Where saving energy is our everyday concern, The Frame TV may be better for you.

Your space is a reflection of who you are and how you live and Samsung is here to help you reimagine it in your own unique way. From 20 March to 05 May 2024, Samsung South Africa brings you the Better For [your life] campaign, which is designed to highlight how the company’s diverse range of products serves as an enabler for improving people’s daily experiences. One of the highlight products that is Better For [your life] is The Frame TV which not only brings art to your living room décor and entertainment experience but is also Better For [your energy savings].

Imagine a TV that transforms into a beautiful Art Canvas, giving you access to thousands of art pieces from galleries around the world in the comfort of your home. All made possible with the Samsung Art Store[1]. Moreover, this beautiful piece of technology also helps you save energy with its smart AI Energy Mode[2] which is accessible through the SmartThings[3] mobile app for Android and iOS. This comes as good news especially when you consider that electricity costs are rising and availability is made scarce by load shedding in South Africa.

AI Energy Mode helps you monitor the energy consumption of The Frame TV. It achieves this through features like:

Environment adaptive brightness: The screen brightness automatically adjusts based on the lighting in your room. So, on a bright day, the TV won’t be blasting unnecessary brightness, and at night, you won’t need harsh light for a clear picture.

User adaptable brightness: No more forgetting to turn off the TV! This feature uses advanced motion sensors to detect if no one’s been watching for a while and dims the screen automatically.

Content adaptive brightness: Thanks to machine learning, the TV analyzes what’s on screen. Action-packed scenes might need a bit more brightness, while calmer moments can be displayed with less, all without you having to adjust anything.

Taking energy savings, a step further, when AI Energy Mode tracking is enabled is will unlock a powerful tool: a 3D Visualization Map which can be viewed on the TV set. This innovative map lets you easily check and manage energy consumption for all your SmartThings devices in a clear and visual way. All this can help lower monthly power consumption of The Frame TV.

“We are excited to offer amazing offers on The Frame TV through this campaign. The versatility of Samsung’s products enables our customers to elevate and enhance their lifestyles with convenience, comfort, and stylish innovation,” said Mike van Lier, Vice President of Consumer Electronics at Samsung South Africa. “The Better For [your life] campaign is an exciting way to highlight The Frame TV’s distinct features, which not only revolutionize how we use our screens to consume content but save energy as well.”

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 22 October 2019 – Samsung is unfolding the future with a first-of-its-kind mobile device: The Galaxy Fold. It marks the beginning

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 22 October 2019 – Samsung is unfolding the future with a first-of-its-kind mobile device: The Galaxy Fold. It marks the beginning of a new era in mobile technology, and Samsung has been working alongside partners and the Android developer community to design a new and complete foldable user experience. Efforts to design this software experience for the Galaxy Fold began at the framework level in April 2018. As part of this process, Samsung developed a whole new UX and collaborated closely with Google to provide integrated OS support from Android.

“We didn’t just build new category-defining hardware, we worked with major partners to design and deliver a brand-new mobile experience and foster an ecosystem that gives users access to the best applications and services,” said Justin Hume, Director: Integrated Mobility at Samsung South Africa. “This is software innovation that incorporates both an immersive UX and a new UI perspective to provide a seamless experience.”

Since the introduction of the Infinity Flex Display at SDC 2018, Samsung and Google set up test labs in cities across the globe – from Seoul to Mountain View to Beijing – to work with and encourage partners and developers to test and verify that their apps and services are optimised for the Galaxy Fold and the Android ecosystem. Alongside this effort, Google introduced changes in Android 10 to offer improved resisable activity, multi-resume functionality and an updated Android Emulator to help support multiple-display type switching – opening the door to future foldable device optimisation. Now, select applications that Android users know and love have been updated to deliver an immersive, foldable experience on the Galaxy Fold.

“Together with ecosystem partners like Samsung, we have the opportunity to deliver an entirely new user experience that could transform the way we use our smartphones. We enjoyed working closely with the Samsung team and the Android developer community to ensure the users of the Galaxy Fold have the best experiences with their favourite apps and services,” said Sagar Kamdar, Director of Product Management for Android at Google.

Hundreds of apps have been optimised for the Galaxy Fold, including services from leading partners like Amazon Prime Video, App in the Air, Facebook, iHeartMedia, Microsoft, Spotify, Twitter, VSCO and more*.

“We are excited to work with Samsung to bring Prime members their favourite shows, movies and live sports on the Galaxy Fold,” said BA Winston, Global Head of Digital Video Playback and Technology at Amazon Prime Video. “Bringing the Prime Video app to the Galaxy Fold will give customers a new way to experience Amazon Originals like Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and The Marvelous Mrs Maisel with Multi Window and Multi Resume.”

“App in the Air makes the travel process seamless and efficient, and by partnering with the Samsung Galaxy Fold we are demonstrating our commitment to expanding this technology through cutting-edge mediums, reaching our shared audiences of innovators, creators, and entrepreneurs,” said Bayram Annakov, CEO, App in the Air. “Our collaboration with Samsung is helping to build a more expansive ecosystem of services for our dedicated users – and we’re thrilled to begin this partnership with such an esteemed brand.”

“We’re excited to expand our long-standing partnership with Samsung by supporting their work to develop innovative experiences for consumers,” said Marc Shedroff, Vice President, Business Development, Facebook. “The new Samsung Galaxy Fold has the potential to usher in a new era of design, and it will be exciting to see what new use cases a foldable experience will unlock for users.”

“As the latest example of our continued commitment to joint-innovation with Samsung, we are excited to be a Galaxy Fold launch partner,” said Michele Laven, President of Strategic Partnerships Group for iHeartMedia. “With the multi-active window feature, iHeartRadio users will now be able to seamlessly navigate through their listening experience without having to ever switch between apps. This also aligns with our goal of providing a frictionless audio playback experience for your favourite live radio stations, podcasts and custom Artist Radio stations.”

“Office 365 is built to help people maximise their time while creating their best work – no matter where they are or which device they’re using,” said Jon Tinter, CVP of Business Development, Microsoft. “We’re excited to extend the Office experience to the Samsung Galaxy Fold, and help people transform their personal productivity.”

“We are proud to continue our Samsung partnership with the new Galaxy Fold,” said Sten Garmark,
VP of Consumer Products, Spotify. “The Fold will take mobile productivity to new heights and enable a more seamless Spotify listening experience for our users. Simply open the preloaded Spotify app to connect and listen across the Samsung ecosystem. Finding your favourite Spotify playlist favourites like Discover Weekly, or Podcasts such as Jemele Hill’s Unbothered, just got even easier!”

“We are excited to continue our partnership with Samsung and expand the Twitter experience to the Samsung Galaxy Fold. We are looking forward to seeing how people on Twitter engage with this foldable experience and its evolution over time,” said Brent Horowitz, Vice President, Global Product Partnerships at Twitter.

“Our mission at VSCO is to help everyone fall in love with their own creativity and to build tools and spaces to help achieve this. We’re excited to continue our collaboration with Samsung to build deeper, more expansive experiences for creators everywhere,” said Bryan Mason, Chief Business Officer at VSCO.

With features like seamless App Continuity and Multi-Active Window, you can browse, watch, connect and multitask like never before. With Galaxy Fold, you can switch seamlessly from the cover display to the main display and you can run multiple apps simultaneously, on the Galaxy Fold’s 7.3-inch main display, revolutionising the way you work and play on the go. These top applications and services and many more are now available in the Android ecosystem for the Galaxy Fold in the Google Play Store and Galaxy Store.

Can you even imagine your life without your smart phone? It hasn’t taken long for these must-have devices to become an essential and integral part of daily life. It’s estimated that as much as 58.7% of the world use smartphones.[i] But how have they changed the way we do things?

Well, just 10 years ago, most people couldn’t conceive having an actual conversation with a mobile device. Now it’s common to have an intricate chat with your very own built-in personal assistant, like Bixby. From getting directions and restaurant recommendations to dictating e-mails or ordering flowers online for your mom, smartphones and their assistants can do just about anything.

Today most people simply can’t imagine life without one – smartphones have evolved to such an extent that they’ve moved way beyond mere communication to being a constant companion that’s geared to learn your unique needs and make your life easier to navigate. The millions of apps that can be downloaded and used can help you track your health, control your connected appliances, give you directions, remind you of appointment and even edit videos or build websites.

Doing business on a mobile device has gone beyond sitting in a coffee shop making endless phone calls. E-mails, internet research, design and invoicing are all now possible. Capturing images and videos on the go has never been easier and in-built security features like Knox make it entirely safe to conduct business wherever you are. When it comes to education, learners not only have access to the internet, but also to the world’s best teachers and experts, through their devices.

According to a survey almost half of Smartphone users use their phone for access health related services.[ii] Whether its to use an app to monitor glucose levels or verify a prescription, a fitness tracker or healthy recipe finder, smartphones have impacted the way people interact with their own health and wellness.

Social media accounts for almost two hours each day, with the top apps being YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter.[iii]

In 2012, editor of the website The Next Web, catalogued devices that were made obsolete by smartphone. His list included MP3 players, point-and-shoot digital cameras, GPS, alarm clocks, flashlights, handheld gaming systems, e-readers, voice recorders, dictionaries, infrared remotes and web-conferencing devices. This is a lot longer now.

A recent British poll indicated that using a smartphone to make phone calls doesn’t even reach the top 10 reasons for owning one. The majority of people cited the following regarding their smartphone use: texting – 88%; e-mail – 70%, Facebook – 62%, camera – 61%, reading news – 58%, online shopping – 56 per cent, checking the weather – 54%, WhatsApp – 51%, Banking – 45%, watching videos on YouTube – 42%.[iv]

Craige Fleischer, Vice President of Integrated Mobility say, “Most people don’t realise that as early as 2001, Samsung was already building smartphones – the SPH-1300 came out in October that year. And that was just the beginning of the smartphone rise. From the BlackJack line to the Instinct, which were before Android, to the Omnia with TouchWiz and then the current star of the smartphone show – the Galaxy S line.”

Even with all the incredible tech now in the palm of your hand, the evolution of the smartphone is still in its infancy – technological innovation is consistently moving ahead of the curve, with giants like Samsung leading the race to intuitively address user’s future needs and desires.

There may be over a billion smartphones buzzing in pockets around the world, but not one of them is like yours.

Although we choose from a similar range of models, the reality is that every phone is unique to us as individuals. We pour ourselves into them with apps that simplify our lives, as well as our own memories in the form of photos, videos, music and more.

In today’s world, our phones are an extension of ourselves; many of us would be lost without them. Buying a new device sometimes generates a fear of losing cherished moments on an old phone – but that shouldn’t force us to choose between state-of-the-art design or keeping our memories. We need a solution that lets us upgrade while preserving our most important content.

To make these upgrades swift and worry-free, Samsung created Smart Switch. This easy-to-use service allows you to transfer important content from any phone or OS to your new Galaxy S8, S8+ or other Galaxy device.* In other words, Smart Switch ensures all your cherished digital memories carry over to your new phone, so you can focus on making new ones.

Keep the Content that Matters Most

Today, our smartphones double as cameras, entertainment hubs, personal computers and much more. They’re the first thing we reach for in the morning and the last thing we interact with at night – ever-present assistants that, along with streamlining work and daily life, allow us to keep the content that matters most on hand.

The amount of data we depend on our devices to manage throughout the day can make the idea of upgrading to a new device seem daunting. From that impressive meal you made to a beautiful flower in spring, every memory is a vital part of who you are and the risk of losing a single one may be enough to put pause in your decision.

Not with Smart Switch. The mobile and PC app allows you to instantly make your new Galaxy smartphone more convenient and familiar by seamlessly transferring your photos, videos, contacts, music and more.

That means your carefully curated road trip playlist will make the journey, as will your meticulously planned calendar, work contacts, text messages, go-to apps and even those cherished holiday photos with your family. Key moments in your life will be preserved and transferred with ease and without burdening you with the worry of how to make sure they’re safe.

Android for Work, a program that supports enterprise use of Android, along with Samsung’s KNOX mobile enterprise security platform, are now available on new Samsung devices to enhance the security of the mobile enterprise.

“Since people stay connected via their mobile devices, the lines between work and personal lives have blurred. Accommodating work and play on one phone is more than just a trend, it’s a necessity,” says Paulo Ferreira, Director of Enterprise Mobility at Samsung South Africa. According to Ferreira Android provides a leading solution for this through Work Profiles – a dedicated professional space that is separate from a user’s personal account, apps and data. “When this solution is combined with a Samsung device, it is a great offering, as Samsung handsets are protected by Samsung KNOX, a mobile enterprise security platform.”

The combination of Android for Work and Samsung KNOX is particularly useful for companies that have Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) or Corporate-Owned Personally Enabled (COPE) policies, where employees use the same device for personal and work usage. Work data in Android’s Work Profiles allows IT admins to apply policies to prevent data leakage and installation of apps from unknown sources, as well as protecting company data. The Android for Work program provides modern and effective safeguards to protect both the individual and the enterprise.

In order to ensure that the device itself hasn’t been tampered with or that only vendor-approved versions of the operating system (OS) are being run, data protection at the software level is necessary. Software should be sitting on a trusted foundation and this is where Samsung KNOX comes into play.

Samsung KNOX is a defence-grade mobile security platform built into Samsung devices which extends Android’s software level protection by adding hardware level security mechanisms. By simply turning on the handset, one is protected with multiple layers of security from the hardware to the application level. Samsung KNOX monitors and ensures that the mobile device is protected against external attacks, malicious code or applications, as well as deviations from a trusted baseline. In addition, it can detect or protect against rooting (unlocking a device to access the back end of the OS).

Samsung KNOX helps guarantee the integrity of the device and Android for Work benefits from this. In addition, Samsung and Google work closely together to ensure that KNOX and Android for Work updates operate in tandem to stay ahead of emerging threats.

For organisations needing even more control over management and security of mobility, Samsung offers the KNOX Workspace, providing the most comprehensive set of security and management capabilities possible on a mobile device. It has received more government security accreditations and industry awards than any other solution on the market.

Android for Work hardened by KNOX features are now available on Samsung devices with Android OS 6.0 and above, including flagship smartphones.
