Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra’s 200MP main camera brings distant subjects into sharp focus. A new high dynamic range (HDR) capability in 200MP mode delivers richer colors and finer detail. Zooming in reveals Big Ben’s intricate stonework and even the Latin inscription beneath the clock face, demonstrating Ultra-level clarity down to the smallest details.

At 135 meters tall, the London Eye is difficult to fit into a single frame from up close. The Galaxy Z Fold series’ first 50MP ultra-wide camera makes it possible to capture the towering landmark, ticket office, and nearby visitors in a single shot.

After sunset, London took on a different character. At Tower Bridge, enhanced Nightography reduced noise in low light while preserving the illuminated bridge and texture of the flowing river in vivid detail.

Some travel moments are worth seeing from both sides of the camera. As Tower Bridge slowly lifted, Dual Recording captured the bridge in motion and the reactions of those watching in a single video.

Dual Recording uses the rear and front cameras simultaneously, with real-time previews on the expansive main display for easy framing. The two perspectives are combined into a single split-screen video, making the feature ideal for vlog-style content that captures both the moment and the reaction.

Away from the busy tourist hotspots, the journey continued to St. James’s Park. Filming one of the park’s resident pelicans proved challenging, as it moved quickly across the frame. For fast-moving action like this, Super Steady came in handy.

Even as the phone moved sharply from side to side to follow the pelican, Super Steady with Horizontal Lock kept the footage level.

Within the Galaxy line-up, the “Ultra” name represents Samsung’s highest level of performance and user experience. As the first Ultra model in the Galaxy Z series, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra pairs ultra-level performance with an expansive foldable display to elevate productivity through AI-powered multi-tasking.

The first thing that stands out is how thin the device is. Unfolding it reveals a spacious 8-inch main display. Measuring 4.1 millimetres thick when unfolded and weighing only 215 grams, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the thinnest Galaxy Z Fold yet; making it comfortable to carry and use throughout the day.

The display has also been refined to deliver smoother, more comfortable folding. The folding magnets, hinge mechanism and display tension have been precisely optimised, while refinements to the edge design make the device easier to unfold. Samsung’s proprietary Flex Titanium technology helps minimise the display crease while enhancing durability.

The expansive display also unlocks enhanced AI experiences. Gemini Notebook streamlines the process of organising meeting materials and notes. Users can now upload a PDF of meeting minutes or an audio recording of a presentation to generate a summary of the key points, then transform the same source material into a variety of formats — including AI-generated videos, presentation slides, podcasts and quizzes.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra truly shines in AI-powered multi-tasking. Agentic AI anticipates when multi-tasking is needed, using Now Nudge to open Multi Window at the right moment. For example, Now Nudge can suggest adding dinner plans from a messaging app to the calendar and open the Calendar app in Multi Window.

Galaxy Z Fold8: A Foldable, Re-imagined

Redesigned with an all-new form factor, Galaxy Z Fold8 introduces an aspect ratio optimised for a wide range of content.

Unfolding the device expands the display to a 4:3 aspect ratio, ideal for watching movies or playing games. Rotating the device switches to a 3:4 aspect ratio that feels more natural for reading e-books or browsing the web. The cover screen’s 10:16 aspect ratio also provides a familiar experience for browsing short-form content.

A 4,800mAh battery supports more than 26 hours of video playback. Weighing just 201 grams, Galaxy Z Fold8 is the lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet and remains comfortable to hold — even during extended viewing sessions.

Galaxy Z Fold8 goes beyond content consumption with tools for creating and editing. Galaxy AI-powered My FanCam makes it easy to create videos focused on a specific person. After selecting a video in the Gallery app, users can launch My FanCam and choose the subject to follow. The video is then automatically reframed around the selected subject.

The device also delivers a more advanced agentic AI experience. For example, if a user shares a photo of the Eiffel Tower with Gemini and asks it to book a nearby hotel, the AI agent finds accommodations that match the specified criteria — even while they continue using other apps. Afterward, they can simply review the recommendations and approve only the actions that require confirmation – saving time and effort.

Galaxy Z Flip8: More Without Unfolding

Galaxy Z Flip8 makes a strong first impression with its thin, lightweight design. Measuring 6.1 millimetres thick when unfolded and weighing only 180 grams, it offers excellent portability. A stronger frame and a more durable hinge made with a new high-strength material improve durability while maintaining the device’s slim profile.

One of Galaxy Z Flip8’s biggest upgrades is its more versatile FlexWindow. Users can check important information and access their favourite features without unfolding the device. Another highlight is Galaxy AI’s Now Brief. From FlexWindow, users can instantly see the day’s weather, schedule and important notifications. Flex Titanium: Next-Level Viewing

To create a display that provides an immersive viewing experience while maintaining its ability to withstand everyday use, Samsung took a new approach to structural design. This required a material strong enough to withstand external shock, flexible enough to endure repeated folding and thin enough to fit within a refined device structure. Balancing all three factors was essential to advancing foldable displays — and titanium offered the right mix.

Known for its resilience and strength, titanium has been used in some of the most demanding applications, including satellite antennas and the wheels of a Mars rover. While its strength makes titanium a dependable material, it also presents significant engineering challenges when applied to the thin and flexible structure of a foldable display due to its stiffness. Drawing on its expertise, Samsung has integrated titanium into two key components: a titanium-alloy film and a titanium plate.

The titanium-alloy film is a component that supports the display from within, sitting below the OLED panel. Compared with polymer film, it provides 20 times greater mechanical stiffness. A precision rolling process makes the material exceptionally thin — measuring roughly one-third the thickness of an average human hair — enabling a slimmer display panel.

Below this sits a robust titanium plate, a flexible structure that supports the display module from beneath. It allows tighter bonding with the display module by eliminating air gaps between the module and the adhesive on the plate through advanced hole processing technology. This new structure provides more stable support underneath the display when unfolded while retaining the flexibility needed to accommodate repeated folding.

Furthermore, by integrating a high-resolution architecture and next-generation organic materials, the new display delivers ultra-vivid display resolution while reducing power consumption — delivering a dramatic boost in overall power efficiency.

“By introducing sophisticated micro-patterned holes to the folding section of the titanium plate, we have successfully secured flexibility with robust durability,” said Kyung-Jin Yoo, EVP and Head of Mobile Display Product Development Team, Samsung Display. “Combining high-resolution display architecture with new organic materials that maximize power efficiency, we will further strengthen the competitiveness of next-generation Galaxy foldable devices.”

Together, these advancements enable a strong foldable display that maximizes content immersion on a seamless screen and reduces crease visibility — all while keeping it slim. By balancing strength, flexibility and structural stability, Samsung continues to set the bar for foldable displays.

Samsung Newsroom sat down to detail the journey of how this groundbreaking series pioneered a new era of mobile innovation.

Following the ground-breaking launch of the Galaxy Z Fold, which has taken the mobile landscape by storm, Samsung unveiled yet another revolutionary form factor that took the mobile market by storm. Introducing the Galaxy Z Flip: a device that folded effortlessly in half and could stand upright on its own.

With the Galaxy Z Flip, Samsung revolutionised user interaction by introducing Hideaway Hinge. Much like a laptop, the hinge allowed users to open and position their phones at any angle. Users could securely fold, angle and position their devices, saying goodbye to shaky hands and hello to picture-perfect shots — whether they were snapping a hands-free selfie or capturing a moment with friends.

Also, Samsung released Flex mode, which automatically divided the screen into two when the device was folded. By collaborating with various partners, Samsung optimised this cutting-edge interface and enhanced usability. For example, in the camera app, users could preview the viewfinder on the top while adjusting the camera modes or lenses on the bottom. In addition, the phone supported Multi Window, enabling multitasking by simultaneously displaying different content on each screen.

Continuing the legacy of the Galaxy Z Flip, the debut of the Galaxy Z Flip3 took the series’ design and performance to new heights. The expanded Cover Screen was one of the phone’s most notable upgrades, now four times larger than its predecessor. Going beyond its traditional role of displaying the time and date, the device’s Cover Screen was maximised for both self-expression and productivity. Users could unlock their creativity by customising their Cover Screen with images or GIFs and conveniently view up to eight lines of notifications and messages. What’s more, Samsung Pay transformed Cover Screens into wallets — helping users make payments in one simple step.

The Galaxy Z Flip3 also boasted a variety of camera features that elevated the user’s photography experience to capture and share moments hands-free through Flex mode. With the addition of Auto Framing, the camera detected the location and number of people or objects within the frame and automatically adjusted the format accordingly for photos and videos. Suppose a photographer and the subject of a photo wanted to view the preview of a shot at the same time. In that case, all the user needed to do was tap the Dual Preview button at the top right-hand corner of the screen. Furthermore, users never missed a shot while striking a pose with the enhanced Quick Shot.

Not only could the Galaxy Z Flip3 fit nearly anywhere, but it also offered improved^[1] durability and water resistance^[2]. The lightweight exterior was crafted from Armor Aluminum, the strongest material used in Galaxy devices to date, and Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus®, safeguarding users’ smartphones for any condition. A new protective film placed on the main display improved durability by 80% compared to the previous generation.

In 2022, Samsung released the Galaxy Z Flip4, complete with a host of practical features that effortlessly fit into daily routines. For instance, users could experience the convenience of the Flex mode panel^[3] which opened a touchpad that supports a range of gestures at the bottom of their screen. Similar to the cursor of a computer mouse, users could easily control various elements with a swipe of their finger — pausing, rewinding or playing videos without picking up the device. Another feature that increased productivity was the swipe gesture, optimised for multitasking. For example, if users swiped up with two fingers, the screen split into a top and bottom half to open a new app. With the swipe gesture, Galaxy made frequently used features, such as zooming in and out or turning pages, even faster and more convenient.

The Galaxy Z Flip4 also gave users more control than ever over their pictures. By simply pressing the side button twice, users embraced the Galaxy Z Flip4’s Quick Shot feature to capture moments and selfies without opening their phones. Now, they could even start a video on Quick Shot and easily transition to FlexCam without any interruptions. To capture the starry night sky, users could experience the all-new Nightography mode to take out-of-this-world shots, even in the dark — for bright, sharp photos with less image noise

The Galaxy Z Flip4 effortlessly blended high-performance capabilities with a personalised touch, truly reflecting its owner’s style. When the Bespoke Edition launched, there were new opportunities to express individuality — users could choose from a combination of five glass colours, including Yellow, White, Navy, Khaki and Red, and three frame colour options, including Silver, Gold and Black. Users could also enjoy the Galaxy Z Flip4 for even longer than the previous generation, thanks to its 400mAh larger battery^[4].

This year, Samsung released the Galaxy Z Flip5, delivering the most stylish, unique foldable experience yet. Built for self-expression and complete with an innovative design and customisable functions, the prominent feature is the upgraded Flex Window that is 3.78 times larger than its predecessor’s Cover Screen.

Thanks to the larger screen^[5], the Galaxy Z Flip5 offers more usability than ever before. With Flex Window, users can easily check and control Widgets, including the weather, stock market and music, without ever unfolding their phones. To see all Widgets at a glance, simply pinch the screen to activate the Multi Widget View function. The new Flex Window provides the most versatile camera experience on a Samsung Galaxy smartphone to date.
