JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, 11 APRIL 2019 – Summer in South Africa is renowned for its warm, seemingly endless summers. However, every April and May we begin to feel the first signs that Winter is fast approaching. And this Autumn is no different. It’s now almost time to dust out the long jackets, jerseys and handkerchiefs. And while it’s always been difficult in our country to warm up homes designed more for a hot climate Samsung’s Wind-Free air conditioner is about to provide a solution to take on any cold spell. Better still, it can do so while still factoring in energy efficiency.

“The rising cost of energy has always been a key consideration we face every winter – how to keep the electricity bill to a reasonable level while keeping warm. However, Samsung’s innovative Wind-Free technology ensures that energy efficiency is optimised so that you can take full advantage of a much more relaxing night in,” says Robert Larkan, Head of Digital Air Solutions at Samsung South Africa.

Not only does Wind-Free ensure a constant temperature, it has a filter that captures dust, dangerous contaminants and allergens thanks to its Virus Doctor. This helps eliminate harmful viruses and bacteria, contributing to your health and wellbeing in winter as well as summer. When it comes to indoor cooling, the
Wind-Free system is clearly effective. Instead of simply moving air around, like a conventional fan does, the Samsung’s Wind-Free system gently disperses cool and still air through micro air holes for a natural cooling effect. And because it’s energy efficient, it also has a positive effect on your energy bill. The fact is, with Samsung’s Wind-Free air conditioner you can keep warm, healthier and save on energy costs.

And with built in Wi-Fi, it enables you to control the settings anywhere, anytime via a Smart Home app on your smartphone. This makes it more convenient than ever before to arrive home to a warmer home. As a company committed to human-centred technology Samsung is pleased to be deliver this level of innovation, designed to make life easier, especially during the season when effortless comfort is so welcomed.

Now that’s a winter worth warming up to.

South Africa is renowned for its warm, endless summers, even into April. However, winter does eventually arrive with a sudden, chilly hello. Which means, it’s the time to gear up to for the season, so your family doesn’t have to spend those nippy nights gathered around the television wearing puffer jackets and beanies. This winter, you’ll appreciate Samsung’s Wind-Free air conditioner.

In South Africa warming up a home that’s designed more for a hot climate isn’t as easy as simply closing windows and doors. And the rising cost of energy is another key consideration that we face every winter – how to keep the electricity bill to a reasonable level while keeping warm. Improving the insulation in the house helps maintain comfortable temperatures and Samsung’s innovative Wind-Free technology ensures that energy efficiency is optimised so that you can take full advantage of a much more relaxing night in.

Not only does Wind-Free ensure a constant temperature, the digital inverter 8-pole consumes only 32% of the energy used by conventional air conditioners. Monitoring your savings couldn’t be simpler with the smartphone app which conveniently sets the perfect temperature wherever you are before you arrive home. Winter is also the season when colds and flu are rife. Keeping your home’s air clean and germ free is therefore essential. The Wind-Free filter captures 99% of ultrafine dust and completely filters all incoming air, the Easy Filter captures dust, dangerous contaminants and allergens, while Virus Doctor reduces bacteria and viruses by 99%.

With Samsung’s Wind-Free air conditioner you can keep warm, healthier and save on energy costs. Now that’s a winter worth warming up to.

• Sleep is enhanced positively by air-conditioning
• Environmental conditions are addressed positively
• The impact on health has been carefully considered

Technology has shaped our lives in extraordinary ways. In under a century, we’ve transformed our reality with the rapid rise of the internet into ubiquity, with our indispensable smartphones, biological engineering, artificial intelligence and the captivating magic of augmented reality. However, sometimes it’s the simplest technological solutions like air-conditioning that makes all the difference. Being able to keep cool in summer and warm in winter is a gift that keeps on giving.

“Technology is here to make life easier. That’s why, we’re committed to the relentless pursuit of innovation that makes every day, that much better. The air-conditioner is a wonderful example of technology that makes a real difference,” says Robert Larkan, Head of Digital Air Solutions at Samsung South Africa.

Air-conditioners are a dream investment

The magic temperature range for a good sleep is between*15 and 20 degrees Celsius. While 15 degrees may feel too cold for some and 20 degrees too hot for others, once you find your sweet spot you’ll be in dreamland in no time. The science behind it is simple. This temperature range assists the body to reach the cooler temperatures that induce deep sleep.

Air-conditioners are good for our health

Keeping in shape does wonders for your mind, body and soul. However, air pollution and other environmental factors can trigger respiratory problems like allergies and asthma. It’s therefore perfectly fine and sometimes better to train indoors, according to the American Lung Association*. If you do put your air-conditioner on while training, you can maintain a comfortable temperature, while attempting those new moves you saw on Youtube.

Air-conditioners protect us

While the cold may make you more susceptible to illness, a common cold is caused by bacteria, not cold temperatures.

“Samsung’s Wind-Free air-conditioner has a filter that captures dust, dangerous contaminants and allergens thanks to its Virus Doctor. This helps you eliminate harmful viruses and bacteria, contributing to your health and wellbeing in winter and summer,” says Larkan.

Air conditioners are our biggest fan

When it comes to indoor cooling, air-conditioners are far more effective. Instead of simply moving air around, like a conventional fan does, air-conditioners like Samsung’s Wind-Free system, gently disperses cool and still air through micro air holes for a natural cooling effect. And because it’s energy efficient, it also has a positive effect on your energy bill.

We live in a world of boundless creativity. Through the power of technology, there is always something new and shiny to capture our imagination. However, the classics never die. They just get better like a breath of fresh air.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, 15 January 2019 – Southern African summers are a beautiful time of the year. The skies are blue, the bush is green and if you are lucky, you will witness Mother Nature putting on a show of powerful and lightning storms. But one thing to keep in mind is that these summers can get very hot. If you’re not used to these extreme temperatures, you might wonder how you will ever survive this scorching heat.

“In order to encourage sleep our core body temperature must decrease. However, unusually high temperature and humidity levels impacts the body’s ability to drift into the zone required for healthy rest. It’s therefore essential that you find a way to regulate your body temperature,” says Robert Larkan, Head of Digital Air Solutions at Samsung South Africa.

Here are some tricks to cool down the heat spell which can make a difference if you can’t stand another restless night in bed:

Go with Cotton

Forget the fancy satin or silk sheets. Light-coloured linens made of lightweight cotton (Egyptian or otherwise) are breathable and excellent for promoting ventilation and airflow in the bedroom.

Freeze Out Summer

It’s a bit unusual but stick your sheets in a plastic bag and place them in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes before bed. This will at least buy you some extra time to beat the heat.

Dust Off the Hot Water Bottle

During summer, fill up your trusty hot water bottle and keep it in the freezer for half hour to create a bed-friendly ice pack.

Water, As Always, Is A Lifesaver

Drinking a glass of water before bed helps avoid the dehydration that’s sure to come with a night of tossing, turning and sweating. You probably want to avoid too much water though as you may be kept awake by those inconvenient trips to the bathroom.

Load Shed Yourself

Light bulbs give off heat but fortunately, summer means it stays lighter later. So take advantage of natural light as much as possible and keep rooms cool after dark by using minimal lights. Switching off other unnecessary devices and gadgets also helps. There’s an extra benefit – your energy bill won’t keep you awake at night either.

Get Cold Feet

There are lots of pulse points in your feet and ankles. This means you instantly cool down by soaking your feet in cold water before sleeping.

Be a Bed Hog

This works better if you’re sleeping alone. Spreading out with your arms and legs not touching each other, is best for reducing body heat and letting air circulate around the body. However, if you don’t sleep alone, you may end up in some heated arguments unfortunately.

TOP TIP

Nothing beats an air conditioner though. Even then, the type of air conditioner makes a difference. An air conditioner that constantly blasts cool air at you can have negative consequences. Samsung’s Wind-Free technology is an example of good airflow control. After you’ve selected the desired temperature with Fast Cooling mode, it maintains the ideal temperature without any direct wind by gently dispersing cool and still air through micro air holes for a natural cooling effect. The Wind-Free system’s new Good Sleep mode creates the ideal air conditions in your bedroom, so you can sleep well knowing you won’t feel cold during the night or wake in the morning with a chill. It’s the best way to go from goodnight to good morning.
