With its powerful Neural Quantum Processor 4K, you get to experience the full benefits of the entire 98-inches and immerse yourself in the majestic pictures unfolding right in front of your eyes. The powerful processor adjusts brightness, amplifies contrast, enhances objects and upscales resolution to turn everyday content into a feast for the eyes.

Get to enjoy realistic images in amazing clarity and detail courtesy of the TV’s Quantum HDR+. This is a shift from merely watching your favourite content, be it sports, series or movies, to truly enjoying it. If you opt to stay home and enjoy a game on the TV as opposed to going to the stadium, you’ll have zero regrets as the huge screen that fills your wall brings you all the action as if you’re right in the arena. Besides delivering an awesome picture, the processor also optimises the sound quality of whatever you watch.

You can find all your favourite content in one place with Smart Hub, which puts content curation and discovery in your hands, leaving you more time to stream and enjoy your shows instead of searching. For your optimal enjoyment, the TV comes with the Multi View feature, which lets you view different forms of content simultaneously, including live channels, apps, games, or the content mirrored from your mobile device.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 28 August, 2020 – From vast streaming services to cinematic video games, there’s never been more incredible content waiting at our fingertips – and there’s never been more reason to experience that content on a big-screen TV.

Considering that you can reasonably expect most TVs to last anywhere from 5 to 10 years, when you shop for your next TV, you’ll want to be sure that you’ll be happy with your purchase for the long haul. As time goes by, many consumers report that they regret not buying a bigger screen TV. Today’s consumers want a bigger, more immersive picture. Which may explain why, according to recent consumer segmentation research conducted by Samsung, consumers rank screen size as a major reason to upgrade to a new TV, and why this year, experts predict that sales of 75-inch and larger TVs will increase by 17 percent, and sales of 8K TVs will increase by 110 percent1.

The benefits of buying a big-screen TV are as clear as the spacious displays’ immersive images. Let’s take a closer look at some of those benefits now.

1. Next-Level Realism

It may sound simple, but it’s true: the bigger your TV’s screen, the easier it is to appreciate its picture quality.

The key lies in the balance between size and resolution – the total number of pixels a TV’s screen contains. The bigger the TV, the more important its resolution becomes. An ultra-high-resolution TV like Samsung’s QLED 8K packs a whopping 33 million pixels into its screen. Such high resolution makes pixels imperceptible on a big-screen TV – amplifying your immersion by offering you a bigger, more realistic picture. With this in mind, it’s easy to see why consumers consistently rate screen size as one of the most important factors affecting their TV purchasing decisions, just as it’s easy to see how a big, high-resolution screen takes everything from watching films to gaming to the next level.

2. Watching Movies

Enjoy a theatre experience from the comfort of your living room.

A big-screen, high-resolution TV is ideal for enjoying films at the level of detail they were meant to be viewed. This includes both 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray movies, as well as content from an ever-growing list of streaming services. Special effects look more spectacular, and cinematic moments become that much more so.

3. Gaming

Today’s video game consoles are exceptionally powerful, and capable of supporting incredibly rich and detailed gameplay. When paired with a big-screen TV, the on-screen action becomes even more immersive. Samsung’s QLED TVs offer next-level gaming with Auto Game Mode, a built-in function that automatically analyses connected gaming devices and optimises TV settings to make gameplay as detailed, smooth, and realistic as possible.

4. Watching Sports

When watching sports, a big-screen TV transforms your couch into the best seat in the house. The ability to see more of the action in greater detail makes you feel like you’re there, cheering on your favourite team.

5. Enjoying Edutainment

One of the biggest trends in TVs today has been the rise of edutainment. With so many students studying from home in recent months, TVs have emerged as valuable tools for sparking young ones’ curiosity. A big-screen TV offers a larger window for exploring a wide range of exciting subjects. Samsung’s QLED TVs – part of the company’s wide-ranging Smart TV portfolio – offer entertainment for all ages. They make everything from web browsing to recording shows simple and convenient.

Things to Consider

If you’re thinking of upgrading to a big-screen TV, here are a few points to consider before making your purchase.

» Get a Sense of Its Size

If you’re unsure how a big-screen TV would look in your home, here’s a handy idea: try using painter’s tape to create an outline of the TV size you’re thinking of buying on your wall for reference. You can also refer to the GIF above to see just how easily a 75- or 85-inch TV can fit into your living room.

» Remember That Immersion Is Key

When buying a big-screen TV, make sure that the display you choose will offer you the most immersive experience possible.

Samsung’s QLED 8K TVs combine a high resolution with cutting-edge innovations like the 8K Quantum Processor to offer users the ultimate in terms of both image quality and in-home entertainment.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 11 August 2020 – The ways in which Samsung TVs have continually pushed the boundaries over the years is remarkable, with visual and audio quality reaching new heights, and usability becoming more seamless and intuitive than ever before. Not one to be limited to simply improving specs however, Samsung has additionally gotten imaginative when it comes to form factors and aesthetics, producing a range of sophisticated solutions that have given rise to the era of the ‘Lifestyle TV’. It is this constant drive to innovate that has led Samsung to hold the number one position in the global TV market for the past 14 consecutive years.

When it comes to setting new standards in performance, Samsung’s 8K AI upscaling technology has equipped the company’s TVs to provide truly captivating viewing experiences. Likewise, ‘The Wall’ – the first-ever modular display with MicroLED, capable of expanding to a size of hundreds of inches – provided a snapshot of what the future holds for display technology.
It opens up a world of opportunity

Samsung QLED TV is part of a welcome technological evolution

It’s been over a decade since it was decided that all of Africa’s broadcast companies convert to digital terrestrial television (DTT). The process has however been delayed for many reasons. DTT uses less spectrum than analogue signals and the conversion was meant to free up spectrum for other applications. Spectrum relates to the radio frequencies allocated to the mobile industry and other sectors for communication over the airwaves. Only a few African countries such as Tanzania, Rwanda and Kenya were able to meet the goal. South Africa came close, with its broadcasters moving to a “dual illumination” mode, which transmits both digital and analogue signals. But much of Africa still has far to go to achieve the objective.

Why Digital Migration Matters

Shifting to a digital format offers a number of advantages, including improved reception quality, expanded channel options and the ability to add enhanced applications like video-on-demand. Additionally, once TV broadcasting switches to digital, the freed-up spectrum can be used for wireless applications, like those required for 5G for smartphones, that could contribute to broader economic growth. Then there are the added advantages of maximising the potential of pioneering technology like Samsung’s 8K QLED.

The QLED range offers crystal clear TV and a host of incredible benefits to viewers. This includes more screen size options, stunning picture quality enhancements, dazzling colours from every angle, exciting new design elements and it provides even more entertainment options. It does this by offering a new iTunes Movies and TV Shows app and supports Apple AirPlay 2.

The shift to digital will unlock even more potential from both 4K and 8K technology. 8K QLED can upscale current content to a level closer to 8K. However, digital migration will allow for the creation and viewing of content that even more matches the tech that goes into the breath-taking QLED range. It’s therefore important that digital migration is still on the agenda for most African countries. The continent has 54 countries and each presents broadcasters with unique challenges in the shift from analogue to digital signals.

When it does, pioneering advancements in mobile technology, as well as pioneering products like Samsung QLED, will capture our imagination even more so.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, 24 May 2019 – Samsung has announced the “Making History” QLED 8K TV commercial and a multi-platform campaign with CNN Films in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, when television enabled people around the world to witness one of mankind’s greatest achievements. In 2019, Samsung is making TV history again by pushing the boundaries of technology with QLED 8K, now allowing consumers to watch video content in the highest resolution this category has ever seen.

“TV technology has been essential in bringing the world together to experience critical moments in modern history,” said Nithia Pillay, Director: Consumer Electronics at Samsung South Africa. “As we mark the 50th anniversary of Samsung and the first steps on the moon by a human, it’s only fitting that our “Making History” QLED 8K TV commercial and multimedia campaign with CNN celebrates the past while giving a glimpse into how Samsung will continue to bring people together in the future through the power of 8K.”

Created by adam&eveNYC, Samsung’s “Making History” QLED 8K TV commercial campaign features moon landing footage licensed from the ground-breaking ‘APOLLO 11’ documentary. This summer, Samsung will also sponsor the broadcast premiere of the ‘APOLLO 11’ documentary on CNN, beginning June 23 at 9:00pm and 11:00pm Eastern with limited commercial interruption and will feature a special 60-second version of Samsung’s “Making History” commercial. Directed and produced by Todd Douglas Miller, ‘APOLLO 11’ was created from newly-discovered, never-before-seen 70mm archival footage and more than 11,000 hours of uncatalogued audio recordings from NASA and the National Archives.

‘APOLLO 11’ (and ‘Apollo 11: First Steps Edition’) is the result of more than two years of collaboration between Miller’s Statement Pictures and CNN Films, and marks the third collaboration between CNN Films and Miller. CNN Films and Miller also collaborated for the production of the documentary short, distributed by Great Big Story, THE LAST STEPS, about the final NASA lunar mission, Apollo 17.

‘APOLLO 11’ is a cinematic event that takes viewers on NASA’s historic mission led by astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins, that first put men on the moon 50 years ago. In addition to the ‘APOLLO 11’ television premiere on June 23rd, the film will encore Saturday, June 29 and Saturday, July 20 at 9:00pm on CNN. Samsung’s cross-platform campaign with CNN aligns the new era of 8K QLED picture quality together with the technical feat of the film’s extraordinary production. This includes branded content produced by CNN’s brand studio Courageous for Samsung’s QLED 8K TV, which features retired astronaut Scott Kelly narrating a personal experience from his space travel. The creative will launch on the anniversary of the moon landing across CNN’s social handles.

Additionally, Samsung will sponsor a three-part digital video series tied to the anniversary. This CNN editorial endeavour will spotlight a new generation of women leaders who are determining where the next great discoveries will be made, developing the ground-breaking technology to send humanity to the farthest reaches of the universe, and tapping a younger, more diverse recruiting pipeline that is opening doors for the next crop of dreamers.
