth settles in, reaching every room without overwhelming the space.

Smart Motion Detect Sensor

Winter comfort should feel intuitive, and with motion detection technology[3] , Samsung WindFree systems respond to presence in real time.

Rooms that are empty are not unnecessarily heated, until someone enters. It’s a subtle choreography between movement and temperature, helping users reduce energy consumption while keeping the experience seamless. The house begins to feel less like a system to manage and more like an environment that understands.

AI Comfort Zones for Everyday Life

Every household is a mixture of preferences. Parents may prefer a warmer bedroom, while teens lean toward cooler sleeping conditions. Shared spaces demand balance, while private spaces call for individuality.

Samsung’s AI-powered comfort zones learn these patterns over time. The system quietly builds a map of preferences, adjusting temperatures across rooms to suit different needs without constant input. The lounge remains cosy for family time, while bedrooms adapt to individual comfort, thus taking away the need to constantly adjust, negotiate, or compromise.

More than just heating, Samsung’s air conditioners are about removing friction from everyday living. It is about turning a shared space into a balanced one, where comfort is consistent, effortless, and inclusive.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has announced the global launch of The Frame (HL03H model[1]) at HITEC 2026 – one of the largest and longest-running

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has announced the global launch of The Frame (HL03H model[1]) at HITEC 2026 – one of the largest and longest-running international hospitality technology events, held from June 15-18 at the Henry B. González Convention Centre in San Antonio, Texas.

Designed for hotels and premium commercial spaces, the new Art TV will be part of Samsung’s hospitality TV line-up. It serves as both an innovative display and a design feature, adding artwork, entertainment and connected hotel services to guest rooms and shared spaces.

With The Frame for hotels, Samsung is bringing one of its most distinctive TV experiences to hospitality businesses. Samsung will continue to invest in hospitality display solutions that help brands deliver premium service, strengthen their brand identity and prepare for the next phase of connected guest experiences, as noted by Executive Vice President of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics.

A Hospitality Display Designed for Stylish Spaces

With this hospitality model, Samsung brings the design and functionality of The Frame to hotels and corporate environments. The display combines 4K QLED picture quality with a refined form that fits naturally into premium interiors. Its Anti-Glare panel reduces unwanted reflections, while the Slim Fit Wall Mount allows the TV to sit close to the wall for a clean, gallery-like installation.

The Frame eliminates the need for a separate One Connect Box by integrating key connection components into the display, supporting simpler installation in hospitality spaces. Optional magnetic bezels allow hotel operators to customise the frame to match the mood and design of each space, as well[2] .

Collection Hub gives The Frame its distinct value as an Art TV for hospitality environments, allowing hotel operators to display selected artwork, photography or brand visuals when the TV is not in active use. Generative Wallpaper allows guests the opportunity to create AI-generated backgrounds for the screen – adding a customised touch to their room experience. Together, these features help each display become part of the room’s design, whether presenting hotel-curated visuals or AI-generated imagery selected by guests.

As Samsung’s most premium hospitality TV offering, The Frame for hotels is the first model in Samsung’s hotel TV line-up to support Generative Wallpaper and Live Translate. Live Translate helps international travellers comfortably watch local broadcasts or Samsung TV Plus with subtitles in their preferred language. The result is more accessible local content for users traveling overseas[3] .

Beginning with Samsung’s 2025 hotel TV line-up and extending to the HL03H model, Google Cast and Apple AirPlay support allows guests to share content from a smartphone or tablet to the in-room TV by scanning an on-screen QR code. No separate login is required and device connection information is automatically deleted upon checkout to help protect guest privacy[4] .

Managing Hospitality Features From One Platform

LYNK Cloud, Samsung’s comprehensive hospitality cloud solution, helps hotel teams monitor TV status in real time, update on-screen services and distribute guest-facing content across connected displays from a central platform[5] . With the support of LYNK Cloud, guests can access digital concierge features, book hotel services and order room service through the in-room TV. This gives hotels another way to connect guests with property services directly from the display.

LYNK Cloud also includes Business Intelligence, a feature that helps hotel teams understand how guests use in-room TV services, including frequently ordered menu items or popular TV channels. These insights can support more relevant offerings and help identify new revenue opportunities.

Furthermore, LYNK Cloud supports Collection Hub management on hospitality model of The Frame. With it, hotel teams can distribute selected art content across connected devices simultaneously. They can adjust brightness and colour tone based on indoor lighting conditions – as well as help each display to fit the hotel’s brand concept and room environment.

Availability

Samsung will showcase The Frame for hotels at booth 2442 during HITEC 2026. The new model will be available in 43-, 55-, 65- and 75-inch sizes, with global roll-out beginning in the second half of 2026[6] .

Samsung Electronics recently celebrated a successful collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), bringing together more than 100 young African innovators from various parts of the continent who participated in a co-created Mobile Circularity Hackathon that took place in Accra, Ghana from 23 – 25 June 2026.

Lefa Makgato, CSR Manager for Samsung South Africa, was one of the judges at the Hackathon, while Andries Venter, Africa Customer Service Network and Operations Lead – played a crucial role in delivering the masterclass and contributed to the judging process. This event took place during the 6th African Youth SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Summit where a group of enthusiastic young African innovators came together to tackle mobile e-waste, with the ultimate goal of developing practical solutions for repairing, reusing and recycling discarded mobile phones.

During this Mobile Circularity Hackathon, Samsung experts, including Venter, guided the selected group of young African innovators through the lifecycle of a mobile device, from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal. The Mobile Circularity Hackathon forms part of Samsung’s long-term global partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), established in 2019 and set to continue through to 2030.

The Hackathon also aligns with Samsung’s Environmental Strategy, in which the Circular Economy is a key pillar. Through this strategy, Samsung is committed to addressing mobile e-waste, promoting sustainable product design and advancing resource circularity. Targeting mainly young African innovators, tech entrepreneurs and university students aged 20 – 35; the participating Hackathon teams collaborated using real community data to develop circular economy solutions. Following the event, the UNDP Ghana and Samsung committed to providing continued support to the winning teams, helping them scale their concepts into viable businesses.

The Mobile Circularity Hackathon aims to transform Africa’s growing mobile e-waste challenge into a significant socio-economic and environmental opportunity. An estimated 10 billion dormant or unused mobile phones are currently stored away worldwide1, locking up valuable raw materials and contributing to the growing challenge of electronic waste1. Rather than viewing discarded mobile devices solely as environmental hazards – this initiative repositions them as valuable resources that can drive economic growth, promote resource circularity and support environmental sustainability.

The programme also recognises the substantial economic potential of the circular economy. The project’s participating beneficiaries were drawn from various parts of the African continent, specifically leveraging the UNDP’s Regional University Innovation Pods (UniPods) Network and the attendee base of the African Youth SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Summit, which is Africa’s largest youth forum on sustainable development.

While applications were continent-wide, key representations and target hubs included:

West Africa: Ghana (as the host nation) and Sierra Leone

East Africa: Innovators linked to regional tech hubs and academic networks.

Southern Africa: Youth networks and summit delegates travelling from countries like Zambia and Zimbabwe.

At the end of the Hackathon, a total of 127 young finalists were selected and split into 20 teams that received a direct masterclass training and mentorship from Samsung. The top-performing teams also gained seed validation and tracking support through the UNDP timbuktoo initiative.

The technical support from UNDP through the UNDP UniPod initiative was there to ensure that the three winning ideas that were selected, were able to itinerate and scale projects in their respective countries. And, the winning teams included the following:

Diamond Winners: E-waste Marshall. The team proposed a concept to bridge Information and Communications Technology (ICT) e-waste from corporate institutions in Ghana to local and international recyclers – helping to strengthen compliance with Ghana’s Hazardous and Electronic Waste Control and Management Act (Act 917). By combining responsible e-waste collection with public awareness, the solution aims to advance a more sustainable and circular approach to electronic waste management. Team members: Janice Ama Dede Adjei (Ghana), Isaac Selasi Ahadzi (Ghana), John Howard Wealth (Ghana), Blessing Kukwang Dayam (Ghana), Ernest Emekor Duho (Ghana), Patrice Cossi (Benin), Edna Beverla (Ghana).

Gold Winners: E-cycle Connect. The team proposed a digital marketplace designed to connect consumers, e-waste collectors, and certified recyclers to make e-waste management more accessible, transparent and responsible. Their concept would enable consumers to schedule pick-ups or locate nearby drop-off points, while creating fairer market access for collectors through direct connections with certified recyclers. By strengthening the e-waste value chain, the solution aims to support livelihoods and advance Africa’s mobile circular economy. Team members: Jean-Marie Akiwele Nabare (Ghana), Nana Nyama Danso (Ghana), Anuforo Goodluck Eziokwu (Nigeria), Rabiatu Yakubu (Ghana), Ayittah Lawrence Amanor (Ghana), Kackah Ushahemba Alex (Nigeria), Simon M Kiambati (Kenya).

Silver Winners: Nkabom Innovators. The team proposed a concept to intercept domestic electronic waste within local communities through an incentivised, low-tech collection model. The solution aims to transform recovered materials into commercial products while repurposing power components to support localised clean-energy solutions, advancing a more circular approach to e-waste management. Team members: Ophelia Adubofour (Ghana), Wendy Akushika Dogbegah (Ghana), Noah Johnson Ananga (Ghana), Bella Cisse (Mali), Seidu Inusah Jaminja (Ghana).

This strategic partnership between Samsung and the UNDP has now evolved to include a focus on community-led experimentation, transitioning from primarily global awareness and advocacy toward locally rooted solutions. Through this approach, the collaboration supports youth innovation, entrepreneurship and the development of solutions that contribute to sustainable development.

Samsung brings technological expertise, engineering capabilities, commercial insights, funding and technical mentorship to the partnership. The UNDP – on the other hand – provides valuable community data and a development framework, including access to its network of UniPods – a group of academic technology incubators operating across multiple African countries.

Both partners recognise youth education as an important element of sustainable development. Through the partnership, young innovators gain access to knowledge, skills development and mentorship, while also having opportunities to participate in conversations and decision-making on global sustainability issues.
On 23 July 2026, Samsung in collaboration with Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct hosted a graduation ceremony for the 6th Cohort of the Software

On 23 July 2026, Samsung in collaboration with Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct hosted a graduation ceremony for the 6th Cohort of the Software Development (SWD) Programme; in celebration of the successful completion and the measurable impact that this ICT training has had on the lives of the participating students.

Distinguished guests that were invited to this significant event included the Head of Samsung Corporate Marketing & Public Affairs, Samsung EEIP & B-BBEE Manager, the CEO of Tshimologong Digital Precinct as well as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits). This graduation ceremony is a demonstration of the tangible outcomes of this SWD programme which include the skills acquired by graduates, innovative projects completed and the partners’ contributions to the tech space.

Samsung in conjunction with Tshimologong have in the last few years identified that one of the challenges faced by ICT graduates is the struggle to find jobs in software development. The reason for this situation is that the ICT industry’s job seekers are generally required to have at least two (2) to four (4) years’ relevant experience to be able to secure employment.

In reality though, when interns work in industry under real-world pressure, they are at the mercy of those who have the time and willingness to mentor, therefore, it takes longer to gain the necessary expertise. To address this challenge, Samsung has since 2020 been sponsoring a 12-month internship programme in partnership with Tshimologong. This ICT training is part of Samsung’s already succesful R280-million worth Equity Equivalent Investment Programme (EEIP), launched in 2019.

And, with Samsung’s extensive investment into this SWD programme – the parties involved are pleased to see that this partnership has consistently yielded excellent results over the past seven years. The partners have also indicated that there was an excellent attendance and participation rate over the last 12 months.

According to Tshimologong’s reports, about 71 students from cohort 1 – 5 had completed the programme and in this current group – cohort 6, Samsung sponsored 18 students; making the total number of students whose lives have been changed by this programme, 89. Importantly, with the help of employment partners – the total absorption rate from cohort 1 – 6 is 79 % , considering cohort 6 completed at the end of June 2026.

Mark Harris, CEO, Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct said: “Our partnership with Samsung is fundamentally rooted in developing high-end digital skills that create tangible opportunities for unemployed youth. In a market where even graduates with degrees and diplomas struggle to find employment, this programme bridges the critical gap between academic theory and industry readiness.

What makes this programme particularly relevant today is how it has evolved to reflect the profound transformation that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is bringing to software engineering. AI is no longer a peripheral tool — it is reshaping how software is designed, written, tested and deployed.”

Harris added further and said: “We place enormous importance on ensuring that our graduates are not only proficient in core development skills, but are equally fluent in AI-assisted development, automation and the new ways of working that define the modern tech industry. In doing so, we are not simply preparing them for the jobs of today — we are positioning them to embrace and lead in the future of work in an increasingly competitive and rapidly evolving space.

Monitoring the progress of our alumni post-programme, it’s incredibly exciting to see how they have rapidly advanced their careers, with some even emerging as successful tech entrepreneurs. This multi-year initiative is a testament to the power of delivering true, measurable impact — moving beyond mere training to actively improving economic and job opportunities for South Africa’s youth. Wits Tshimologong is immensely proud to partner with Samsung in delivering this transformative programme.”

In this year’s Tshimologong digital programme, Samsung’s investment has provided this group of ICT students with access to resources such as software engineers, mentors, world-class training and stipends. The 18 selected, African interns comprising nine (9) women and nine (9) males with an IT tertiary qualification – have had an opportunity to work with a senior developer to grow their skills. And, the sole responsibility of the senior developer was to focus – on a full-time basis – on the growth of the interns by providing the right mentorship and guiding them on real-world projects.

Nicky Beukes, Samsung EEIP Project Manager added: “As Samsung, we are delighted to see another group of young and enthusiastic graduates successfully completing this ICT training. Over the years, our approach to ICT education and training has consistently ensured that the graduates from this SWD programme are well-prepared for real-world challenges. This is because, we are convinced that this preparedness directly benefits local entrepreneurship ecosystems and technical job markets. All the effort put into this programme provides us with a group of Samsung alumni graduates that now have a competitive advantage in the broader technology industry.”

The interns were subjected to high intensity and fast-paced learning over the 12-months and obtained market-relevant experience which make them suitably qualified to enter the job market. The outcome of this internship programme is to ensure a portfolio of practical experience to improve employability. Over the years, there has been a clear indication that the majority of students follow the formal employment route and entrepreneurship is the exception. Samsung’s partnership with Tshimologong is all about developing the tech start-ups of tomorrow but also about growing quality software development skills for South Africa.

During this one-year programme, these graduating students worked in teams and had an opportunity to produce various team projects that included finding a solution to a societal problem through digital innovation. The much needed experience that this group acquired in this programme; has made them excited about the prospects of embarking on the next chapter of their lives – one filled with imminent possibilities of securing employment, earning a living and supporting their families.

Since inception, the role of each of the partners had been clearly defined and this, has contributed immensely to the consistent success of the programme. Tshimologong continues to provide the expertise and the know-how of a senior developer to grow the students’ skills. It’s role also includes the provision of mentorship and guiding of students to tackle real-world problems. This market relevant and skills-driven programme prepares students by guiding them through the process of ensuring that they are ready for the workplace. Together, Samsung and Tshimologong also provide a network of employment partners.

“As Samsung, we remain committed to providing sustained investment and ensuring that significant opportunities are created through such programmes. Samsung’s collaborative effort with institutions of higher education such as Tshimologong are not only there to ensure the successful completion of ICT trainings. Mainly, these partnerships seek to enhance employment prospects that will help in addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by the country’s youth and their respective communities,” concludes Beukes.

At Galaxy Unpacked July 2026 in London, Samsung Electronics unveiled the eighth-generation Galaxy Z series. Combining agentic AI that understands users with hardware tailored to different lifestyles, the line-up offers three distinct foldable experiences.

Samsung Newsroom got an early look at the new devices during Galaxy Unpacked July 2026 — from Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, the first Ultra model in the Galaxy foldable portfolio to Galaxy Z Fold8 with its all-new form factor and Galaxy Z Flip8 with more intuitive AI on FlexWindow.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: The Ultra Experience on a Foldable Display

Within the Galaxy line-up, the “Ultra” name represents Samsung’s highest level of performance and user experience. As the first Ultra model in the Galaxy Z series, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra pairs ultra-level performance with an expansive foldable display to elevate productivity through AI-powered multi-tasking.

The first thing that stands out is how thin the device is. Unfolding it reveals a spacious 8-inch main display. Measuring 4.1 millimetres thick when unfolded and weighing only 215 grams, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the thinnest Galaxy Z Fold yet; making it comfortable to carry and use throughout the day.

The display has also been refined to deliver smoother, more comfortable folding. The folding magnets, hinge mechanism and display tension have been precisely optimised, while refinements to the edge design make the device easier to unfold. Samsung’s proprietary Flex Titanium technology helps minimise the display crease while enhancing durability.

The expansive display also unlocks enhanced AI experiences. Gemini Notebook streamlines the process of organising meeting materials and notes. Users can now upload a PDF of meeting minutes or an audio recording of a presentation to generate a summary of the key points, then transform the same source material into a variety of formats — including AI-generated videos, presentation slides, podcasts and quizzes.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra truly shines in AI-powered multi-tasking. Agentic AI anticipates when multi-tasking is needed, using Now Nudge to open Multi Window at the right moment. For example, Now Nudge can suggest adding dinner plans from a messaging app to the calendar and open the Calendar app in Multi Window.

Qualcomm Snapdragon® 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy and a 5,000mAh battery support Galaxy AI experiences and seamless multi-tasking on the expansive display.

Galaxy Z Fold8: A Foldable, Re-imagined

Redesigned with an all-new form factor, Galaxy Z Fold8 introduces an aspect ratio optimised for a wide range of content.

Unfolding the device expands the display to a 4:3 aspect ratio, ideal for watching movies or playing games. Rotating the device switches to a 3:4 aspect ratio that feels more natural for reading e-books or browsing the web. The cover screen’s 10:16 aspect ratio also provides a familiar experience for browsing short-form content.

A 4,800mAh battery supports more than 26 hours of video playback. Weighing just 201 grams, Galaxy Z Fold8 is the lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet and remains comfortable to hold — even during extended viewing sessions.

Video to be inserted here

Galaxy Z Fold8 goes beyond content consumption with tools for creating and editing. Galaxy AI-powered My FanCam makes it easy to create videos focused on a specific person. After selecting a video in the Gallery app, users can launch My FanCam and choose the subject to follow. The video is then automatically reframed around the selected subject.

The device also delivers a more advanced agentic AI experience. For example, if a user shares a photo of the Eiffel Tower with Gemini and asks it to book a nearby hotel, the AI agent finds accommodations that match the specified criteria — even while they continue using other apps. Afterward, they can simply review the recommendations and approve only the actions that require confirmation – saving time and effort.

Galaxy Z Flip8: More Without Unfolding

Galaxy Z Flip8 makes a strong first impression with its thin, lightweight design. Measuring 6.1 millimetres thick when unfolded and weighing only 180 grams, it offers excellent portability. A stronger frame and a more durable hinge made with a new high-strength material improve durability while maintaining the device’s slim profile.

One of Galaxy Z Flip8’s biggest upgrades is its more versatile FlexWindow. Users can check important information and access their favourite features without unfolding the device. Another highlight is Galaxy AI’s Now Brief. From FlexWindow, users can instantly see the day’s weather, schedule and important notifications. Everyday information such as exchange rates and stock updates is organised into personalised cards, making it easy to stay on top of the day.

App functionality also extends to FlexWindow. Without unfolding the device, users can browse photos in the Gallery app, chat with friends through messaging apps and quickly complete tasks. More than a hub for notifications and widgets, FlexWindow has evolved into a gateway to more of what Galaxy has to offer.

The camera experience has also been refined to better complement the Galaxy Z Flip form factor. Camcorder Grip — exclusive to the Galaxy Z Flip series — enables stable one-handed recording, while Super Steady’s horizontal lock helps keep footage smooth and level, even on the move.

Dual Recording captures both the creator and the subject in the same video, perfect for vlogs and social media challenges. Opening the Camera app displays the creator’s view at the top of the screen and the subject’s view below, allowing both perspectives to be recorded simultaneously.

To power these pro-level sports health features, Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is built with unprecedented hardware performance. It is equipped with a massive 800 mAh battery — a 35% increase in capacity compared to the previous Ultra model. Powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform, it establishes a new benchmark in power, speed and highly accurate GPS tracking for the Ultra line. The expanded display provides the Samsung’s first smartwatch with 5,000 nits of brightness,[viii] making clear visibility possible even under intense sunlight.

Galaxy Watch Ultra2 retains its shock-resistant titanium casing to help ensure rugged durability, while also introducing enhanced comfort and stability for a broader, more diverse range of users. Despite a significantly larger battery, Galaxy Watch Ultra2 achieves an innovative slimmer[ix] design that transitions seamlessly from rugged outdoor and sports activities to everyday lifestyle use. Advanced internal re-engineering significantly reduces the device’s thickness by 12% compared to the previous generation. Coupled with lighter and softer bands that reduce weight, Galaxy Watch Ultra2 delivers continuous wearability, highly precise biometric data tracking and exceptional comfort.

[v] Galaxy Watch Ultra2 has a water resistance rating of 100 metres according to the ISO22810 standard. The test was conducted in 5% salt water and 4 ppm chlorine water. Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is also water resistant with an IPX8 rating based on lab test conditions for submersion in up to 1.5 metres of freshwater for up to 30 minutes and an IPX9K rating based on lab test conditions for water resistance against powerful water jets. Galaxy Watch Ultra2 has obtained EN13319, which is a standard applicable to instruments measuring water depth by the environmental pressure as used by divers and also the dive time in certain conditions. Water resistance is not a permanent condition and can diminish over time. If device has been exposed to seawater, user should rinse it in freshwater and dry after use. Refer to the user manual for further information, including care/use instructions. Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is dust resistant with an IP6X rating based on lab test conditions by a third party: 2 kg of talc powder (max. diameter of 0.05 mm) per cubic metre was blown into a test chamber housing the device (air pressure within device kept below surrounding air) for 2 hours. Dust resistance may vary by actual usage conditions. Galaxy Watch Ultra2 has obtained MIL-STD-810H Certification: high/low temperature, altitude, humidity, immersion, salt fog, dust, vibration, drop, etc. MIL-STD-810H is a standardised form of testing designed by the U.S. military to accurately assess device limitations. Real-world usage may vary by specific environmental conditions used in the testing. Extreme conditions not guaranteed. Galaxy Watch Ultra2 withstands temperatures ranging from -20°C to 55°C while being worn on the wrist, based on results from internal lab tests conducted by Samsung. Actual performance may vary depending on the environment where it is used. In very high or low temperatures, charging may be blocked, certain functions may be automatically terminated or unavailable, or the watch may shut down automatically for safety. Additionally, battery performance can be adversely affected at low temperatures.
