Samsung Electronics has announced the global launch of the KMC-W, an updated Windows version of the Samsung Kiosk, winner of an ISE Best of Show award from AV Technology at Integrated Systems Europe 2023. The new version of the Kiosk features an interactive 24-inch display that brings expanded software compatibility to advanced self-service display technology for the food and beverage, retail, travel and healthcare industries.

The convenience of contactless technology has become critical for businesses to meet consumer demand across various industries and applications, including bill payments, drive-thru, self-ordering, cafés and unmanned fitting rooms.

“The retail landscape is changing based on consumer behaviors and rising demand for contactless and non-cash payment methods,” said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “As this trend accelerates not just in retail but also in the food and beverage, healthcare, travel and other sectors, the Samsung Kiosk is the future-ready solution industries need to respond to global demand.”

Powerful Performance, Versatile Applications

Built on the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise operating system (OS), the KMC-W expands the Samsung Kiosk’s OS compatibility to meet the needs of customers in various business environments. Powered by the 11th Gen Intel Core Processor,1 it offers high performance computing power and full compatibility with major ordering, point-of-sale and property management system software. Accordingly, the display comes equipped with various CPU options — including a choice of Intel Celeron 6305E, Core i3 or Core i5 processors — as well as fast 8GB DRAM memory and a 256GB SSD for greater storage capacity.

“It’s great to see the launch of the new KMC-W, which leverages the 11th Gen Intel Core Processor Enterprise Edition and the powerful Windows 10 IoT Enterprise OS to expand customer choices,” said Analisa Roberts, General Manager, Global Device Partners at Microsoft. “With 8GB of DRAM and a 256GB SSD, it provides ultra-fast processing and ample storage space to meet evolving industry demands.”

Offering more interfaces for third-party peripherals, the KMC-W supports a wide range of use cases across industries. Its extensive integration capabilities enable it to meet the needs of a wide range of businesses, from hotels and airports to convenience stores, restaurants, and pharmacies. Businesses can tailor their Kiosks for various scenarios, including using them as ID/passport scanners, external cameras, payment terminals, and vending machines.

The KMC-W’s compact design and flexible features make it suitable for virtually any business environment. Its flexible installation options, which enable it to be affixed to a countertop, wall mount2 or a stand that can be positioned anywhere to seamlessly blend in with its surroundings, allow businesses to save time, cost and space without the need for additional construction.

Enabling More Personalised Customer Experiences Around the World

The Samsung Kiosk Tizen version, launched in 2021, allows businesses and retailers around the world to optimise the customer journey. With the new Samsung Kiosk Windows version, retailers can enjoy the business advantages of the Kiosk display whether they use Tizen or Windows OS.

In the Philippines, fast food chain KFC currently uses Samsung Kiosks on Windows OS at 63 locations. The Kiosks create an in-store digital experience for KFC customers, enabling them to self-serve and enjoy a more personalised and convenient visit. To continue enhancing its customer experience, the company will install Kiosks at more than 100 additional stores by the end of the year.

French company LAPEYRE, which manufactures and sells equipment for home kitchens, bathrooms, doors, and windows, has installed Samsung Kiosks operating on Windows OS throughout its stores. As a growing franchise with 126 locations in France and 25 new stores set to open across the country by 2025, the company has partnered with Samsung to digitalise services to boost business and attract new customers. The rollout includes 100 Kiosks to display queue status, 70 Kiosks to support fast self-ordering, and 300

Kiosks for consumers to browse the company’s product catalog and customise their product using configurators on the kiosks, generating more sales and enhancing the customer experience.

In addition, made-to-order restaurant company Duck Donuts Powered by GRUBBRR is currently utilising Samsung Kiosks based on the Tizen OS. The company’s rollout enhanced the purchase experience at 30 of its stores across the U.S., improving customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. With personalised ordering and easy-to-read menus, Duck Donuts was able to strengthen its customer relationships and drive revenue.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 05 August 2021 –At last August’s Unpacked event, I shared my strategy to bring more empowering mobile technology to as many people as possible, especially at a time when they needed it most. Now, around one year later, our world is slowly but surely preparing to reopen in many ways. We’re all yearning for freedom and the possibilities that this new world has to offer thanks to advancements in technology that are set to make our world bigger than it ever was.

This past year, new technologies continued to reshape the way we live. Our collaboration with trusted industry partners allowed us to drive seamless experiences that offer more personalization and versatility than ever. As we enter this new era of agile transformation, I believe that open ecosystems are the only way to accelerate innovation and give people more freedom to create their own experiences that are best for their lifestyles.

Samsung Electronics is poised and ready to unveil visionary, purposeful mobile technology for a better world. In a few weeks, we will unleash our latest and greatest Galaxy Z series to reshape the smartphone category and completely reimagine your experiences.

Life Opens Up with Galaxy

Today, the world needs flexible technologies that give people room to explore. At Samsung, people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re constantly listening to you to ensure that any new device and experience we create really brings meaningful innovations. We want to enrich everyone’s life, not just the lives of a select few. From epic cameras and vivid, immersive viewing experiences to long-lasting batteries and strong security, we’re focusing on what really matters to you.

As we explore new ways to empower you, we often venture into uncharted territory. That’s how we ended up creating a brand-new category with the launch of the Galaxy Fold. And we didn’t stop there. We kept improving the category with our second generation of foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold2 and the Galaxy Z Flip, with more screen and more of the features you now know and love. I’m excited to say our third generation of foldable devices will open up amazing new multitasking capabilities and enhanced durability for even more people around the world.

Samsung is Bringing More People into the Fold

This will be especially important as the world leap frogs into new frontiers of connectivity that demand open ecosystems and reliable mobile experiences. At Samsung, “open” and “secure” are never mutually exclusive. In fact, our collaborations with trusted industry leaders like Google and Microsoft are why we are able to deliver mobile technology that is secure and optimized for today’s rapidly evolving and interconnected world. We constantly work with key partners to create cutting-edge security solutions that keep your devices and data safe every step of the way. This allows us to give you even more control over your apps, data and privacy, so you can curate your own experience — with total peace of mind.

Collaboration enables us to build mobile experiences that make your life easier and better. It fueled the development of a new unified wearable platform, which we built jointly with Google. On top of your favorite Galaxy apps like Samsung Health and SmartThings, there will be so many others in the new Google Play Store. Furthermore, our One UI Watch user interface is deeply integrated with our other Galaxy devices and provides consistent connectivity between your Galaxy Watch and Galaxy smartphone.

We are also working with Google to enrich our foldable ecosystems with popular apps and services. For our third generation of Galaxy Z phones, we have lined up even more partner apps that make the most of the versatile fold-out format. From hands-free optimized video calling with Google Duo and watching videos in Flex mode on YouTube to multitasking in Microsoft Teams, our foldable ecosystem will offer a wealth of seamless and optimized experiences.

A New Chapter in Smartphone Innovation Is Here

The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold combines the very best that smartphones and tablets offer and delivers completely new ways of working, connecting and creating, while the upcoming Z Flip exhibits an even more refined style, armed with more durable, stronger materials. I firmly believe these devices will answer the call for the versatile mobile technology we need as we navigate the open road ahead.

We are out to set new heights and open up a whole new world of exciting experiences for even more people. I hope you’ll join us as we debut our next Galaxy Z family and share some foldable surprises — including the first-ever S Pen designed specifically for foldable phones. Instead of unveiling a new Galaxy Note this time around, we will further broaden beloved Note features to more Samsung Galaxy devices. In the meantime, mark your calendars and tune in to our Unpacked event on August 11 to see what unfolds.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, 07 May 2019 – At a function, held in Johannesburg today, Samsung announced its R280 million Equity Equivalent Investment Programme (EEIP), projected to have a measurable impact on job creation and a contribution of nearly R1 billion to the South African economy at large. EEIP is an initiative of the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) where multinational companies that are unable to sell equity in South Africa are invited to participate and contribute positively towards B-BBEE and development of South Africa. The announcement event, which was addressed by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, through a video, as well as the President and CEO of Samsung Africa, Mr. Sung Yoon, followed Samsung’s recent commitments to long term investment in South Africa.

According to Minister Davies, the Samsung South Africa’s Equity Equivalent investment amounts to almost R280 Million over 10 years. It joins nine other multinationals that have been approved for a value of R2.2 billion collectively. The programme has to date resulted in the creation of over 3 000 direct and indirect jobs.

The Samsung plan will create and address key developmental aspects linked to the National Development Plan (NDP) and overall transformation of our economy. These include the Black industrialisation through e-Waste recycling, beneficiation research and development in partnership with Mintek, which is a first for Africa, where a beneficiation plant is planned to be built and maintained by South Africans, and operated by a Black entrepreneur, enterprise development, and the development of township economies through Accredited Services Centres and software development.

“We are delighted that the Samsung EEIP will have the following measurable impacts on the South African economy: it will result in the creation of 262 direct jobs; it will allow the emergence of a new Black Industrialist; it will support 13 black-owned and women-owned businesses and will contribute R945 million to the economy. We are happy that the dti has contributed and supported Samsung in the design and development of this programme that will result in the establishment of five accredited service centres that are black and women-owned. These will be providing repair service to all kinds of brands of consumer electronics, hand-held devices, air-conditioning and refrigerators,” said Minister Davies.

The Director of Business Innovation Group and Corporate Affairs at Samsung South Africa, Mr Hlubi Shivanda added: “We believe our EEIP strategy will help alleviate the many challenges the nation faces. Our alignment with the National Development Plan (NDP) 2030 is part of our statement of intent. The fact is, Samsung is firmly committed to growing South Africa through socio-economic change and has dedicated the necessary resources and time to create a future, which was once merely a dream.”

The approved Samsung SA’s EEIP has an integrated approach, which means that Samsung will be an integral partner in the creation of the first and only black-owned and operated e-waste beneficiation plant in Africa that can separate Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment (WEEE). The company has also opted for a strategic partnership-aligned model to achieve greater impact. In this regard Samsung has partnered with government departments such as DEA, DHE, DTPS and the IDC. UWC has been selected as anchor partner for the development of black application development skills. Additionally, a partnership with Microsoft AppFactory will provide real experience to supplement the theoretical knowledge gained by beneficiaries at UWC. Mintek will be Samsung’s technology partner for e-Waste beneficiation.

Ultimately, The Samsung SA EEIP will make a measurable difference to socio-economic development of black South Africans. The alignment with the overarching objectives of the NDP Vision for 2030, B-BBEE policy, Industrial Policy Action Plan, as well as the Gauteng Township Economy Revitalisation Strategy is set to make a difference by; strengthening government’s Black Industrialisation Programme, driving a culture of innovation through digital solutions, enhancing entrepreneurship development, job creation and township economic development and technical skills development to contribute to much needed skills in the country and raise the prospects of employability.

Samsung will continue to pursue opportunities where people can become meaningfully engaged in the economy and in doing so, have a positive impact on their families, communities and therein, the entire nation.
