JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 30 July, 2019 – Samsung Pay, now celebrating its one year anniversary has created a revolution in smartphone shopping in South Africa. Since last year, the innovative mobile payment system has added on a host of banking partners including Absa, Standard Bank, Discovery Bank, Investec and FNB and has already hit over one million transactions. Now, with its most recent software upgrade in July, it introduced Discover Tab, which gives users access to more features and promotions.

“Samsung Pay has redefined what consumers can expect from a digital wallet,” said Justin Hume, Director: Integrated Mobility at Samsung South Africa. “Our ongoing additions such as the Discover Tab takes the convenience even further. Its additional features, promotions, subscription offers and travel deals open up a world of options to users.”

Ever since its launch last year, Samsung Pay has constantly enhanced and upgraded what it offers. The new Discover Tab continues to build on this momentum. Additionally, Samsung is running an 8-week referral promotion, where users are encouraged to refer family and friends for the chance to be in Samsung Pay’s weekly draws, running over 8 weeks. The process is simple and automised:

• A Samsung Pay user goes into Samsung Pay
• They accept the T&C of the referral promo
• The customer gets a unique code that they forward to friends and family
• For every new customer that activates Samsung Pay with the unique code, the customer gets an entry into the weekly draws,
• The referral promo commences 5 August to 29 September 2019.

ABOUT SAMSUNG PAY

With a bank card loaded on a Samsung smartphone, paying is just a swipe, authenticate and tap away. Additionally, Samsung Pay’s security exceeds other mobile payment methods. Through tokenisation from Visa and MasterCard the physical card information is never used during the payment process, but instead a unique cryptographic sequence is used for the transaction, which changes with every transaction made. Samsung Pay also works almost anywhere* you can swipe, insert or tap a card.

Samsung Pay can be downloaded, for free, from the Google Play store or Galaxy Store depending on your Galaxy device. Once you load your bank cards, paying is always just a quick tap away. It’s convenience on the go. Samsung Pay can be used on the following devices: Galaxy S10+, S10, S10e, Galaxy Note 9, Note 8, S9/S9+, S8/S8+, S7/S7 edge, A9, A8 (2018), A70, A7 (2017), A5 (2017), Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Gear S3 Watch and Gear Sport Watch.

* 97% acceptance rate based on local trials for compatible smartphones (NFC and MST). Compatible wearables and smartphones (NFC only) will have a lower acceptance rate. Terms and Conditions Apply.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 25 June, 2019 – There is no doubt that the Galaxy S10 series has built on Samsung’s incredible 10-year legacy in ways that have captured the imagination of the world. Consumer Reports [1] calls it “The Best Smartphone ever” and it was graded “Best Rated Selfie Camera” by DxOMark[2], and for gamers there are even more reasons to get their hands on a Galaxy S10 device. Both the hardware and software have been engineered to deliver performance-enhanced gaming without lag. Whatever the game, the Galaxy S10 brings it to life in a whole new way.

“This is a device that has been optimised for gaming. For the millions of Galaxy fans, the Galaxy S10 is a game changer. It competes with other devices effortlessly and then takes the win for an all-round gaming experience,” says Justin Hume, Director: Integrated Mobility at Samsung South Africa.

Crushing your highest score has never been easier. New cooling technology, a GPU enhanced for smoother gameplay and performance improvements through artificial intelligence, the Galaxy S10 is a gamer’s dream. This should make the Galaxy S10 a great choice for the world’s most popular games. The Galaxy S10’s Infinity-O display and Dolby enhanced game mode also delivers better video and audio than was possible on previous phones. All the models are HDR10+ certified, which makes colours spring to life and enhances contrast. Armed with a Quad HD 2K display, the Galaxy S10 is simply incredible.

The Galaxy S10 and S10e makes use of an advanced heat pipe cooling system while the Galaxy S10+ uses a vapour chamber cooling system. This is similar to the systems used on gaming consoles, allowing for an extremely powerful device that remains at required temperatures without needing traditional cooling systems or fans. The storage capacity of 1TB [3] enables the consumer to install and enjoy their favourite games and apps. The devices are made for those extensive gaming sessions; with up to a 4100mAh (typical) battery [4] capacity on Galaxy S10+, you can spend more time gaming and less time charging.

Clearly, the Galaxy S10 has changed the game in terms of what a smartphone can and should be. More good news for South Africans is that there is now a special offer for those who purchase the Galaxy S10 and S10+ [5]. The first 1000 customers that purchase any of these devices from any network operator, retail outlet and online store will receive 2,500 V-bucks plus the exclusive Galaxy iKonik Outfit within Fortnite[5]. This promotion has been running from 7 June and will continue until 7 July. More info on this amazing promotion can be found online at: https://www.samsung.com/za/offer/

Ultimately, the Galaxy S10 range is packed with powerful features that have made headlines across the globe including a screen made for cinema, ultrasonic fingerprint security, wireless power-share, a long lasting battery [5] and ground-breaking camera features, including an ultra-wide lens. These are just some of the reasons it has garnered the level of praise it has had since launch.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 09 May, 2019 – Samsung has announced its strategic partnership with Syte to power the first native visual AI marketplace within Samsung devices – ground-breaking technology which is now expanding to South Africa. Syte’s visual AI technology will be powering Bixby Vision’s Shopping Assistant, enabling users to browse and shop visually similar products directly from their camera and through a gallery of similar products including Superbalist, Zando, Cotton On, Wantitall, Homechoice and Bid or Buy.

“South Africa has enthusiastic consumers that expect engaging and convenient experiences that fit their lifestyle. We therefore decided to expand our partnership with Syte so our devices deliver just that. With visual search, South Africans can shop with ease, and connect better with their favourite retailers and brands and vice versa,” said Justin Hume, Director: Integrated Mobility at Samsung South Africa.

Syte retail clients will populate the shopping results, which means unprecedented access to high quality, purchase-ready traffic to retailers. Samsung aims to create the first visual AI ecosystem, where real-life inspiration leads directly to product discovery and purchase, all powered by Syte’s leading visual AI technology for retail. In a strategic decision by Samsung and Syte, the retailers that appear on the shoppable feed will create a consistent experience driven by visual inspiration, all the way from snapping a picture to check-out.

“We are thrilled that more and more consumers are going to experience the power of visual search. Our partnership with Samsung and its expansion to South Africa are meaningful achievements for us. By powering the end-to-end journeys of shoppers, we bring more value and increase the engagement between our retail clients and consumers,” said Ofer Fryman, CEO of Syte.

Ultimately, Samsung’s Bixby is being enhanced in many innovative ways. With Bixby Vision already built into the camera on select Samsung devices, you can translate foreign languages, identify landmarks or businesses to learn more about them and even keep track of calories so that each meal fits into your health goals. Along with Bixby Shopping, Samsung continues to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence even further. As a human-centred company, this is all aligned to Samsung’s greater vision of helping people ‘Do What You Can’t’.

Supported devices for Bixby Vision and Shopping include Galaxy S10+/S10/ S10e, S9/S9+, Note8/S8/S8+/A7 2018/A5 2018

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 05 April, 2019

Selfies have met consumers’ needs and surpassed it

Security has been taken to an unprecedented level

Longer battery life empowers people to do more, for much longer

There is no doubt that the latest release in the Galaxy series has built on its incredible legacy in ways that have captured the imagination of the world. Consumer Reports* calls it “The Best Smartphone ever” and it was graded “Best Rated Selfie Camera” by DxOMark.

The Galaxy S10 includes a new line of premium smartphones: The Galaxy S10+, S10 and S10e. Each device is packed with powerful features that have made headlines across the globe including a screen made for cinema, ultrasonic fingerprint security, wireless power-share, a long lasting battery and ground-breaking camera features, including an ultra-wide lens. These are just some of the reasons it has garnered the level of praise it has since launch. The device has also proven the value of listening to what people want and delivering exactly that. The S10 therefore works seamlessly with the apps that South Africans use daily, including Google Play, Gmail, Instagram and Whatsapp. This connection to the Android ecosystem and Samsung’s native technology empowers people to do more of what they love.

Consumer Reports notes the exceptional way it performs the basics including “the longest battery life in our ratings, excellent cameras, and the durability to withstand the physical abuses of daily life.”*

DxOMark, the leading source of independent image quality measurements and ratings for smartphones, cameras and lenses, rated the Galaxy S10 as the best selfie camera” **.

DisplayMate, the Industry Standard of Excellence for Image and Picture Quality said, “The Galaxy S10 has the most accurate colour display that have ever measured. It is visually indistinguishable from perfect, and almost certainly considerably better than your existing Smartphone, living room HDTV, tablet, laptop and computer monitor”. ***

“With three unique devices, the range has been engineered to meet the distinct needs of today’s smartphone market. Each device delivers a next-generation experience in the categories South Africans care about most, including ground-breaking innovations in display, security, camera and performance, “says Justin Hume, Director: Integrated Mobility at Samsung South Africa.

Many of us take it for granted, but we live in a country with a natural landscape that is awe-inspiring, from Table Mountain to the Drakensberg. This is exactly why the newly released Galaxy S10+, S10 and S10e will be warmly welcomed by amateur and professional photographers everywhere. The Galaxy S10 gives South Africans the opportunity to capture our landmarks, cultures and people through a lens that’s pixel perfect. In fact, it does it through multiple lenses.

There is no shortage of fantastic features on the S10, including:

Ultra Wide Lens: This lens mimics the human eye by giving you a 123-degree field of view. What does this mean? Simply put, whatever you see is what you’ll capture. From impressive landscape shots, big panoramas and trying to fit the entire extended family into a photo, the Ultra Wide Lens is like an extension of your own eyes.

Super Steady and High-Quality Video Recording: Whether you’re dancing in the middle of an amazing concert in Jozi or trying to record every detail of a bumpy bike ride through the Winelands, Super Steady allows you to capture the moment, effortlessly. Also helpful is the fact that both the front and rear cameras can shoot in UHD quality.

AI Camera: The future has arrived and it lives in the S10’s camera. With its neural processing unit, you can get pro-grade shots worth sharing without having to manually select any advanced camera settings. Its Scene Optimizer recognises the environment you’re shooting to enhance every detail and through Shot Suggestion you can frame your photos better than ever, day or night.

Since its launch ten years ago, the Galaxy S Series has stood for premium innovation. And now the recent release of the Galaxy S10 has built on that incredible legacy with breakthrough display, camera and performance innovations. It’s a smartphone with a screen made for cinema, ultrasonic fingerprint security and even wireless PowerShare, so you can share your impressive power with your devices as well as your friends. Samsung has clearly raised the bar and with its innovative camera features, even wider.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 11 March, 2019 – Launched in August last year, Samsung Pay has revolutionised mobile payments in South Africa. This secure and simple digital wallet instantly gives Samsung Pay supported devices the functionality of a bank and loyalty card, which can be used almost anywhere* you can swipe, insert or tap a card. The innovative mobile payment system has already generated an impressive 400 000 purchase transactions since launch. It demonstrates the healthy appetite South Africans have for safe and convenient ways to pay.

This success was achieved through strong partnerships with banking institutions including Absa and Standard Bank. With the addition of FNB and RMB Private Bank, Samsung Pay’s growth will be amplified even more. Samsung Pay will also be available to Investec and Discovery Bank customers shortly which will make Samsung Pay as ubiquitous as any other means of traditional payment. Samsung Pay has taken a giant leap forward for digital mobile payments in the country. Effortless convenience has arrived in a big way.

“We’re excited to offer this innovative technology to more South Africans and are confident that the nation will continue to embrace the convenience of Samsung Pay with great enthusiasm. As a human centred company, Samsung is pleased to introduce a product that defies barriers and makes everyday tasks like the grocery run, so much easier,” says Justin Hume, Director: Integrated Mobility at Samsung South Africa.

Samsung Pay works seamlessly with supported Galaxy smartphones and has now grown to include supported Samsung Gear and Samsung Galaxy Watches so there are even more ways to enjoy the simplicity and convenience of Samsung Pay. With your bank cards loaded on a Samsung Pay supported smartphone or watch, paying is just a swipe, authenticate and tap away. It is also one of the most secure mobile payment methods available today leveraging Samsung’s government grade Knox security already built-in to Samsung smartphones and watches. Additionally, tokenisation from Visa and Mastercard protects your physical card information as it is never used during the payment process but instead a unique cryptographic sequence is used for the transaction, which changes with every transaction made. Samsung Pay can be downloaded, for free, from the Google Play store. Once you load your bank cards, paying is always just a quick tap away. It’s convenience on the go.

Samsung Pay can be used on the following devices: Galaxy S10+, S10, S10e, Galaxy Note 9, Note 8, S9/S9+, S8/S8+, S7/S7 edge, A8 (2018), A7 (2017) and A5 (2017), Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Gear S3 Watch and Gear Sport Watch.

* 97% acceptance rate based on local trials for compatible smartphones (NFC and MST). Compatible wearables (NFC only) will have a lower acceptance rate as they can only be used at contactless terminals.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – February 20, 2019 – Celebrating a decade since the launch of the first Galaxy S, Samsung introduces a new line of premium smartphones: Galaxy S10. With three unique devices, the Galaxy S10 line is engineered to meet the distinct needs of today’s smartphone market, so consumers can do more of what they love. Each device delivers a next-generation experience in the categories consumers care about most: ground-breaking innovations in display, camera and performance.

A testament to a decade of innovations, Galaxy S10 is designed for those who want a premium smartphone with powerful performance and sets the stage for the next generation of mobile experiences. For consumers looking for a supercharged device, Galaxy S10+ takes every spec – from display, to camera, to performance – to the next level. Galaxy S10e is built for those who want all the premium essentials in a compact package on a flat screen. Finally, Galaxy S10 4G is created for those who want more of everything and are ready for the fastest available speeds and the most powerful features. Featuring the all-new Dynamic AMOLED display, next-generation camera, and intelligent performance, the Galaxy S10 line offers consumers more choices and sets a new standard for the smartphone.

“Since its launch ten years ago, the Galaxy S series has stood for premium innovation – offering consumers an incredible experience, and the ability to find the device that’s right for them,” said Justin Hume, Director – Integrated Mobility, Samsung Electronics South Africa. “Galaxy S10 builds on that incredible legacy, and delivers breakthrough display, camera, and performance innovations. With three premium devices, each built for a unique consumer in mind, Samsung is leveraging a decade of industry leadership to usher in a new era of smartphone technology.”

Introducing the Dynamic AMOLED Display: Full Screen Experience with Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner

Galaxy S10 is made with Samsung’s best screen yet, the world’s first Dynamic AMOLED display. As the first HDR10+-certified smartphone, the display delivers vivid digital content, and with dynamic tone mapping, you’ll see a wider range of colour for a brilliant, realistic picture. Galaxy S10’s Dynamic AMOLED display is also VDE-certified for vibrant bright colours[1] and extraordinary contrast ratio for even deeper blacks and brighter whites.[2]

Verified by DisplayMate, you’ll also enjoy exceptionally accurate colours on your mobile device[3]– even in harsh sunlight. What’s more, the Dynamic AMOLED display also reduces blue light through its TÜV Rheinland-certified Eye Comfort display[4] without compromising picture quality or adding a filter.

The result of a ground-breaking engineering process, Galaxy S10’s unique Infinity-O Display packs an array of sensors and camera technology into a hole-in display – so you can maximise your screen real estate without any distractions.

Galaxy S10’s Dynamic AMOLED display also includes the first-ever in-display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner[5] that reads the 3D contours of your physical thumbprint – not a 2D image of it – for improved anti-spoofing. With the world’s first FIDO Alliance Biometric Component certification, this next generation biometrics authentication offers vault-like security to keep your device safe.

Pro-Grade Camera
