The highlight of this update is the integration of SmartThings with Samsung Health, designed to improve users’ sleep environments while enabling more personalised automation experiences. The update also expands Calm Onboarding to support a wider range of devices and adds compatibility with the Matter 1.4 standard.

Smarter Sleep Environments With Samsung Health Integration

Sleep environment reports Key¹ from Samsung Health on Galaxy devices help users create optimal conditions for rest by providing detailed insights into key factors — such as temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide levels and light intensity — through connected devices and sensors. These reports summarise the previous night’s sleep conditions and offer personalised suggestions for improvement.

When paired with a Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Ring, the latest update enables SmartThings to automatically adjust the environment based on the user’s actual sleep and wake times. Key² For example, routines can be set to turn off lights and the TV at bedtime or to open curtains and play music in the morning.

Greater Flexibility With SmartThings Routines

With the latest update, SmartThings now supports automation routines based on recurring schedules — weekly, monthly or annual — offering added flexibility for a variety of scenarios. For instance, users can automatically change the colour of smart lights to celebrate special occasions like family birthdays.

In addition, SmartThings routines now integrate with Samsung TV Plus on 2025 Samsung TV models. This allows users to include entertainment preferences in their smart home routines — whether it’s setting the TV to turn on the news in the morning or switching to a favourite channel at a preset time to ensure they don’t miss a show.

Broadcasting via SmartThings-Connected Speakers

A new broadcasting feature allows users to send voice messages across SmartThings-connected speakers, making in-home communication more convenient. For example, if a parent is away and sends a voice message through the SmartThings app — “I’ll be home soon, but have a snack from the fridge if you’re hungry” — it will automatically play on the designated home speaker. With real-time message delivery, families can stay connected no matter where they are.

Expanding Calm Onboarding to More Devices

Samsung has offered the Calm Onboarding Key³ feature since late 2023, streamlining setup for Samsung home appliances purchased through Samsung.com or official Samsung stores by linking the entire product journey — from order and delivery to connection with the SmartThings app.

In the latest SmartThings update, Samsung is expanding Calm Onboarding beyond its own products to include compatible third-party smart home devices for a more seamless and intuitive connectivity experience. Users who purchase SmartThings-compatible smart home devices directly from Samsung.com will now receive purchase and delivery updates within the SmartThings app. Additionally, users will receive step-by-step onboarding instructions to simplify product setup. The rollout will begin in Korea, with plans to expand to other countries. Key⁴

Matter 1.4 Support

SmartThings continues to advance the IoT landscape by expanding its support for Matter 1.4. The latest version of the standard includes a wide range of energy management devices — such as water heater, heat pump, solar power device, battery storage device, mounted on/off control switch and mounted dimmable load control device. These newly supported device categories build on existing popular device types like lights, thermostats, switches, air conditioners, air purifiers, fans, door locks and more.

By integrating AI-powered routines, broadening device compatibility and adopting the latest Matter standard, SmartThings reinforces its ongoing commitment to innovation — making the connected home more intelligent, energy-efficient and seamless for users and their families.

Samsung introduced a convenient and safe Home AI experience focused on Ease of Use, Care and Saving (energy efficiency).

Security First: Enhancing Connectivity and Safety

Security is at the core of Bespoke Home AI. Samsung has made protecting user data a top priority by leveraging Knox technology to ensure greater security for homes. With this safety in mind, SmartThings is rapidly expanding its integrated ecosystem — providing enhanced security in a connected environment where devices monitor each other’s security status.

Samsung has enhanced the safety of connected home appliances through Knox,^[3] becoming the first company in the consumer electronics industry to receive UL Solutions’ highest rating of “Diamond” and holding the largest number of certifications in the industry for IoT security.

Home AI: Technology That Understands Users’ Tastes and Their Living Spaces

The BESPOKE AI Lifestyle Zone

The BESPOKE AI Lifestyle Zone demonstrated various connected experiences with Samsung home appliances including the Bespoke 4-Door Refrigerator with AI Family Hub, the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI and the Bespoke Slide-in Range.

Bixby can recognize a user’s voice and switch to their individual Family Hub account when they ask about their daily schedule.^[4] If a user has large print mode enabled on their phone, the accessibility feature automatically syncs with the Family Hub refrigerator screen when they speak.

Home AI helps reduce wasted ingredients and saves user’s time with the Bespoke 4-Door Refrigerator with AI Family Hub’s AI Vision Inside ^[5] and Bixby. When a user asks Bixby if there are any ingredients nearing their expiration date, the voice assistant provides a list. A follow-up request for recipes prompts Bixby to suggest tailored recommendations^[6] using those ingredients. Bixby can then send the recipe instructions to the Bespoke Slide-in Range, automatically setting the temperature and cooking time.

When mobile GPS and home sensors detect that users are away, appliances can autonomously operate in a Home AI environment to match users’ preferences. Noisy tasks like the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI emptying its dust bin^[7] or the WindFree Air Conditioner drying its interior can be handled while users are away.

If sensors detect suspicious activity while family members are away, the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI moves to the location to assess the situation with its internal camera and sends a SmartThings notification to the user’s mobile device for real-time video monitoring. If an intrusion is identified, an alert will immediately be sent to the user’s connected security provider

 Furthermore, Samsung appliances proactively prevent everyday dangers. For instance, the Bespoke AI Induction cooktop ^[9] will automatically adjust its power to prevent any accidents if left on for too long.^[10]
Video displays presented Samsung’s Multi Device Experience (MDE) features and highlighted the values of Ease of Use, Care and Saving — showcasing the WindFree Air Conditioner that customizes operation according to usage patterns, the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI that records videos of pets^[11] with a built-in camera and sends a notification to SmartThings and the SmartThings energy usage report^[12] that makes energy use more efficient.

AI Home Touch Screens: Easy Control Anytime, Anywhere

AI Home^[13] touch screens allow users to reduce the burden of household chores and easily control their connected Samsung home appliances from the comfort of their home.^[14]

The Screens Everywhere Zone showcased a refrigerator with a new 9-inch AI Home screen and the new Bespoke AI Washer and Dryer set with 7-inch AI Home screen, both introduced this year. Appliances equipped with AI Home can be controlled securely without the need for a separate hub.

Samsung’s booth introduced immersive future home experiences centered around the themes of Home for Efficiency, Home for Wellness, Home for Loved Ones, Home for Productivity and Home for Art — offering a comprehensive look at how AI is shaping modern living.

Samsung Newsroom explored how the company’s latest innovations are transforming everyday life with intelligent, personalized and connected solutions.

Home for Efficiency

The Home for Efficiency zone demonstrated how AI technology and SmartThings Energy streamline household tasks and energy management. Visitors were impressed by solutions that focused on energy saving and time management, fostering a more eco-conscious lifestyle.

“I feel like [SmartThings Energy features] will have a direct impact in helping me save money,” said Jay Trofe, an attendee from Denver, Pennsylvania. “This will help me greatly reduce my [utility bills], especially when I go away on vacation.”

Samsung showcased AI-powered smart appliances designed to save time and enhance efficiency. The Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, for example, adjusts washing and drying based on fabric type while completing both tasks — eliminating the need to move the laundry across machines. Similarly, the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Combo learns users’ daily routines to autonomously clean floors and manage mopping through Bixby.^[1]

Home for Loved Ones

In the Home for Loved Ones zone, visitors were introduced to AI solutions that help care for family members, pets and plants. Integrated with advanced connected sensors, SmartThings can detect incidents like falls, sending emergency alerts to pre-approved connected devices such as family members’ smartphones, TVs and Family Hub refrigerators.

This exhibition space captured visitors’ attention by showcasing comprehensive management solutions for all household members in user’s lives including pets, children and plants. Highlights included the Galaxy SmartTag2 for tracking pet activity and detecting unusual behavior, and SmartThings-enabled features that send alerts when a baby cries or monitor and adjust the temperature and light levels to support plant care.

 Home for Productivity

The Home for Productivity zone spotlighted tools for optimizing work and study powered by Galaxy AI. Visitors experienced the soon-to-be-released Galaxy Book5 Pro’s AI Select feature, enabling them to instantly search specific areas on the screen or extract text from images for quick and easy access to information.

Home for Art

In the Home for Art zone, visitors were greeted by famous works of art — presented by Samsung Art Store in collaboration with seven renowned art institutions including the Musée d’Orsay, Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), The Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET), Museo Nacional del Prado, Tate, Belvedere and Art Basel. This area offered a unique cultural experience to visitors while showcasing the versatility of Samsung’s cutting-edge screens.

“This space is just breathtaking because it’s so immersive,” said Scott Mulkey, an attendee from Dallas, Texas. “You really feel like you are stepping inside the art.”

Samsung’s “SmartThings for Business” exhibition emphasizes the new advancements that the cutting-edge internet-of-things (IoT) platform will offer, as well as Samsung’s commitment to providing more connected, easy-to-control digital signage across industries.

How Businesses Can Leverage Connected Tech Through SmartThings – From the Smart Store to Smart Office

At the event, Samsung is showcasing how SmartThings enables business owners to leverage their digital signage to connect and gain more control of their smart devices across various landscapes. By offering the SmartThings connectivity feature to commercial display products such as Smart Signage and Hotel TVs, users can experience the convenience of hyper-connectivity in their business environments. These changes will include Samsung smart devices, as well as other devices that support the industry’s latest IoT specifications, Matter and the Home Connectivity Alliance (HCA).

Through the application of SmartThings to various business environments, Samsung contributes to the more efficient management of space and energy by transforming places of business into interconnected smart spaces. These connectivity improvements have been designed to benefit all types of business customers, from small and mid-sized business owners to enterprises. Examples of the smart spaces — including a smart store, smart office and smart hotel — are on display at Samsung’s booth at ISE 2024.

With the Routines feature, users can create desired environments by setting the optimal lighting, temperature, humidity, and air quality in advance, and easily maintain them over time with automated space management. For instance, a smart store can automatically turn the power supply on and off to align menu boards and lighting with operating hours.

Plus, SmartThings AI Energy Mode helps business owners stay eco-conscious by reducing energy usage through efficient asset management and advanced monitoring, such as turning off connected devices or dimming the lights during the day depending on power usage, occupancy and time.

To cater to diverse B2B customer needs, Samsung has expanded the SmartThings Enterprise API ^[1] for business owners. By leveraging the API, customers can easily connect SmartThings to their own management system and create a customized solution optimized for different scenarios or dashboards with the information they want. The customizable device ecosystem ensures seamless connectivity across a wide range of devices and enhances system reliability. A separate application for installers also makes the installation process easy, paying attention to the unique needs of B2B customers with different device owners.

In the case of a hotel or a conference room, where the device owner and the user may be different, the device owner can generate a web URL to share SmartThings features with the end users. This way, hotel guests and conference room users can easily enjoy the SmartThings experience without having to install an extra app. The device owner can also specify the use of authorization and duration of the connected device when generating a web URL.

Marking a significant step forward in connected technology for businesses, SmartThings for Business is set to be globally available during the first half of 2024. The platform will open new possibilities for efficient, smart management of various smart devices across all industries, offering tailored and intelligent device management solutions that cater to the unique needs of diverse business environments.

New Samsung Interactive Display Utilizes Access To Google Play Apps and Google Services for Unlimited Education Possibilities

During ISE, Samsung is also announcing its first Google Enterprise Devices Licensing Agreement (EDLA)-certified ^[2] interactive display (model name: WAD) expected to launch in the first half of 2024. Powered by Android 13, the WAD series — available in 65-, 75-, and 86-inch models — provides a seamless and intuitive learning experience for both teachers and students alike.

The WAD series offers an interactive classroom experience with a suite of educational tools. It provides access to numerous educational apps through Google Play, while also allowing access to various Google services, such as Google Classroom and Google Drive. The interactive display has the look and feel of a large tablet with a familiar and intuitive user interface (UI).

“We are thrilled to bring more Android EDLA-certified devices through our partnership with Samsung Electronics, expanding Android’s reach beyond consumers to schools and businesses,” said Scott Porter, Managing Director, Android Chrome Enterprise Partnerships at Google. “We look forward to a continued partnership with Samsung to provide innovative display solutions for classrooms and beyond.”

The WAD series has been meticulously engineered to meet various safety and reliability requirements in educational environments. The display offers enhanced protection ^[3] during electrical surges or high humidity, adopting various technical measures including a 500V (DC) capacitor to instantly absorb high voltage up to 500V, and a glass type fuse to prevent damage. The WAD series also applies anti-humidity glue to the critical area of the chipset to withstand humid conditions, making it a valuable tool for schools located in areas with high-humidity or rainy climates.

Additionally, Device Management Solution (DMS) offers remote monitoring and control of classroom displays, even when unforeseen circumstances arise, to enhance convenience in educational settings. With Advanced Messaging, the displays can immediately send important messages across campuses, classrooms and public spaces. Urgent communications can also be displayed on interactive whiteboards, so students and other personnel are alerted in real time.

Plus, the series includes an optional attachable Wi-Fi® module, catering to advanced security requirements for various sectors.

The WAD series has been designed with learning optimization as a key priority. It offers a natural writing experience with infrared (IR) touch and supports up to 40 simultaneous touchpoints. The slim design lets educators move the device more conveniently, and features such as Multi Window mode allows them to manage multiple windows within the interface. There is also a 3-in-1 USB-C port that simplifies connectivity and allows connected devices to be charged at up to 65W, plus an HDMI output that enables easy content sharing. For improved convenience, the series also comes with a front stereo speaker, penholder and handle.

Partnering With Cisco, Unveiling 105” 5K Smart Signage Optimized for Hybrid Work Experience

Samsung today also announced an expanded partnership alongside Cisco to deliver enhanced collaboration experiences for hybrid workers. As part of this new partnership, Samsung unveiled its new 105-inch, 21:9 Smart Signage QPD-5K model that is compatible with Cisco Room Kit EQ, which is certified for Microsoft Teams.

Samsung’s newly released 105” QPD-5K model comes with 5K ^[4] resolution and a 21:9 aspect ratio. It provides an intuitive, yet natural video conferencing experience ideal for hybrid workspaces. The QPD-5K is compatible with the Cisco Room Bar and Room Kit Series, creating an efficient meeting environment by integrating camera, audio and all other capabilities required for video conferencing.

“We’ve entered a new era in which hybrid work is an integral part of the work experience. Employees simply must be able to have full functionality while working online,” said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Our partnership with Cisco provides users with an accessible work environment, and at the center of that is our 105-inch QPD-5K display that gives users the feeling they are sitting in the same room as their colleagues.”

When connecting video conferencing devices certified for Microsoft Teams, such as Cisco’s RoomOS-powered systems ^[5], the QPD-5K model’s 21:9 aspect ratio optimizes Front Row experience, an inclusive meeting layout for Microsoft Teams Rooms. It ensures that all participants, whether joining remotely or in person, feel equally present and engaged in the discussion.

Providing a panoramic view, the QPD-5K display offers a hyper-realistic and immersive visual experience in control rooms and classrooms, as well as in meeting rooms. It supports multiple windows to display more information and runs on Tizen OS for optimized performance of web services and industry-leading durability.

Users can also take advantage of a dual-screen video conferencing experience by connecting two Samsung 4K UHD Smart Signage series displays with Cisco’s newest solution, Cisco Room Kit EQX. This feature is available with QHC, QMC and QBC models ranging in size from 65 to 75 inches. Overall, the partnership with Cisco delivers a new standard for fully scalable, manageable and secure solutions for every meeting space in the office of the future.

At the event, Samsung first presented the Transparent MICRO LED in Europe, a groundbreaking innovation unveiled globally at CES 2024. This cutting-edge technology sets a new standard in the commercial display market with its exceptional transmittance and clarity, boasting an extremely small MICRO LED chip and precision manufacturing process that eliminates seams and light refraction. The transparent MICRO LED can be customized to any size or ratio, offering another level of customization for customers.

This technology is set to revolutionize the retail and exhibition spaces, with the display simultaneously showing important information while providing a view of actual products or creating a unique ambiance through its transparent surface.
