Private Sharing with Quick Share

Ever been in a situation like this? You want to share pictures of your newborn baby, or a video from your recent holiday, but don’t want to risk them somehow ending up online or visible to anyone other than those you intended.

Samsung Galaxy has a built-in solution to this problem: Quick Share’s Private Sharing, a privacy-preserving file-sharing function that lets you share your data with peace of mind.

With Private Sharing, you and you alone own the data. You can ensure that only the designated recipients can open the files you send – no one else. You can also set permissions and expiration dates for the data, so it’s only viewable for a limited amount of time. Further, you can give read-only access without the ability to re-share; revoke the data access whenever you like; restrict screenshotting, and see when the recipient received and opened the file.

Private Sharing makes it safe and easy to share your content, and you can share up to 20 files at once with a total size of under 200MB. And of course, all your files are securely and fully encrypted when shared, courtesy of blockchain-based encryption technology.

To use Private Sharing, select the file you want to send and tap the Share icon. Tap Quick Share, followed by the three dots for more options in the top right corner. Then select Turn on Private Sharing. Once the message has been sent, you can check what you’ve sent and change the expiration date or revoke sharing permissions.

No more worries about misfiring a private photo or file, or having your information fall into the wrong hands. With Quick Share’s Private Sharing, you’re in control of your data and who you choose to share it with, and you’ll be kept up to date every step of the way.

Enhanced Data Protection with End-to-End Encryption

Here’s a moment that would make anyone panic. You receive a notification that something’s gone wrong with a website you visited, and the server where your sensitive account details are stored has been compromised.

No one wants their data leaked. But with Galaxy’s Enhanced Data Protection, you can rest assured that your data remains secure in the Samsung Cloud.

Starting with the Galaxy S24, Enhanced Data Protection offers additional protection for Galaxy devices when you sync or back up your data with Samsung Cloud.^[1] This feature mitigates data loss via end-to-end encryption (E2EE), which ensures data can only be encrypted or decrypted on your device and cannot be seen by anyone but you. In other words, you can connect to other devices while staying secure, and your data will be kept safe even if a server is compromised or account details are stolen.

When you activate Enhanced Data Protection, you’ll be prompted to write down a recovery code to help prevent the loss of your data in the event you lose your device.

To use Enhanced Data Protection, open the Samsung Cloud app, tap the three dots for more options, choose Settings, and then Enhanced Data Protection. From here, you can choose to encrypt backup or synced data. Alternatively, you can open your device Settings and go to Security and Privacy to find this feature.

End-to-end encrypted data is only accessible on devices using the Enhanced Data Protection feature, and cannot be accessed by anyone else, including Samsung.

In a flight attendant-like announcement, Galaxy’s new video spotlighting the ease of switching over to a new Galaxy smartphone from another operating system announces that apps and data from your former smartphone have moved fast and comfortably made it to their new device. The icons are impressed with their new home, taking a leisurely look around while checking out their new appearance.

Shot from the perspective of smartphone icons, this amusing video was released on Samsung Electronics’ YouTube channel in April as part of the “Samsung Galaxy: All About Switching” campaign. It shows off leading Galaxy features for consumers who may be hesitant to make the switch. In more than two weeks since its release, the clip went viral — reaching 21.2 million views and receiving more than 72,000 likes and 5,400 comments.

Can I Safely Switch to Galaxy? Answering the Real Concerns of Consumers

Research shows that concerns about the device switching process are a phenomenon shared by many. From questions about the complexity of the switching process to platform compatibility with existing peripherals, to worries over whether photos and other data can be safely transferred without loss, switching fears are common.

In “All About Switching,” the icons mirror consumers’ initial concerns, becoming lost in confusion upon hearing that they’ll be moving to a new home. Comical conversations ensue between the personified icons to help ease consumers’ potential worries.

Here to reassure both concerned icons and consumers alike is the Galaxy Smart Switch app. The switch to Galaxy is over in a flash, complemented by the lively and dynamic icons. Even without facial features, their expressions and detailed animation effects help bring each icon to life. In fact, 3D animation was used to enhance the subtle expressions of the Samsung Knox icon to mimic the subtle movements of a mouth and eyebrows.

To help create this entertaining video, Samsung enlisted the help of some notable voice actors who have appeared in Hollywood blockbusters such as Star Wars and Jurassic Park and an animation voice acting specialist whose credits include the U.S. versions of Naruto and Bleach. In addition, detailed animation effects help bring each icon to life. Towards the end of the video, viewers see behind-the-scenes clips of the voice actors in action.

From Smart Switch to One UI: Spotlighting the Unique Galaxy Experience

Through the “All About Switching” video, Samsung is not only showing how easy it is to make the switch to Galaxy but also introducing the unique features and benefits of Galaxy. The video is divided into several chapters including Smart Switch, SmartThings service, Samsung Knox security, Quick Share and One UI. The icon of each feature pops up during the corresponding chapter to introduce what it does while addressing any situations consumers may encounter.

For instance, the SmartThings icon declares that “Nothing’s more important than connections!” and goes on to mention that Galaxy can connect to various wireless headphones, TVs, lights and other IoT platforms. The Samsung Knox icon comes in right after to explain that data will remain safe and protected for commonly used apps and those that require further security such as financial apps. To learn more about each feature, viewers can simply select the chapter they’re interested in.

Galaxy fans worldwide have reacted to “All About Switching,” posting comments on the Samsung Electronics’ YouTube video that are just as funny as the video itself. As some viewers said: “I will never look at my icons the same after seeing this,” “We need season 2,” and more. A viewer who identified themselves as a different smartphone user left a long comment that echoed the reactions of many others: “This was so tasteful and informative and can def [sic] help others see how easy it can be to switch over [to Galaxy].”

“The ‘All About Switching’ video was designed to introduce the advantages Samsung Galaxy can offer to consumers who are hesitant about making the switch to Galaxy in an entertaining and relatable way,” said Sonia Chang, Vice President of Marketing Team of MX Business at Samsung Electronics, who led the video creation. “We hope that Galaxy’s unique advantages and the convenience of Smart Switch resonate with consumers through the video’s dynamic storytelling.”

1. Share Original Image Files Without Losing Quality

When meeting friends after not seeing them for a long time, capturing memories of your time spent together is essential. However, if the Gallery app on your smartphone fills up with photos while spending quality time with friends, there is no need to worry. To avoid the hassle of uploading all the photos to a messaging app or email and downloading them again, Quick Share provides simple file transfer in a matter of seconds.

The biggest advantage of Quick Share is that users can quickly share photos with nearby Galaxy devices in just a few taps regardless of the number and size of the files. With a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection, users can send files to up to eight people at a time.¹

Receiving files through Quick Share is simple, from set up to sending and receiving. In order to use Quick Share, swipe down from the top of the screen of your Galaxy device and tap on the Quick Share icon from Quick Settings.

For those looking to try out Quick Share, here is how to use the feature in just a few easy steps:

① Select the file to share → click Quick Share

Select a picture or video in the Gallery app or a file in a folder, and then click the Share icon. After pressing the Quick Share icon in the pop-up window, available Galaxy devices that can accept shared files appear.

② Select Galaxy user to transfer files → Receiving party accepts files

Galaxy devices that can accept files are listed according to sharing preferences that the user has set in advance. When the other Galaxy device accepts the file transfer, the file is sent immediately. These shared files can be immediately found in the Quick Share folder created in the Gallery app without a separate download process.

2. Share Quickly and Seamlessly With Non-Galaxy Devices

What’s more, Quick Share makes file sharing easy not only between Galaxy devices but also with other smartphones.

When using Quick Share with non-Galaxy users, a Galaxy user can select the file they want to share via Quick Share and choose from the following options: Copy link, Share in an app and Share using QR code. If the user chooses to share the file using a QR code, the recipient can simply copy or scan the code and receive the file instantly on their smartphone or device. Additionally, files uploaded to the Samsung Cloud can be shared with others as well.

If Share in an app is selected, the link can be sent via a messenger right away, making it an effective way to share files to multiple people at once in a group chatroom. Additionally, users can send original photos and videos in high quality without worrying about deteriorated image quality due to file compression.

It is also worth noting that files uploaded to Samsung Cloud are automatically deleted after a certain period, improving security and user convenience.

3. Share Quickly With A Range of Devices Such as Tablets and Laptops

Quick Share can be used on any Galaxy device that comes with the feature. The instant file sharing feature allows files to move freely across smartphones, Galaxy tablets and Galaxy Books.

Sharing files between different types of Galaxy devices is also easy and frictionless. To send a file from your Galaxy smartphone to your Galaxy Book, all you need to do is activate the Quick Share feature on both devices before selecting the files and recipient using Quick Share.

Share Safely by Doubling Security With Private Share

When sharing files containing important personal or financial information, Samsung’s Private Share is there to help your share files securely.

Unlike Quick Share, which uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections, Private Share supports file encryption by utilizing blockchain. Users can send a variety of files through Private Share, including images, video, audio and documents. Twenty files of up to 200MB in total can be sent at once to a designated recipient using a phone number and identification number.

The most notable feature of Private Share is that users can control the recipient’s access permission and the file’s expiration date. Prior to sharing, users can set the amount of time a file can be viewed as well as how the recipient can use the files. Users can also adjust the settings and revoke sharing permissions even after the files have been sent.

Additionally, the sender can check whether the recipient has received files as well as if and when they have been opened them. To ensure confidentiality, secure files cannot be downloaded, and screenshots cannot be taken, preventing files from being shared with parties that do not have access.

In addition to Quick Share and Private Share, Galaxy users can also use other file sharing methods, such as Dropship as well as Nearby Share, allowing users to send content how and when they want.

Highlight reel creates a dynamic video clip out of your favourite photos and videos. You can either simply enjoy this curated selection of your best snaps or further personalise your reel by amending the duration, adding text, changing the background volume or music and more.

To help you swiftly share high-resolution photos and videos with your friends, Samsung has provided users with Quick Share. It allows you to easily see which users are nearby so that you can select and share high-resolution pictures and videos with multiple people – just by tapping on the icon<span style=”font-size: small;”>¹</span>.
