JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 04 December 2020 – In South Africa, 5G is becoming an exciting new reality that brings with it advanced capabilities, faster download speeds and connectivity. Of course, these devices rely on 5G-enabled devices. Fortunately, Samsung is committed to harnessing this incredible game-changing technology through its incredibly powerful devices such as the recently launched Galaxy Z Fold2 and Galaxy Note20. Better still; the tech is enhanced by Samsung’s successful partnership with Android.

“For Galaxy fans, the seamless integration and access to the latest Android updates is an essential addition to Samsung’s flourishing ecosystem. For many years now, Samsung has consistently demonstrated the value this provides to customers. After all, the operating system and the innovation within the devices require a meaningful synergy that amplifies the user experience, while protecting Galaxy fans from unnecessary security breaches. With 5G capability there is now even more reason for Samsung smartphone users to feel empowered, “says Justin Hume, Director: Integrated Mobility at Samsung South Africa.

Samsung has committed to launching devices that harness the power of 5G. This bodes well for South Africans looking to extend the lifecycle of their devices with future-proof functionality. When paired with the power of the Android operating system the power to create inspiring new mobile experiences is now in the hands of Samsung smartphone users.

Samsung also provides Samsung Knox, a defence-grade end-to-end security platform, regular Android security updates and proprietary app features updates to most of the Galaxy devices as quickly as possible. Additionally, the importance of contactless payments has been put into sharper focus recently as a preferred method of payment. That’s why Samsung Pay is another reason to feel safe and secure. This simple digital wallet allows you to use your cards instead of cash and do contactless payments almost anywhere on compatible Samsung devices.

Clearly, for Galaxy fans, Samsung and Android’s relationship benefits them in amazing ways – empowering people to do more of what they love most, with apps enabled at peak performance. As the largest Android manufacturer, this comes as good news to Samsung users.

As we move into a new year, there is now a clear need to move forward faster and stronger. With Samsung’s focus on 5G and building on its Android relationship, smartphones will provide many more previously unimaginable ways to work and play. The future is calling and Samsung is answering the call.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 29 September, 2020 – The S Pen has come a long way since it was first introduced in 2011, tucked into the bottom edge of the very first Galaxy Note.

Just as Samsung’s flagship series has redefined the mobile experience as we know it, the S Pen has rewritten the rules for what a smartphone stylus can do. From jotting notes on the go to snapping group photos from afar, and from editing and sharing documents to controlling media, the S Pen allows users to do so much more with their mobile device, more comfortably and conveniently than ever before.

The Galaxy Note20’s S Pen – the series’ tenth – enriches the user experience even further by offering smoother, more intuitive note-taking and lifelike precision. Follow along as we commemorate this monumental release by taking a closer look at the S Pen’s evolution over the years.

The 2011 introduction of the Galaxy Note and the S Pen launched a new category of mobile device: the phablet. Combining the characteristics of a smartphone and a tablet, the Galaxy Note made waves around the world with its ground-breaking design and notepad-like functionality.

The S Pen equipping that initial release was capable of serving as a pen, pencil, brush and highlighter. It also introduced what would be the first of many shortcuts designed to help users get things done faster; double tapping the screen while pressing the S Pen’s button would automatically open the S Memo app.

Introduced the following year, the Galaxy Note2 featured a redesigned S Pen that was flattened on one side to offer a more ergonomic grip.

The most notable enhancement from the first to second model was in pressure sensitivity. While the previous version supported up to 256 levels of pressure sensitivity, the new model supported up to 1,024, or four times as much. The improvement enabled users to enjoy a more nuanced and natural writing experience. A brush menu and eye dropper tool, which made it easy to lift colours from within the Note (from an image, for instance), were also added.

The improvements in the Galaxy Note3’s S Pen went beyond refining the handwriting experience and drastically enhanced the stylus’s productivity features. The new Air Command menu allowed users to instantly access important features simply by ejecting the S Pen or by clicking its button. The addition of this handy feature simplified making calls, sending emails and messages, adding doodles and notes to captured images, and much more.

The Galaxy Note4’s S Pen enhancements were about fostering a more realistic writing experience and adding more productivity tools.

Samsung started by greatly improving the S Pen’s accuracy, doubling its pressure sensitivity from 1,024 levels to 2,048. A new feature, Smart select, was also added to make it easier for users to share a variety of content. With Smart select, users could use their S Pen to instantly select, share and save content on their screen – no matter the app – and then share it with others via email or message.

The Galaxy Note5’s Screen off memo function was added because you never quite know when inspiration will strike, and when it does, you want to be able to capture it as quickly as possible.

The ability to jot memos directly onto the smartphone’s screen – memos that would be instantly saved once the user put the S Pen back into the device – added a new level of convenience to the note-taking experience. To enhance that convenience even further, Samsung simplified how the S Pen was removed. Whereas previous S Pens needed to be pulled out manually via the notch at the end, the Note5’s S Pen ejected with a light press.

Since 2017, many of Samsung’s S Pen enhancements have focused on enabling users to express themselves in fun and meaningful ways.

Introduced with the Galaxy Note8, Live messages are a perfect example of meaningful communication. This feature allows users to use the S Pen to draw their own fun, animated GIFS which can be instantly shared with friends or on social media. Text, drawings and GIFs created with Live message, which offers a diverse range of brushes and pens for users to choose from, can be saved in the Gallery and reused whenever the user likes.

By the time the Galaxy Note9 was introduced, the S Pen had evolved into so much more than a stylus. Now, on top of offering a diverse array of note-taking and productivity tools, the S Pen would serve as a convenient remote control for a wide variety of functions.

The addition of Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE) technology meant that the Note9’s S Pen could be utilised to, for example, snap a group photo from afar by using the S Pen’s button as a shutter, and to remotely control slides in presentations. The S Pen would automatically start charging once it was placed back in the device, and offered up to 30 minutes of use (or around 200 clicks) once fully charged.

With the Galaxy Note10, the S Pen became more than a remote control; it became a magic wand of sorts.

The introduction of S Pen Air actions opened the door for users to remotely control their device using simple gestures. With a press of the S Pen’s button, the user could use these intuitive actions to switch between cameras and shooting modes, zoom in or out of a shot, and execute a variety of other convenient functions, all with customisable gestures. The smartphone also introduced enhancements designed to help users maximise productivity, including a feature that enables handwriting to be instantly converted to text and exported via a variety of formats.

In a rapidly digitising world, we can find ourselves missing the analogue days every now and then. For those who find themselves longing for that pen-and-paper feel, the Galaxy Note20’s S Pen offers the most true-to-life note-taking experience yet.

A bevy of enhancements, including AI technology that allows for more accurate coordinate prediction, as well as an improved gyro sensor and accelerometer, have combined to support the most realistic handwriting and drawing experiences possible. Those experiences are amplified by the new S Pen’s greatly reduced latency. The Galaxy Note20 Ultra’s latency has been reduced by nearly 80 percent compared to the Note10. Such responsiveness enables users to enjoy a more lifelike writing experience – one that feels like the real thing.

In addition, for the Galaxy Note20, Samsung has expanded Air actions’ gesture controls to offer users more convenience. New ‘Anywhere actions’ make navigating your phone fast and easy, no matter which app you’re using. Using them is simple. A gesture resembling a clamp pointing to the right (>) pulls up recently used apps; an upward clamp (^) brings you back to the home screen; a clamp pointing to the left (<) signifies a backward action; and a downward clamp (∨) runs Smart select. Lightly shaking the S Pen automatically activates Screen Write, which instantly captures a screenshot of your screen and displays the S Pen’s annotation tools.

The S Pen’s evolution over the last nine years has been guided by a desire to maximise the usefulness of having a stylus-equipped smartphone. The Galaxy Note20 and its advanced S Pen are the latest products of this unwavering commitment to convenience. Going forward, as we transition to the next normal, Samsung will continue to enrich Note users’ lives by making the S Pen more versatile, powerful and fun to use.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 04 September, 2020 – In recent times, the way we live our lives and manage our daily routines has changed exponentially. The boundaries between the ways we work and how we play have become blurred, and the already-important role that technology has in our lives has only become more paramount.

The powerful Galaxy Note20 and Note20 Ultra, along with their versatile ecosystem, have been designed to help us achieve more in this age of the next normal, and deliver new connected experiences across health, productivity and more. Check out these five Galaxy Note20 features that can keep help optimise your productivity and keep you working efficiently, even when remote.

Work Smarter With the Redefined Samsung Notes

The Galaxy Note20 comes with a redefined Samsung Notes experience that makes note taking, editing and management easier than ever before, giving you more options when looking to optimise your remote working or studying.

Say you are following along with a class online; you can now directly import your PDF lecture materials into Samsung Notes and annotate them freely with your S Pen for a more cohesive learning experience. For those taking notes during a longer class, lecture or presentation, the new Audio Bookmark feature lets users attach and time sync voice recordings to their text. When reviewing back your Notes, just tap on the word you wrote and it will play back the audio time synced to it.

Samsung Notes also provides more options for users getting a head start on the next big work presentation or product design – you can instantly export any handwritten notes into PowerPoint slides, PDF files and Word documents for seamless sharing with the rest of the team.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 08 September 2020 – Packed with an unrivalled camera and productivity features, the Galaxy Note20 series has set a new standard

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 08 September 2020 – Packed with an unrivalled camera and productivity features, the Galaxy Note20 series has set a new standard for smartphone innovation. To empower more users with enhanced work and play experiences, Samsung will bring One UI 2.5 to the Galaxy S20 series starting from August 21. The update includes some of the most popular features from the Note20 series and will be applied to other Galaxy devices gradually.1 Let’s take a closer look.

Camera: Realise Your Cinematic Vision

Capturing jaw-dropping footage just got easier. Pro Video mode lets you produce high-fidelity videos with just the Galaxy S20 series alone.

• If you want to give your videos a cinematic look, all you need to do is shoot in 8K with 24fps frame rate. With the option to record footage in 21:9 aspect ratio, you can capture more of your experiences.

• To produce pro-grade videos, audio quality is as important as the visuals. Pro Video mode on the Galaxy S20 series gives you the ability to control the smartphone’s mic direction, so you can pick up specific sounds when you shoot. When paired with the Galaxy Buds line-up, you can use the earbuds as a pro-style lavalier microphone to minimise background noise and record crystal-clear audio.

Samsung Notes: Experience Next-Level Productivity

The latest Galaxy S20 update is bringing even more powerful features to Samsung Notes to help you get more done faster.

• With Audio Bookmark, you can synchronise your notes with audio recordings of lectures or meetings. When you review your notes, you can simply select a section of what you wrote to playback the corresponding audio. Alternatively, you can scroll through audio recordings to see the matching notes.

• The updated Samsung Notes also lets you import and write on PDF files, making it simpler for you to review and revise documents on-the-go.

• When you are working with multiple devices, Samsung Notes’ Auto save & sync function keeps you in the flow by letting you quickly access notes across your Galaxy S20, tablet, and PC. With new template and background colour options available, as well as the ability to add handwritten text to typed documents, Samsung Notes can help you work more efficiently, no matter your style.

Samsung DeX: A Smarter Way to Multitask

• When it comes to multitasking, two screens are better than one. By tapping on the Samsung DeX icon in the quick panel, you can now connect your Galaxy S20 to a Smart TV wirelessly and instantly enjoy more space to work and play.2

• Samsung DeX also lets you use the Galaxy S20 as a touchpad to control the second display with multi-finger gestures. Simply swipe up with three fingers to see recently opened apps, down to return to home screen, or left or right to switch between apps.

Seamless Connectivity and More

• Enjoy advanced Wi-Fi connectivity with the latest Galaxy S20 update. You can easily share the password of the Wi-Fi you are connected to with nearby Galaxy devices that are in your contact list. The new Wi-Fi feature will also show you the speed of the connections in your surroundings, so you can quickly find the one that suits your needs.

• With the updated Reminder app, you can pre-set time and location for upcoming meetings and tasks.

1 Updates available on following devices: Galaxy S20 Ultra, S20 Ultra, S20+, S20+, S20, S20/S10, S10+, S10, S10e, S10 Lite, S9, S9+/Note10+, Note10+, Note10, Note10, Note10 Lite, Note9, Fold. For other Galaxy devices, Samsung is committed to providing the latest update until the hardware specifications allow us to provide the optimised mobile experience for our users. Supported features may vary by devices.

2 Samsung DeX wireless connection is available on smart TVs that support Phone Screen mirroring only. For the optimal experience, use the feature with Samsung Smart TVs launched 2019 or later.

Nothing brings friends together like a shared love of music. The Galaxy Note20 series makes sharing your latest favourite song easy with an upgraded Music Share experience. While previously the feature only allowed music to be played on devices connected to a shared friend’s phone, on the Galaxy Note20 series, you can listen to the Buds connected to your phone and the Galaxy Buds connected to your friend’s phone. Simply turn on Music Share, select your friend’s Buds, and both Buds will play the same music.

Take Control Over Video Watching With Bixby

The Galaxy Note20 series gives you more control over your video watching experience with Bixby voice control. While streaming your favourite show from your phone, you can seamlessly switch to the TV screen by telling Bixby: “Play this show on TV.” You can also switch back by saying “Play this show on mobile again” for a smooth, continuous viewing experience.

If you missed a scene or want to skip ahead, voice control makes it easy by giving you the power to rewind, fast forward, pause, and play content. Voice control can also help you search for something to watch by telling Bixby to play the title of your favourite show.

“Never before have we relied on technology like we are today. Together, as part of the Galaxy ecosystem, they work together seamlessly so you can spend your time focused on what matters most.”

Galaxy Note20 and Note20 Ultra, the Most Powerful Note Series Yet

The Galaxy Note20 series is a productivity powerhouse that works like a computer and lets you game like a pro. The series comes in two versions: Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G, designed for Note fans who demand the ultimate in power and productivity, and Galaxy Note20 5G, for broader Note users looking to maximise their time for work and play. Both are built for efficiency, so you have more time to stay connected with the people you love.
