The six-episode season will highlight an exciting new addition: Samsung Bespoke kitchen appliances. This 3-part series will introduce the journey Bespoke has taken so far as it evolved to deliver greater value by expanding the capabilities of home appliances.

As Part One of this series, this article will detail the decisions behind the design innovations that evolved the Bespoke design ethos, from colours and cultures to true customizations.

Adding Colour and Texture to “White Goods”

The Flat Style minimalist design philosophy – the theory that simple, clean lines and flush surfaces would be ideal in matching modern home décor – was the driving inspiration behind Bespoke home appliances. Such designs could easily fit into any modern kitchen concept, creating a sense of cohesion with the surrounding space.  In addition, customizable façades on the exterior would allow consumers to express themselves through a variety of striking colour options and material finishes.

Refrigerators were the first appliances in the Bespoke journey of elevating home appliance designs. Since then, Bespoke has expanded to the rest of the home to include an entire kitchen package which now includes ovens, dishwashers and cooktops as well as living and laundry appliances such as vacuum cleaners, washers and dryers.

Bespoke product line up in EU

It became clear very quickly that the Bespoke design concept resonated with users who wanted their appliances to reflect their own diverse tastes, and even the industry took notice. In 2020, the Bespoke refrigerator won NYCxDESIGN Awards in the Kitchen product category and was selected as an honouree at CES 2021, in recognition of Bespoke’s creative use of design in offering users a way to easily personalize their appliances. Bespoke appliances received a silver award and Best-in-Show honours at the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) in 2021 and gold at the International Forum (iF) Design Award in 2022.

Since its initial launch, the Bespoke product line would expand into more kitchen appliances and then the rest of the home with living and laundry appliances as well as more colour and material options. The team behind Bespoke’s designs decided that a continuous cycle of new colours for Bespoke appliances would make it easier for users to find the design that best reflects their unique lifestyle.

For users who may find deciding on home décor daunting, in 2021, Samsung introduced the Bespoke AI Recommendation service in Korea. This service helped make appliance designing more accessible with the help of AI. Users would upload photos of their homes or designs they liked, and the AI would analyze the images to come up with colour recommendations that best fits that environment.

As bold as these appliances were in a sea of “white goods,” however, Samsung knew the vision could not end with just colour and material options. With Bespoke, true customization is more than choice – it’s also about personalization.

AI Recommendation

From Colours to Culture

Diving deeper into the Bespoke design vision, Samsung sought to highlight key identifying factors shared by all Bespoke users – a sense of belonging through culture. Collaborating with artists from a wide range of disciplines as well as Bespoke users themselves, Samsung wanted to reflect cultures from around the globe in Bespoke refrigerator panel designs.

This year, Samsung introduced the Union Jack flag as a new design option for Bespoke refrigerators in the U.K., recognizing the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne.

In May 2021, Samsung held design contests on social media in collaboration with designers, including award-wining British interior designer Kelly Hoppen CBE and London-based designer Yinka Ilori. The contests were themed around two of the most important passions in the kitchen – inspirational designs and inspirational food. In Europe, through the #BespokeDesignedByYou design challenge, Samsung invited users to share their own unique refrigerator designs based on how Bespoke sparks creativity in the kitchen. In the U.S., Samsung launched the #BespokeDinnerParty challenge, where users shared their perfect Bespoke dinner party plans with cocktails, flower arrangements, dinnerware and food inspired by bold Bespoke colours.

Before that, many artists took part in developing Bespoke’s designs. French illustrator Hérem added European architecture into the design, while American artist Rementer added colourful portraits of diverse communities through the lens of pop art. Danish design company HAY experimented with natural food-inspired colours and American artist Alex Proba expressed joy and happiness with colourful patterns and shapes inspired by nature.

These artist and user-involved design experiences would serve as a prologue to the next evolution of Bespoke’s designs.

The Next Level of Bespoke Customization

If using different colours offers users a way to be expressive and identify with cultures through a sense of belonging, the next level in Bespoke design would be true self-expression. As such, Samsung is now offering users a truly self-expressive Bespoke customization experience from start to finish.

Bespoke’s concept of true customization began to take shape with design contests worldwide. The excitement and enthusiasm expressed by the participants from these contests inspired the beginning of the digital printing service called MyBespoke in the U.S.

With MyBespoke, Samsung will arrive at the latest evolution of Bespoke design, shifting from self-expression through preselected options to a truly Bespoke customization experience where users can create their own designs from scratch.

At the start of Bespoke’s design journey, there was a vision to inspire users to personalize their homes with designs that truly reflect who they are. With the MyBespoke launch, Samsung is one step closer to making that vision a reality. Samsung will continue to innovate to expand design, experience and customization options to make life at home more expressive and enjoyable.

Samsung Electronics Canada today announced that the expanded Bespoke kitchen lineup is now available in Canada. First unveiled at CES 2022 and launched globally earlier this spring, the new Bespoke French Door Refrigerator joins the growing Bespoke family of Samsung appliances in Canada in new three-door, four-door and four-door with Family Hub configurations, alongside the new Bespoke dishwasher, range and over-the-range microwave.

The Dual Auto Ice Maker produces both Cubed Ice and Ice Bites^TM, which are smaller than ice cubes and can chill drinks much faster. It is capable of producing 5.3lbs (2.4kg) of ice per day and stores up to 9.9lbs(4.5kg)^[2] – twice the amount of other ice makers. Its sliding cover makes it easy to use an ice scoop and helps protect ice from exposure to air when the freezer door is open.

The refrigerator’s FlexZone^[3] helps keep foods fresh by storing them under optimal conditions. With five pre-set temperature modes, including Soft Freeze, Meat/Fish, Beverage, Deli and Wine, this independently controlled compartment offers families the flexibility to store a wide range of items depending on their needs.

Bigger Is Better

Modern families require fridges that cater to their cooking style with maximized storage space and preservation of freshness. The 4-door model features 29 cubic feet of internal capacity, while the 3-door model features 30 cubic feet. More Fun With Family Hub

Now, in addition to sharing photos and messages, families can use Family Hub to listen to music and enjoy continuous viewing experiences by mirroring content from their Samsung Smart TV or Samsung Galaxy smartphone.^[5] View Inside lets families remotely peek inside their fridge, tag food types and create shopping lists and reminders, and has been upgraded to identify items more accurately.

With new built-in Alexa support, Family Hub will also allow consumers to access key Amazon^[6] services right from their refrigerator. Families will be able to talk to Alexa and listen to Amazon Music and Audible^[7].

The Bespoke Jet also features a modern, premium design that is powerful yet light, and built to offer families a comprehensive cleaning solution. It provides 210W[1] of suction power and uses a multi-layered filtration system to trap 99.999 percent of fine dust[2], delivering a powerful yet simple cleaning experience to the contemporary home.

Bespoke Washer and Dryer

Designed to introduce Bespoke to the laundry room, the Bespoke Washer and Dryer include cutting-edge smart features that make doing laundry intuitive and efficient. Both devices feature a flat-front design and are available in multiple colour options, including black and navy.

By learning usage patterns and laundry routines, the AI-powered Smart Dial prioritizes frequently used settings, helping minimizing work and simplifying the washing and drying process. Samsung Electronics today announced that it had reaffirmed its position as a top-five brand in Interbrand’s Best Global Brands 2021. Interbrand, a global consulting firm, evaluates businesses’ brand value based on a comprehensive analysis of multiple factors including financial performance, brand influence on purchase and brand competitiveness.

According to the Best Global Brands list announced by Interbrand on October 20 (local time), Samsung ranked fifth with a brand value of USD 74.6 billion, a 20% increase compared to last year. On the back of its strong financial performance —which has recovered to reach pre-pandemic levels — the company’s brand value surged by 20% this year, twice the average brand value growth rate among the top 100 brands in 2021.

Since entering the top five for the first time last year, Samsung has maintained its position for two consecutive years with its largest increase in brand value since 2013.

According to Interbrand, major factors that played a critical role in the growth of Samsung include:

• Its transition to a customer-centric management system, highlighted by the establishment of a new CX (customer experience) team dedicated to prioritizing customer experience and values
• Its ongoing efforts for sustainable development, including various campaigns guided by its CSR vision, ‘Together for Tomorrow! Enabling People,’ as well as company-wide initiatives that promote sustainability such as the use of eco-packaging for TVs and the Galaxy Upcycling program
• The launches of innovative products including the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, Neo QLEDs and the Bespoke lineup of home appliances

Today, Samsung Electronics Canada has ushered in the next generation of kitchen design with the announcement of Bespoke, its new customizable refrigerators, now available for pre-order in Canada.

Samsung’s Bespoke lineup, available in 4-Door Flex and 1-Door Column models, is a unique blend of personalized aesthetic with premium refrigeration. The range features customizable outside panels with colours, materials and finishes to reflect a variety of personal styles, along with customizable and convertible compartments on the inside.

“With kitchens so often being the hub of Canadian homes, we wanted to offer consumers an appliance that not only fulfills a need, but also reflects the personal style of their home,” said Pat Bugos, VP/Head of Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics Canada. “Our new Bespoke refrigerator offers Canadians more than just a home appliance. To help Canadians design their refrigerator and showcase their own style, Bespoke will be available in a multitude of colours and finishes. The 4-Door Flex model features eight different colours, including Rose Pink and Navy, with three distinct finishes, glass, matte glass or steel, offering a combination of design options. Moreover, the 1-Door Column model boasts six colours, including an exclusive beige option, with glass, matte glass or steel finishes.

With the ability to swap the refrigerator’s panels, Bespoke offers consumers the opportunity to change their kitchen design as their style and needs evolve. Additionally, the 1-Door Column model provides the ability to combine or remove units in their entirety, ideal for consumers who are upsizing or downsizing their homes.

Canadians can design their own Bespoke refrigerator via the BESPOKE Design Studio on Samsung.com/ca, which highlights the refrigerator’s full range of styles and allows users to choose the one that best matches their kitchen décor. Whether it’s a classic 4-Door Flex, or a simple 1-Door Column, Canadians can create a Bespoke fridge that fits their desired aesthetics.

Bespoke comes in over 20 original colours and seven finishes worldwide, providing a generous number of combinations to choose from. The Bespoke refrigerator also offers Samsung’s trademark large capacity, convenience, and powerful cooling performance. In Canada, consumers can choose from a 4-Door Flex Refrigerator, 24” 1-Door Column Refrigerator or 24” 1-Door Column Freezer in a variety of unique colours.

A Kitchen Packaged for You

The new Bespoke kitchen package is Samsung’s first global expansion of Bespoke products beyond refrigerators, bringing the philosophy of customized appliances to the entire kitchen. The North American offering centres on the company’s flagship Bespoke refrigerators and expands to include a Bespoke range, microwave oven and dishwasher, exquisitely built in the same look-and-feel as the refrigerator. The package allows customers to unify or mix and match their kitchen aesthetic around their favourite colour and finish, with choice of Matte Black Steel, Navy Steel, Champagne Rose Steel and White Glass.

Appliances that Plug Right into Your Lifestyle

Samsung will expand its lineup of purposeful lifestyle appliances, including Bespoke AirDresser, Bespoke air purifier, and Bespoke Jet stick vacuum cleaner. With homes doubling as offices, gyms and classrooms, these new Bespoke Home appliances address day-to-day needs by providing more flexibility, automation and cleanliness.

New lifestyle appliances include:

• Bespoke AirDresser delivers a range of clothing care solutions to ensure that garments are kept in tip-top shape with upgraded Bespoke style.
• Bespoke air purifier draws air from five directions to purify the air rapidly and intensively, even in large spaces. Its ultrafine purification system can remove 99.999 percent of 0.01µm dust[1], while the 3 Way smart discharge circulates clean air in various directions.
• Bespoke Jet comes with a Clean Station and charging station attached, offering users a comprehensive cleaning solution. Once done vacuuming, the user simply docks the vacuum and it’ll empty and charge on its own.
• Jet Bot AI+ is the first robot vacuum to come equipped with an Intel® AI solution. The smart vacuum leverages its object recognition technology, along with its LiDAR and 3D sensors to identify objects and determine the optimal cleaning path. Also outfitted with a camera, Jet Bot AI+ is integrated with the SmartThings app to assist with remote home monitoring.

SmartThings Support Your Connected Life

Samsung’s vision for the Bespoke Home also emphasizes connected living through AI and automation. Driving this vision is Samsung’s SmartThings, which provides users with a centralized and effortless home management platform.

• SmartThings Cooking provides personalized meal plans and recipes that reflect user preferences and fridge inventory, automatically applying cooking temperatures and modes based on each recipe directly to synced cooking appliances[2].
• SmartThings Pet syncs with home appliances like the Bespoke air purifier and Jet Bot AI+ robot vacuum to let users check on their pet when not at home.
• SmartThings Clothing Care syncs with the Bespoke AirDresser as well as smart washers and dryers to make laundry days more efficient. The service recommends device cycles and settings for optimal care, taking out the guesswork.
• SmartThings Air syncs with Samsung’s air purifier and air conditioner to monitor air quality in and outside the user’s home in real time.
