JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 29 July, 2019 – Winter is here once again and so is the cold and flu season. We suddenly find ourselves reaching for tissues as if they were lifelines. The sneezing, coughing, and runny noses seem to hit everyone and touching elevator buttons or shaking hands seem like unnecessary risks. And with air viruses all around, it is also crucial to keep the air fresh at home. Air-conditioning puts us in control of our comfort and frees us from the discomfort, risk and uncertainty of the weather.

Modern technology has a healthy prescription for better health. Samsung’s Wind-Free air-conditioners have Virus Doctor – ground-breaking technology that helps individuals and families – importantly families with children, who are fragile to airborne allergies.
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, 15 March 2018 – Unregulated thermal comfort can have a detrimental effect on well-being, morale and even mental or physical health,

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, 15 March 2018 – Unregulated thermal comfort can have a detrimental effect on well-being, morale and even mental or physical health, which can impact on productivity in a working environment. [i] The World Health Organisation says that the standard warm temperature for normal, healthy adults who are appropriately dressed should be 18ºC and for those who have respiratory problems or allergies; the temperature should be 16ºC. A minimum of 20ºC should be used for the sick, elderly, disabled or very young. [ii]

Mike van Lier, Director of Consumer Electronics, Samsung South Africa, says, “Innovative technology puts the ‘conditioning’ right into air conditioners. Since the 1920s when movie theatres used their cooler air as a selling point, technology has moved towards creating more than just cooler or warmer air. We’ve moved on to creating healthier indoor environments that refine and condition the air, removing harmful toxins or bacteria. An example of this is the PM2.5 Filter that keeps the air clean by capturing 99% of ultrafine dust in 100 minutes. It also covers 100% of the air inlet, so it completely filters all of the air coming in.”

In addition to clearing the air of impurities, Samsung’s Wind-Free technology uses 21,000 micro-holes to gently spread air evenly throughout the room, maintaining a comfortable temperature, without any unpleasant direct airflow. So, no drafts.

In line with energy saving requirements, Samsung’s world first digital Inverter 8-Pole compressor consumes only 32% of the energy used by conventional air conditioning models, saving 68% of energy usage. It maintains the desired temperature without frequently turning on and off, so it’s much quieter, more durable and efficient. The fast cooling feature cools the air 43% faster, using a triangular architecture to disperse air further and more widely.

“Customer centric innovation lies at the core of our brand promise and this product pivots around this very approach. The new technology is especially designed to cater to consumer’s specific needs and preferences.” concludes van Lier.

Winter and spring are the top runny nose seasons in South Africa thanks to viruses, increased pollen counts and pollution in the air. That’s nearly half

Winter and spring are the top runny nose seasons in South Africa thanks to viruses, increased pollen counts and pollution in the air. That’s nearly half a year of discomfort for hundreds of thousands of South Africans. Combating colds, flu, hayfever and environmental pollutants starts with an investment in an advanced air conditioner.

“Contrary to outmoded popular belief, air conditioners do not increase the chances of catching colds – in fact, advanced technology allows them to effectively filter and purify the air, at the same time as they heat or cool,” says Michael McKechnie, Director: Digital Appliance Group at Samsung South Africa.

“For example, selected Samsung air conditioner models may have the ‘Virus Doctor’ and easy filter technology included, or the accessory may be purchased as an optional feature. This innovative and health-promoting device eliminates up to 99% of airborne bacteria and viruses*, as well as smoke, pollen, dust and other contaminants, keeping the air inside clean and pure.”

Furthermore, air conditioners are not simply cooling devices – advanced new air conditioners can heat a room more effectively, uniformly and affordably than old-fashioned space heaters can, all the while neutralising contaminants in the air.

Unlike the air conditioners of old, advanced new air conditioners are elegant, virtually silent and don’t produce annoying drafts. Modern air conditioners come in a range of stylish floor, wall or ceiling-mounted designs and feature innovations such as a choice of models suited to anything from quick and powerful cooling through to gentle, silent cooling for bed time.

Maintenance, filter cleaning and temperature control have all become infinitely easier in new digital air conditioning units, with some models even supporting remote control via a mobile app. “Featuring intelligent technology to adjust to the surrounding atmosphere, air conditioners use minimal power to keep your home or office at a constant, comfortable temperature and purify the air – finally living up to the name air conditioner,” McKechnie concludes.

*Virus Doctor and Easy Filter eliminates dust, dangerous airborne contaminants and allergens, as well as bacteria and viruses, including the Influenza A and Corona viruses – firstly using a filter and secondly with Virus Doctor. So it keeps the air you breathe clean and healthy. Tested in Kitasato Environmental Science Centre (Japan) & Yonsei Univ. (Korea) / Korea test lab (FITI / KEMTI) and Japan test lab (ITEA). Effective on 4 viruses, including Subtype H1N1, and certain bacteria. Data has been measured under specific testing conditions and may differ based on environmental factors.

Samsung Electronics South Africa has announced the launch of the new 360 Cassette air conditioning unit with an omni-directional airflow discharge,

Samsung Electronics South Africa has announced the launch of the new 360 Cassette air conditioning unit with an omni-directional airflow discharge, which eradicates cold air drafts and increases cooling speed for a truly premium cooling experience. The ground-breaking bladeless circular design effects even cooling with minimal loss in air flow, setting a new standard for multi-directional Cassette units.

Unlike previous traditional air conditioning units, the cutting-edge design of the bladeless 360 Cassette delivers a zero angle airflow, producing a layer of cold air and increasing air flow by 25 percent. With a temperature deviation of less than 0.6 °C across an area spanning a 9.3 m diameter, the new 360 Cassette from Samsung provides increased power efficiency without producing a cold draft, which delivers an optimal cooling performance.

“At Samsung we are passionate about continuously evolving our products in order to offer the latest technology to our customers,” said Michael McKechnie, Director of Digital Appliances Group at Samsung Electronics SA. “Our focus lies in creating the best experience for our customers which is why we have transformed the conventional four-way Cassette into our innovative circular design to offer unbeatable performance coupled with premium aesthetics.”

Innovative design transforms air flow

The rounded design of the Samsung 360 Cassette creates a circular air wave which consistently controls the temperature of the room by providing an even distribution of air across a full 360 degree direction. The bladeless design of the unit also ensures fast and comfortable cooling without producing a cold draft, by ensuring 100 percent of air volume flow control compared to traditional four-way Cassette units, which can lose up to 25 percent of air volume. This results in a 34 percent increase in cooling speed.

Unique stylish design

The 360 Cassette combines revolutionary performance with an elegant design, which will blend in and enhance any setting. The unit features a stylish panel and intuitive display that allows users to change the air flow depending on preference. Users can choose from three settings including horizontal, vertical and separate zone control air flow.

Advanced Features

Customers have the option of a wheel dial remote controller with a dedicated button for comfort cooling. The revolutionary Samsung Virus Doctor technology kit can also be added to the unit to create fresh and healthy air by eliminating viruses and neutralising active oxygen radicals that can cause illness.

“Samsung is committed to creating air conditioning solutions that are not only powerful and convenient, ensuring optimum comfort, but also feature beautiful design and aesthetics to cater for the style-conscious consumer. The 360 Cassette is a premium example of our brand ethos of delivering maximum comfort, world-class visual presentation and optimum energy efficiency, in any environment,” concludes McKechnie.
