Samsung Australia has today announced pricing and availability of its new 990 SSD, available in 1-terabyte (TB) and 2TB capacities. Delivering exceptional sequential performance and enhanced power efficiency, the Samsung 990 SSD is designed as a balanced storage solution optimised for gaming, creative workloads, and daily PC use.

“Samsung’s 990 SSD is a solid solution for a wide range of users looking to expand their storage for heavy workloads, immersive gaming, high-resolution content creation, and DIY PC builds,” said Simon Howe, Director – Visual Display and Brand Memory, Samsung Australia.

Thanks to PCIe 4.0 support and the latest NAND technologies, the Samsung 990 SSD 2TB model delivers a sequential read speed of up to 7,250 megabytes per second (MB/s), while the 1TB model reaches up to 7,150 MB/s. Both models provide sequential write speeds of up to 6,450 MB/s, enabling fast file transfers and loading times.

For random performance, the 2TB model delivers up to 850K read and 1,200K write IOPS, while the 1TB model reaches read and write speeds of up to 700K and 1,100K IOPS, respectively. These capabilities help users experience faster application launches, responsive gameplay, and efficient handling of large-scale workloads.

The large storage capacity options also allow users to store large amounts of high-quality content and the latest AAA games. The 2TB model can store up to 30 large-scale games based on an average size of 64GB[1] , making it an ideal solution for gamers and creators managing increasingly sizable files and applications.

The Samsung 990 SSD has also achieved significant improvements in power efficiency. Compared to its previous 990 PRO model, the power efficiency has improved by up to 38% [2], allowing users achieve high performance with lower power consumption.

The Samsung Magician Software helps ensure the Samsung 990 SSD maintains optimal performance. It supports seamless data migration and drive health monitoring, enabling users to benefit from customised performance optimisation and robust data protection.

The Samsung 990 SSD will be available via select resellers in 1TB and 2TB models from today, with RRPs $385.00 (MZ-V9V1T0BW) and $759.00 (MZ-V9V2T0BW), respectively.

Flex Titanium: Next-Level Viewing

To create a display that provides an immersive viewing experience while maintaining its ability to withstand everyday use, Samsung took a new approach to structural design. This required a material strong enough to withstand external environments, flexible enough to endure repeated folding and thin enough to fit within a refined device structure. Balancing all three factors was essential to advancing foldable displays — and titanium offered the right mix.

Known for its resilience and strength, titanium has been used in some of the most demanding applications, including satellite antennas and the wheels of a Mars rover. While its strength makes titanium a dependable material, it also presents significant engineering challenges when applied to the thin and flexible structure of a foldable display due to its stiffness. Drawing on its expertise, Samsung has integrated titanium into two key components: a titanium-alloy film and a titanium plate.

The titanium-alloy film is a component that supports the display from within, sitting below the OLED panel. A precision rolling process makes the material exceptionally thin  enabling a slimmer display panel.

Below this sits a robust titanium plate, a flexible structure that supports the display module from beneath. It allows tighter bonding with the display module by eliminating air gaps between the module and the adhesive on the plate through advanced hole processing technology. This new structure helps provide more stable support underneath the display when unfolded while retaining the flexibility needed to accommodate repeated folding.

Furthermore, by integrating a high-resolution architecture and next-generation materials, the new display delivers ultra-vivid display resolution while helping to reduce power consumption — delivering a dramatic boost in overall power efficiency.

Entertainment is no longer confined to a single place. Today’s viewing journeys unfold across different screens, moments and contexts.

A show may begin with a clip, a trailer shared in a group chat, or a recommendation that arrives mid-scroll. This is not fragmentation. It is how modern viewing works. The more interesting question is not how many screens we use, but what each screen does best, and why despite the plethora of display options made available to consumers, the TV continues to hold a special place in how people experience entertainment at home.

According to Samsung’s 2025 Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) TV Awareness Survey[1], 65% of the region’s consumers watch TV daily. It’s clear that even as viewing journeys happen across more screens, TV remains part of the everyday rhythm in many households.

From Discovery to Presence

Mobile plays an important role in the viewing journey. It is always within reach, making it suitable for discovery, quick viewing, social sharing, and entertainment on the go.

At the same time, some viewing moments are especially suited for the big screen as TV brings scale, comfort and shared presence to entertainment experiences at home.

For instance, watching a live sports match on the big screen can bring the excitement from the stadium into living rooms. With features like AI Soccer Mode[2], sound and picture are optimised so viewers can enjoy every single bit of the gameday action from the comfort of their homes. This is why close to 40% of SEAO Smart TV users mirror, cast or stream from their phone to the TV1, showing how consumers value the flexibility of mobile viewing while appreciating the big screen experience.

Rather than choosing between screens, consumers are moving fluidly across them. Mobile devices offer mobility and immediacy, while TV brings scale, comfort, and presence.

A Smarter Way to Navigate Entertainment

Modern viewing no longer begins only when someone turns on the TV. It often starts elsewhere, before making its way there. The role of the Smart TV is to make that transition feel seamless, intuitive and coherent.

That is why the interface matters as much as the display. Viewers should be able to move easily between entertainment, apps and experiences.

Samsung’s One UI Tizen[3] reflects this shift by making everyday entertainment smoother to navigate. Viewers can easily access apps, customise the home screen, stream content, and enjoy gaming through built-in smart features, creating a TV experience that feels intuitive, personal and connected. With up to seven years of OS upgrades[4], our TVs are kept up to date with security enhancements and performance improvements.

Furthermore, Samsung Smart TVs support the way people move between screens. They allow users to conveniently mirror mobile content on the TV, use Multi View to watch TV and mobile content at the same time, display personal photos, and use the phone as a remote control.

Where the Moment Comes to Life

Once the journey reaches the TV, the screen determines how the moment lands. This is where pictures, sound and intelligence work together.

Features[5] such as Glare Free, HDR10+, and Object Tracking Sound+ (OTS+) help shape how entertainment feels on the big screen. For instance, whether with daylight or indoor lighting, our certified Glare-free technology reduces reflections, so that viewing experiences stay clear and comfortable. Meanwhile, HDR10+ uncovers delicate details across deep shadows to vibrant highlights, bringing greater dimension and immersion to each scene. Additionally, OTS+ helps sound follow on-screen movement for a more immersive audio experience.

Samsung Vision AI[6] adds another layer by enabling the TV experience to adapt more intelligently to content and environment. Through AI Customisation Mode, AI Optimised Mode and AI Sound Controller, the TV can enhance visual detail, fine-tune audio and adjust settings to better match what viewers are watching and where they are watching it.

As a result, films feel cinematic, with light, shadow and colour carrying depth. Live matches feel immediate, as motion and sound bring the room closer to the action. Gaming feels immersive when the screen keeps pace with every moment. At its best, TV quietly enhances the experience, helping viewers stay immersed in the content and the moment.

On Samsung 2026 TV models[7] supporting Vision AI Companion[8], users can easily pull up related information and content recommendations, activate AI-powered picture and sound enhancements, and access AI apps and features directly on the TV with a click of the AI button or long-press of the Home button on the remote control.   

The journey does not have to end when viewing stops. Samsung’s The Frame extends the role of TV beyond entertainment by allowing the screen to remain an integral part of the room when not in use.

The Frame can display renowned pieces that transform the screen into a personal gallery, reflecting individual tastes and complementing the style of the home. Through the Samsung Art Store[9], users can access more than 5,000 selections from world-famous artists and institutions, with collections that continue to evolve and expand across different genres and themes.

Recent collaborations include the partnership with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, which bring celebrated works by artists such as Diego Rivera and Piet Mondrian into the home. The Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 Collection also features works from emerging and established contemporary artists, imbuing the energy and creativity of their work into everyday living spaces.

This makes The Frame more than a screen for watching content. It becomes part of how people shape their spaces and appreciate art as another form of everyday entertainment.

The Right Screen for the Right Moment

The modern viewing journey does not depend on one screen doing everything. It is contingent on each screen playing its role at the right moment. Mobile helps the journey begin through discovery, immediacy and spontaneous moments. TV is where that journey becomes more focused, immersive and present.

In the midst of the coldest season, new consumer insights from Samsung Australia have revealed that winter weather paired with a belief that dryer usage will add to cost-of-living pressures is adding a new layer of stress to everyday life for many Australians. The insights show almost two in three Australians (62%) prefer to dry their clothes on an indoor drying rack rather than use their dryer to reduce household energy costs[1]. However, one in five Australian respondents (22%) – increasing to one in three (33%) amongst 25-29 year olds – admit they avoid hosting friends and family at their homes in the winter because they are embarrassed about the amount of clothes they have drying indoors on clothes racks[2] and draped over furniture.

According to the insights, two in five (41%) Australians say they feel more pressure now than the same time last year to avoid using their dryer to reduce household costs[3]. In fact, 47% of Australians aged 25-34 years old – increasing to 54% aged 35-39 years old – feel stressed when it rains because they can’t dry their clothes outside[4]. This is consistent with the revelation that half of Australian respondents (51%) feel concerned about energy every time they use their dryer[5].

According to Phil Gaut, Director – Consumer Electronics at Samsung Australia, new heat pump technology has improved energy efficiency in dryers, granting many up to 10 star energy ratings[6] over the past few years, yet outdated beliefs that dryers are energy hungry are hurting Australians beyond their purse pockets.

“Australia is famous for its incredible weather and we’re used to getting through laundry loads using the clothes line in the backyard. In fact, part of our collective cultural identity is based on our passion for spending time with our friends and family outdoors,” said Mr. Gaut. “Come winter, as we spend more time indoors, we are chosing to be surrounded by wet washing rather than our mates because we’re concerned about using the dryer. Not only are heat pump systems significantly more energy-efficient than old vented or condenser dryers, they also operate at cooler temperatures which tend to be kinder to your clothes. With AI being leveraged to reduce energy by 20% on each load , there is no need for Australians to go dark when the clouds do.”

Compounding the stress, insights reveal that almost half of Australian respondents (48%) say they do more loads of washing in cooler seasons because they wear more layers[7].  For a third of Australians, the winter loads add to their average three-to-four laundry loads per week, increasing to five-to-six loads for 18-24 year olds[8].  Furthermore, Australians admit to feel confused on the most energy-efficient ways to tackle their laundry loads. A quarter of Australians (24%) believe smaller, more frequent washes are the key to saving energy[9], while 45% are convinced fewer yet larger loads are more efficient[10].

“There are a few simple things Australians can do to overcome their winter woes in the laundry,” says Mr. Gaut. “It starts with selecting a washing machine and dryer that are the right capacity for your family to make sure loads aren’t over loaded or running half full. Pair your washing machine with a heat pump dryer with a 10 star energy rating that further leverages AI Energy Mode to boost efficiencies with every load. Finally, choose a washer and dryer ‘set’ that are capable of communicating with one another. This will help streamline your laundry routines, giving you time back to do the things you love. With these tips in mind, even the biggest washing machine on the market, the Samsung 19.5kg Bespoke AI Combo, is capable of achieving up to 20% energy savings per wash load and 10% energy savings per dryer load[11].”
