Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today unveiled the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24, unleashing new mobile experiences with Galaxy AI[i][ii]. Galaxy S series leads the way into a new era that will forever change how mobile devices empower users. AI amplifies nearly every experience on the Galaxy S24 series, from enabling barrier-free communication with intelligent text and call translations, to maximising creative freedom with Galaxy’s ProVisual Engine, to setting a new standard for search that will change how Galaxy users discover the world around them.

When you need to communicate defying language barriers, Galaxy S24 makes it easier than ever. Chat with a student or colleague from abroad. Book a reservation while on vacation in another country. It’s all possible with Live Translate[iii], two-way, real-time voice and text translations of phone calls within the native Phone app. No third-party apps are required.

With Interpreter[iv], live conversations can be instantly translated on a split-screen view so people standing opposite each other can read a text transcription of what the other person has said. It even works without cellular data or Wi-Fi.

For messages and other compatible apps, Chat Assist can help perfect conversational tones to ensure communication sounds as it was intended: like a polite message to a co-worker or a short and catchy phrase for a social media caption[v]. AI built into Samsung Keyboard can also translate messages, emails and more in real-time in 13 languages[vi].

Organisation also gets a big boost with Note Assist[vii] in Samsung Notes, featuring AI-generated summaries, template creation that streamlines notes with pre-made formats, and cover creation to make notes easy to spot with a brief preview. For voice recordings, even when there are multiple speakers, Transcript Assist[viii] uses AI and Speech-to-Text technology to help transcribe, summarise and even translate recordings into select languages.

Communication isn’t the only way Galaxy S24 takes the fundamental benefits of the phone into the future. Online search has transformed nearly every aspect of life. Galaxy S24 marks a milestone as the first Galaxy phone to debut intuitive, gesture-driven Circle to Search[ix] with Google. To give Galaxy users an incredible new tool, Galaxy turned to the worldwide leader of search, Google, and opened up new forms of discovery with a simple gesture. Unleash Creativity to Discover the World in New Ways

Galaxy S24 series’ ProVisual Engine[x] is a comprehensive suite of AI-powered tools that transform image capturing abilities and maximise creative freedom every step of the way, from setting up a shot all the way to sharing it on social. Gone are shaky, pixelated images taken from far away. Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Quad Tele System, with new 5x optical zoom lens, works with the 50MP sensor to enable optical-quality performance at zoom levels from 2x, 3x, 5x to 10x[xi] magnification thanks to Adaptive Pixel Sensor. Capture clear images from far away by zooming in up to 100x with enhanced digital zoom.

With upgraded Nightography capabilities, photos and videos shot on Galaxy S24 Space Zoom are brilliant in any conditions, even when zoomed in. Capture more light in dim conditions with Galaxy S24 Ultra’s larger pixel size, now 1.4 μm, which is 60% bigger[xii]  compared to the previous model. Blur is reduced on Galaxy S24 Ultra with wider optical image stabiliser (OIS) angles and enhanced hand-shake compensation. When recording videos, both front and rear cameras are equipped with Dedicated ISP Block for noise reduction, and Galaxy S24 analyses gyro information to distinguish between the filmer’s movement and the subjects. This allows more effective noise removal and clear videos in the dark, even from far away.

After great shots are captured, innovative Galaxy AI editing tools enable users to make simple edits like object, reflection, and shadow eraser, re-compose, and remaster photos. For easier and more efficient optimisations, Edit Suggestion[xiii] uses AI to suggest tweaks for each photo. While capturing memories is an essential phone feature, sharing memories with the world is just as meaningful. Now, select third-party social apps make the most of Galaxy’s AI-powered camera system. Premium Galaxy S series camera features now integrate directly with mobile apps, like Instagram, in HDR to level up social sharing[xv]. Samsung Electronics Australia has crowned vocal powerhouse Ivana Ilic as the winner of its TikTok-based music reality show, UNDSCVRD. The second season wrapped last night, with the final episode now available on the official @UNDSCVRD_artist page on TikTok.

Throughout the four-week, documentary-style showcase, five budding artists worked together with industry heavyweights like global R&B artist Tkay Maidza, platinum producer James Angus, and multi-platinum songwriter Brooke Toia, to develop their music and brand identity, culminating in the creation of a personal music track and accompanying music video filmed completely on Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra.

In the electrifying season finale, the aspiring professional musicians performed their hit singles in front of a live audience and a panel of music and media industry experts.

The UNDSCVRD winner selection process factored in all elements from the one-month competition, including song writing capability, professionalism in the studio, working with others, musicality and performance style. In the end, Ivana wowed the judges with her powerful vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and captivating stage presence.

“I’m so grateful to have had this opportunity to learn from such passionate and talented people within the industry and to be able to share my music with so many people,” Ivana Ilic said of her experience.

“With Samsung’s support and guidance from all the mentors, I feel like I’m coming out of UNDSCVRD as a singer-songwriter ready for the next chapter of my journey.”

As the winner of UNDSCVRD Season 2, the 19-year-old Melbourne native will receive the opportunity to create a 5 track EP featuring “Better Love”, her emotive debut single and music video, along with four new singles, for a total prize value of $100K. Ilic will retain full control of the resulting EP and its future success, giving her the means to kickstart her music career. She will also be supported by artist management and label services from Call & Response in the form of distribution, artist management and promotion of her EP.

Each of the UNDSCVRD contestants will maintain full ownership of their music masters and production content, serving as a launchpad to jumpstart their professional music careers.

In the next week, further content will be dropping on the official @UNDSCVRD_artist page on TikTok, showcasing the contestants’ journeys on the show as well as a cut down of their music videos. Each artist’s single will be available to stream on music streaming platforms from Friday 21 April.

Since its launch in October 2021, the UNDSCVRD series has cultivated a loyal fan base, amassing more than 64 million views and 1.3 million likes, shares and comments.

A newly designed CPU micro architecture boosts the processing abilities of the Galaxy S23 series by about 30 percent compared to the Galaxy S22 series.[xiii] Capturing stunning photos in low light requires trillions of calculations per second, so Samsung Galaxy’s highly efficient NPU architecture has been optimized by 49 percent to balance performance and power while using an AI algorithm to help users take epic photos and videos.13 One of the most significant improvements to the Galaxy S23 series is the optimized GPU, which is approximately 41 percent faster compared to Galaxy 22 series and designed especially for power users.13

The Galaxy S23 series raises the bar for premium technology that can enrich people’s lives and help contribute to a healthier planet. Since the Galaxy S22 series, Samsung Galaxy increases its use of recycled materials from six internal components in Galaxy S22 Ultra to 12 internal and external components in Galaxy S23 Ultra. Galaxy S23 series also has a wider variety of recycled materials than any other Galaxy smartphone, including pre-consumer recycled aluminium and glass and post-consumer recycled plastics sourced from discarded fishing nets, PET bottles and water barrels.

The new S series is the first to feature Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus® 2, offering durability for long-term use and consisting of an average of 22 percent pre-consumer recycled content[xvii]. Plus, every Galaxy S23 smartphone comes in redesigned packaging box which applied paper made with 100percent recycled paper.

Samsung Electronics Australia has today announced that Taigh Wade is the debut winner of its TikTok-based music competition, UNDSCVRD. Taigh was hand-picked by Australian pop-rock icons, The Veronicas, alongside a panel of music and media industry experts.

After four weeks of competition where the five contestants worked tirelessly to create a professionally produced single with accompanying music video, UNDSCVRD culminated in an exciting showcase streamed on TikTok.

At the showcase finale, each contestant performed their single in front of a live audience including The Veronicas and industry professionals from some of the country’s most respected music and media outlets.

Taigh, a self-taught singer/songwriter from Perth, Western Australia, will now head to the US for the trip of a lifetime, with incredible money-can’t-buy experiences that will expand his world and catapult his music career.

In Los Angeles, he will work with esteemed Aussie production duo, Twice As Nice who’ve worked with the likes of Rihanna, Post Malone, Katy Perry, TY Dolla $ign, and Ariana Grande. The pair will work collaboratively with Taigh to produce his very own five-track EP.

In Nashville, Taigh will perform in front of live audiences at a series of gigs and film music videos to accompany his forthcoming EP.

Taigh said, “It was an unbelievable and incredibly empowering experience to work with so many talented people during UNDSCVRD. I’ve appreciated all the support and guidance from everyone that I’ve worked with – The Veronicas, James Angus, Samsung Galaxy, and rest of the cast – to help realise my vision.”

The UNDSCVRD competition announced earlier in the year and presented by Samsung Galaxy, highlighted five aspiring artists across the country in a docu-style TikTok series. Each artist worked closely with The Veronicas and renowned music producer, James Angus, to produce an original single and music video that encapsulates each of their unique styles.

Since launching in October, UNDSCVRD has attracted a loyal fan base and amassed a huge 22 million views and 450,000 likes on TikTok. The contestants’ group song, ‘Something More’ garnered over a million views in just 24-hours.

Jason Ridge, Group Marketing Manager, Samsung Australia, said, “We are incredibly proud of Taigh – he embodies everything we were hoping to uncover in the process of creating UNDSCVRD. At its Galaxy Unpacked event on August 11, Samsung Electronics unveiled its latest innovations- Galaxy Z Fold3, Z Flip3 and Galaxy Watch4 series, setting the new standard for mobile experiences.

In order for users to get to know these groundbreaking products better, Samsung Newsroom spoke with several Samsung executives to learn about innovations of the latest Galaxy devices and the strategy that went into their development. Q: What is the target sales goal for the Galaxy Z series and what steps are you taking to reach it?

Answered by Bryan Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of Strategic Marketing, Mobile Communications Business

A: Many surveys have shown us that the market demand for foldable smartphones is growing, in fact up to 6.5 million units in 2021[1], triple the demand of last year. Samsung is positioned to be the leading and foremost provider, set to drive volume beyond the market demand.

With the new Galaxy Z series, we’re bringing foldable innovations to more consumers by breaking down the barriers of entry with our pricings. I am confident that with our new Galaxy Z series, we can drive record high demand for foldables, inviting even more consumers to enjoy this new way of using their smartphone.

Q: How are you addressing durability concerns with the new Galaxy Z series? Are the new foldables really durable enough for everyday extended use?

Answered by Dr. Won-Joon Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of the Flagship Product R&D Team, Mobile Communications Business

A: For the new foldable series, we had a big mission: the durability, so that our customers can use the devices with peace of mind for everyday extended use. To do that, we started from scratch in order to make the ‘impossible’, ‘possible’.

Water resistance and increased durability are the key features we focused on for our new foldable devices so that users can take their devices with them anywhere with confidence, whether they are breaking a sweat at the gym or relaxing by the pool.

We are able to deliver the world’s first water resistant foldable smartphones by implementing an innovative sealing design that our engineering team has come up with. We’ve also increased the durability of our flexible displays by about 80 percent compared to the previous foldables by redesigning the layer structure and using a new protective film.

Furthermore, the outer body of the Galaxy Z series is protected by Armor Aluminum and Gorilla Glass Victus, our strongest aluminum frame and toughest glass material yet. Thanks to all these innovations, we believe that foldable smartphones such as the Galaxy Z series are set to become the new standard in mobile devices as the category turns mainstream.

1. What are you most excited about with Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3?

Answered by Patrick Chomet, Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience,  Mobile Communications Business

A: We designed the new Galaxy Z series to address consumers’ needs in every moment – capturing, communicating, sharing and expressing. One of my favorite features is the hands-free selfie with the Galaxy Z Flip3. Continuing our collaboration with Google, we made the video call experience even better. Within Google Duo, the camera automatically zooms in and out to fit everyone into the frame. With HD quality, our premium camera system and the devices’ amazing displays, your hands-free video calls are vivid, clear and more enjoyable.

Furthermore, for Galaxy Z Fold3, we have enabled the S Pen experience with our Wacom partnership, so that users can write down on its large screen for the first time on foldables. You can even watch content on the top half of your screen and take notes with your S Pen on the bottom half.

Q: Is there enough market demand for foldable devices? What do you think consumers want from the new Galaxy Z series?

A: Samsung pioneered the foldable form factor because we believe in the amazing potential for this technology to, quite literally, open up new experiences. People really appreciate their phones’ unique form factor and the flexibility it provides to multitask, or enjoy their favorite shows, on a large, portable screen. These experiences are a big reason why foldable users love their devices, and nearly 9 out of 10 Galaxy Z series users want to buy another foldable as their next device[2]. In fact, the foldable market is set to triple in size this year over last – and Samsung is a primary driver of that growth.

We have improved our latest Galaxy Z series devices to address the biggest consumer needs and wants. Consumers told us that they were looking for increased durability, new and improved displays, S Pen functionality and more apps tailored specifically to the foldable experience. With our latest Galaxy Z series devices, we’re delivering all that and more in sleeker devices – at even lower price points.

Q: What improvements did you make to optimize the S Pen experience for the foldable device?

Answered by Nobu Ide, President and CEO of Wacom.

A: Samsung and Wacom have been working closely together for over 10 years on the S Pen, always innovating to deliver unique and differentiated experiences to Galaxy users.

For the foldable device, we have renewed the S Pen technology to make it more optimized and more special for the new product. Not only does it offer fantastic performance such as less latency and super precision, it also comes with a finely tuned-up pen tip structure to deliver excellent drawing and writing experiences on the foldable screen surface.

We are so honored to see our technologies continue to be used in Galaxy devices and will keep supporting the expanded Galaxy portfolio with the S Pen moving forward.

Q: Why would a user buy a Galaxy Watch4 over other health-specific smartwatches?

A: The Galaxy Watch series has been empowering millions of users to access detailed insights into their overall health for years. Now, we have equipped our new Galaxy Watch4 with our most advanced sensor technology ever in order to deliver our most comprehensive health experience yet.

We reduced the size of the health sensors to create a thinner and slimmer design. While smaller sensors typically lessen the accuracy of health measurements, we developed an entirely new algorithm to ensure we didn’t make any compromises.

On top of that, we engineered the Samsung BioActive Sensor (3-in-1 sensor) that enables three powerful health metrics – Optical Heart Rate Sensor (PPG), Electrical Heart Sensor (ECG) and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis Sensor (BIA) – to run on just one chipset. This means that Galaxy Watch4 users can monitor their Blood Pressure, detect an AFib irregular heartbeat, measure their Blood Oxygen level, and even calculate their Body Composition, anytime, anywhere.

On top of all this, we also boosted Galaxy Watch4’s performance and developed sophisticated sensor technology that fully integrates with industry-leading partner apps, such as Strava.
