Samsung Electronics today announced that it has launched its 3D Map View feature, which was first unveiled at CES 2024 and is now available in all countries with SmartThings access.

Map View streamlines home management by turning real floor plans into virtual images in the SmartThings app. Users can clearly see their devices and conveniently adjust lighting, temperature, air quality and energy consumption at any time and place.

Map View addresses the challenge of managing the growing number of connected devices in every home worldwide and eases smart home management by eliminating the need to find each device separately before using it. It shows users their entire home at a glance and updates in real time as more devices are connected.

Map View’s previous version was a 2D model that only worked for homes where the floor plan was provided. However, this newly updated 3D Map View takes advantage of Spatial AI in Samsung devices — such as the Bespoke Jet Bot — using LiDAR¹ sensors in the device to precisely measure and map a home’s layout. Now, users can more easily understand the shape and spatial conditions of their homes on 3D maps.

The feature has also enhanced its filter function to allow for more efficient monitoring and control of required devices. It aims to offer a more customized and user-friendly smart service by using AI characters, which were also unveiled at CES 2024, by the end of the year.

Availability

Map View is available through the SmartThings app on Android and iOS mobile devices,² as well as TVs.³ Controls for the feature will also be made available through additional hubs, such as Family Hub refrigerators,⁴ within the first half of the year.

Initially, Map View was rolled out in Korea and the United States last year. But now, it can be used in all countries with access to the SmartThings app.

“Samsung is constantly working to enable customers to control their home devices without any inconvenience at any time and place, and Map View is the result of these efforts,” said Seungbeom Choi, Head of Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to introduce a variety of relevant services and features so our customers can enjoy optimal smart home experiences with a better life.”

Samsung is currently collaborating with construction companies to expand Map View beyond homes to apartments and office spaces. The company aims to help create smart environments for customers worldwide by adding functionality. These include an optimized user experience (UX) for large screens that assists B2B operators with signage, and Quick Control, which enables users to easily access key functions.

Due to variables like ocean currents and light refraction, filming underwater in true 8K quality can be difficult. “But, when all the circumstances line up, the results are breathtaking,” shared Achtel.

While advanced technologies like submersible lenses assist in capturing these shots, Neo QLED 8K — known for its high resolution and clarity — allows filmmakers like Achtel to closely examine even the smallest details of underwater scenes. This close look helps improve sharpness and other aspects of image quality after filming, overcoming the challenges of underwater optics.

The Journey Toward a Sustainable Future

In 2022, Samsung announced its new environmental strategy in response to climate change and the need for increased resource circularity. As part of this, Samsung outlined a timeline of sustainability milestones the company aims to hit over the next two decades — beginning with the announcement of its strategy to its company-wide net zero carbon emission target for 2050.

Attendees viewed in-depth explanations of how Samsung is pursuing resource circularity through encased models of the company’s eco-conscious innovations that repurpose or incorporate recycled materials.

The Sustainability Zone featured recycled plastic walls that were built using r-ABS and r-PP, materials developed by Samsung’s Circular Economy Lab. r-ABS is made using recycled Styrofoam that comes from inside Samsung product packaging while r-PP is made by recycling various by-products generated during the production of household goods.

The Circular Workshop provided a closer look at the entire product lifecycle of the Galaxy Book4, Neo QLED 8K and BESPOKE AI Washer. “It was so interesting to see how sustainability was implemented at every stage of the product lifecycle,” said one visitor.

SmartThings Energy, Now Even Smarter

Samsung unveiled an even more advanced version of SmartThings Energy. Through AI Energy Mode, users can comprehensively manage their energy usage and cut down on electricity bills —reducing carbon emissions in the process.

To further its pursuit of the Net Zero Home, Samsung expanded upon its recent collaboration with electric vehicle brand Tesla through SmartThings Energy. Tesla’s Powerwall 3, Solar Inverter and Universal Wall Connector were showcased — which have all been seamlessly integrated into the SmartThings Energy ecosystem. In addition, attendees viewed demonstrations of how notifications from the Storm Watch feature on Tesla’s app appear on Samsung TVs.

More Accessibility for All

Attendees were given a glimpse at a new remote function with condensed key functionalities and more accessible design, allowing users to control their TVs with the SmartThings app on their smartphones. Other accessibility features include Live caption in call that provides real-time transcription on Galaxy devices and Audio subtitles that automatically recognize and read on-screen subtitles, making it helpful especially when watching foreign content.

Joining Hands With Startups To Tackle Environmental Challenges

The zone highlighted Samsung’s open collaborations with startups that aim to better society by developing for the future.

Samsung supports innovative startups to address environmental challenges through C-Lab Outside, the company’s external startup acceleration program. In addition, the company has also joined hands with organizations such as Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC) — a global startup competition and ecosystem for entrepreneurs addressing global challenges.

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas from January 9-12, Samsung Electronics invited British food influencer Oliver Paterson (also known as elburritomonster) to showcase how AI simplifies menu planning, cooking and sharing food — allowing hosts to spend less time in the kitchen and more quality moments with their guests. Oliver, who boasts 40,000 followers on the Samsung Food app, gave a cooking demonstration of his favorite dinner party meals using Samsung’s smart kitchen appliances.

Tasty Recipes for Any Diet or Occasion

Samsung Food is an innovative culinary experience that harnesses the power of AI to offer personalized recipes and dietary advice. Launched in August 2023, the platform serves as a personal cooking assistant — guiding users in discovering new dishes, crafting customized menus, managing ingredient inventory and remotely controlling their cooking appliances. Users can also share their favorite recipes on social media, making it an ideal, all-in-one platform for food enthusiasts.

Oliver kicked off the presentation by browsing menu items on the Samsung Food app for his dinner party. Using the image search feature, he snapped photos of the ingredients he had on hand. Among the many recipes recommended by Samsung Food, he opted for a breakfast burrito with mango Pico de Gallo sauce.

To ensure his guests could enjoy the meal he prepared, Oliver used the Personalize Recipe feature — allowing him to modify the recipe according to various dietary restrictions or meal preferences including vegan, gluten-free, non-dairy and more. Oliver selected the vegan recipe option, swapping regular cheese for vegan cheese and replacing the sausage with beans. Additionally, he chose the gluten-free alternative, substituting regular tortillas with gluten-free ones. For the additional ingredients needed, he purchased them easily through Amazon Fresh using the Samsung Food app.

Keep Food Fresh and the Fridge Stocked

As Oliver placed the tomatoes and onions he purchased into the fridge, the internal camera automatically snapped photos of these ingredients — creating a food inventory list and recording the storage date of the ingredients. This innovative function was made possible using the AI Vision Inside feature of the 2024 BESPOKE 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+ which debuted at CES 2024.

“The AI Vision Inside feature is a game changer for those who like to cook,” said Oliver. “It’s incredibly convenient as the feature automatically notifies you when ingredients are close to expiring, eliminating the need to manually check each product’s expiration date. It also recommends you recipes through the Samsung Food app based on ingredients you already have in your fridge.”

Seamless Cooking With Smart Appliances

The recipe that Oliver saved in the Samsung Food app on his smartphone seamlessly appeared on the screen of the Slide-in Range. When he pressed the Start Cooking button, the optimal cooking settings for the recipe — including temperature and time — were set automatically and immediately transmitted. With the help of a 7-inch LCD screen, Oliver was able to easily monitor the recipe and remaining cooking time.

To share his culinary creation, Oliver took a photo of the finished burrito, uploaded it to his followers on the Samsung Food Community account and took a large bite out of it with his fellow host, followed by many in audience whispering that they would love to take a bite too. Oliver highlighted Samsung Food’s wide variety of recipes and enthusiastically recommended the platform for any upcoming parties.

An attendee at the event said “This does look like it will help me organize my refrigerator a lot. I forget what I have in my fridge all the time.” Another attendee said, “That burrito looks amazing. I should give Samsung Food a try to see if I can make that later.”

Goose Labs – Transforming Home Fitness in the Metaverse

In today’s fast-paced world, many struggle with the lack of physical activity. While everyone recognizes the importance of exercise, gym memberships can be costly and at-home workouts often feel tedious.

Goose Labs, a C-Lab spin-off leader, aims to change this with “FIVA,” an AI-powered metaverse home fitness app. “FIVA was born from a desire to make exercise an enjoyable part of daily life, not a daunting task,” explained Seo-Hee Lee, a representative at Goose Labs. “We use AI motion capture in the app to mirror users’ movements with avatars, and we added a community feature so that people could support each other in the metaverse.” What sets “FIVA” apart is its live classes led by expert trainers in various fitness domains, from traditional weight training to dance fitness and ballet workouts.

At CES, Goose Labs showcased how users can seamlessly start a workout using only a smartphone to access the metaverse. “You don’t need extra sensors or devices,” said Lee. “And you can exercise comfortably at home without worrying about a tidy house or special clothes.”

CES 2024 marks Goose Labs’ first exhibition event following its establishment under the C-Lab program, making the event more meaningful. “I think our presence here was possible thanks to the various mentoring and growth opportunities we received through the Samsung C-Lab network following our spin-off,” said Lee. “Being part of the ‘C-Lab family,’ I’m hopeful that this event will be even more impactful.”

Looking ahead, Lee shared her curiosity about attendees’ reactions to Goose Labs’ technology. “At this exhibition, we’re unveiling our new avatars, gaming features and our Android app,” said Lee. “We’re eager for feedback that can help us improve our services going forward.”

RebuilderAI – Bringing the Real World Into Virtual Spaces

Samsung actively nurtures external startups through its C-Lab Outside program, aiming to share its expertise and bolster the Korean startup scene. Handpicked for this program, startups like RebuilderAI received full support, including financial backing and customized development programs.

RebuilderAI, a 3D technology startup chosen for Samsung’s C-Lab Outside program in 2023, showcased its specialized AI technology at CES 2024. The company received a CES 2024 Innovation Award for its AI solution “VRIN 3D,” which enables users to create high-quality 3D content simply by using a smartphone camera to capture surroundings — eliminating the need for studios or costly equipment. This breakthrough marked a shift toward a future where anyone can easily create a 3D model using a single smartphone through AI technology.

When Junghyun Kim founded RebuilderAI, metaverse and spatial computing were still emerging at the forefront of next-generation content technologies. “While there was a lot of interest in 3D technology, it still required a lot of time and resources. It also often resulted in large file sizes, making the technology less usable. That’s when I started to wonder how technology could be used to streamline the creation of 3D assets at a desired scale,” he said.

This led to the development of “VRIN 3D,” an AI-driven solution allowing anyone to generate 3D content using just a smartphone and conveniently edit their texture or background online. Visitors at RebuilderAI’s booth were able to see their selfies transformed into 3D product models using the user-friendly VRIN 3D app.

RebuilderAI’s solution is used in product manufacturing, training data production, simulations, production inspections and more. Its impact spans multiple industries, including marketing, manufacturing, design, construction and real estate. Currently, the solution is only available to businesses, but the company plans to gradually expand its services, empowering anyone to create 3D models quickly and effortlessly.

“The C-Lab Outside program supported us while we were preparing for our exhibition for CES 2024, where we were able to meet many customers from around the world. Thanks to that crucial support, we could focus all our attention on preparation,” said Kim. “We are in the process of establishing partnerships with domestic and international companies, so I hope people will stay tuned.”

Paving the Way for the Future of AI

Under the spotlight at CES 2024, Samsung C-Lab startups showcased their groundbreaking AI technologies, advancements and vision for the future on a global scale. At the event, these startups earned one Best of Innovation Award along with 22 Innovation Awards.

This year’s C-Lab participants received positive responses for offering diverse AI technologies designed for everyday use. Notable examples included “StyleBot,” a customizable AI fashion recommendation service, and “Yellosis,” an AI healthcare solution based on smart toilet technology for urine analysis.

A main attraction of the zone was the 2024 BESPOKE 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+¹ — which impressed visitors with its unique capabilities such as the AI Vision Inside feature. Attendees were able to peek inside and learn about the product’s internal cameras — which record when ingredients are stored and their expiration date. If a product is nearing the end of its shelf life, AI Vision Inside sends notifications to users and provides recipe suggestions via Samsung Food.

Many visitors expressed their desire to lower the amount of food wasted and admitted to forgetting items in the fridge from time to time. “I like the concept and the setup,” said one guest. “It’s pretty useful because I always find expired vegetables in my fridge.”

Effortless Multitasking Around the Home With Connected Appliances

For example, if the phone rings while users are cooking, they can answer the call from the screen of the Anywhere Induction Cooktop without needing to grab their smartphone.

Understanding that users desire appliances that clean both effectively and quickly, Samsung showcased its BESPOKE vacuum cleaner lineup. Visitors tested out the BESPOKE Jet AI on different surface types, such as carpet and hard floors, to experience its intelligent floor sensing capabilities. Joining Samsung’s line of intelligent appliances, the BESPOKE AI Washer and Dryer Combo offered visitors a glimpse at an All-in-One laundry experience. Attendees were introduced to a number of the space-friendly appliance’s useful features, including AI OptiWash and AI Optimal Dry which use sensors to effectively launder clothes.

Samsung introduced the new Anyplace Induction Cooktop which utilizes an industry-first sheet coil heating mechanism to evenly cook food no matter where the pot or pan is located on the cooktop. The AI Cook Manager technology feature detects boiling liquid and automatically adjusts settings to prevent spillover and messes.

In addition, Samsung showcased how appliances such as the Anyplace Induction Cooktop, Slide-in Range and BESPOKE Oven² can cook dishes properly and safely with limited intervention — providing users with peace of mind when briefly leaving the room while cooking. Once cooking is complete, the appliance automatically sends a notification to the TV or washing machine.³

On top of the unique AI Vision Inside feature, the 32-inch screen of the 2024 BESPOKE 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+ caught the attention of many visitors. Attendees viewed demonstrations of how the expanded screen can be used to pull up all types of content, from step-by-step cooking videos on YouTube or TikTok to their favorite show on Samsung TV Plus. What’s more, visitors learned how they can quickly and conveniently search up recipe videos using voice commands with Bixby.

Enjoy Effortless Energy Savings Using AI

When it comes to sustainability, even the smallest of efforts can make a big difference. Samsung spotlighted AI Energy Mode and how this unique function makes energy saving effortless. Attendees gained insights into how the function monitors energy usage by analyzing peak and off-peak electricity times. As such, AI Energy Mode can automatically power on appliances to perform specific tasks such as running a wash cycle, charging an appliance and more outside of peak usage times.⁴

The dedicated Mobile Experience Zone at Samsung’s booth pulled attendees in for one last glimpse at the company’s top innovations where visitors could experience the latest Galaxy products, including the Galaxy Book4 Series, and view how they are strengthened by partnerships with industry leaders.

New, Exciting AI Capabilities With the Galaxy Book4 Series

The new Galaxy Book4 Series was spotlighted near the entrance of the zone. Attendees could experience the strong AI performance and the incredibly responsive touchscreen display of the Galaxy Book4, released on January 4 in Korea.

The Galaxy Book4 series is equipped with the new Intel® Core Ultra Processor, offering expanded connectivity and a high-performance AI experience. The zone featured up-close demonstrations of the laptop’s increased processing power, made possible by a newly added Neural Processing Unit (NPU).

Applied to all models in the series for the first time, the Dynamic AMOLED 2X touchscreen captivated attendees who used their hands to scroll and zoom in and out. “It has the touchscreen which I like,” said one visitor. “For me, touchscreen is everything — even on my laptop.”

Even under the bright lights of the booth, the high-resolution display was glare free thanks to the anti-reflection capabilities that prevent reflection in different lighting environments. Additionally, the Vision Booster feature automatically adjusted the color contrast and brightness, allowing visitors to fully experience the crystal-clear display right at the heart of the bustling electronics show.

A Cohesive Device Experience Through an AI-Enhanced Galaxy Ecosystem

With AI sweeping the tech industry, partnerships are more important than ever when pursuing innovation. By collaborating with cutting-edge technology leaders, Samsung is elevating the user experience through bolstered productivity and efficiency.

Visitors explored spaces dedicated to partners, such as Microsoft and Google, who share Samsung’s vision for streamlined productivity and strengthened device connectivity.

One result of these partnerships includes Copilot — Microsoft’s Generative AI assistant that can accurately read, summarize and send text messages from mobile or PC to create a cohesive experience between two devices. In addition, Google Meet offers high-quality video during conference calls.

What’s more, attendees were able to experience Galaxy’s leading productivity tools. Multi Control allows movement between Galaxy smartphones and tablets with a mouse or keyboard, and Second Screen enables PC displays to be expanded or duplicated on a tablet.

Unparalleled Viewing Experiences on an AI-Powered 8K Display

As a TV market leader for nearly two decades, Samsung’s premium displays have continually set the standard for viewing experiences. Building off this expertise, Samsung integrated AI technology into its TVs to create the 2024 Neo QLED 8K — offering users superior viewing experiences with the latest technical features.

The Neo QLED 8K contains the NQ8 AI Gen3 Processor,­ the company’s most advanced AI-powered processor to date. The processor supports a neural processing unit (NPU) that is twice as fast as previous versions and an AI neural network eight times larger than before. As the processor utilizes deep learning and 8K AI Upscaling Pro technology, it automatically adjusts image and sound quality, delivering picture-perfect 8K content every time.

Visitors to the zone could also learn about the new AI Motion Enhancer Pro and Active Voice Amplifier Pro functionality of the Neo QLED 8K which help to minimize distractions while viewing. The AI Motion Enhancer Pro utilizes a sophisticated motion detection algorithm to enhance clarity during motion-intense content, such as sports games, helping users enjoy every moment of a match. Similarly, the Active Voice Amplifier Pro feature utilizes AI to analyze and separate aspects of sound to provide optimal sound for different types of content. For instance, users can choose to minimize or enhance the background noise from a conversation — helping them catch every word without distractions.

To provide opportunity for further customization, the 2024 Neo QLED 8K comes equipped with Samsung’s open-source operating system Tizen. As part of this, Daily+ enables users to adjust their content viewing experience by connecting their Samsung devices, such as Galaxy smartwatches, Galaxy Buds, Galaxy smartphones and more, to their display. As such, users can view exercise data from their Galaxy Watch while working out and mirror video calls from their smartphone conveniently on their TV.

Samsung also displayed its Infinity Air Design of the 2024 Neo QLED 8K that boasts a slim profile. Mounted on the Infinity Air Stand, the display appeared to be floating above ground. With this seamless and simple design, viewers can stay focused on the content without being distracted by clunky stands or display setups.

A High-Definition MICRO LED Display Built for Every Consumer

Aside from the Neo QLED 8K display, Samsung showcased its line of MICRO LED displays, including the ultra-customizable, modular Transparent MICRO LED.

Upon entering the space, visitors can experience the overwhelming sense of realism created by the 140-inch ultra-large MICRO LED display. Since the screen is bezel-less and modular, the size, resolution and ratio can be freely scaled and adjusted according to user preferences. Additionally, the new line of 2024 MICRO LED displays come in a new 140-inch size option, giving consumers another option in line with the trend of large screens.

To give visitors a glimpse of the artistry and ingenuity behind MICRO LED technology, the Screen Experience Zone displayed the MICRO LED Craftsmanship Wall — representing the countless hours of work needed to develop the screen.

Expanding Home Possibilities With IoT Tech

A curious object that caught the attention of many attendees was Ballie, Samsung’s smart home companion that wandered around a corner of the booth freely. First introduced at CES 2020, Ballie’s functionality has been upgraded to better meet users’ needs. As it can autonomously navigate users’ homes, Ballie acts as a smart personal assistant, monitoring the home and performing a multitude of tasks efficiently.

With its upgraded functionality, Ballie can interact with and control IoT home devices to create the perfect home environment. To help users start their day, Ballie can open the curtains according to a user’s preferred wake-up time. When preparing for the day ahead, Ballie can project a variety of content — such as daily news or weather conditions — on the floor or wall. Additionally, Ballie can monitor pets and family members when a user is away from home, automatically alerting them in the event of an emergency.

Additionally, using the new Daily Board¹ SmartThings Hub function, users can monitor their home on their TV even when they’re not viewing content. If movement is detected, the Daily Board Widget automatically appears on the screen, providing summaries on home energy usage, weather conditions, home information and more. When watching content, users can easily toggle the setting off from the quick menu to not be disturbed.

Immersion Taken to the Next Level

Samsung displayed a plethora of its other innovative technologies that redefine home entertainment experiences at the Samsung First Look event. This included The Premiere 8K, the world’s first wireless 8K projector that extends up to 150 inches, and the Music Frame, a smart frame-shaped speaker that fits any interior. Attendees also viewed how Samsung is driving innovation within the gaming realm with the Gaming Hub and the line of products created with Performance Designed Products (PDP), helping users enjoy games more and taking gaming experiences to the next level.

Smarter Living Made Simple at the SmartThings Zone

In the SmartThings Zone, attendees interacted with Samsung’s ever-expanding home ecosystem — which currently includes 196 SmartThings-compatible devices and products from 48 partner companies. The zone featured a variety of scenarios related to different tasks and rooms in the home, allowing users to imagine how SmartThings could improve their daily lives. Topping off the engaging experience, attendees were able to enjoy a live cooking show with British food influencer Oli Paterson.

Samsung Electronics introduced a new version of its AI home companion robot Ballie at a press conference at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas on January 8 (local time) — ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024. First introduced at CES 2020, Ballie has been revamped with new advanced features to help users intelligently navigate their lives.

Ballie acts as a personal home assistant, autonomously driving around the home to complete various tasks. By connecting to and managing home appliances, Ballie can provide a helping hand to users in many situations — continually learning from users’ patterns and habits to provide smarter, more personalized services. Ballie provides peace of mind by sending video updates of pets or loved ones to users’ devices when they’re away from home. What’s more, Ballie can set the mood for any home activity whether users are exercising, working or relaxing. From projecting workout videos on the wall or floor in an optimal size to playing music and answering phone calls, Ballie makes life at home more productive and enjoyable.

Samsung Electronics today shared its vision for how artificial intelligence (AI) technology will enable people to experience their devices more intuitively and conveniently than ever before. Presenting these ideas at a press conference at CES® 2024, Samsung teamed up with key partners to outline the technology behind this vision and how new products and services use AI capabilities to make life easier.

Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of Samsung’s Device eXperience (DX) Division, opened the press conference by describing how AI will enable connected technologies to improve people’s daily lives while always remaining nonintrusive and “in the background.” The strategy that he and others outlined focused on the role of AI in enhancing connected experiences that are both simple and useful. Throughout the press conference, Samsung presented a number of products and services that help achieve these aims.

“With the emergence of artificial intelligence, smarter, better experiences will redefine how we live,” Han said. “Samsung’s broad portfolio of powerful devices, along with the pursuit of open collaboration, will help bring AI and hyper-connectivity to all.”

AI-Enabled Visual Display Products and Digital Appliances Bring New Experiences to the Home

During the CES press conference, Jonathan Gabrio, Head of Connected Experience Center at Samsung Electronics America, outlined the ways in which AI technology is transforming how Visual Display products and Digital Appliances are used. For example, Samsung Neo QLED 8K QN900D boasts a built-in AI Processor, NQ8 AI Gen 3, equipped with an 8 times greater AI neural network and a two times faster NPU than its predecessor. Thanks to the NQ8 AI Gen3 processor, Samsung Neo QLED 8K automatically upscales low-resolution content to provide users with up to 8K quality viewing experience and sharpens fast-moving images via AI Motion Enhancer Pro. The Samsung Neo QLED 8K also features Active Voice Amplifier Pro, which analyzes voice and background noise by AI to optimize your TV listening experience so you can enjoy various content as if you are in the front row of a stadium or movie theater. Samsung Neo QLED 8K also features Tizen OS Home, which offers the latest apps, services, personalized content, and service recommendations to upscale your entertainment experience.

As for viewers with different needs, Samsung also provides innovative accessibility features. A sign language feature in Samsung Neo QLED can be easily controlled with gestures for the hearing impaired, and an Audio Subtitle feature turns text subtitles into spoken words in real-time for those with low vision.

Furthermore, Samsung is introducing the new The Premiere 8K, a projector that features not only a 150-inch display, but also the world’s first wireless 8K transmission for a projector. With The Premiere 8K, users will be able to enjoy a full-scale viewing experience like that of the cinema in the comfort of their own homes.

As for sound, Samsung also introduced Music Frame, a speaker with a customizable cover that integrates seamlessly into users’ homes. Via Q-Symphony, the Music Frame syncs with Samsung TVs and soundbars, bringing enriched bass and surround sound of dual built-in woofers to the home with minimal effort.

Samsung has also made major upgrades to Ballie, the rolling AI robot first introduced at CES 2020. Ballie has now evolved into your AI companion capable of interacting with other smart devices to provide customized services such as taking care of bothersome tasks or projecting images and videos on walls so that users can view key information for their daily lives such as weather or other relevant content wherever they are.

To enhance kitchen and food experiences, Samsung is unveiling the Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+^{1 2}. This refrigerator boasts a 32-inch screen that features the new AI Vision Inside³, which uses an internal camera to recognize up to 33 different food items that are put into and taken out of the refrigerator and suggests recipes using those ingredients. Users can also set “use by dates” on the Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub screen for food items, which then allows the refrigerator to send a notification when the set date draws near. By conveniently helping to save money by reducing food waste, these AI features enable more environmentally conscious lifestyles. The Anyplace Induction range takes AI connectivity a step further, as recipes saved on Samsung Food can be shared to the cooktop’s 7-inch display so that users can easily follow along while cooking.

Samsung’s AI technology extends to appliances beyond the kitchen, as well. The new Bespoke AI Laundry Combo — an All-in-One washer and dryer — features the AI Hub⁴, which is a 7-inch LCD display that acts as an intuitive control center for managing laundry, allowing users to enjoy a simple washing and drying experience. It personalizes washing and drying by remembering users’ habits and using machine learning to suggest cycles. Meanwhile, Samsung’s upcoming vacuum and mop robot cleaner, the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo⁵, utilizes AI technology to provide a more convenient, effective cleaning experience. With AI Object Recognition upgraded from the previous robot cleaner lineup, it will be able to distinguish more objects, as well as detect stains and spaces⁶. The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo also recognizes the type of floor it encounters — along with carpet length — and adjusts its settings accordingly.

Samsung Reveals Galaxy Book4 as Company’s Most AI-Ready Laptop Series Yet

Samsung has been elevating what a PC can do and has been collaborating with Microsoft to create new, seamless connected experiences. Now, these experiences are being advanced further with new connectivity features that make the Galaxy Book4 series smoother, smarter, and more adaptable, reinforcing Samsung and Microsoft’s commitment to providing the best PC experience possible.

Using intelligent, intuitive AI capabilities, Microsoft Copilot⁷ connects the Galaxy Book4 series with Samsung Galaxy smartphone to make them work seamlessly together, so that it feels like just one device. Microsoft Copilot can find, read or summarize text messages from a user’s Galaxy smartphone and even automatically create and send messages on a user’s behalf directly from the PC. Without having to turn on the smartphone and open each individual app, the Galaxy Book4 series can access smartphone functions and information more quickly and intelligently.

The Galaxy Book4 series can now turn Samsung Galaxy smartphones’ powerful camera into a PC webcam⁸, using it for video calls on virtual conferencing apps. Users can switch freely between front and rear cameras with just a click on their PC, and it also offers a variety of features from Galaxy smartphones – including Background Blur and Auto-framing – that help focus on the speaker’s image in any environment.

Through tight, ongoing collaboration between Samsung and Microsoft, more intelligent capabilities will continue to be made possible on the Galaxy Book4 series, with the above connectivity features being available starting from March.

Plus, the Galaxy Book4 series can be paired with other Galaxy devices beyond smartphones. Tab S9 Ultra can be used as an additional PC monitor, and users can enjoy crystal-clear sound quality with reduced latency when the PC is connected with Galaxy Buds2 Pro. With all these capabilities and more, the Galaxy Book4 series is designed to deliver the best PC experience possible.

Better Connecting Users and Devices through Spatial Intelligence

Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President and Head of SmartThings, highlighted the exciting new ways in which AI technology is impacting the relationship between users and their devices, including Samsung’s vision for SmartThings: The more Samsung devices a customer uses, the smarter those devices become and the better they can understand and support daily life.

Spatial AI is the key to enabling this vision, by helping devices understand the living space and routines of the user, thus enabling more a personalized home management experience. SmartThings uses LiDAR⁹ on connected devices like robot vacuums to create digital floor plans so users can easily check the status and location of all their devices.  And in March, SmartThings will roll out the upgraded 3D Map View for a more detailed experience on Samsung smartphones and TVs. Furthermore, a simple QR code will allow users to add family and friends to their SmartThings ecosystem, so that every member of the household can create their own routines.

Using smart sensors and AI, SmartThings will be able to detect unusual circumstances, such as a fall, and send alerts to designated family and caregivers¹⁰.  Also, thanks to the Galaxy SmartTag2, users can track their pets’ activities and digitally store identifying information by attaching the tag to a collar or harness¹¹.

Another point EVP Jung discussed was how the Bixby voice assistant is allowing smart homes to become more dynamic with its enhanced AI capabilities. Bixby can now automatically route commands to the most appropriate devices based on an understanding of the user’s location and activities.  Key technologies like Multi Device Wakeup combined with a shared communication protocol, enable Bixby to listen to commands with all the devices in a room but then only perform the requested action on the most relevant device. So if a user is in the kitchen watching a recipe video on their Family Hub, and they can call out, “Hey, Bixby! Play music!”  At that point, music will play from the user’s smart speaker, but the recipe video will continue to play on the Family Hub, uninterrupted.

The TV, with the Samsung Daily+ service, will increasingly become a central hub for much of this smart home functionality, while also granting access to a variety of additional services. These include video calls through ConnecTime, video veterinary consultation services¹², and Workout Tracker — through which workout data can be transferred to Samsung’s smart watches. Samsung also announced the new Samsung Daily Board¹³ service, which displays useful information about users’ homes, such as the weather or a live security camera feed from a home security system without the TV even being turned on.  As is the case with SmartThings features, users can also access this information via voice command.

Bringing the Home and Car Closer Together With Home-to-Car Capabilities

Samsung also announced developments in the automotive industry, starting with a partnership with Hyundai Motor Group.  Samsung and Hyundai have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU), which was announced ahead of CES 2024. Under the agreement, users will have access to Home-to-Car and Car-to-Home services, courtesy of SmartThings connectivity. Haeyoung Kwon, Head of Infotainment Development Center and SDV¹⁴ Execution Sub-Division at Hyundai Motor Group, delivered remarks regarding the partnership.

“Using Hyundai Motor Group’s software-defined vehicle, SmartThings will now work with Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles through the app,” Kwon said. “All of us at Hyundai Motor Group appreciate our partnership with Samsung, and we’re excited about the new features we’re bringing to your vehicles through smarter connectivity.”

Through SmartThings, users will be able to utilize voice commands to remotely perform functions in their car, such as heating it up in advance or opening and closing windows. SmartThings connectivity goes the other way, too, with users able to control home functions from their vehicle. Users will be able to automatically open and close garage doors based on the location of the car, as well as regulate home temperature. All of these actions can be carried out via voice commands.

Additionally, Samsung has further deepened the longstanding partnership with HARMAN to elevate the way users experience driving. Michelle Gattuso, Vice President of Product Management at HARMAN, discussed how the two companies are building new technologies to elevate the driving experience.

“Samsung’s leadership in consumer technology — together with HARMAN’s automotive expertise — has opened the door to game-changing experiences like HARMAN Ready Care, Ready Vision and Ready Display,” Gattuso said. “But now, the work we do with Samsung is getting even more integrated. Samsung and HARMAN are working in lockstep to bring even more impactful experiences to the entire in-cabin ecosystem.”

HARMAN’s Ready Care, which focuses on driver safety, implements deep learning neural networking techniques to monitor the driver’s movement and cognitive alertness, and can provide personalized reminders and alerts. Additionally, Ready Care can now identify whether passengers are adults or children, and adjust airbag deployment settings accordingly.

Furthermore, Ready Vision brings an intuitive display directly to windshields — courtesy of augmented reality — in drivers’ line of sight, right when they need it. For example, drivers have access to a map that updates according to routes in real time, as well as recommendations for the fastest route or where to stop for coffee. Another HARMAN product, Ready Upgrade, allows automakers to frequently update their vehicle’s hardware and software. This keeps vehicles relevant, modern and efficient for longer.

Samsung Focuses on Security and Privacy Across Devices

In this future of AI-enabled, deeply interconnected devices, Samsung recognizes that security and privacy are paramount. Shin Baik from the Mobile eXperience Security Team discussed the company’s security solutions as a foundation for the hyper-connected era.

One such solution is Samsung Knox Matrix, which now provides end-to-end encryption across many Samsung Galaxy smartphones and smart TVs. The technology will allow devices to monitor each other to identify and isolate security threats. Knox Vault, which helps keep user data safe on some of Samsung’s most popular devices, has been expanded to cover more devices connected by SmartThings, such as Samsung Neo QLED 8K TVs. Additionally, Samsung’s partnerships with major tech companies allow users to experience security and privacy in a way that is tailored to their specific needs.

Samsung Makes Strides in Responsible Materials, Energy Management, and Accessibility

Meanwhile, Inhee Chung, Vice President of the Samsung Corporate Sustainability Center, highlighted Samsung’s plans for a more circular economy. As part of these plans, Samsung increasingly incorporates recycled materials into its products — including recycled plastic sourced from discarded fishing nets in Galaxy devices¹⁵, recycled plastic in TVs, and recycled aluminum in Bespoke refrigerators¹⁶. Additionally, the company’s Certified ReNewed program — available in the U.S. and select European countries — offers affordable refurbished phones, while Galaxy Upcycling allows consumers to reuse or repurpose their old phones in creative ways. The company plans to scale up recycling and upcycling, as well.

As for the ways Samsung’s technology contributes to sustainability efforts, the company is utilizing AI to make the use of its products more energy-efficient through features like SmartThings AI Energy Mode, which automatically optimizes energy usage to help users save electricity. These features are yet another example of how AI technology will not only make lives easier, but also allow consumers to live in a way that is more environmentally and economically responsible.

Thanks to a new collaboration with Tesla, SmartThings Energy is becoming even more useful both inside and outside of the home. The collaboration has integrated SmartThings Energy with Tesla products, including electric vehicles (EVs), the Powerwall home battery, Solar Inverter and Wall Connector EV charging solution.  Another benefit is that SmartThings Energy users can take advantage of the Tesla app’s Powerwall “Storm Watch” function, which flags severe weather through SmartThings not only on the Tesla app, but also on users’ connected Samsung TVs and mobile phones. SmartThings can also help users prepare for power outages by activating AI Energy Mode to extend the usage time of backup energy stored in their Tesla Powerwalls.

Samsung is adding new features to increase device accessibility, such as digital appliances responding to hands-free gestures. Additionally, mobile devices provide auto-generated captions during calls, and TVs and displays offer a new, AI-enabled text-to-speech feature that converts subtitles into spoken audio. To further aid those with low vision, Relumino Together is a new viewing mode on Samsung TVs that enables users of all abilities to watch TV together, with or without visual adjustments. Now, everyone can enjoy home entertainment together at the same time.

“Tesla Energy’s customers can now manage and monitor the power status of their homes through SmartThings Energy and Samsung devices in addition to the Tesla app, ensuring more access and connectivity,” said Chanwoo Park, EVP and Head of IoT Development Team of Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics. “This new collaboration is a key milestone for Samsung Electronics in making our solution more widely available beyond home appliances.”

The key consumer benefit of Samsung’s collaboration with Tesla allows SmartThings Energy to connect to Tesla Powerwall, Solar Inverter, Wall Connector charging and EVs, allowing SmartThings Energy to display information relating to users’ energy production, storage and usage.

Additionally, consumers will be able to better prepare for power disruptions and outages through SmartThings Energy’s ability to sync with the Tesla app’s Powerwall “Storm Watch” function. This means that in the case of extreme weather events such as typhoons or heavy snowfall, users can be alerted through SmartThings on their connected Samsung TVs and mobiles in addition to the Tesla app. What’s more, they can activate AI Energy Mode before and during power outages to extend the remaining backup energy stored in Tesla Powerwall.

Samsung’s utilization of the Tesla API is part of its continual drive toward making substantial progress on the Net Zero Home project and enhancing the multi-device experience of SmartThings users.

Samsung Electronics today announced a collaboration with Hyundai Motor Group to expand its SmartThings platform to support connected cars, including electric vehicles (EVs). The announcement came after the companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on January 3 to develop solutions for future lifestyles that fully integrate the smart home and connected cars.

The two companies will work together for the next-generation smart home to connect Samsung’s SmartThings with Hyundai and Kia’s connected cars, including EVs, to develop the “Home-to-Car” and “Car-to-Home” services as well as an integrated home energy management service.

The Home-to-Car and Car-to-Home services connect the smart home with in-vehicle infotainment systems, allowing for remote control in both directions. Through the SmartThings platform, users will be able to perform a variety of actions pertaining to their cars while at home — starting them, controlling smart air conditioning, opening and closing windows and checking their charging status. And from cars, the control of home appliances such as TVs, air conditioners and EV chargers will also be possible.

“This collaboration will enable communication from Home-to-Car and integrated home energy management services that are optimized for future lifestyles,” said Chanwoo Park, Executive Vice President at Samsung Electronics. “By connecting the SmartThings platform with vehicles, we’ll be able to significantly enhance the customer experience in both the home and the car.”

Users will be able to adjust their environments with SmartThings by simultaneously operating multiple devices — including vehicles — through routines such as “good morning routine” and “arriving home routine.” For example, when a Galaxy smartphone’s morning alarm goes off, the curtains will automatically open, and the lights and television will turn on. When users are ready to go out for work, the user’s car will adjust itself to an ideal temperature. Also, the smartphone and TV screens will display information such as the EV’s remaining battery and driving range.

“This is an opportunity to make the connected car’s Car-to-Home and Home-to-Car services more convenient in various fields,” said Haeyoung Kwon, Vice President of Hyundai and Kia’s Infotainment Development Center. “We plan to accelerate our technology development to continuously make global Hyundai and Kia customers’ journeys meaningful.”

The integrated home energy management service will allow users to monitor how much energy is consumed by the connected devices in their homes. Energy information of their EVs and chargers will also be available, enabling users to adjust the optimal time for charging their vehicles. EVs connected to the integrated home energy management service offer the possibility of automatically setting the optimal time for charging by factoring in different pricing by time of day,¹ the power demand response (DR) program,² photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage system (ESS) data,³ and time-specific carbon emissions.⁴

To further strengthen Car-to-Home services, Samsung is working closely with HARMAN, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics. HARMAN’s “Ready Upgrade” is a digital cockpit package product that allows hardware and software upgrades. With Ready Upgrade, users will be able to install SmartThings functions to utilize various Car-to-Home services.

Samsung Electronics today announced new Odyssey OLED gaming monitors debuting at CES® 2024, the world’s biggest tech event owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association® (CTA), in Las Vegas next week.

The new OLED models deliver on the performance and visual clarity gamers look for in their monitors and include the Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SD model), Odyssey OLED G8 (G80SD model) and the Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SD model).

The Odyssey OLED G9 is a 49” curved ultra-wide gaming monitor with DQHD (5,120 x 1,440) resolution, a 32:9 aspect ratio and other upgraded features. The Odyssey OLED G8 is the first flat 32” Samsung OLED gaming monitor with 4K UHD (3,840 x 2,160) resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. Both monitors have a 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms GTG response time.¹ The Odyssey OLED G6 is a 27” QHD (2,560 x 1,440) monitor which supports a 16:9 aspect ratio, 360Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms GTG response time.

Technologies Enabling Delicate Nuance

All three new models feature OLED Glare-Free technology that minimizes light reflections, enabling an enhanced viewing experience without extra equipment, so users can play games with consistent brightness and color in nearly any lighting environment.

With VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400, the monitors deliver incredible details and vivid colors independent of the game or content being displayed. What’s more, they support AMD FreeSync Premium Pro for ultra-smooth, low-latency HDR gaming.

The three new monitors bring comprehensive physical connectivity, with two HDMI 2.1 ports, a USB hub and a DisplayPort 1.4 input. Users will also enjoy better comfort and convenience with VESA mount² compatibility and a height adjustable stand (HAS) that features tilt, swivel and pivot³ control points.

Connected Experiences in a Complete Ecosystem

The Odyssey OLED G9 and Odyssey OLED G8 now offer Multi Control, a new feature that provides seamless device connectivity for an easier, improved multi-device experience. Multi Control allows users to seamlessly transfer images and/or text between their Samsung monitor and other Samsung devices — including their Galaxy Book, tablet or phone — for a smoother, more efficient work process using their mouse and keyboard.⁴

Additionally, the Odyssey OLED G9 and Odyssey OLED G8 include the Samsung SmartThings Hub. With the built-in hub, users can connect to various IoT devices that are compatible with Matter and the Home Connectivity Alliance (HCA), for device control.⁵

When switching from work to play, the Odyssey OLED G9 and Odyssey OLED G8 monitors are all-in-one entertainment hubs. Equipped with the Samsung Smart TV platform and Samsung Gaming Hub, they provide access to streaming and cloud gaming services without downloads, storage constraints or the need for a PC/console.⁶

A Sleek Design To Light Up Any Space

For the first time, Samsung has brought flat OLED options to the Odyssey lineup and a 16:9 aspect ratio to the Odyssey OLED G8 and Odyssey OLED G6. The new models leverage the Odyssey OLED lineup’s unique, slim metal design and include new Core Lighting+ to fit in their slim bezels.

Core Lighting+ immerses users in the environments of their games and entertainment by emitting ambient light from the back of the monitor. And with a lighting circle four times slimmer than the previous model (G95SC model), it fits in seamlessly with the slim 3.9mm metal bezel. There’s also a new slim metal stand that adopts a tool-free assembly structure, using a 3mm metal plate that provides harmony with the display design and opens up space for other devices.

With the unveiling of these new models, Samsung has further strengthened its OLED lineup and bolstered its leadership position in the gaming monitor market. Together, the Odyssey OLED innovations and the continued advancements of the Odyssey Neo series — which saw the release of the world’s first Dual UHD gaming monitor last year with the 57” Odyssey Neo G9 (G95NC model) — are delivering features and performance that will help define the future of gaming.

Samsung Electronics today announced it will be showcasing new innovative projects developed from its C-Lab program at CES® 2024, which runs from January 9 through 12. During the showcase, Samsung will highlight 15 startups and projects — the highest number the company has ever featured — at Eureka Park at the Venetian Expo in Las Vegas, the main exhibition space for startups at the world’s biggest tech show.

This year’s CES is expected to feature more than 1,000 startups and attract more than 130,000 visitors from around the world, including business executives, investors and media. At the event, Samsung expects startups from C-Lab to assess global market responses, strengthen their business feasibility and meet with investors.

“The goal of the C-Lab program is to elevate a platform for startups to grow and flourish,” said Pilgyu Jeon, Executive Vice President and Head of the Creativity & Innovation Center at Samsung Electronics. “CES is the perfect venue for these exciting companies and projects to show major tech players that they belong on the global stage.”

The C-Lab program was created in 2012, and since it was established, Samsung has nurtured a total of 872 startups and projects. This includes 475 through C-Lab Outside and 397 through C-Lab Inside. In particular, 537 C-Lab startups (62 from C-Lab Spin-off and 475 from C-Lab Outside) have raised a cumulative total of $1 billion in investment.

C-Lab Outside: Ten Startups That Include AI, Energy and Healthcare Products

C-Lab Outside was created in October 2018, and startups selected for the program receive full support — including office workspaces, customized development programs and investment — along with business cooperation from Samsung Electronics. Dr.Tail, an online veterinary consultation service, has collaborated with Samsung Electronics to bring its services to Samsung Smart TVs¹ and will be exhibited at the C-Lab booths at CES.

In addition to Dr.Tail, Samsung Electronics will exhibit nine other startups selected and supported by the C-Lab Outside program:

Two C-Lab Inside Projects From Samsung Employees and Three C-Lab Spin-off Startups That Started at Samsung

Samsung has been exhibiting its C-Lab Inside projects at CES since 2016 and this year’s CES exhibit will feature two projects that are currently being fostered in-house. These projects are from the healthcare and pet-tech sectors and have been highly regarded for their innovation, marketability and completeness:

• ID.EARS: A healthcare platform that analyzes brain waves captured by earbuds
• DumboCam: A pet training platform that utilizes Vision AI

In 2016, Samsung Electronics introduced its C-Lab spin-off program, which allows C-Lab Inside projects with high market potential to be launched as fully-fledged startups. C-Lab Startups Win 23 CES 2024 Innovation Awards

In November 2023, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) announced the winners of the CES 2024 Innovation Awards, including the award for Best of Innovation. Projects from the C-Lab program received one Best of Innovation Award and 22 Innovation Award Honorees.

Samsung is sharing its knowledge of winning CES Innovation Awards and entering the global market with C-Lab startups, which has allowed them to find success. At CES 2024, 16 C-Lab Outside startups were named as Innovation Award Honorees. As for C-Lab Spin-off startups, one project received a Best of Innovation Award and four were named Innovation Award Honorees.

Specifically, STUDIO LAB — a startup spun off in 2021 — won the CES Best of Innovation Award in the Artificial Intelligence category. The company’s products include Seller Canvas, an AI-based commerce detail page automation service, and Photo-bot, an automated commerce photography robot that combines AI and robotics.

Yellosis and DEEPX — two of the startups being exhibited at the C-Lab booths — were named CES Innovation Awards Honorees in three categories. Yellosis is a digital health startup spun off in 2020 that developed Cym702 Seat, a smart toilet that automatically measures liquid body waste and provides health management solutions. The company also developed Cym702 Circle, a smart toilet that simply measures glucose in liquid body waste in public restrooms. Yellosis was named a CES Innovation Award Honoree in three categories, including Digital Health, Smart Cities and Human Security for All.

DEEPX was founded in 2018 and develops edge AI chips for computational processing of AI algorithms such as deep learning-based object recognition, face/voice recognition, image classification and image quality improvement. DEEPX is the first AI semiconductor company to win CES Innovation Awards Honorees in three categories, including Embedded Technologies, Robotics and Computer Hardware & Components.

Bespoke Jet Bot Combo¹ Brings a Bevy of Advanced, AI-Based Features² for a Cleaner Home

The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo is an AI-applied vacuum and mop robot cleaner that improves the user experience both during and after cleaning. The upgraded AI Object Recognition applied to the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo evolves from the technology previously introduced in the Bespoke Jet Bot AI+. It expands the number of objects it can distinguish, enabling more precise driving thanks to the 3D sensor applied.

The most notable improvement is that AI Object Recognition can also recognize space and stains to provide users with better cleaning experiences. It determines and categorizes mapped areas like a living room and a kitchen, and automatically suggests setting up “no-go zones” such as the bathroom, the veranda or the entrance, to ensure the robot vacuum avoids designated areas. Meanwhile, when the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo detects a stain, it goes back to the clean station to heat the mop pads with high temperature steam and water and then returns to the area. With powerful spinning mops at 170 RPM, it can actively scrub off even hardened stains. These result in highly effective autonomous cleaning that reduces user intervention in a variety of environments.

Additionally, the model can even sense the floor type to provide enhanced cleaning, using a feature called AI Floor Detect. It distinguishes between hard floors and carpeting, and then automatically boosts its suction power which is appropriate even to vacuum up deep-lying dust in carpets. Furthermore, it helps prevent users’ carpets from getting wet and being contaminated by dirty mop pads. When the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo detects a carpet, it determines whether to lift up the mop pads or to detach them at the clean station to provide the improved anti-cross contamination solution.

The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo fully cares about the last minute of the cleaning experience. The clean station supplies a 3-step Total Cleaning System for mop pads, which includes auto wash, steam cleaning and auto dry with hot air. After it washes the mops with hot water heated by high temperature steam, it then sprays steam on them to prevent odors, enabling more hygienic maintenance.

AI Features That Enable Food Ideas and Intelligence

To enhance the experience in the kitchen, the 2024 Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+ has been packed with a variety of innovative technologies. One impressive new feature is AI Vision Inside, which uses a smart internal camera that can recognize items being placed in and out of the refrigerator. Also, it is equipped with “Vision AI” technology, which can identify up to 33 different fresh food items based on a predefined set of training data comprising approximately one million food photographs.² With the food list that is available and editable on the Family Hub+ screen, users can also manually add expiration date information for items that they would like to keep track and the refrigerator sends out alerts through its 32” LCD screen for items before reaching that date.

Also, with the assistance of the Fridge Manager feature, which monitors the status of the water filter in the refrigerator and alerts when a replacement is needed, the Family Hub+ screen offers easy, one-click purchase of new water filters from Amazon.³

Appliance screen functionality does not stop there. Samsung’s new Anyplace Induction Cooktop and Slide-in Range are each equipped with a 7” LCD screen, where users can view the recipes that were selected and saved from the Family Hub+ to assist their meal preparation. The new Anyplace Induction also offers improvements in its basic cooking features such as efficient and borderless heating of pots and pans on any part of the cooktop, thanks to Samsung’s induction sheet coil technology. And with Anti-Scratch Glass applied instead of a typical ceramic glass, users won’t have to worry about scratching their induction surface when moving cookware.

What’s more, the Samsung Food application — which can now be accessed on the Family Hub+, the Anyplace Induction Cooktop and the Slide-in Range — brings several upgraded AI features. The “Personalize” feature⁴ powered by the enhanced Food AI allows users to adapt recipes to reflect their dietary requirements beyond what was previously available — vegan, fusion — to accommodate gluten-free, pescatarian, dairy-free and other diets. Meanwhile, the new “Image-to-Recipe” feature⁴ with the enhanced Vision AI now recognizes meals and multiple food items from photographs and explores dishes that can be made with those ingredients. Lastly, Tailored Meal Plan analyzes users’ information by connecting to their Samsung Health profiles⁵ to create personalized meals based on their health needs.

AI-Powered Connected Appliances and Features for an Enhanced Kitchen Every Day

With the Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator with AI Family Hub+ as the centerpiece, the food ecosystem is all about how the AI features in these kitchen products and the Samsung Food service connect and support each other, enabling users to have a better relationship with their food throughout the day and delivering a full range of smart, connected kitchen experiences.

Samsung Food also connects with and ties in Samsung Health⁶ to benefit the lives of users. The service uses health information collected from Samsung Health to suggest healthy, appropriate recipes. After that, users can send cooking instructions for these recipes to their various kitchen appliances with just a few key presses.

Then there is Tap View,⁷ which offers enhanced convenience by allowing users to easily mirror the display of their Galaxy smartphones to the Family Hub+ screen. The event is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. local time (5:00 p.m. EST) at the South Pacific Ballroom, North Convention Center, Mandalay Bay Hotel. Samsung Food – The recently launched Samsung Food utilizes advanced AI technology to optimize the benefits users get from Samsung apps, smart home appliances and devices — and was accordingly honored in the AI category. The app is powered by Samsung’s cutting-edge Food AI and works in conjunction with Samsung SmartThings Cooking and Samsung Family Hub+ refrigerators. Highlight features include personalized recipe recommendations based on the user’s dietary goals and activity levels and access to various cooking communities where users can share recipes and tips.

SmartThings Energy – Recognized in the Smart Home category, SmartThings Energy lets users take more control of their carbon footprints and lower their monthly energy bills. It offers AI Energy Mode, which monitors the energy usage of connected appliances and automatically optimizes their operation to reduce consumption, and the new Carbon Intensity Awareness feature, which provides insight into local energy production and carbon intensity. It can also automatically adjust devices enrolled in Demand Response programs, helping users to earn cash rewards and savings during high energy consumption periods.

Less Microfiber Filter – Earning recognition in the Sustainability category, the Less Microfiber Filter is an external washing machine filter that can reduce the release of microfibers during laundry cycles. Running a washing machine four times per week with the filter can reduce the amount of microfibers equivalent to eight 500ml plastic bottles per year.¹ With built-in Wi-Fi, users can check the filter’s status on the SmartThings app and even receive alerts for cleaning or replacement.

Exynos Connect U100 – Recognized in the Embedded Technologies category, Samsung’s Exynos Connect U100 is an ultra-wideband (UWB) solution that provides highly accurate distance and location information for mobile, automotive and IoT devices.

Utilizing both time of arrival (ToA) and 3D angle of arrival (AoA) measurements, the Exynos Connect U100 achieves single-digit centimeter accuracy and under five degree precision. This makes it particularly suitable for tracking locations in challenging indoor environments as well as for AR and VR applications that require precise real-time tracking of moving people.

Challenging Innovators To Ideate for a Better Future

Following the announcement of its New Environmental Strategy in September 2022, Samsung has been working closely with startups to invest in and develop innovative technologies capable of helping the planet.

To further these efforts, Samsung and XTC have announced the Samsung Climate & Circularity Tech Challenge. This competition, focused on circular economy and climate change, seeks to identify new leading solutions that are in line with the values of Samsung’s New Environmental Strategy.

Participants are encouraged to submit ideas that address resource circularity as related to not only the processing, sorting and extraction phases but also climate change innovation as related to carbon emission measurement and management and carbon emission reduction and offsetting. Selected entries may be considered for implementation into Samsung’s wide range of products and associated manufacturing processes.

The Samsung Climate & Circularity Tech Challenge is open to tech-for-good founders and innovators. Besides having the opportunity to see their ideas form the next generation of home electronics, successful participants will receive exposure on the global stage as well as the potential for investment and corporate strategic partnerships. Winning entries will also be allocated a presence within Samsung’s exhibition at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, U.S.

Those interested in the challenge are able to apply before applications close on August 6, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.¹ Finalists will be announced on August 28, ahead of a live final event on September 18.
