Since 2002, Samsung Electronics has been sharing its philosophy and vision for the year ahead – and beyond – through a total of 6 keynote addresses at CES. At CES 2022, the first CES event to be held offline in two years due to the pandemic, Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman and CEO at Samsung Electronics, is set to walk onto the stage and present his keynote address under the headline ‘Together for tomorrow’ to present the direction for technological development going forward.

Ahead of Han’s keynote at CES 2022, Samsung Newsroom has compiled the key topics and technological trends presented at Samsung’s CES keynote addresses between 2011 and 2020 to provide an insight into the evolution of the phrase ‘future technology’ what really means.

1. 2011: Human Digitalism

The main topic at Samsung’s 2011 CES keynote was the convergence of digital technology and human beings. Humanism, a philosophy that originated in the culture and arts fields, had recently reached the technology industry and become the latest trend. Illustrating this development, Samsung’s keynote that year centered on the concept of human digitalism, and throughout the address, the company advocated for the “reinterpretation of technology”, an idea that sees the values that human beings fundamentally pursue combined with advanced technologies.

BK Yoon, back then President and Head of Samsung’s Visual Display Business, outlined four guiding principles to underlie human digitalism. These are: interacting with the world in an easy and convenient manner anytime, anywhere; creating products that blend naturally and seamlessly into consumers’ lifestyles; providing enjoyment through new discoveries; and pursuing corporate social responsibility that prioritizes the environment and pursuing a better tomorrow. The company also outlined its plan to apply this vision of human digitalism to all its technologies and products in order to bring about a new digital paradigm shift.

2. Mobilizing Possibility

In 2013, it was the very center of all electronic products – their components – that was gaining attention. Accordingly, in their CES keynote address, Samsung introduced its processor – the brain of their mobile devices – its energy-efficient memory solutions – which help reduce electricity usage – and YOUM, its next-generation flexible display line-up.

The keynote speech, delivered by Dr. Stephen Woo, back then President of System LSI Business of Device Solutions Division of Samsung Electronics, highlighted how society and consumers’ lives are set to benefit from the innovations generated when such advanced component technologies go beyond their boundaries and unite with various technological fields.

3. 2015: Unlocking the Infinite Possibilities of IoT

At its 2015 CES keynote address, Samsung presented its blueprint for what the era of IoT the company planned to realize will look like. Samsung’s blueprint envisioned a world in which all kinds of products would move forward together with digital technology. In addition, Samsung introduced its essential technologies for realizing this IoT-powered world, including ultra-small, energy-efficient and intelligent sensors and semiconductor chips. BK Yoon, back then President and Head of CE division, emphasized the importance of open platforms in order to achieve a true realization of this vision, and accordingly introduced the SmartThings platform, a hub for all kinds of smart devices and services.

4. 2016: IoT, In Sync With Real Life

In their 2016 keynote address, Samsung introduced stories of how IoT had become part of daily life to the audience. Samsung began the keynote by introducing the three key elements of IoT: performance, user environment and security. Dr. WP Hong, back then President of Samsung SDS, introduced their innovative technologies, such as the Samsung Family Hub refrigerator which is a perfect example of IoT playing a role in the home environment. Samsung also affirmed its commitment to providing infinite value to its consumers by expanding its platform openness through cross-industry collaboration going forward.

5. 2020: Age of Experiences

At the beginning of a new decade, Samsung opened CES 2020 with a keynote address that heralded the beginning of a new age, the ‘Age of Experiences’ – the age in which personal preferences and experiences are foremost. The keynote speaker H.S. Kim, back then Samsung Consumer Electronics President and CEO, also shared the company’s vision for the electronics industry over the upcoming 10 years, which highlighted that, by merit of users that prioritize their experience and enjoyment of their products rather than just their ownership of them, personalized technologies able to satisfy each individual’s needs, smart homes and cities and robotic life companions are set to become more important. Samsung also emphasized in the keynote that it will become even more committed to expanding and advancing technologies by focusing on a better future for the users as the driving force and ultimate purpose behind their development.

And ‘Together for Tomorrow’ in 2022

At the upcoming CES 2022, Samsung is set to give its keynote address under the theme of the ‘Together for tomorrow’, within which the idea that ‘technology should exist for humanity and the Earth’ is paramount.

Samsung is set to introduce its multifaceted efforts to contribute to making life on Earth more sustainable, and emphasize the need for everyone to participate in reducing climate change wherever they may be. The company will also be introducing its latest innovative technologies to help users enjoy even more enriched lifestyles based on optimized, customized service for each and every person, along with enhanced experiences of being connected to one another.

Samsung Electronics, a market leader and award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, semiconductors and telecommunications, today announced that it won 80 prestigious awards at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015 Innovations Awards. CES, the world’s largest consumer technology tradeshow held by the Consumer Electronics Association® (CEA) every year, has honored Samsung with prestigious awards, including 76 awards last year.

Among the CES awards for 2015, Samsung was recognized with one Best of Innovation award, 31 Best of Home Entertainment honors and several others for connected home technologies. Samsung introduced its new Flex Duo with Dual Door oven at the CES 2015 Press Conference, and since it is being proudly displayed here at the Samsung booth, we decided to take a closer look.

Without even opening the oven, the first thing you notice is the dual door. Many people are used to the single door of conventional ovens, so the fact that it has two doors is definitely a fresh start.

Let’s dig into Flex Duo with Dual Door oven a bit deeper.

Samsung actually introduced the concept of ‘Flex Duo Oven’ about 4 years ago. This was thought to offer a new cooking routine for many households as it enabled them to cook two dishes in the oven at the same time or switch from a large single cavity to two smaller cavities with independently controlled temperatures, no transferring aroma or taste.

So what is new with the Flex Duo with Dual Door oven?

As you can see, the upper door provides access to a small top compartment and with the Smart Divider slotted inside the oven, you can use the full door, which opens the top and bottom cavities.

This means that you can roast vegetables and prepare a dessert while simultaneously slow cooking meat undisturbed for hours in the lower section.

Having two doors is not only more convenient but also ensures constant temperatures by minimizing loss of heat, making it energy efficient as well.

On the bottom of the oven, you can see the warming drawer, which is perfect for keeping dishes warm while you wait for other things to cook or guests to arrive. Overall, the Flex Duo with Dual Door oven offers added flexibility. CES agrees too. Samsung Flex Duo Oven Range with Dual Door is a CES Innovation Award honoree this year!

If you take a walk around the Samsung booth here at CES 2015, one thing you cannot miss is the ‘curve’; even the entrance is curved shape. Along with its ambitious vision for IoT, Samsung is also showcasing the new industry trend, the curvature.

One of the many advanced curved gadgets that are being displayed here at Samsung booth is Samsung’s latest and most advanced curved monitor, SE790C. That is what we are about to check out.

The booth is making it clear why its latest curved monitor is curved. It is ‘curved comfortably around eyes.’ For those of you who don’t understand this, here is the brief explanation of the reasoning of the curved display. Not only is the curved screen shaped to match the natural curvature of the human eye, but also no matter where the eye looks, the picture will be most vivid. Therefore, the curved screen will provide the most comfortable viewing experience for your eyes.

Two different sizes for the curved monitor are being displayed: the 34-inch and the 27-inch. For now, let’s talk about the bigger one.

In terms of general features, the 34” curved monitor features ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio (Ultra WQHD) with 3440 x 1440 resolution, which is 2.5 times the pixel density of Full HD. It also features the 3,000:1 static contrast ratio

If you are overwhelmed by the numbers above, here is basically what it is like standing (or sitting) in front of the curved monitor. The first thing you’ll feel is how panoramic the monitor feels (the 21:9 aspect ratio). You will also feel that black is blacker and white is whiter; generally the colors are brighter more real than you’ve ever experienced in high pixel density and contrast ratio.

Even though it has an ultra-wide screen, the curvature of the display (3000R) and the 178° wide viewing angle horizontally and vertically, make the viewing feel easy on your eyes.

And talking about being easy on the eyes, the curved monitor features the Flicker Free technology. As you can see from the photo, the monitor does not have any flickering. The Flicker Free technology can help lessen your eye fatigue.

This screen also has a very fast response time of 4ms and 60 Hz Refresh Rate, which means less motion blur caused by fast on-screen motion.

If you have the chance to take a look at the curved monitor SE790C, you should; it is definitely an upgrade. And when you do, be sure to check out the exterior of it as well. It is easy to get lost in the picture quality, and not focus on what a great looking screen this is

The first thing you’ll notice about the exterior design will be the metallic frame and the curved T-shaped metallic Height Adjustable Stand (adjustable up to approximately 100mm.) The monitor is also tilt-able.

If you take a look at the back of the monitor, you’ll realize that it has a VESA 100 x 100, which means you can mount it easily on a wall. It also supports 2 HDMI ports, 1 display port, and 4 USB 3.0 ports.

You’ll also notice that it has built-in speakers. These speakers are 7-Watt 2-channel dual stereo. Samsung has implemented its Dual Sound Engine and acoustic mechanical engineering technology on it for better sound, which can come pretty handy as well.

There are more things to check out such as the Picture-by-Picture feature, which lets you view 2 different input sources on one screen with the picture quality of the original source, and the Picture-in-Picture 2.0, which lets you resize the second picture to cover up to 25% of the screen and position it anywhere. We also really wanted to check out the Game Mode, which enhances the darkness of the picture, but we weren’t able to play around with the monitor as much as we would have liked.

People, this is a cooking top attracting people’s attention at an electronics show – a STOVE. Of course we need to talk about it. So, we got together with the engineers behind this genius idea. So, how did the latest innovation in flames come to be?

“Is the thing on or not?”

When using an induction cooktop, many users find it difficult to ‘see’ if it is heating properly. This has been more of a disadvantage than a feature. Users can press the buttons on the stove to control the heat level, which is convenient, but it is not really possible to actually observe or feel it. Samsung’s response to this consumer insight is the Virtual Flame Technology, which mimics the visual feedback of gas stove flames to offer an intuitive display of the level of heat.

The Samsung Chef Collection Slide-In Range with Virtual Flame Technology ^TM was first released in the U.S. in June. Adding an analogue ‘sense of warmth’ to a digital induction cooktop, Virtual Flame Technology ^TM is going increasingly viral and attracting many customers.

Virtual Flame Technology ^TM reveals its presence by casting flame-like glows onto pots and pans when in use. As the heat level goes up, the image of flames gradually grow bigger and brighter, giving the feeling of using the familiar gas stove. Simply put, the virtual flames are a reflection, on the side of the pot or pan, of an LED (light emitting diode) lighting embedded in the cooktop’s surface. Sounds simple, right? Well, not really.

How hard can it be? Uh… very?

As easy as it may seem, this is actually a completely new concept of ‘flames’. Engineers had to overcome numerous technical challenges; applying LEDs to surfaces that heat up to very high temperatures, adjusting the angle of reflection for the lights and to make them look real, just to name a few.

Resists heat – check.

The first challenge was putting the lights in. Engineers first decided to reach out to colleagues with experience in the field. By cooperating with the colleagues that have worked on products with hot surfaces, they first listed out candidate materials with excellent heat resistance and heat generation characteristics. Then they selected the LED that can display the optimal colors of the flame. Numerous tests followed, with as many circumstances considered as possible. (Remember, Thomas Edison “just found 10 thousand ways that won’t work” before finding the right design for his light bulb.)

Dances on stainless steel pots and pans – check.

Now with the players in place, they needed to make the play work. And so came another series of ‘numerous’ tests. The Virtual Flame’s display differs depending on the characteristics of the stainless steel pots and pans used. This is because the flame is just a reflection of lights.

So, to make sure it provides helpful visual to its users, engineers optimized Virtual Flame Technology^TM by testing it on actual stainless steel pots and pans. Considering the fact that the first products featuring this new Virtual Flame Technology^TM would be released in the U.S., engineers had the most popular and commonly-used stainless steel items from the States flown in to the labs in Suwon – more than 30 of them.

Thanks to all the effort, Virtual Flame Technology proved to be one of the most distinctive features of the new Samsung Chef Collection Slide-In Range; despite it having nothing to do with heating the top, keeping the temperature consistent or anything like that. Developing its display gradually over 15 different stages, engineers finally had the flames as if it was the real thing – the flame even flickers when its on its 15^th stage.

Induction cooktop ranges already had been increasingly popular with their existing advantages: they’re energy-efficient; they do not burn oxygen; and they do not generate harmful substances when cooking. Now, thanks to these men and their god-knows-how-many discoveries of things that don’t work, we can now ‘see’ how hot it is, too.

BMW has started connecting its cars 17 years ago. In 1997, BMW was the first carmaker to introduce the e-call in their vehicles. In 2008, they were the first to provide free internet access in the automotive industry. In 2011, BMW integrated with third party app developers such as Spotify to enhance their drivers’ in-car experiences. And last year, BMW launched the BMW Connected Drive Store and navigation update “over-the-air”.

Most of the BMW fleet is now connected; the “Internet of Cars” is already here today. In the “Internet of Things,” the boundaries between home, office and other devices are disappearing. In the “Internet of Cars,” the most fascinating of devices – the automobile – are connected to personal digital assistant – seamlessly, safely, and easily.

By collaborating with companies in other industries like Samsung, which provides new eco-systems for their customers, BMW has been connecting the customers’ world to the company itself. Notable examples are the BMW Remote App, which allows users to control their BMW cars and know about their cars’ state anytime with the connected Samsung Gear S; the latest and world’s first “BMW Touch Command,” a Samsung tablet that is fully integrated into the environment of the car and comes with a dedicated BMW HMI.

BMW has also been connecting its cars to the Smart Home. For example, the Solar Car port can provide wireless inductive charging. Users are informed by their Smart TVs about the “Traffic situation” or “charge status” of their BMWs. Frickenstein claimed that Samsung’s Gear S, tablets and Smart Home integration are three steps towards the “Internet of Cars”.

Frickenstien strongly believes that connectivity will be the key technology for highly automated driving in the future. He predicts that car sensor information will be shared over the cloud with all other cars – swarm intelligence straight ahead.

According to Rifkin, every great economic paradigm shift in history brings together three new technologies that changes the way we organize our economic life: 1) new communication technologies to more efficiently manage economic activity; 2) new sources of energy to more efficiently power economic activity; and 3) new modes of transportation to more efficiently move economic activity.

Today, we are embarking on a revolution named the Internet of Things, in which every device and appliance communicate with each other, homeowners and businesses will be able to produce and consume their own solar and wind green electricity, and the automated Transportation and Logistics Internet will easy mobility by allowing us to use the mobile devices to share electric and fuel cell vehicles, monitor traffic flows.

While the economic opportunities brought on by prosumer electronics will transform our lives, the wholesale transition to an Internet of Things society comes with its own challenges. First, we need to ensure a common set of codes, regulations, and standards to advance interoperability, so that every device can communicate and share data with Internet users in an open system.

Rifkin brought to attention that Government, business, and civil society will have to join hands and collaborate to ensure access to the Internet of Things, protect personal privacy, and guarantee data security. Through these effort and collaboration, the rise of the Internet of Things can improve the lives of billions of people and create a more efficient, democratic, and sustainable future.

Talking about range, one product has been on fire at CES 2015, well virtually, is the Samsung Electric Range with an innovative Virtual-Flame ^TM induction technology!

Before we dig into this new technology, homage must be paid to the conventional gas burner. We must never forget all the fine memories of toasting marshmallows and cooking franks or wieners (which are BTW, totally different things) directly on the burning red and blue flames. It might be too early to say goodbye, but we must welcome a new player in town.

The new virtual-flame induction cooktop has a LED lighting embedded in the surface to mimic a real flame. This is not just about mimicking. This virtual flame shows how hot each ring of the induction cooktop is, which makes it easier to cook.

The virtual-flame sure is comforting, but the key here is the overall improvement in cooking experience. It directly transfers energy to the cookware, so you can instantly lower or raise the heat – you don’t have to wait for the pan to “catch up.”

One other notable thing about this Electric range is that it doesn’t use a digital control panel. Instead, it uses the conventional metal knobs for analog control. More than 2,500 developers are building integrations for Jawbone – from fitness to smart homes to cars. But this is not just about getting the data. It’s about getting results and delivering great experiences for users. It’s the beginning of a path to a fully connected world centered around the user, which Jawbone thinks about and motivates itself. Jawbone plans to continue to build out these fantastic integrations. The role of developers and partnerships crucial; they are the people, who will identify the great new products and services that really make a difference in people’s lives.

Hawkinson explained that the SmartThings ecosystem is now compatible with more devices than any other IoT or smart home platform in the world. “It gives consumers the freedom of choice across all top IoT services and applications — from security and energy savings to entertainment, health and beyond.”

Along with new SmartThings Hub and Sensors and an optional Premium Service, SmartThings also announced new integrations on the open platform including Netgear and D-Link cameras, Somfy window shades, Philips hue lighting, Honeywell thermostats, Chamberlain garage door openers and more. All its services will be available nationwide in April.

Also, as each person, family and country has different needs, a large, no, a huge developer community is required – you need all the inspiration and imagination from the different people. Not only the IoT software and IoT hardware, we need a truly open approach that embraces developers. Well, according to Hawkinson, “the number of developers working with the SmartThings platform has doubled since the partnership with Samsung.”

It has the highest color purity and light efficiency available today.

The SUHD display is made from Samsung’s proprietary, eco-friendly nano-crystal semiconductors. With its ability to transmit different colors of light, depending on their size, it can produce the highest color purity and light efficiency available today.

Its image is two and a half times brighter than conventional TVs.

It uses new Color technology.

The “S” Stands for confidence.

We’ve seen Samsung creating new categories in TV with its LED TV, Smart TV, and Curved TV. SUHD TV will become an entirely new TV category. The hardware, software, content and the overall ecosystem of it is nothing like we’ve ever seen and it is here to change the game.

That is one of the reason it has the Samsung “S” badge, which is only reserved for flagship products.

It is a Smart TV that runs on Tizen.

New for 2015, all of Samsung’s Smart TVs, including the new SUHD TV, will be powered by Tizen, an open-source platform that supports the web standard for TV app development.

It can be the center of any Smart Home.

Since it’s a Smart TV that runs on Tizen, which aims to be an ecosystem of all ‘things’, SUHD TV can be the control center of any Smart Home.

The SUHD TV will be compatible with Samsung Sports Live, which allows users to watch live games while simultaneously checking team and player stats on the same screen. Surely virtual reality and gaming are synonymous thanks to the amazing work Oculus has been doing. We have long been demonstrating Oculus Cinema as well, which creates a virtual movie theater environment so you can enjoy your 2D video content in a completely new world, whether that’s a home theater, a large format movie theater, or a couple of lonely seats on the Moon.

What really has us excited, however, is fully immersive, 360° content. Video that surrounds you. Large screen and curved television sets make you feel like you have a cinema experience in your living room. Large format cinemas like IMAX make you feel like you are surrounded by the image in front of you. In virtual reality, the 360° experience completes the journey to complete immersion. You will feel like you are really a part of the movie.

With Samsung’s Milk VR, we aren’t just providing a free app for Gear VR owners. We are creating a delivery system for an entirely new art form. In our vast experience demonstrating Gear VR for users, media, and the public, we have found 360° video to be an easy way to delight viewers early and bring them into the VR fold.

Unfortunately, creating a new medium presents new challenges. With such advanced technology, part of that challenge is managing expectations. First let’s establish some bona fides.

Gear VR is powered by the Galaxy Note 4, which can play 4K by 2K resolution video at 30 frames per second. This is a very high-end, high-performance specification that was only recently made possible on smartphones. This capability exceeds the resolution and playback of most HDTVs. The Galaxy Note 4 also has a 2560 by 1440 resolution display, which is nearly twice as many pixels as your HDTV. It is a device of impressive power, with a fantastic display that can defy imagination.

So why does a video watched through the Gear VR, though at least as high in resolution, appear to be much lower-resolution than other videos and movies viewed on a Galaxy Note 4? When you watch a video on a smartphone screen, it is shrunk to the size of the screen, with its 16:9 aspect ratio proportions, and viewed usually at arm’s length. When you watch a VR 360° video, that image is stretched all around you. It may extend above and below your eye-level perspective.

• Gear VR has a 96° field of view, slightly more than ¼ of a full circle
• Milk VR is 4K video across 360°, you are looking at ~1000 pixels of video at a time (4K video divided by ¼ circle field of view)

Creating VR Video

Virtual reality video requires special cameras. While RED might have become the defacto standard for 4K and 5K 2D video, no such standard exists in 360° VR video. Some companies are using GoPro cameras mounted in 3D printed rigs, and others are actually using RED cameras arranged in a triangle, square or sphere.  All of these techniques require post processing work that stitches video files together in an effort to try to minimize the seams between what each camera captured.

Others have tried techniques that involve parabolic mirrors with only one camera sensor. This is a creative solution that reduces the number of seams (usually only one), but this sacrifices resolution as the camera only uses one large image sensor, instead of many sensors stitched together.

To illustrate the situation, imagine the full potential of a device like Gear VR with a Galaxy Note 4. Gear VR can display video for a 96° field of view. That means that one screen-length of the Galaxy Note 4 is equal to about 96° of view. To get a 360° view would take about 4 screen-lengths of the Galaxy Note 4. The Galaxy note 4 screen is 2560 pixels long, so a full 360° video would need to be about 10K resolution just to match the theoretical potential of the display.

Eventually the application and graphics processors, the camera sensors and image processors, and the software algorithms that all work together to create and stitch 360° video will all catch up to this potential. By then, of course, screen resolutions will have increased even further, and the technology will still be playing catch-up.

We’re keeping an eye on these potential improvements, and other solutions that will emerge to improve the video quality on today’s processors. As such, we’ve made sure Milk VR content has been future-proofed to accommodate this.

VR video is not just about technology. It’s about storytelling in a whole new medium. Watch Samsung’s first commissioned VR short film, The Recruit. An old pipe on in your basement starts to leak. Your home detects it and notifies you that the washing machine is running and that is the reason of the leakage via smartphone. You turn off the washing machine that is causing the problem. Your smartphone also asks you if you want to call a plumber. But you decide to come home from work to fix it yourself.

As you arrive at home, an outdoor lamp turns on to light your path, and the front door unlocks as you approach the door. When you step inside the house, the lights turn on and the speakers (WAM6500) start playing MILK music that was playing on your phone.

8:00pm

After taking care of the problem, you decide to relax and watch some TV. You have your TV as loud as possible. You didn’t hear any knocking, but your Smart TV notifies and shows you that there is someone at your front door. You let him in with a simple tap on the Smart TV remote control.

The next morning, as you wake up, you speak into your Gear S and say “Good morning.” The lights are dimmed and your favorite music plays to help you wake up easily. Your room also broadcasts the day’s weather forecast and smart blinds slowly let the sunshine into your room. You start smelling the coffee, exactly the medium roast you like, and by the time you are out of the shower, it is ready.

8:30am

You can also monitor how much energy your home is currently using, and how much energy your home has used during the last day, week, and month.

Samsung Smart TV app tells you about the morning traffic and basis status of your car such as battery level. You select today’s destination using the map on the app to send the information to your car.

You check out the TV to see a live-streaming feed coming from each of your smart cameras that you’ve placed around your home before you leave the home.

You say, “Pick me up’ to your Gear S. Your BMW i3 automatically turns on, releases itself from its automated inductive charging, and picks you up in the driveway.

As you step out of your house, you say “Goodbye.” The thermostat, the A/C unit and the lights turn off to save energy. Also the curtains/blinds cover the windows, and the robot vacuum starts sweeping up.

How it works

The key to all of these possibilities is the IoT based app and sensors. For example:

The built in GPS sensor in your smartphone triggers your smart home to activate when you arrive or leave home. You can control which action your home is going to take by a few simple taps in the SmartThings app for each situations.

It can also sense your presence even if you are not carrying a smartphone. SmartThings hub can sense the SmartSense Presence sensor on your key chain.

SmartSense Multi sensor can detect vibration, so if someone knocks, it will trigger the IP Cam at the door to turn on, and it’ll display directly on your Smart TV.

SmartSense Moisture sensor can detect the slightest amount of water. So when SmartSense Moisture is placed in a leakage-prone area such as in your basement or near your washing machine, it can notify you as soon as there is some kind of leakage and let you know about it via the SmartThings app.

It is a selfie monster

Both the Galaxy A5 and A3 feature the 5MP front-facing camera. For reference, the new Galaxy Note 4 features a 3.7MP front-facing camera. To make the most out of its front-facing camera, Samsung has equipped the Galaxy A5 and A3 with a number of selfie-specific features.

For example, just some of the features included are the Wide Selfie, for group selfies or scenery, Rear-cam Selfie, to capture a selfie in high resolution by automatically detecting and focusing on a targets face, Palm Selfie for photos via palm recognition, Animated GIF, to take a short animated selfie GIF, and Beauty Face Features to perfect the image before it’s shared anywhere.

It is super slim, but you would want to show it off

As said, the Galaxy A5 and A3 are just 6.7mm (A5) and 6.9mm (A3) thin which make them one of the slimmest metal unibody smartphones on the market today. So it will be easy to carry and quick to take out for shots that require a great sense of timing, like photos of celebrities on the street, or even UFO sightings(?).

It has some beast-like specifications

The Galaxy A5 and A3 are also outfitted with a Quad Core 1.2 GHz processor. This means that it will support your multi-tasking multiple social channel apps all` at once. Not to mention that you will be multi-tasking with the notorious Super AMOLED display and Adaptive Display technology. And it also has the trendy design of the full metal unibody to add some spice to your style.

Samsung also decided to support the LTE Cat. 4 standard with the Galaxy A5 and A3 for faster connection.*

2015 CES with a keynote on IoT’s infinite possibilities

The President and CEO of Samsung Electronics, BK Yoon, delivered the opening keynote speech at the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), calling for greater openness and collaboration across industries to unlock the infinite possibilities of the Internet of Things (IoT).

“The Internet of Things has the potential to transform our society, economy and how we live our lives,” said Mr. Yoon. “It is our job to pull together — as an industry, and across different sectors — to make true on the promise of the Internet of Things.”

Mr. Yoon also emphasized that IoT must center on people and fit into their lifestyles, adding, “The Internet of Things is not about ‘things.’ Instead, it is about people. Each person is at the center of their own technology universe, and the IoT universe will constantly adapt and change shape as people move through their world.”

As part of Samsung’s commitment to realizing the IoT era, Mr. Yoon announced a timetable for making Samsung technology IoT-enabled. By 2017, all Samsung televisions will be IoT devices, and in five years all Samsung hardware will be IoT-ready, further accelerating the expansion of IoT devices available in the market.

He also emphasized the importance of developers in building IoT and announced that Samsung will invest more than USD 100 million in its developer community in 2015.

Expanding IoT Devices and Components

In the IoT era, sensors become even more advanced and precise, and key components become ever more compact and highly energy efficient.

Mr. Yoon described Samsung’s advanced sensors, which are precise enough to understand a person’s surrounding environment and offer the right solution or service. For example, Samsung is developing a new three-dimensional range sensor that can detect the tiniest movements.

The company is also working on chips, such as the embedded package on package (ePOP) and the Bio-Processor, which are energy-efficient and compact enough to go into a wide range of devices, especially wearables and mobile devices.

“Expanding the devices in the IoT ecosystem and the components that power them is the first step in fulfilling the promise of the Internet of Things,” said Mr. Yoon. “Samsung already has a broad range of IoT devices. Last year, Samsung delivered more than 665 million products, and this number is set to increase. We have already begun to unlock the value hidden in connected devices and all the everyday objects around us.”

Creating an Open Ecosystem

In addition to IoT devices and components, Mr. Yoon emphasized the importance of openness in bringing IoT to life. Joining Mr. Yoon on stage, SmartThings CEO Alex Hawkinson underscored Samsung’s vision for an open infrastructure.

“For the Internet of Things to be a success, it has to be open,” said Hawkinson. “Any device, from any platform, must be able to connect and communicate with one another. We’ve worked hard to accomplish this, and are committed to putting users first, giving them the most choice and freedom possible. Supporting the Developer Community

Samsung deeply values the role of developers and their contributions, and firmly believe that developers will play a key role in realizing the IoT era

SUHD TV Takes Picture Quality to New Heights

Samsung unveiled the 88-inch JS9500 TV, powered by a proprietary, eco-friendly nano-crystal display technology and intelligent SUHD re-mastering engine. The SUHD TV is innovative in every way, delivering superior picture quality with stunning contrast, striking brightness, spectacular color and superb UHD detail.

The SUHD re-mastering engine automatically analyzes the brightness of images to minimize additional power consumption while expressing stunning contrast levels – producing images with much darker blacks and an elevated brightness two-and-a-half times brighter than conventional TVs with twice the color adjustment points.

SUHD TV’s nano-crystal semiconductor transmits different colors of light depending on their size to produce the highest color purity and light efficiency available today. This technology produces a wide range of more accurate colors, providing viewers with twice the color adjustment points and 64 times more color expression than conventional TVs.

Collaborating with 20th Century Fox, Samsung is optimizing content to deliver the premium quality of SUHD and give consumers an unrivaled UHD viewing experience. Most recently, Samsung partnered with the Fox Innovation Lab to re-master specifically for SUHD TV the critically acclaimed film, Exodus.

Renowned Hollywood colorist Stephen Nakamura explained to the press conference the importance of SUHD’s color. “Color really sets the tone for a movie. It can completely change the mood and the feel,” said Nakamura, who has worked on X-Men, Days of Future Past, Quantum of Solace and Exodus. “I recently re-mastered Exodus for the SUHD TV, and the experience was incredible. It really brought the film to life in ways I never thought possible.”

Samsung also unveiled the result of its collaboration with Yves Behar, the renowned designer and founder of the award-winning design firm Fuseproject. The 82-inch S9W TV is an exquisitely curved panel that sits on a metallic cube, reminiscent of a sculpture, giving any living room the ambience of an art gallery.

From 2015, all new Samsung Smart TVs will be powered by Tizen, which not only provides better connectivity, but also gives developers a more robust and easier platform for which to create new applications. Most importantly, it ensures that consumers will have access to a much broader range of Smart TV content and services than ever before.

Samsung also introduced innovative audio products that give consumers a more dynamic, surround-sound audio experience. Developed by Samsung’s new state-of-the-art audio lab in Los Angeles, California, the WAM7500/6500 deliver a 360-degree sound experience thanks to Samsung’s proprietary ring radiator technology, which enables true omni-directional sound both horizontally and vertically. Digital Appliances Designed for a Better Lifestyle

Innovation for Samsung’s Digital Appliances is putting the company on track for yet more success, following a year of unprecedented growth in the company’s home appliances business.

The Chef Collection, infused with the know-how of Michelin-starred chefs, truly transformed the kitchen appliances category during 2014. Now, Samsung is launching the second phase of the project, bringing their passion for cooking directly into the kitchen. Star chefs will share their recipes and tips and tricks through the Chef Collection App, which – thanks to regular updates – will help consumers create that perfect culinary experience. For a limited time, consumers who purchase a Chef Collection appliance package are eligible to receive an exclusive Chef Collection tablet with the pre-installed Chef Collection app. It will guide consumers through the cooking process step-by-step. For any family with children, persistent stains in the laundry are a frequent problem. Samsung makes it easy to pre-treat stains with the Samsung activewash^TM top-loader washing machine. MILK VR Delivers Virtual Reality Content

Well, it is January and a whole new year once again. And once again, Samsung Tomorrow flew to Las Vegas to bring you all the Samsung exclusives that are about to happen! So before we start, we would like to share our journey to CES 2015, like we always do with key international events.

To get to Las Vegas from a different city or country, unless you are traveling by a bus or car, you need to go through the McCarran International Airport, which greets you with the sound of slot machines and what can only be described as the smell of luck and possibility. However, there is no time for that, as one must concentrate on the mission!

After the luggage drop off at the hotel, we first wanted to check out the hot spot, aka Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) on ‘Paradise Road’. Like most of the previous CESs, this year’s CES will also be held at the famous LVCC from the 6th to 9th of January 2015.

Even though, technically, this is a business trip, the good thing about Las Vegas is that as long as you stay on the strip, you get to see all the fancy hotels and neon signs. It’s impossible to forget that you are in Las Vegas.

Now, getting to the LVCC is just part of the mission. You’ll need a badge to get into all the exhibitions. Anyone who signed up for CES 2015 in advance can pick up their badges either at the airport, selected hotels, or on-site, but we decided to pick it up at the LVCC.

Now that we got the badges, we can see all the exhibitions. LVCC is a gigantic building, so it is good to plan ahead. So let us tell you about the Samsung booth.

The Samsung booth at CES 2015 will be located in the Las Vegas Convention Center, Central Hall, Booth #11906. It is an extensive 4-day event, but if you’ve ever been to CES, you know 4 days are just not enough. Here are the hours of operation for your convenience.

Samsung Electronics Unveils New Monitors and Signages at 2015 CES

Samsung Electronics announced that it will exhibit new and expanded display products at the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), including a complete line-up of Curved monitors and SMART LED Signage.

“At the 2015 CES, we will demonstrate how Samsung continues to transform and pioneer display innovation and design,” said Seok-Gi Kim, Senior Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We aim to help people discover new possibilities through consumer- and business-oriented displays that perfectly match each and every usage scenario.”

The new Curved monitor range provides a comfortable viewing experience with screens that closely match the natural curve of the viewers’ eyes. The range includes the ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio SE790C, available in 29 and 34 inches, and the 32-inch SE590C.

These flagship monitors, alongside the SE510C, available in 24 and 27 inches and TV-ready 27-inch TD590C are expected to bring Curved monitors into the mainstream, thanks to their ability to offer a more engaging viewing experience.

Samsung is also showcasing innovative displays optimized for different usage environments at its booth, #11906 Tech East, LVCC, Central Hall. The latest displays will be shown across four areas: SMART Office zone, SMART Hotel zone, SMART Restaurant zone and SMART LED Signage zone.

In the SMART Office zone, UHD and Curved monitors designed will be on display in an elegant office environment. The SMART Hotel zone will let visitors experience enhanced connectivity through features such as in-room control that wirelessly connects hotel TVs with numerous IT products.

In the SMART Restaurant zone, second-generation SMART Signage TVs for small and medium-sized business owners will show how powerful digital signage can be in promoting a company’s offerings. Samsung will also debut upgraded software that can be used in conjunction with existing digital signage to provide the most up-to-date experience possible. The zone will include an experiential area, where visitors can create digital menus and try out the new SMART Signage solutions.

The SMART LED Signage zone features a bezel-less design with enhanced screen quality, and can be fully customized to meet customer preference. On display in the SMART LED Signage zone is the industry-leading signage display, measuring 2.7 meters in length and 1 meter in width, and comprised of 12 modules (6×2 displays). This display has the industry’s smallest 1.4mm pixel pitch.

Also on show for the first time in North America are the AMD FreeSync-compatible UE590 and UE850 UHD monitors. The monitors were initially announced via a technical collaboration with AMD last November.

Simple and Easy Intuitive Access

The redesigned Smart Hub is displayed on one screen enabling easy navigation and quick access. The new Smart Hub features easy access to content, with the first screen displaying your most recent content and tailored content recommendations for even more entertainment options. It also has optimized four-direction control that is both playful and responsive.

Another important update to the system is how easily the TV now syncs with other devices. Using Wi-Fi Direct, content is seamlessly shared from a mobile device to a TV and vice-versa with just one click. With Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Samsung’s Smart TV software automatically searches for Samsung mobile devices nearby and connects to them. WAM7500/6500 and expanded Curved Soundbar lineup coming soon

Samsung Electronics announced a range of new audio products to be launched at 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show, including the WAM7500/6500 and an expanded lineup of Curved Soundbars.

WAM7500/6500 is a new concept for Samsung providing a rich-bodied sound experience no matter where you are in relation to the product. Unlike conventional speakers that project sound in a single direction, the WAM7500/6500 fills entire rooms with sound.

This breakthrough in approach to audio came through the utilization of proprietary ‘Ring Radiator’ technology which allows sound to flow in a 360-degree radius, with the perfect balance between treble and bass.

“We know how much people love music and that’s why we are expanding our portfolio to bring high-quality, wireless audio into the home,” said Jurack Chae, Senior Vice President at Samsung Electronics. “With the new WAM7500/6500 people can enjoy a vibrant sound wherever they are, while our new Curved Soundbars perfectly complement the TV viewing experience.”

WAM7500/6500 was in part developed at Samsung’s new state-of-the-art audio lab in Valencia, California and uses premium materials across the exterior of the speakers, allowing it to stylishly blend in with any home décor. It will be released in two models; Stand-type(WAM7500) and Movable-type(WAM6500).

Stand-type offers a stylish build paired with premium sound quality. Movable-type comes with a built-in battery so listeners can enjoy the best sound quality available whether they are at home or out and about. Both models seamlessly connect to TVs, soundbars and mobile devices.

Samsung also plans to unveil the world’s first TV matching Curved Soundbar lineup, which has been expanded since its introduction in mid-2014. In addition to the 7500 series, Samsung will release the 8500, 6500 and 6000 series, extending the lineup to a total of four that optimally match Samsung’s Curved TVs of various sizes¾from 45- to 78-inches.

The newly-introduced 8500 series will also offer enhanced sound quality with its 9.1 channel speakers, thanks to a central speaker and additional side speakers situated at both ends. This will further intensify the immersive experience of the Samsung Curved TV by delivering a wider sense of surround-sound for the user.

Time and Date

Each year, at least for the past couple of years, CES, the International Consumer Electronics Show, has taken place at Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S., and the same is planned for CES 2015 as well.

As far as the specific date goes, CES 2015 is going to be held from January 6 to 9th of NEXT year (2015). So if you haven’t already done it, mark your calendar!

What to bring

Samsung Tomorrow has attended CES for the past couple years, and we learned a couple tricks that we would like to share.

-Snacks and beverages

Las Vegas Convention Center is an enormous building and CES is a gigantic show. According to its official website, there were total of 3,673 exhibits taking up 2.06million sf of space and over 160,000 people attended CES 2014.

If you are planning to check out as many exhibitions as possible, you are definitely going to feel exhausted. So to rejuvenate yourself, bring some snacks and beverages. If you need another reason to bring something to drink, remember that Las Vegas is technically in the desert.

-Comfortable Outfit

Unless you are there for business purposes, forget ‘dressing to impress’. As we said above, checking out exhibitions at CES is not a joke, it requires your full dedication and concentration. At least bring comfortable shoes. The point is to “dress for CES,” not to impress.

What to expect from Samsung

If you haven’t noticed yet, the CEO of Samsung Electronics BK Yoon is scheduled to make an opening keynote address on the 5th of January at the Venetian in Las Vegas. We also know that he is planning to share Samsung’s vision for the Internet of Things. (Check out the recent interview of BK Yoon on the topic). So IoT is definitely one thing you can expect to hear about from Samsung.

What will be the biggest implication of the Internet of Things (IoT) on our everyday lives?

“With the emergence of the IoT era, we will see our lives dramatically change for the better. What’s unique with the IoT is that it engages every facet of our daily lives. It reduces the time, cost, and resources we would normally spend throughout a day. Imagine, for instance, a driverless car that understands where and how fast you want to go. It will not only save you time and effort but also allow you to pursue other important things such as meaningful time with your family. Thanks to the IoT and the expanded value of things, we will be able to achieve more efficient and enjoyable lives.”

In your opinion, how is the IoT changing the tech industry?

“As many of my industry peers may agree, the IoT is bringing a significant change to our business. It is already shaping a new ecosystem within and outside of the tech industry, bringing infinite new opportunities. The convergence of technologies will accelerate, and collaborations will multiply to fill the needs of consumers. We at Samsung are committed to working with others to build the Internet of Things.”

What is your favorite CES memory?

“CES has always been full of fun and meaningful opportunities for me. My favorite part of the show is taking a tour around our booth and connecting with our customers, tech enthusiasts, and media. It’s always great to see their reactions to and feedback of our products. This year, I am looking forward to being on the keynote stage at CES, speaking about Samsung’s human-centered technologies and our vision for IoT.”

If you could sum up your upcoming keynote in just one word, what would it be?

“Possibilities”

What is the one consumer electronics product you cannot live without?

“I have been very lucky to have worked on a number of consumer electronics products throughout my career. Televisions, air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines and many others – they are all remarkable and continue to enhance many people’s lives. As more and more of these devices and appliances connect to one another, and with other objects, we will begin to see an even greater transformation. It’s what I’m most excited about – the infinite possibilities that the IoT will bring to our daily lives.”

What’s next for Samsung?

“There is no doubt that the IoT will lead the next wave of consumer technology, and Samsung takes great importance in contributing to this revolution and providing consumers with a variety of IoT experiences. Together with the entire industry, Samsung will continue to drive innovation and work together with others to realize the IoT era.”

Optimized curvature, picture quality and complementary features deliver a best-in-class viewing experience for entertainment and multi-tasking

Samsung Electronics introduces its newest and most advanced curved monitor, model SE790C, delivering an enhanced immersive and comfortable viewing experience for multi-media entertainment and multi-tasking. Alongside an optimized curvature design, ultra-wide quad high definition (ULTRA-WQHD) resolution and a superior contrast ratio, the new 34-inch curved monitor SE790C offers enhanced productivity and entertainment functionality within a sophisticated and ergonomic design.

Immersive and Comfortable Viewing Experience

The innovative 3000R(curvature radius of 3,000mm) design of the SE790C provides a noticeably different viewing experience from traditional flat screen monitors and competitive curved monitors. Unlike flat screen monitors where the viewing distance differs from the center of the screen to the edges, the screen edges of the SE790C more closely match the natural curve of a viewer’s eyes.  As a result, the SE790C creates a distortion-free viewing experience with less eye strain and enhanced comfort for viewer.

In fact, the curved monitor’s superior eye comfort has been validated by TÜV Rheinland, a leading international certification organization. The rigorous certification process involved an evaluation of the monitor’s color presentation, color uniformity, viewing angle, and curved space and flicker-free operation.

An edge-to-edge curve also enables panoramic-like viewing, creating a wider and fuller field of view, and a more immersive visual experience. The monitor’s optimal curved design creates a high 3D-like effect ratio that makes the screen seem larger than a flat screen of the same size. This 3D-like effect increases when depth becomes larger or the viewing distance becomes closer.

Vibrant Picture Quality

To ensure multi-media content can be enjoyed with the finest picture quality, clarity and intensity it deserves, the Samsung SE790C features a 21:9 aspect ratio and ULTRA-WQHD resolution of 3,440 by 1,440 pixels to deliver stunning picture quality.

Complemented by a wide viewing angle, the monitor’s best-in-class static contrast ratio of 3,000:1 and 300 cd/m² typical brightness result in dynamic lighting and shading for lifelike pictures with deeper blacks, vivid colors and sharper detail. The extra-wide viewing angle of 178 degrees horizontally and vertically optimizes the viewing experience from any position and minimizes picture distortion.

Optimized for Productivity and Entertainment

An array of features take multi-tasking, gaming and movie watching to the next level. The SE790C comes equipped with Picture-by-Picture (PbP) and Picture-in-Picture (PiP) 2.0 functions for enhanced work efficiency. PbP allows users to easily connect two devices, such as a desktop, laptop, gaming device (Xbox, PlayStation, etc.) or Set-Top Box (STB), and view both simultaneously on the monitor without compromising screen real-estate. PiP 2.0 enables multi-tasking without the need to downscale content. The monitor also is equipped with four USB 3.0 super-charging ports to eliminate the need for a docking station and maintain 24/7 connectivity for all your devices.

The SE790C also offers a variety of entertainment-enhancing capabilities, including a unique game mode, high-quality stereo sound and fast response time. Using the game mode, the curved monitor intelligently detects changes in scenes by correcting blurry images, enhancing colors and altering contrast for improved visibility of in-game action. The monitor’s embedded 7-watt dual stereo speakers also deliver a high-quality stereo sound and a richer experience, while a response time of four milliseconds ensures gamers see even the fastest on-screen action clearly and smoothly without motion blur or ghosting.

Premium and Ergonomic Design

Constructed from sophisticated metallic materials, the SE790C is designed with a clean and understated look that ensures nothing distracts viewers from the curved screen. The elegantly curved T-shaped, height-adjustable stand (HAS) and clean back with hidden VESA bracket support work together to enhance the monitor’s sophisticated and ergonomic design to maximize productivity and comfort.
