For example, a user can simple swipe the Edge Panel and click ‘AI Select’ icon when watching a video to save it as a GIF file. Writing Assist⁴allows users to easily summarise or automatically format contents in which texts can be selected.

One UI 7 also enables simple edits to give users more creative control and freedom. Drawing Assist⁵ helps bring ideas to life with more than a single input, including combinations of text prompts and images or sketches. Audio Eraser⁶ makes advanced editing accessible for all, by isolating categories of sounds and removing unwanted noise in videos.

With deeper Google Gemini⁷integration, controlling the device is as easy as speaking to a friend. Long-press the side button and say, “Find Italian, pet-friendly restaurants with outdoor seating nearby.” Gemini instantly pulls up recommendations in one seamless interaction.

Natural language search⁸ extends to Settings, making it easier to adjust preferences. Users can simply go into Settings and say “My eyes are feeling tired.” In an instant, recommended options such as adjusting brightness or turning on Eye comfort shield appear.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has announced the availability of Galaxy AI^[1] features on more Galaxy devices through a new One UI 6.1 update engineered to further the democratisation of mobile AI. The update will be available across the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5 and Tab S9 series, starting to roll out from end of March. Aligning with the recently launched Galaxy S24 series^[2], this update elevates the standard of users’ mobile AI experience through a hybrid approach that combines on-device and cloud-based AI.

Even more Galaxy users will now be able to take advantage of the communication-enhancing Galaxy AI features available on AI-supported models. The features include the ability to adjust message tone and translate messages in 13 different languages using Chat Assist^[3]. Galaxy users can experience the power of real-time interactions through Live Translate^[4], which provides voice and text translations for phone calls. With Interpreter, users can also engage in spontaneous conversations with locals while traveling as the split-screen feature generates text translations for live conversations.

The broader integration of Galaxy AI across the Galaxy ecosystem also enables seamless user experience in day-to-day tasks on AI-supported models, driving new levels of efficiency. Cherné, who’s also an international fashionista, stylist and artist, explored this concept by delving into the relationship between the digital and natural worlds, delving into the fundamental elements of earth, wind, fire, and water. She seamlessly integrated what is visible and known with what remains unseen and unknown. In this intricate tapestry of reality and spirit, the audience embarked on a journey of both enlightenment and introspection. The Frame TV, NEO QLED on its rotating stand, and the Galaxy S23 range came to life through a combination of sonic, virtual, and visual experiences.

Africa took everyone on an immersive, interactive and stimulating journey through the elements as she personally encounters them. The exhibition was an exploration of our world through her unique perspective. During the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, Samsung Electronics announced that the smartphone would “offer the best camera experience supported by the highest performance yet”. Fast forward a couple of months and the reviews are in. If many of the reviews and reports on it are anything to go by, the new Series has put its best foot forward and certainly hit all the right notes. Read on to see what some of South Africa’s top media had to say about the Samsung Galaxy S23 Series.

“Samsung’s latest flagship has proven that the Galaxy S23 series is on par with what you’d expect from a premium phone in 2023. True to form, the Samsung S23 Plus and its epic sister, the S23 Ultra (which packs Samsung’s first ever 200MP main camera) are not only notably larger than their predecessors, but are more efficient in every way possible; from improved camera, efficient display and overall better specs, with the battery lasting 20 percent longer,” wrote Tankiso Komane, the award-winning publisher and journalist of Now in SA.

The Fortress of Solitude’s Evan Saunders, a seasoned professional with over two decades in technology journalism, shared his impressions about what comes out of the Galaxy S23 box. He said “although the S23 range still features the Android 13 OS, which many of the most recent smartphones were upgraded to in 2022, the new range comes with One UI 5.1 out of the box. This brings with it a host of optimisations and fresh features, especially in the form of multitasking.” He got to spend a few weeks with the Galaxy S23 Plus and his overall take on the device was that, “The Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus is a great standalone smartphone. It offers all the modern features you’d need in a daily driver and is optimised for long battery life and multitasking.”

Another place where you can look for reviews on the plus and base devices in the Galaxy S23 series is HTXT, one of South Africa’s leading technology news and review sites. Hypertext’s editor, Robyn-Leigh Chetty said, “Samsung has pretty much perfected its flagship phone-making process.” When talking about performance the site said that that’s where the base Galaxy S23 really starts to shine. “Running things is the latest mobile silicon from Qualcomm, namely the octa-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage. It is a solid mix that yields the best benchmarking we have recorded to date.” The site goes on to say the user interface is “relatively clean and simple to use and the modest 3 900mAh battery on offer delivers a surprisingly long amount of life, as we were able to get through a day and a half before a charge was required.”

As a final verdict, Hypertext said, “The base model Samsung Galaxy S23 is a good phone and the latest in a long line of flagship offerings from the South Korean outfit that delivers a simple and clean aesthetic, powerful performance, clear display, and solid battery life.”

Top Tech Reviewer and editor of Stuff Magazine, Brett Venter took special note of the leaps in innovation in this new Galaxy S series. He said, “Samsung’s out to wow you and if you’ve been away from the upgrade game for a while, it absolutely will. The Galaxy S23 Ultra is the company’s greatest phone to date. We kinda say that every year but it’s always true.”

Samsung has announced new updates to Bixby that improve user experience, performance and capabilities of the intelligent assistant and platform. The new updates deliver significant improvements in Bixby’s ability with enhanced language recognition, giving people greater control over their mobile experience.

“When Samsung first launched Bixby as a voice assistant, it was part of a vision to create a human-to-machine interface that makes life easier and can advance over time with Samsung Galaxy innovation,” said YoungJip Kim, Samsung’s Executive Vice President and Head of Artificial Intelligence Team in Mobile eXperience. “Today, we introduce updates to build a more intelligent interface that is proactive and adaptive, giving people greater control over their mobile experience.”

Giving People Greater Control over their Mobile Experience

The new Bixby updates bring several new features and improvements that allow people to customise their user experience further, including the recent availability of Bixby Text Call[1] in English. Now, English speakers can answer calls from anywhere by typing a message, which Bixby converts to audio and communicates to the caller directly on their behalf.

Users can also personalise their Bixby Text Call voice. Using the new Bixby Custom Voice Creator[2], users can record different sentences for Bixby to analyse and create an AI generated copy of their voice and tone. Currently available in Korean, this generated voice will also be compatible with other Samsung apps beyond phone calls in the future. And for those who want to customise their wake word, Bixby now supports changes to the Custom wake-up[3] phrase within Bixby settings as well, adding a new option to create a personalised wake-up phrase.

From Intelligent Assistant to Intelligent Platform

Today, Bixby can provide more seamless continuity and better attune to user needs with the introduction of new scenarios[1], including playing music depending on the type of exercise in Samsung Health or saving schedules in Calendar. Now, Bixby can better understand intent and process follow-up requests by understanding context and associating words previously used in interactions. For example, Bixby users can first launch a workout on Samsung Health and then ask Bixby to play music[2] that best suits that exercise by saying “Play music for this workout.”

Enhanced Language Recognition, Processing and Response

In addition to these great new features, Samsung also expanded Bixby’s on-device AI support. Users can run key commands entirely offline, such as setting a timer, taking a screenshot or turning on the flashlight. By integrating on-device AI with its native applications, Samsung was able to further expand its language offering[1] and capabilities with advanced AI-based voice dictation. These updates to Bixby will be made possible by the powerful innovation found in Samsung Galaxy devices, including the industry-leading performance that enables on-device AI applications.

Availability
