JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 13 May 2020 – Samsung brings new, innovative features found on its flagship Galaxy S20 series to the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note10

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 13 May 2020 – Samsung brings new, innovative features found on its flagship Galaxy S20 series to the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note10 series through a software update1 starting from March. Users will be able to capture content with the latest Galaxy camera software technology, including Single Take mode. Additionally, users will have access to a variety of software enhancements that make the entire Galaxy experience even more enjoyable.

Let’s explore the Galaxy S20 features on the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note10.

Advanced Photo and Video Experiences

This software update brings select Galaxy S20 photo and video experiences to the Galaxy S10 and Note10 series. With Single Take, stay in the moment while you capture the moment using integrated AI technology. Single Take uses the camera system and AI to capture a number of photos and videos at once and recommends the best shot for you2.

With an improved Night Mode on the Galaxy S10 series, and the addition of Night Hyperlapse on both Galaxy S10 and Note10 series3, you’ll be able to capture even more amazing photos and videos even in low light.

When you’ve captured that perfect image, Custom Filter lets you create your own filter with colours and styles you like from a favourite photo serving as inspiration. This creates a reusable filter that can be applied to future photos when captured.

Single Take available on the Galaxy S10 (left), Single Take in the Gallery on the Galaxy Note10

For the aspiring filmmaker, Pro Video gives you even more control, allowing you to adjust settings like ISO, shutter speed and exposure level. You can also switch between the front and rear cameras while recording video.

Pro Video now available on the Galaxy S10 (left), Shooting video in Pro Video mode on the Galaxy Note10

Intelligent Gallery

This update also brings a variety of gallery features to help you organise your content. Thanks to AI technology, with Clean View enabled, the Gallery app automatically groups together similar shots of the same subject for a more organised gallery4. Users can easily review similar shots and select their favourite to serve as the photo group’s thumbnail. When viewing a photo in the gallery, you can zoom in on an image and press Quick Crop, located at the top left-hand corner, to crop photos to your desired size.

Tap the highlighted icon to group/ungroup gallery images on the Galaxy S10 (left), Clean View after grouping images on the Galaxy Note10

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 20 March 2020 – Growth continues unabated on Samsung Pay, the most widely accepted mobile payment solution in South Africa. Samsung Pay has seen a dramatic uptake in usage reaching the one million transactions mark in August 2019 followed shortly thereafter by the two million transactions milestone in February 2020, clearly indicating its’ growing popularity. The effortlessly simple and secure mobile payment solution has changed the way we pay, with the ability to activate multiple payment cards from our banking partners in one digital wallet. Samsung Pay has partnered with the following major banking institutions including Absa, Standard Bank, FNB, RMB Private Bank, Discovery Bank, Investec and recently Nedbank.

“Samsung Pay has redefined what consumers can expect from a digital wallet,” said Justin Hume, Director: Integrated Mobility at Samsung South Africa. “It has paved the path to mobile payments in the country by providing our customers with a safe and secure service they can use almost anywhere they shop. The impressive growth locally shows that South Africans are joining the other 26 launched countries in proving the value of this intelligent payment solution.”

This secure and simple digital wallet instantly gives Samsung Pay supported Galaxy Phones and Wearables the functionality of bank and loyalty cards, that can be used almost anywhere you can swipe or tap a card. Samsung Knox technology build into your device constantly monitors your phone to keep your information safe. Your card information is encrypted in a separate and secure data vault at all times. Every transaction uses an encrypted digital token for added security, so your actual card number is never used during a transaction. Samsung Pay can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store or Galaxy Store depending on your Galaxy device. Once you load your bank cards and loyalty cards, paying is always just a quick tap away. It’s convenience on the go.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 03 December 2018 – Samsung has announced a fresh software update1 for the Galaxy S10e, S10 and S10+ that introduces more powerful

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 03 December 2018 – Samsung has announced a fresh software update1 for the Galaxy S10e, S10 and S10+ that introduces more powerful Galaxy Note10 features to the flagship line-up. Now, in addition to enjoying the diverse range of Note10 features that were added in the S10’s most recent update, users will be able to access all-new smart multimedia and Wi-Fi functions2 that streamline connections and take content creation to the next level.

Let’s take a closer look at how some of the Note10’s innovative and convenient features work on the Galaxy S10.

Enjoy Enriching Multimedia Experiences and Seamless Connectivity

The latest Galaxy S10 software update brings a more streamlined and seamless user experience to the device. The Gallery allows you to find your favourite photos quickly by refining searches with keywords.

Gallery Improvement

Discovering new songs, movies or TV shows is also easier with the improved device search, which brings up content recommendations from multimedia streaming apps. With the addition of Media & Devices to Quick Panel, you can easily control your multimedia experience across devices with just the Galaxy S10.

Media and Devices

Auto Hotspot offers an easy solution for transforming your Galaxy S10 into a Wi-Fi hub. After an initial setup, the feature will let the Galaxy S10 establish a hotspot automatically with other Samsung devices if they share the same Samsung account or family account. By offering troubleshooting guides and alerts, Wi-Fi Tips ensures your mobile connection will be stable and secure.

Intelligent Wi-Fi Auto Hotspot

Capture Your Vision

Launched in September, the previous software update brought Note10’s powerful creativity tools to the Galaxy S10. You can now add a personal touch to videos with fun, vibrant drawings – no S Pen required – with the device’s infinitely expressive AR Doodle function. With the camera’s enhanced Super steady video stabilisation, you’ll never have to worry about shaky clips, even when the action heats up. Plus, capture crystal clear selfies after dark with Night Mode on the front camera.

A Pocket-sized Multimedia Suite

Users are already able to edit their favourite clips right on their smartphone thanks to the Galaxy S10’s Video Editor feature, but with the updated Samsung DeX, transforming your clips into dynamic videos is easier than ever before. Simply connect the device to a PC or Mac with a USB cable and you’ll be able to trim, edit, and personalise your clips with precision on Samsung DeX.

1 Update release date may vary by country and carrier.
2 Feature availability may vary by country.
* All examples of feature usability provided in this article are simulations. Actual user experience may vary.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 10 October 2019 – This year Samsung was once again announced as South Africa’s Overall Favourite Brand, at the Sunday Times Top Brands Survey. Accolades such as these, along with Samsung’s relentless pursuit of perfection, has laid a solid foundation for Samsung’s Power of 10 celebration. The celebration will be brought to life at an event at Taboo Nightclub in Sandton, Johannesburg on 10 October 2019.

“The Power of 10 is about giving people the power to do what they can’t. It’s about differentiated, purposeful innovations that enhances South Africans’ lives and make them more connected. This is a celebration of our ongoing commitment to the country through product design to better people’s lives,“ says Cambridge Mokanyane, Chief Marketing Officer at Samsung South Africa.

Samsung has always believed in creating human-driven innovations that defy barriers to progress. This extends all the way from meaningful design, intelligent connections, quality craftsmanship, to projects that uplift communities and creates jobs. From a product perspective, Samsung continues to pioneer new innovations, from the groundbreaking Note10 and Note 10+ powerphones, the popular Galaxy S10, and a whole new product category in the form of the Galaxy Fold. In homes throughout the country, Samsung captures the imagination of the nation through the introduction of the perfect reality of 8K QLED TV and appliances like the RS5000 fridge, which give people the power to effortlessly control temperature and space.

At the event in Sandton, Samsung will unveil its latest device tailored to the local market and the Power of 10 celebration will continue long after the event. It will also be a part of Cassper Nyovest’s famous Fill-Up concert series, in December in Rustenburg.

“In an ever-changing world with evolving consumer needs, we continually push the boundaries with every product, to deliver a perfect 10. South Africa can expect many more innovations and projects that make life better, “ concludes Mokanyane.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 08 October, 2019 – Fresh off the heels of the launch of the Galaxy Note10, Samsung is celebrating its continuing partnership Fortnite developer Epic Games with the announcement of an exclusive in-game Glow skin available for almost all Galaxy device owners1. The design of the Glow skin is derived from the Galaxy Note10’s signature Aura Glow colour, created with free-thinking millennials in mind and inspired by the reflective light of a prism.

Available now, the new Glow skin joins an expanding roster of Samsung’s exclusive Fortnite content. Last year the two companies celebrated the game’s Android launch with the Galaxy Skin available only on the Galaxy Note9 and Galaxy TabS4. The partnership then expanded earlier this year with the launch of the iKONIK skin and accompanying dance move, Love Scenario, which was developed with K-Pop star Jung Chanwoo of the band iKON for the Galaxy S10.

“Offered on a wider range of devices, the new Glow skin will be based off last year’s Fate skin but will include a new colour combination based on the Galaxy Note10’s Aura Glow colour. The partnership reflects Samsung’s growing focus on delivering users cutting-edge gaming experiences and the global success of Fortnite, “says Justin Hume, Director: Integrated Mobility at Samsung South Africa.

Since launching in 2017, the game has become a cultural phenomenon, reaching more than 250 million registered players at the beginning of 2019 and generating over $2 billion worldwide across all platforms. The partnership provides Samsung with store exclusivity, with the Android version of the game only available through the Galaxy Store and the Epic Games website, a recognition of Samsung’s devices as the gold standard of mobile gaming. The Galaxy Note10 is the company’s latest and greatest offering, with a suite of features that make training to be the next Fortnite world champion a breeze.

The Galaxy Note10’s Game Booster, an AI-based predictive performance enhancer, analyses your playing habits, as well as data from publishers including Epic Games, to optimise your gaming experience depending on your unique individual needs. For those into graphic intense RPGs, Game Booster will optimise your device for better graphics and frame rates, while casual gamers will get a boost in battery performance so you can game for your entire commute with plenty of juice leftover. On top of these software innovations, the Galaxy Note10 also has significant hardware improvements. Equipped with a powerful, smarter battery that optimises power consumption based on individual usage patterns, you never have to worry about sacrificing game time for battery life. For those graphic-intense games that tend to heat up your phone, the Galaxy Note10 also comes with the world’s slimmest vapour chamber. At just 0.35t, the ultra-thin vapour chamber fits within the device’s thin, sleek design and regulates heat to stabilise your device and prevent frustrating lags caused by overheating.

Galaxy Note10 users can take full advantage of their carrier’s fastest network speeds, ensuring you always get a smooth experience gaming on the go. Combined with a powerful CPU and GPU for rendering those stunning graphics, Samsung has signified that mobile gaming is central to its design.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 04 October 2019 – Samsung Pay, the popular mobile tap-and-pay solution, is proving its worth once again in a big way. A recent article on Mybroadband.co.za has highlighted the seriousness of card skimming, which has risen sharply in South Africa. Conversely, Samsung Pay has seen a dramatic uptake in the past year, having already hit over one million transactions. Innovative services like Samsung Pay prevents criminals from cloning card details and recording consumer’s PINs through concealed hardware on point-of-sale machines.

Samsung Pay negates the need to use a physical card and be susceptible to skimmers. It uses tokenisation from Visa and MasterCard to protect your physical card information, so every time you make a payment your physical card information is never used during the payment process but instead a unique cryptographic sequence is used for the transaction, which changes with every transaction made. Additional protection is provided through Samsung’s government-grade Knox security, already built-in to Samsung smartphones and watches.

Card skimming is expected to increase into the upcoming festive season. It could happen anywhere when using a point-of-sale machine. This means points-of-sale devices, at restaurants or grocery stores, may not be safe. The fact is, it is difficult for consumers to remember to inspect point-of-sale machines for any irregularities every time they pay using their card. This is why South Africans are turning to the security and simplicity of Samsung Pay. It provides the functionality of a bank and loyalty card, which can be used almost anywhere* you can swipe, insert or tap a card.

“Samsung Pay provides peace of mind on an unprecedented level. Additionally, our customers have wholeheartedly embraced the convenience of paying using their ever-present smartphone seamlessly and effortlessly” says Justin Hume, Director: Integrated Mobility at Samsung South Africa.

Samsung Pay supports South Africa’s major banking institutions including Absa, Standard Bank, FNB, RMB, Discovery and Investec and has already hit over one million transactions. Samsung Pay can be downloaded, for free, from the Google Play Store or Galaxy Store depending on your Galaxy device. Once you load your bank cards, paying is always just a quick tap away. It’s convenience on the go. Samsung Pay can be used on the following devices: Galaxy Note 10+, Note 10, Note 9, Note 8, Galaxy S10+, S10, S10e, S9/S9+, S8/S8+, S7/S7 edge, A9, A80, A8, A70, A7 (2017), A5 (2017), A30s, Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Gear S3 and Gear Sport Watch.

* 97% acceptance rate based on local trials for compatible smartphones (NFC and MST). Compatible wearables and smartphones (NFC only) will have a lower acceptance rate.

Terms and Conditions Apply.

Local banks are embracing new ways to pay

Samsung Pay has turned smartphones into convenient digital wallets

It wasn’t that long ago that losing your wallet would have been a complete disaster. After all, you’d lose your bank and loyalty cards, important receipts and even precious pictures of your loved ones. But suddenly, the possession you just couldn’t do without is being replaced by your smartphone. Firstly, we now have countless pics of family and friends safely backed up on our devices and receipts can be easily stored with a simple picture. In terms of the primary use of a wallet, banks have now made it easier to use cardless banking at ATM’s. And then there’s a major revolution in terms of wallet-less payments. The arrival of Samsung Pay in the country in 2018 has turned smartphones into virtually the only payment device you need.

“Samsung Pay has brought South Africans a new level of convenience and security when making contactless mobile payments. Armed with your ever-present smartphone, you can now pay with your smartphone in a way you just couldn’t before. It’s this kind of convenience where technology can make a massive difference in our lives,” says Justin Hume, Director: Integrated Mobility at Samsung South Africa.

A Smarter Way to Pay has Arrived

Samsung Pay is continuing its meteoric rise in popularity and there are good reasons for it. This secure and simple digital wallet instantly gives Samsung Pay supported devices the functionality of a bank and loyalty card, which can be used almost anywhere* you can swipe, insert or tap a card. South Africans are clearly embracing safe and convenient ways to shop and Samsung Pay has provided an effortless approach to it. This success is being sustained through partnerships with major banking institutions including Absa, Standard Bank, Discovery Bank and FNB.

Technology Is Delivering On the Promise of Convenience and Safety

With a bank and even loyalty card, loaded on a Samsung smartphone, paying is as simple as swiping upwards on your screen, authenticate via PIN, fingerprint or iris and hold your phone by the payment terminal. Additionally, Samsung Pay’s security exceeds other mobile payment methods. Through tokenisation from Visa and MasterCard the physical card information is never used during the payment process but instead a unique cryptographic sequence and token is used for the transaction, where the cryptographic sequence changes with every transaction made. That’s a first in South Africa and its welcomed.

Yes, there may be some who still hold on to the familiarity of a wallet, but as time marches on, its replacement, the smartphone, is clearly beginning to play a more important role in our pockets, handbags and hearts.

Samsung Pay can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store and used on the following Samsung devices: Galaxy S10+, S10, S10e, Galaxy Note 9, Note 8, S9/S9+, S8/S8+, S7/S7 edge, A8 (2018), A7 (2017) and A5 (2017), Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Note 10+, Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Gear S3 Watch and Gear Sport Watch.

* 97% acceptance rate based on local trials for compatible smartphones (NFC and MST). Compatible wearables (NFC only) will have a lower acceptance rate as they can only be used at contactless terminals. Terms and Conditions Apply.
