Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the global rollout of its latest lineup of smart refrigerators, reinforcing the “Screens Everywhere” vision

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced the global rollout of its latest lineup of smart refrigerators, reinforcing the “Screens Everywhere” vision introduced at CES 2025. This expansion includes the introduction of the 9-inch AI Home screen1 on the 4-Door French Door refrigerators, as well as an enhanced Family Hub screen on select French Door and Side by Side models. An enhanced AI Vision Inside2 feature is integrated on select 4-Door and 4-Door French Door models, refining food identification and streamlining meal planning to ensure a more intuitive kitchen experience for users.

“By offering a wide array of refrigerator options across type and also screen sizes, we are expanding choices to meet diverse household requirements,” says Jeong Seung Moon, EVP and Head of the R&D Team for Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. “Consumers can enjoy greater flexibility in choosing fridge designs while benefiting from the AI-powered smart home experience Samsung provides.”

A Smarter Way To Manage Food, Home, Family Communication and Entertainment

Samsung’s new refrigerators incorporate the intuitive 9” AI Home screen and 32” or 21.5” Family Hub screens, which are designed to enhance four key areas of daily life: Food, Home, Family Communication and Entertainment. The first category, food, is powered by the upgraded AI Vision Inside, which adds four more food items to the list of recognizable types for a total of 37. Furthermore, adding on to fresh food items, AI Vision Inside can now also recognize processed food items. Refrigerators with the enhanced AI Vision Inside will recognize and recommend users to save processed food items that have been placed inside multiple times, allowing up to 50 items to be saved with designated names3. Based on the improved food list, the screen will provide tailored recipe recommendations and meal planning4, making home cooking more seamless and personalized.

Beyond food, the screens also enhance smart home connectivity. The latest advancements provide deeper integration into the smart home ecosystem, making the refrigerator a central hub capable of controlling connected appliances throughout the entire home. With the integration of Map View, users can monitor and control Samsung appliances and even third-party smart home devices5 like lights and smart plugs. There’s also SmartThings Energy6, which helps users track and optimize their energy consumption, facilitating greater efficiency in everyday life. The intuitive display provides users with access to a great deal of information about their home, with users also being able to issue voice commands through Bixby7.

The new Daily Board feature keeps everyone informed and connected. Placed at the heart of the home, the refrigerator screen delivers real-time updates throughout the day — whether it’s the morning weather and schedule before heading to work, or daily energy consumption reports in the evening. Users can also easily access their schedules through voice commands and receive tailored responses. By recognizing each family member’s voice and replying accordingly, Bixby will serve as both a helpful assistant for the entire household and for each person individually8. Additional family-focused features include a shared gallery for storing precious memories and a calendar to help with daily planning.

Samsung’s latest refrigerators also redefine entertainment in the kitchen, allowing users to stay engaged while cooking or spending time with family. With Spotify integration, users can listen to their favorite music or podcasts directly from their fridge9. SmartView Mirroring enables seamless screen sharing from smartphones or Samsung TVs, and the dedicated gallery feature lets families display their favorite photos, adding a personal touch to the kitchen

The Next Generation of Refrigeration

The 4-Door Refrigerator is designed to meet the needs of modern households with its innovative features10. The 9” AI Home applied on select models allows the refrigerator to integrate seamlessly with the smart home ecosystem.

The 4-Door Refrigerator also comes in Kitchen Fit design, allowing agile installation that requires only a tiny gap of just 4mm from the sides and 20mm from the top. Also, the refrigerator’s doors have been enhanced with SpaceMax insulation technology that uses less amount of high-efficiency insulation, increasing the space in the doors by 56% compared to previous models equaling 10L in capacity11. Users can also enjoy convenience with the wide opening door that opens more than 90 degrees, and the food showcase to store frequently used items.

The 4-Door French Door Refrigerator, launching in North America, is available in various configurations, including a 32” Family Hub and a 9” AI Home. This flexibility allows users to choose the best fit for their kitchen. The Auto Open Door12 feature ensures hassle-free accessibility with just a gentle tap, making it accessible to everyone in all kinds of situations to effortlessly access the inside of the fridge. It also has a Beverage Center that includes a water dispenser and a 1.4L Auto-Fill Water Pitcher that is BPA free13. Apart from ensuring that fresh, filtered water is always available, the pitcher also allows users to infuse their water with fruits and herbs.

All three types of refrigerators come with the AI Energy Mode feature, allowing users to reduce energy consumption by up to an additional 10%14. Users can choose to activate the mode always, or when electricity bills are expected to exceed the preset target.

With these latest innovative solutions, Samsung continues to push the boundaries of the connected kitchen, transforming the refrigerator into an intelligent hub that enhances food management, smart home integration and entertainment. By seamlessly blending AI-enabled convenience with energy efficiency, Samsung is redefining how users interact with their appliances and bringing the future of the smart home to life.

1A Wi-Fi connection and a Samsung account are required to access the AI Home, our network-based service, including apps, and other smart features available through your refrigerator. You may need to use a separate device e.g. your laptop/desktop or mobile device, to create/log into a Samsung Account. If you choose not to log-in, you will not be able to enjoy any features available on the AI Home, such as the services available on the SmartThings App and the phone call features. Recipe recommendations and Bixby accessible through the AI Home utilize AI (based on deep learning models, which may be updated periodically to improve accuracy). To access your AI recipe recommendations, click on the ‘Food’ service within the SmartThings App in the AI Home menu.
2Available on select T-Type and French Door refrigerator models. As of April 2025, AI Vision Inside can recognize 37 food items like fresh fruits and veggies. If the food is not recognizable, it may be listed as an unknown item. AI Vision Inside cannot identify or list any food items in the fridge door bins or freezer. It recognizes food items based on deep learning models, which may be updated periodically to improve accuracy. Accuracy of results is not guaranteed.
3Processed foods are limited to those that keep a certain packaged form. AI Home recommends to save the item after it has been input more than 4 times during 30 days.
4Requires login to the Samsung account. The recommendations and meal plans may not fit personal preferences in some cases.
5A Wi-Fi connection and a Samsung account are required. Third-party devices must be SmartThings compatible.
6Available on Android and iOS devices. All devices should be connected to Wi-Fi or other wireless network, and registered with a single Samsung account. The energy usage shown in SmartThings Energy may differ from your actual usage. Availability may vary by country, region, service provider, network environment, or device, and may change without notice.
7Bixby is Samsung’s brand of Internet of Things (IoT) voice assistant. Its service availability may vary depending on the country, language, and dialect.
8Available starting from 2025 May through over-the-network update. Customized answering is available on select usage cases such as accessing Calendar, Gallery, Find my Phone.
9Available in all countries excluding China, Qatar, Yemen, Russia, Sudan
10Available in North America, Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia and the Middle East in Q2 2025. Available screen sizes may vary.
11Based on internal testing, compared to Samsung RF60DB9KF*** model launched in Korea. The capacity may vary by models, region, and feature specifications.
12An automatic closing function is not available. The actual angle that the doors open may vary due to the installation circumstances and usage conditions, like storing heavy items in the door bins. The user may need to adjust how the refrigerator is installed if the doors don’t open properly. The touch sensors can be turned on/off from the display or SmartThings app and the default setting is ‘Off’.
13Bisphenol A (BPA) is found in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins, which are often used in food and beverage containers, and has been linked with possible adverse health effects.
14Based on internal laboratory testing. The test results are based on a comparison of the factory setting temperature when using AI Energy mode and without using AI Energy mode. Results may vary depending on the usage conditions and patterns. AI Energy Mode can be activated in SmartThings Energy, which is available on Android and iOS devices. SmartThings Energy requires Wi-Fi connection and a Samsung account.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced that it will use CES® 2024 to introduce Samsung’s newest kitchen products, applications and features, which include artificial intelligence (AI) features and SmartThings connectivity, enabling an ecosystem that delivers new food and kitchen experiences with Samsung products. Notable products and features in the lineup include the 2024 Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+[1] — which was Samsung’s first home Internet of Things (IoT) refrigerator launched in 2016 — now equipped with the all-new AI Vision Inside feature, the new Anyplace Induction Cooktop and enhancements to the Samsung Food service.

“We are both proud and excited to be showcasing these upgraded AI and connectivity features, which utilize the latest technology to help everyone take their food and kitchen experiences to the next level,” said Moohyung Lee, EVP and Head of the Customer eXperience Team of the Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are committed to letting users enjoy the many benefits of our innovative food ecosystem across a wide range of devices and features.”

AI Features That Enable Food Ideas and Intelligence

To enhance the experience in the kitchen, the 2024 Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+ has been packed with a variety of innovative technologies. One impressive new feature is AI Vision Inside, which uses a smart internal camera that can visualize items in the refrigerator. Also, it is equipped with ‘Vision AI’ technology, which can identify up to 33 different fresh food items based on a predefined set of training data comprising approximately one million food photographs.[2] With the food list that is available and editable on the Family Hub+ screen, users can also manually add expiration date information for items that they would like to keep track of, and the refrigerator sends out alerts through its 32” LCD screen for these items before reaching the set expiry date.

Also, with the assistance of the Fridge Manager feature, which monitors the status of the water filter in the refrigerator and sends an alert when a replacement is needed.

Appliance screen functionality does not stop there. Samsung’s new Anyplace Induction Cooktop and Slide-in Range are each equipped with a 7” LCD screen, where users can view the recipes that were selected and saved from the Family Hub+ to assist their meal preparation. Anti-Scratch Glass applied instead of a typical ceramic glass also helps to resist scratches on the induction surface..

What’s more, the Samsung Food application — which can now be accessed on the Family Hub+, and the Slide-in Range — has several new AI features. The ‘Personalize’ feature3 powered by Food AI allows users to adapt recipes to reflect their dietary requirements, including gluten-free, pescatarian, dairy-free, and other diets. Meanwhile, the new ‘Image-to-Recipe’ feature[3] with Vision AI now recognizes potential meals that can be made with the ingredients in your fridge. Lastly, Tailored Meal Plan analyzes users’ information by connecting to their Samsung Health profiles[4] to create personalized meals based on their wellness preferences.

AI-Enabled Connected Appliances and Features for an Enhanced Kitchen Every Day

With the Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+ as the center piece, the Samsung kitchen ecosystem is all about how the AI features in these kitchen products and the Samsung Food service connect to deliver a range of smart, connected kitchen experiences.

Samsung Food also connects to Samsung Health[5]. The feature uses the information collected from Samsung Health to suggest recipes that suit users’ preferences. After that, users can send cooking instructions for these recipes to their various kitchen appliances with just a few key presses.

Then there is Tap View[6], which allows users to easily mirror the display of their Galaxy smartphones on the Family Hub+ screen. Users can also enjoy videos form the YouTube application right from the refrigerator screen for more information and entertainment.

Samsung Electronics will mark the beginning of a new chapter for home appliances today at Bespoke Life 2023, the company’s third annual showcase of the latest updates to its Bespoke lineup. Streaming at 10:00 EDT (16:00 CEST, 23:00 KST) on Samsung’s official website, newsroom, and YouTube channel, the event will offer an opportunity to discover how the company’s expanded “Bespoke Life” vision is transforming users’ lives through sustainability, connectivity, and design.

“Bespoke Life embodies Samsung’s commitment to making our homes and future more sustainable by reimagining the appliances we rely on every day,” said Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of the DX (Device eXperience) Division at Samsung Electronics. “By introducing new and creative ways for users to ‘Bespoke’ their life, our latest products and solutions empower anyone to enjoy a more sustainable, connected, and stylish lifestyle.”

Sustainable Life – Technologies That Make a Positive Impact

Samsung’s Bespoke Life concept was born out of the belief that home appliances are key to creating a more sustainable tomorrow. Accordingly, this year’s Bespoke event will highlight Samsung’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions across the entire product lifecycle. It will also announce the launch of the new Less Microfiber Filter: a simple solution for minimizing microplastic emissions during laundry cycles[1].

From sourcing and production to distribution, usage, and recycling, Samsung is redesigning each stage of the product lifecycle to help reduce energy usage and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Examples of the company’s efforts to recycle more resources include operating a closed-loop recycling center, incorporating bioplastic material from waste oil into Bespoke refrigerators’ storage baskets, and expanding its use of recycled fishing nets.

To encourage energy-saving during the product use phase, Samsung continues to expand services that make saving energy more accessible. For example, this year, five new Bespoke appliances, including refrigerators, washers and dryers, dishwashers, and air conditioners, as well as Samsung’s Eco Heating System, will feature SmartThings AI Energy Mode, which will soon be available in 65 countries[2].

In addition to promoting reductions in carbon emissions and energy usage, Samsung continues to take an active role in reducing microplastic pollution. Samsung and Patagonia have teamed up once again to launch the Less Microfiber Filter. The Less Microfiber Filter is capable of capturing up to 98[3] of microfibers shed during laundry cycles. The Less Microfiber Filter is now available in Korea and the U.K., and will roll out to other countries in Q3 of this year.

Connected Life – Paving the Way for Hyper-Connected Homes

To “Bespoke” one’s life is to optimize devices in ways that streamline and empower your routine. By strengthening connectivity across the lineup and expanding AI to more product categories, Samsung is paving the way for a new era of hyper-connected homes.

Combining Samsung’s latest SmartThings enhancements and AI technology, Bespoke products offer a seamlessly automated home experience — one in which devices learn users’ usage patterns and provide personalized automation based on their smart home configuration and lifestyle. To make it easy for consumers to enjoy those experiences, Samsung has announced that it is integrating Wi-Fi support into all new Bespoke appliances and will make connectivity a standard in all Samsung appliance lineups in the coming years.

Samsung has also announced the launch of the Bespoke Jet AI — the company’s most powerful[4] cordless stick vacuum cleaner yet and is verified by UL (Underwriters Laboratories) Solutions, a leading independent safety science organization, for AI. Combining up to 280W[5] of suction power with a run time of up to 100 minutes[6] per charge, the Bespoke Jet AI offers the performance required to give one’s entire home a thorough clean. Its AI Cleaning Mode[7] intelligently monitors brush load and vacuuming air pressure to distinguish different cleaning environments,[8] including the floor type, and automatically optimizes settings such as suction power and brush speed[9] to maximize cleaning performance, usage time, and maneuverability. The vacuum also features a new All-in-One Clean Station that produces a powerful spinning cyclone to instantly and effectively[10] empty the dustbin.

Stylish Life – Taking Personalized Design to the Next Level

The three million Bespoke refrigerators that have been sold worldwide since the lineup’s launch underline consumers’ resounding interest in appliances that offer more options and functionality than products based on the old standards. Today, this rethinking of what appliances should offer users continues to define Bespoke design — a design approach that grows more dynamic and distinct each time it expands to a new product category.

As of this year, the Bespoke lineup now includes a total of 15 product categories available to consumers in 52 countries[11]. Each expansion of the lineup presents an opportunity to cater to more lifestyles and needs. With this in mind, Samsung is expanding its Bespoke refrigerator lineup with the launches of the Bespoke 4-Door Flex with Family Hub+, as well as new side-by-side model. The Bespoke 4-Door Flex with Family Hub+ features a bezel-less, 32-inch touchscreen that is nearly twice the size of the previous model and includes even more convenient and entertaining multitasking functions. The new side-by-side model combines some of Samsung’s most advanced food storage technology with sleek and minimalist front panels.

Around the globe, Samsung continues to expand its personalization options to empower more people to customize their home. In the U.S. since last year, Samsung’s MyBespoke customization service makes it easy for users to cultivate a kitchen look that truly reflects your way of life by using photos or artwork to create one-of-a-kind refrigerator panels. To further elevate Bespoke’s bold design ethos, the company has announced that the limited-edition Bespoke panels designed by Italian creative studio TOILETPAPER and first unveiled at Fuorisalone 2023 available at Samsung flagship stores in the U.K., U.S., and Korea.

To learn more about the next evolution of Bespoke, tune into Bespoke Life 2023 on June 7 at 10:00 EDT (16:00 CEST, 23:00 KST). The event will be streamed on Samsung’s global YouTube channel, Samsung Newsroom, and Samsung.com.

Convenient Features Maximize Performance

The Bespoke French Door Refrigerator comes packed with Samsung’s latest cooling and storage innovations. These convenient features provide families with freshly filtered water and offer them the freedom to customize cooling settings.

Built into the refrigerator’s interior to reduce the risk of contamination, the Beverage Center offers fast and easy access to refreshingly cold and naturally flavoured water. As soon as it is placed inside the fridge, the BPA free[1] Autofill Pitcher automatically fills with purified water, which can be infused with fruits and herbs to create deliciously flavoured beverages.

The Dual Auto Ice Maker produces both Cubed Ice and Ice BitesTM, which are smaller than ice cubes and can chill drinks much faster. It is capable of producing 5.3lbs (2.4kg) of ice per day and stores up to 9.9lbs(4.5kg)[2] – twice the amount of other ice makers. Its sliding cover makes it easy to use an ice scoop and helps protect ice from exposure to air when the freezer door is open.

The refrigerator’s FlexZone[3] helps keep foods fresh by storing them under optimal conditions. With five pre-set temperature modes, including Soft Freeze, Meat/Fish, Beverage, Deli and Wine, this independently controlled compartment offers families the flexibility to store a wide range of items depending on their needs.

Bigger Is Better

Modern families require fridges that cater to their cooking style with maximized storage space and preservation of freshness. With enhancements that create more room for families’ must-have items, the Bespoke French Door Refrigerator makes it easy for households to store more food more efficiently.

The 4-door model features 29 cubic feet of internal capacity, while the 3-door model features 30 cubic feet. The models’ spacious designs were made possible in part thanks to Samsung’s SpaceMax Technology. High-efficiency insulation enabled the refrigerator’s interior walls to be made thinner, creating more room for groceries.

With more households consuming fresh produce these days, the large-capacity Big Veggie Box offers a convenient space to keep all kinds of fruits and vegetables fresh. The compartment sends away messy fridges and wilted vegetables to the past by storing foods for a long time at optimal temperature. Creating more room for fresh produce saves space on the fridge’s shelves while also helping families save time and trips to the store.

The New Big Pantry[4], meanwhile, is a dedicated drawer that allows families to store more meat, poultry and other delicate ingredients like fish. Pre-prepared foods and meal kits fit perfectly inside so the fridge’s interior shelves can be kept neat and organized. There’s even a dedicated space for canned drinks to be stored upright.

More Fun With Family Hub

The platform’s features have been expanded for 2022 to make it easier for families to stay connected, organized and entertained.

We live in a fast-changing world that requires us to be constantly innovating and adapting. In line with this trend, Samsung Electronics’ latest products and technologies propose exciting new directions for various aspects of daily life.

CES 2022 offers visitors and online viewers an opportunity to see for themselves how Samsung has been innovating for the future. From displays and home appliances, to products and services that raise the bar for innovation, the company’s showcase at the world’s largest technology show offers a peek at what our daily lives will look like very soon.

Samsung’s CES 2022 booth is full of eye-catching innovations. But which products and technologies will viewers and visitors absolutely not want to miss? To answer that question, Samsung Newsroom went straight to the source, asking the experts behind the innovations which ones they think deserve a closer look.

In part one of this two-part series, Telly Lee, Vice President of Samsung’s Home Appliances Division and Jungrae Kim of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business will explain how Samsung designed its latest home appliances and portable screen to cater to consumers’ evolving lifestyles.

The Bespoke Kitchen: Home Appliances That Evolve in Line With Users’ Changing Lives

▲ Telly Lee, Vice President of Samsung’s Home Appliances Division and Head of the Kitchen Product Planning Group, with Samsung’s Bespoke French Door refrigerators

Q: What can you tell us about the home appliance products and technologies that are being showcased at CES 2022?

We are going to focus on introducing the Bespoke kitchen, in which refrigerators and colours are unified to great effect. The Bespoke kitchen begins with our flagship Bespoke refrigerators. We’ve expanded the Bespoke range to FDR (French Door refrigerators) in 4-door and 3-door models. This represents a significant expansion of our lineup following the release of Bespoke refrigerators in 4-Door Flex, Bottom Mount Freezer and 1-Door Column types in 2021.

One new point of innovation for Samsung’s Bespoke refrigerator is the Beverage Centre. Featuring a water dispenser hidden inside the door, the Beverage Centre offers a convenient solution that enables the fridge to feature a smooth exterior. Along with the new Bespoke refrigerators, we’re also showcasing other vibrant and colourful products that are part of the Bespoke kitchen like oven ranges and dishwashers.

These days, we’re seeing more customers choose modern designs for their kitchens. With Bespoke, we want to show that it’s possible to decorate your kitchen based on your individual tastes with a palette that includes colours that blend in with your interior, as well as accent colours[1].

At CES, we are also showcasing SmartThings Cooking, a service that introduces connected experiences to the kitchen. With this service, users can receive recipe recommendations and information to help them save time on both prep and cooking. SmartThings Cooking recommends recipes that fit your tastes and dietary preferences, then builds meal plans to match. As you’re cooking, it also sends recipe instructions directly to synced compatible Samsung cooking devices.

Q: What are some unique or attractive aspects of the new Bespoke offerings that you don’t want visitors at CES to miss?

First, I’d like to underline the expansion of the Bespoke range, which gives consumers who want their refrigerator to reflect their preferences in terms of colour and materials even more options to choose from. Since launching Bespoke in 2021, we’ve seen continuous demand for this type of customization. Delivering on this is one of the reasons we added the French Door refrigerator to our 2022 Bespoke refrigerator lineup. The panels come in twelve colours, which means that there are over 20,000 possible colour combinations for a four-door refrigerator alone.

Another can’t-miss aspect is the features. The Beverage Centre, for instance includes a 1.4-liter AutoFill water pitcher, as well as a Dual Auto Ice Maker that holds up to 4.1kg of ice. What’s more, the FlexZone offers five different temperature modes to help keep ingredients like meat, seafood, fruits and vegetables at optimal temperatures. These unique features help bring greater convenience to users’ daily lives.

Users also get to experience an even smarter kitchen with Family Hub, which is included in the latest Bespoke refrigerator lineup. By using the large screen on the front of the refrigerator users can enjoy music and videos in the kitchen and control kitchen appliances and smart devices too. With a screen that integrates seamlessly into the door panel, and with a highly aesthetic design and minimized bezels, the Bespoke Family Hub is capable of blending into almost any space.

▲ Samsung’s Bespoke Family Hub refrigerator

Q: Our way of life has changed dramatically over the past two years, with technology that connects people becoming more important as contactless ways of doing things increasingly become the norm. What kind of impact do you think the products and technologies showcased at CES 2022 will have on people’s lives?

As users have begun to spend more and more time at home, their lives have become more “home-centric.” We expect this trend to continue in 2022. At the same time, concern for sustainability continues to increase on the heels of events like the United Nations’ COP26 conference, and with environmental regulations being strengthened across the globe. With these shifts in consumer lifestyles and interests in mind, Samsung has been working to provide kitchen solutions that are “customized, smarter, and more sustainable.”

Our customized kitchen solutions cater to users who have been spending a lot of time in their kitchen and thus feel a stronger desire to remodel their space to reflect their tastes. By expanding our Bespoke lineup, we are providing a more diverse range of refrigerator types and colour options, helping users build customized kitchens that suit both their lifestyle and their interior design scheme.

Spending more time at home has naturally led to a rise in home cooking as well. To help make this easier by making kitchens “smarter”, Samsung introduced SmartThings Cooking[2], a tailored cooking journey service that can do everything from looking up recipes to creating a diet plan. Powered by Whisk’s Food AI, SmartThings Cooking recommends your personalized recipe and meal plans based on your tastes, dietary preferences and groceries you have on hand. When it comes time to cook, SmartThings ensures a seamless cooking experience while communicating directly with your smart Samsung kitchen appliances.

And with Family Hub, consumers can even utilize this service through the display on the front of their fridge while continuing to control other home appliances from it as well.

Finally, our kitchen solutions are becoming “more sustainable.” Samsung continues to innovate on this front, seeking out ways to incorporate cutting-edge technology into our appliances while keeping sustainability in mind as well.

The Freestyle : Designing a Projector That’s Not Limited by Space

▲ Jungrae Kim of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business proudly displays The Freestyle, a new portable screen introduced at CES.

Q: Could you walk us through how your team came up with The Freestyle?

Ever since the pandemic changed our daily lives, our personal spaces have become more and more important. This is particularly true of relaxing spaces like the bedroom, where we’re seeing more people using products for the purposes of entertainment. We’re also seeing more people utilize cozy and quiet spaces in their homes, as well as increased interest in spending time outdoors – by going camping, for example. We wanted to reflect these trends of our time in our products, and enable users to use them as they wish – anytime, anywhere, and regardless of space limitations. That’s how we came up with the personal, movable smart projector that is The Freestyle.

Q: What are unique points of the Freestyle?

The Freestyle was designed to offer users new levels of functionality. It’s easy to see what sets this product apart just by looking at it. To allow users to carry around every day, we designed The Freestyle to be lightweight, weighing just 830 grams. The fact that you can conveniently carry it with you wherever you go is its biggest advantage.

The Freestyle also features a simpler installation process. All users need to do is place The Freestyle wherever they want, and then turn it on. That’s it. The Freestyle comes with full auto keystone and auto leveling features, enabled by cutting edge technology. The features allow the device to automatically adjust its screen to any surface at any angle, providing a proportional image every time.

Users can enjoy a seamless and continuous viewing experience by accessing their user accounts and settings for various streaming apps and services. On top of that, we’ve also applied far-field voice control technology. So when the screen is turned on, users can search for content using just their voice. When the screen is off, they can use the device to listen to music or ask for the day’s weather just as they would with a smart speaker.

The Freestyle’s picture and sound quality – the most basic and important features of any display – also deserve a closer look. We applied Samsung TVs’ picture quality engine, and the white balance is adjusted automatically according to the colour and tone of the wall that the screen is being projected to. We also applied dual passive radiators to produce deep, high-quality bass. This allows customers to enjoy a cinema-like sound experience no matter where they are.

Q: In line with Samsung’s ‘Screens Everywhere’ vision, The Freestyle can be utilized in various ways for maximum convenience. What are some specific use cases for The Freestyle?

First of all, The Freestyle can be conveniently set up in a user’s bedroom. While lying in bed, before falling asleep, they can use the device’s integrated cradle to move the screen from the wall to the ceiling to continue watching a movie more comfortably. The Freestyle can also be placed lightly on a dining room table, transforming the room into a new space for entertainment.

For powering it up, The Freestyle is compatible with external batteries[3] that support USB-PD and 50W/20V output or above, so users can take it with them anywhere, whether they are on the move, on a camping trip and more. When it’s not used as a projector to stream content, The Freestyle also provides mood lighting effect thanks to its ambient mode and translucent lens cap [4].

Through close cooperation with Samsung’s MX (Mobile eXperience) Business, we’ve equipped The Freestyle with a button that syncs it with compatible Galaxy devices. With just a push of a button, users can instantly use their mobile device as a remote control[5]. They can also utilize mobile hotspots when no Wi-Fi networks are available. We’ve developed this product by paying close attention to even the smallest details, all to make the device just as convenient and easy to use outdoors as it is at home.

Content created in partnership with Toronto Star

Putting the “person” back into “personal technology,” Samsung unveiled a number of innovative new experiences at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) — held virtually for the first time in its 54-year history — many of which focused on where Canadians are spending most of their time: at home.

From breathtaking televisions and connected appliances to next-generation smartphones and even domestic robots, Samsung’s vision of a “Better Normal for All” paints a picture of deeper personalization, adaptive artificial intelligence (AI) and smart integration — all to empower people to find their best version of a new normal — together with a commitment to a more accessible and sustainable future.

Personalization

Evidenced by its CES showing, Samsung is placing the consumer at the centre of the action. It’s made Micro LED available in a traditional TV form factor for the first time, delivering a stunning visual experience on an ultra-large, next-generation screen. It uses tiny LEDs that allow for better (and more controllable) brightness and contrast — with unprecedented flexibility.

During the past year, we have all witnessed the pivotal role technology has played in helping us carry on with our lives and stay connected to each other. Samsung has taken QLED to the next level by enabling displays to have precise control of the individual LED pixels with its new Neo QLED. The 8K and 4K Neo QLED models offer smart features that expand the role of the TV and adapt to the ever-changing needs in fitness, entertainment and the home office.

Versatility is important when it comes to technology. With the multi-view option, you can split the screen up to four ways on Micro LED or Neo QLED 8K for the purpose of watching various content, such as a news channel with scrolling headlines in one quadrant, a hockey game in another, a TV show (with audio) in a third and a TV guide in a fourth.

Acknowledging that many Canadians are now using their space in a shared capacity during the pandemic, Samsung Health Smart Trainer on Samsung 2021 TVs is a service that turns your home into a personalized gym experience. On your screen, you’ll see the video of a coach (and your form, as well) and receive real-time feedback on your progress, how many reps are left, and more. With Bixby-enabled voice control, you can ask for recommended classes based on your tastes, and Bixby also remembers your preferred style of workout, intensity and trainer.

That same level of customization is also evident in the Galaxy S21 Series 5G smartphone, also unveiled during CES.

With a new bold and iconic design and pro-grade camera and video capabilities, the Galaxy S21 Series 5G is the smartphone lineup that empowers you to share your world and connect with the things and people that matter most. The Galaxy S21 Series 5G smartphone comes in three models to fit your lifestyle and feature needs and is available in new and exciting colours to reflect your unique personality and style.

Beyond the living area, Samsung personalization extends into the kitchen with the Samsung Bespoke Refrigerator. “With Canadians spending more time at home, the kitchen has become increasingly central to their lifestyle. Families are investing in appliances that truly reflect their tastes and respond to their needs,” said Pat Bugos, VP/Head of Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics Canada. The Samsung Bespoke Refrigerator is a unique blend of personalized aesthetic with premium refrigeration. It features customizable outside panels in a variety of colours, materials and finishes to reflect your personal style, together with customizable and convertible compartments on the inside.

If you own a Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator, on the other hand, you might take advantage of SmartThings Cooking (available via the SmartThings app). SmartThings Cooking is a collection of recipes seen on a large screen at the front of the appliance that are tailored to your personal preferences or diet (such as vegan) as well as ingredients currently in your fridge. When you tap on something you’d like to make, swipe through step-by-step instructions — and then send instructions from the fridge to a compatible Samsung oven to preheat at the correct temperature (note: a Wi-Fi connection and Samsung Account are required).

Artificial Intelligence

While there’s AI in Samsung televisions, appliances and smartphones, the company dominated the buzz at CES with its look at futuristic human-centric robots.

Samsung Bot Handy, for example, is a domestic robot prototype that can roam around a home to perform chores such as pick up clothes from the floor, set the table or load dirty dishes into a dishwasher. It can even pour a glass of wine.

While very much a conceptual demonstration rather than a ready-to-ship product at this point, the tall and thin Bot Handy will be powered by AI, a camera and a versatile arm to accomplish all its tasks.

While Bot Handy is designed to service your home, Samsung Bot Care will be created to assist homeowners.

Bot Care leverages AI to recognize and understand your behaviours in an effort to be a more effective personal companion such as measuring your heart rate, breathing and more — and can alert users when they need to take their medicine. For elderly users who might live alone, it could notify caregivers, such as remote family members, if someone is experiencing an emergency. While still in its research and development stage, it’s a glimpse into the future of personal self-care.

Responsible tech

At CES 2021, Samsung discussed its deeper commitment to sustainability. Together with investing in people — ranging from STEM-focused educational programs to comprehensive accessibility features for greater inclusion — Samsung has vowed to create more eco-conscious products and packaging.

For example, AI-powered washing machines can save water and power by optimizing water, detergent and wash cycles.

Upcoming TVs from Samsung will include a remote made entirely out of recycled plastic — and won’t require batteries as it will charge via overhead lighting. In 2021, Samsung will also bring its eco-packaging solutions to all TV and soundbar products.

Finally, Galaxy Upcycling at Home is a program that reimagines the lifecycle of an older Galaxy phone, allowing the user to transform it into a new device with a new purpose, such as turning it into a baby monitor or security camera.

As a global leader in technology, breaking down barriers to a better future will continue to be pivotal to Samsung’s mission as it puts people, society and the planet at the centre of its work.

Samsung is bringing a popular Family HubTM feature to smartphone users with SmartThings Cooking Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. recently announced at CES 2021

Samsung is bringing a popular Family HubTM feature to smartphone users with SmartThings Cooking

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. recently announced at CES 2021 that it is making one of its most popular Family Hub features available in the SmartThings app. Family Hub won its sixth consecutive CES Innovation Award this year—a testament to Samsung’s innovative strides in offering families smarter and more seamless kitchen experiences.

SmartThings Cooking recommends recipes that fit your tastes and dietary restrictions, then builds weekly meal plans to match. As you’re cooking, it sends recipe instructions directly to synced Samsung cooking devices—so the New Front Control Slide-in Range[1] can automatically preheat, while SmartThings Cooking guides you through every step of meal preparation.

“With more Canadians spending time at home, the kitchen has become central for families as they look for smarter cooking and streamlined meal planning,” said Pat Bugos, Vice President, Consumer Electronics, Samsung Canada. “SmartThings Cooking seamlessly turns your kitchen into a one-stop-shop for an improved culinary experience, inspiring consumers who are cooking and experimenting in the kitchen like never before.”

Smarter Meal Planning from Screen to Table: A New Kitchen Experience

As people spend more time in the kitchen and seek out new recipes, Samsung’s SmartThings Cooking service can help by bringing all of your Samsung kitchen appliances together, offering a seamless journey that allows you to search, plan, and prep weekly meals via the SmartThings app on your Family Hub or smartphone—a single platform that you can access at your convenience[2].

SmartThings Cooking recommends personalized recipes based on your unique taste and preferences—as well as what’s on hand—to curate personalized recipe recommendations so you can plan meals for your family more efficiently. You can even browse the categorized recipe collections to match your craving, ingredient choice, or mood.

Every recipe is laid out to guide you through the simplified cooking process and timing, explaining each step like an at-home cooking class.

SmartThings Cooking is powered by Whisk, a smart food platform acquired by Samsung NEXT. Whisk’s Food AI brings together user preferences, intent, and environmental factors to deliver personalized cooking experiences. Simply save a few of your favourite recipes into the recipe box and, if you wish, share your personal food preferences and your location to the platform. You will then receive customized recommendations.

Although SmartThings Cooking is a standalone service accessible via the SmartThings app,[3] Family Hub owners can also enjoy meal planning conveniently from their fridge.[4] The smart fridge offers a full-screen dedicated board optimized for SmartThings Cooking which works with Family Hub to understand what’s inside the fridge.

Samsung’s Family Hub for 2021 also brings powerful new capabilities that make it the centre of a smart home. Widgets for the most frequently used functions have become easier to use, with a larger music widget that includes personalized recommendations and an upgraded SmartThings widget that serves as a dashboard for all your smart home devices. Family members can upload photos, notes, and more to any screen so that you can use all of the Family Hub screens like the Family Board feature, first introduced in 2019.

More information on SmartThings Cooking and Family Hub will be on display at Samsung’s virtual CES exhibit from January 11 to 14, 2021.
Samsung sets the standard for the modern home with a lineup of connected, beautifully designed lifestyle products that meet the needs of today’s homebuyers,

Samsung sets the standard for the modern home with a lineup of connected, beautifully designed lifestyle products that meet the needs of today’s homebuyers, builders, and designers

With millennials poised to become the largest group of homebuyers this year, today’s customers are looking for home appliances that connect seamlessly, fit their lifestyles, and match their unique personalities. That is exactly what they can expect from Samsung, which recently showcased its broad portfolio of lifestyle home appliance products at the 2020 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show.

“As a leader in home appliances, we’re proud to offer a variety of innovative products for Canadians and their homes,” said Warner Doell, Senior Vice President, Consumer Electronics, Samsung Canada. “We’re demonstrating how personalized, connected products simplify everyday tasks so that you can spend more time doing what you love, with the people you love, in the space you love.”

Our living spaces are evolving. Home is no longer viewed as just a kitchen, a living room, and a bedroom. It’s where our friends and family members gather to share and relax with one another. At the same time, the boundaries between our physical and digital worlds are shrinking.

Samsung offers home appliances that help reduce those boundaries through connectivity. These appliances are as beautiful as they are functional, allowing customers to design and personalize their living spaces. No matter which type of product you are looking for, you will find design and colour options that complement both your personal style and your home’s décor.

At KBIS 2020, Samsung highlighted connected products and, more importantly, curated experiences—an ecosystem of intelligent products that make household tasks more convenient than ever, freeing you up to do the things you enjoy most. That means ranges you can control via your favourite voice assistant, so you can adjust the time or temperature while you’re busy chopping vegetables.

Customers can experience the power of the Samsung connected home, including the one at the centre of the smart home: the Family Hub. Family Hub serves as a smart home control hub, enabling family members to share life’s important moments with one another, and manage smart devices within their home. You can order groceries, share videos from your smartphone, view multiple cameras at-a-glance, and even be notified when your laundry is done—all on the screen of your refrigerator.

Samsung showcased the new side-by-side refrigerator lineup, the new French door refrigerator lineup, the new slide-in range lineup, 4-Door Bespoke refrigerator, Jet stick vacuum cleaner, and AirDresser.

In addition to offering solutions for homeowners, Samsung is also showcasing solutions for the home builder industry at KBIS. As the builder segment has grown, Samsung has invested heavily in products and programs specifically for home builder, designer, and distributor businesses. With design, performance, and connectivity, Samsung is uniquely positioned to provide everything builders need to deliver the experiences that their customers expect from them.—and does it with a broad lineup of home appliances, from entry-level to premium.

The next-generation Family Hub features new AI capabilities to streamline meal planning from the grocery store to your home Samsung Electronics today unveiled

The next-generation Family Hub features new AI capabilities to streamline meal planning from the grocery store to your home

Samsung Electronics today unveiled the latest edition of its Family Hub refrigerator with intelligent new features that automate meal planning and other daily tasks and deliver a more personalized experience. Family Hub for 2020 will enable families to more easily share life’s important moments with one another and control more of the connected devices within their smart home.

“In the five years since we launched Family Hub, we have introduced innovations that reflect the new ways that busy, modern families are managing their daily lives,” said John Herrington, Senior Vice President, General Manager of Home Appliances, Samsung Electronics America. “The latest Family Hub is the most innovative yet, with more personalized, intelligent features that enable busy families to stay better connected to one another.”

The latest version of Family Hub is simple, sophisticated, and modern, making it the perfect addition to today’s connected kitchen. In response to years of consumer insights with Family Hub, the next generation delivers innovative features that people want the most: AI-enhanced cameras inside the refrigerator and improved, thoughtful meal planning and recipe suggestions tailored to personal preferences. The new Family Hub also enables families to share more types of media and entertainment together and brings a new level of control to the connected home.

Intelligent Meal Planning

Family Hub is now more streamlined and more personalized, meaning you’ll spend less time preparing your meals and more time enjoying them. It customizes the entire food experience for you—recommending Smart Recipes based on the dietary preferences you set, helping you come up with a weeklong Meal Plan based on your refrigerator inventory, and preparing your Shopping List with all the right ingredients.

Family Hub’s ViewInside cameras have been upgraded with brand-new AI image recognition technology which automatically scans the products inside your fridge, identifies them, and sends you updates on items your family has added or depleted. Family Hub’s Meal Planner is also smarter, with the Quick Plan feature now offering a week’s worth of recommended recipes with just one click.

Bring Your Family Closer

Since the launch of the Family Board last year, families have been using this virtual bulletin board to enhance life’s special moments and to share favourite songs and images for the whole family to interact with. Now, for the first time, the Family Board supports video clips so you can transfer videos from your smartphone to the refrigerator and relive important memories together.

To make sharing easier, Family Hub has also updated the SmartView feature, which mirrors content from connected Samsung TVs and Samsung mobile devices. With portrait mode, you can enjoy vertical smartphone videos as well as your favourite social media content on the full screen of Family Hub. With almost half a dozen options available, your family members can continue to enjoy music from their favourite music streaming apps.

Connect and Control Your Smart Home

The new Family Hub takes managing your smart home to the next level. You can monitor and control over 1,000 SmartThings-compatible products throughout your home: turn your lights on or off, see who’s at the front door, set the temperature, and lock the front door. And with the addition of the new SmartThings Video widget, you can now view multiple security cameras at-a-glance to keep an eye on your entire home from the kitchen.
