SmartThings Energy is the first to integrate with Tesla’s API to enhance residential energy experience Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced

SmartThings Energy is the first to integrate with Tesla’s API to enhance residential energy experience

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced that it has established a service integration with Tesla, to be showcased at CES® 2024, that will connect SmartThings Energy to Tesla products such as Powerwall home battery, Solar Inverter, Wall Connector charging solutions and electric vehicles (EVs). Made possible through Tesla’s open APIs[1], this collaboration will result in the further expansion of SmartThings Energy’s already-comprehensive level of connectivity and contribute to Samsung’s ultimate goal of enabling more convenient, seamless home experiences for consumers.

“Tesla Energy’s customers can now manage and monitor the power status of their homes through SmartThings Energy and Samsung devices in addition to the Tesla app, ensuring more access and connectivity,” said Chanwoo Park, EVP and Head of IoT Development Team of Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics. “This new collaboration is a key milestone for Samsung Electronics in making our solution more widely available beyond home appliances.”

The key consumer benefit of Samsung’s collaboration with Tesla allows SmartThings Energy to connect to Tesla Powerwall, Solar Inverter, Wall Connector charging and EVs, allowing SmartThings Energy to display information relating to users’ energy production, storage and usage.

Additionally, consumers will be able to better prepare for power disruptions and outages through SmartThings Energy’s ability to sync with the Tesla app’s Powerwall “Storm Watch” function. This means that in the case of extreme weather events such as typhoons or heavy snowfall, users can be alerted through SmartThings on their connected Samsung TVs and mobiles in addition to the Tesla app. What’s more, they can activate AI Energy Mode before and during power outages to extend the remaining backup energy stored in Tesla Powerwall.

Samsung’s utilization of the Tesla API is part of its continual drive toward making substantial progress on the Net Zero Home project and enhancing the multi-device experience of SmartThings users.

“At Tesla we are excited to add capability to our products to interact with other intelligent devices and software in customers’ homes. We recently published FleetAPI, allowing developers to interact with Powerwall, Solar, and Wall Connector in addition to our vehicles. We are pleased that Samsung has chosen to be an early developer, given their leading position in consumer smart home technology. Customers will be able to view the status of their grid connectivity across multiple devices and intelligently control home loads to extend their Powerwall energy when off grid.” said Drew Baglino, Tesla.

SmartThings Energy connected to Tesla Powerwall will be first shown at the Samsung booth at CES® 2024. The actual service is currently in development and is targeted to launch in the second quarter of 2024. [2] Please note that the features described above are subject to change.

Creating the optimal environment and maintaining the desired temperature in one’s home or office is always a priority, especially in a climate as varied

Creating the optimal environment and maintaining the desired temperature in one’s home or office is always a priority, especially in a climate as varied as South Africa’s. With this in mind, Samsung has created the Q9000, an air conditioner that not only keeps your space cool when temperatures rise, but adds warmth and comfort during the colder months.

The Q9000 comes standard with an array of advanced technologies such as Smart Inverter, three-stage filtering systems and multiple comfort control settings, while the stylish, aesthetically pleasing silhouette will complement and blend into any interior scheme. The compact design (1.948m tall, 36cm wide and 26cm deep) also means it won’t impose on your space.

Best suited to a space of approximately 55m2, it offers the flexibility of various types of cooling settings to suit different activities, with three front-facing, independent fans that can be operated independently or simultaneously. When an independent fan is on, it is surrounded by an attractive, ice-blue coloured light. The fans provide optimum cooling and energy efficiency with a maximum speed that is significantly higher than standard air conditioners, achieving 13 metres of air throw.

However, the Q9000 adjusts its speed in response to the surrounding temperature, ensuring energy wastage and cost is kept to a minimum. With built-in air purifying technology, ‘Virus Doctor’, the Q9000 will also help to ensure you and your family are protected against harmful bacteria by neutralising contaminants and turning it into water vapour. It also includes a built-in dehumidifier, which will safeguard you against bacteria and mould caused by high humidity. Created with comfort, convenience and smart living in mind, the Q9000 is the perfect accessory to enhance your home or office. Available in black and white.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Do you struggle to fall asleep on these hot South African summer nights, or do you toss and turn, waking up exhausted? This might

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Do you struggle to fall asleep on these hot South African summer nights, or do you toss and turn, waking up exhausted? This might be caused by the fact that your bedroom temperature is too high at night. Maybe you’re trying to save on electricity by not turning on an air conditioner in the summer, but if you didn’t know, the temperature can affect your sleeping patterns.

“Samsung’s Smart Inverter Compressor is the answer to keeping your electricity bill down. It adjusts its speed in response to the surrounding temperature. By running only at the speed needed, energy wastage is kept to a minimum, which reduces your electricity usage,” says Mike van Lier, Director Consumer Electronics at Samsung South Africa.

Dr. Christopher Winter, Medical Director at Charlottesville Neurology and Sleep Medicine, says your bedroom should be between 15ºC and 18ºC for optimal sleep. When trying to fall asleep, your body temperature decreases to initiate sleep and these suggested temperatures can help facilitate this. If your bedroom is cool, rather than warm, it will be easier to shut your eyes for the night.

Temperatures far lower or higher than what is recommended could lead to restlessness and can also affect the quality of rapid eye movement sleep – the stage of sleep with the highest brain activity. During this stage, you’ll have higher brain metabolism and will often dream. There are spontaneous rapid eye movements and minimal body movement. It’s usually difficult to wake a sleeper during this stage. Think of your bedroom as a cave, it should be quiet, cool and dark for the best chance at getting enough rest.

If your room is cooler while trying to fall asleep, you will:

1. Fall asleep more quickly
Provide an environment for your body to fall asleep more comfortably and quicker. If it’s too hot or too cold, your body will waste energy trying to regulate its temperature and will leave you tossing and turning all night.

2. Get a better night’s sleep
When your body isn’t trying to regulate itself, you’ll fall into a deeper, more restorative sleep. Research** has proven that sleeping in cooler environments can help decrease certain types of insomnia.

3. Look more youthful
It’s been shown that sleeping in temperatures between 15ºC and 18ºC will allow your body to release more melatonin, one of our best anti-aging hormones.

4. Decrease your risk for certain metabolic diseases
According to Dr. Francesco Celi***, Chairman of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, sleeping in an 18ºC room not only burns more calories while awake, but the amount of “brown fat” (or good fat) in the body increases. Brown fat allows your body to burn calories, not store them. Together, this could help lower the risk for metabolic diseases like diabetes over time.

“With our technical expertise and products designed with the consumer’s needs in mind, Samsung aims to help people live healthier, productive lives using technology that address that improve and simplify their lives,” concludes Hume.
