Samsung is supporting VisionCare, an international NGO dedicated to preventing blindness, by providing large displays for operating rooms in hospitals across Tanzania, Uganda and Ethiopia. These displays will strengthen the training of local ophthalmologists in cataract surgery as part of the “Open Your Eyes, Africa! See Together, Africa!” project. VisionCare, which received the Samsung Ho-Am Award for Social Service in 2025, is working to expand access to eye care in regions where preventable blindness remains high due to limited healthcare infrastructure. Samsung’s contribution includes the donation of Crystal UHD TVs and Full HD Smart Monitors for surgical and outpatient education, the installations were completed in August 2025 across several hospitals.

Tumbi Referral Hospital in particular is located in the Coast Region of Tanzania and has a history of gradual development from a dispensary in 1967 to a designated regional referral hospital as of April 2011. Initially a dispensary, it was upgraded to a health center in 1970 with a 35-bed capacity, then to a special hospital in 1996, before becoming a regional referral hospital. It now serves as a major healthcare provider in the region.
