The cinema industry is undergoing a profound transformation. As audiences increasingly seek premium and luxury experiences, theaters are evolving to deliver immersive, differentiated environments — and Samsung Electronics is at the forefront of this revolution.

Raising the bar for cinema innovation, Samsung unveiled the latest model of Onyx (ICD) in March. The next generation of cinematic experiences will be defined by immersive visuals, improved comfort and a reliable viewing experience.

In this article, Samsung Newsroom takes a closer look at the company’s vision for the future of cinema in terms of Visuals, Space and Consistency.

Visuals — An Out-of-This-World Screen Experience

Immersion is at the heart of the cinematic experience — a setting designed to transport audiences into the world of the film. Only in an environment free from the everyday distractions such as constant calls, notifications and household chores can viewers fully engage with the story unfolding on the screen.

A true cinematic experience faithfully delivers the filmmaker’s vision, presenting every detail, color and shadow exactly as intended. Onyx brings that vision to reality.

▲ Pixar’s Inside Out 2 shown on Samsung Onyx, demonstrating the display’s peak brightness and vibrant color accuracy

Onyx, the world’s first cinema LED display certified1 by Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI), delivers superior picture quality in 4K HDR resolution with vivid colors, deep blacks and infinite contrast. The clarity, precision and rich detail in each frame help give life to the narrative. Gone are the days of poor edge resolution and inconsistent brightness.

▲ Samsung Onyx enhances Pixar’s Lightyear (top) and Soul (bottom) with outstanding contrast, making dark scenes more vivid and immersive

The Onyx screen can lend its brightness and clarity to applications other than movie screenings — live sports, concerts, gaming events and corporate presentations, for example. The ability to host alternative content empowers theaters to diversify their offerings and create new revenue streams without compromising the premium viewing experience.

▲ A live concert seen on Onyx, demonstrating the display’s color accuracy and sharp details

Space — More Room for Comfort and Flexibility

Comfort and spatial design are also key factors that set premium cinemas apart. Much like the distinction between economy and business class on an airplane, the seating experience can make or break a theater’s appeal. As theaters evolve into premium auditoriums, spacious, comfortable seating becomes essential.

Onyx helps enable this transformation. Unlike traditional projectors which require separate projection rooms and large setups, Onyx’s cinema LED technology maximizes the available space in a theater. This allows cinemas to optimize their auditorium spaces and provides more flexibility to install specialized seating like larger recliners or dining tables.

Furthermore, new Onyx (ICD) offers flexible scaling options, allowing screens to be customized to fit the dimension of each auditorium, ensuring the best use of space without sacrificing picture quality and comfort.

▲ Pixar’s Elio screened on Samsung Onyx featuring luxury seating for a premium cinema experience

With Onyx, every seat in the theater offers a reliable high-quality visual experience — no edge distortion or resolution loss — ensuring that the entire audience is fully immersed in the story. The combination of optimized space, enhanced comfort and stunning visuals elevates the overall cinema experience.

▲ Samsung Onyx empowers theaters to deliver a premium cinema experience and luxury dining for customers.

Consistency — Reliable Viewing Quality With Smarter Management Tools

We go to the theater to be transported — to lose ourselves in the world of a story. But experiences in traditional projection-based theaters can deteriorate with picture quality that varies depending on the age and condition of the equipment.

Samsung’s Cinema LED screen, on the other hand, features an ‘Auto Calibration Solution’ that automatically adjusts color consistency across each module, ensuring optimal picture quality — not just at installation, but every step of the way through ongoing maintenance.

Onyx also offers the industry’s first and longest 10-year warranty for cinema LED,2 raising the bar for long-term reliability in cinema technology.

▲ Samsung Onyx, an out-of-this-world cinema LED display

Since debuting the world’s first Cinema LED screen in 2017, Onyx has built strong partnerships with major global film studios, earning trust and recognition across the industry. As the leader in Cinema LED technology, Samsung is committed to pushing boundaries — so the magic of the movies is always seen exactly as it was meant to be.

With Samsung Onyx, the future of premium cinema is brighter, clearer and more immersive than ever before.

1 Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) is a consortium of major film studios established to define specifications for an open architecture in digital cinema systems.
2 Based on internal research and publicly available information. Onyx includes a standard three-year warranty, with options to extend coverage up to 10 years.

Samsung Electronics reaffirmed its leadership as a pioneer in cinema LED technology at CinemaCon 2025, the ‘largest and most important gathering of movie theater owners from around the world,’ held in Las Vegas, Nevada from March 31 to April 3. At this event, Samsung unveiled the latest Samsung Onyx cinema LED screen with its unmatched picture quality, industry-leading reliability and expanded scalability to meet the evolving needs of theaters worldwide.

With nearly 6,000 industry professionals from more than 80 countries coming together to celebrate the moviegoing experience, CinemaCon is essential for companies that serve the cinema industry. Samsung invited industry professionals to its immersive booth to discover the latest in premium theater technology and watch films from leading studios.

▲ Attendees arriving at CinemaCon 2025 at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas; Inside Out 2 displayed on Samsung’s QMD supersized 105” signage

Redefining Luxury Theater Experiences with Samsung Onyx

At the booth, theater owners and industry leaders had a chance to experience films, including Elio (2025) on the new Samsung Onyx screen, showing attendees a cinematic experience that is unmatched with true black levels, infinite contrast ratio and exceptional color accuracy.

▲ Pixar’s Elio screened on Samsung Onyx at CinemaCon 2025

The new Samsung Onyx screen supports frames up to 4K 120Hz1 to deliver ultra-smooth motion and razor-sharp quality that brings out more details on screens. Further, Onyx can reach peak brightness levels of 300 nits (86.7fL), six times brighter than traditional cinema standards, which means the brightest details on the screen remain visible to the audience.2

While traditional projectors often appear dim in larger theaters and struggle with washed-out colors in bright scenes, Samsung Onyx maintains exceptional brightness to reveal rich details in shadows, intense highlights and stunning color accuracy across the spectrum.

“The color and vibrancy are very rich,” said Cynthia Lusk, Director of Creative Film Services and International Production at Pixar Studios. “On the Onyx display, there are details of the characters shown that I haven’t seen on a screen before.”

Just one year after offering CinemaCon attendees a first look at its initial Cinema LED screen, Samsung Electronics will officially launch its new Onyx brand at this year’s event. All venues featuring Samsung’s enhanced screen will operate under the “Samsung Onyx Theater” name moving forward.

Inspired by the gemstone of the same name, the Samsung Onyx brand alludes to the display’s ability to showcase cinema content with true, deep and realistic black colors. Combining an infinite contrast ratio and specialized low-tone grayscale settings, this pinpoint representation produces brighter and more detail-rich content.

“By aligning brilliant, uniform color presentation with LED picture quality and crystal-clear audio, the Samsung Onyx screen invites movie enthusiasts into the most immersive and memorable viewing arena available and repositions the theater as an entertainment haven,” said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are thrilled to deliver a new and exciting theater experience to operators, managers and consumers around the world, and we look forward to working further with leading decision-makers in the movie industry to usher in the next generation of cinema.”

The Next Generation of Cinema

Available in variations extending between 5 and 10.3 meters (16.4-33.8 ft.) in width, the Samsung Onyx display accommodates any venue configuration while delivering visual quality, technical performance and reliability beyond that of traditional projector-based operations. With the 4K model earning validation as the world’s first Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI)-certified theater display, the Samsung Onyx translates the combination of advanced LED and High Dynamic Range (HDR) picture quality to lifelike big screen content.

CinemaCon 2018 attendees also will be among the first to experience the Samsung Onyx’s powerful multi-sensory viewing environment. Each Samsung Onyx screen features state-of-the-art surround sound from HARMAN International, bringing scenes to life through clear and consistent audio. This integration eliminates rearward bias by expanding the audio “sweet spot” within Onyx theaters, and ensures that all attendees can enjoy the same presentation regardless of seat location.

Samsung will also preview the Onyx’s ready-made sequel at CinemaCon 2018. The 3D Onyx Cinema LED screen makes 3D movie content more realistic through enhanced brightness and consistent color amplification. Glass-wearing viewers can now enjoy subtitle text, images and even minor visual details with unprecedented clarity, and without the dark, blurry shadowing and potential dizziness that can occur in traditional 3D movie theaters.

Expanding Presence through Worldwide Partnerships

The Onyx’s debut at CinemaCon 2018 comes as Samsung continues to expand its presence among global cinema operators and audiences. Last week, Samsung and partner Moving Image Tech (MIT) opened the first U.S. Onyx theater at Hollywood’s Pacific Theatres Winnetka w/XD. Samsung also recently announced partnerships with Golden Screen Cinemas – the largest cinema company in Malaysia, with 35 venues and 328 screens throughout the nation – and Cineplexx Cinemas – the largest cinema company in Austria, with 171 screens nationwide – to bring the Onyx screen to movie-goers in each country. The first locally revamped Samsung Onyx theaters are expected to open in Kuala Lumpur and Vienna, respectively, later this year.

“As the heart of the American film industry, Hollywood is an appropriate and symbolic location to introduce a game-changing technology in the Samsung Onyx for movie producers and consumers,” said Ron Gazzola, SVP, Sales and Marketing, IT B2B Division at Samsung Electronics America. “We are excited to revolutionize the cinema experience, and look forward to sharing the Samsung Onyx with even wider audiences both in the U.S. and throughout the world.”

As more theaters upgrade to the Onyx screen, Samsung is working with cinema content developers to ensure that the display can optimize upcoming films. Samsung will collaborate with leading cinema technology services provider Ymagis Group and its Eclair content development business unit to deliver EclairColor® HDR-compliant pictures that shine on the Onyx screen. CinemaCon 2018 attendees will get a sneak peek at the benefits of this alliance, as Samsung will unveil EclairColor-enhanced visuals on its next-generation display. Samsung additionally has forged a partnership with Hollywood-based post-production company Roundabout to develop specialized Onyx-ready HDR content.

“Today’s movies feature the most sophisticated production and advanced graphics ever, and producers and directors need powerful theater technology to showcase their works as intended and at optimal quality,” said Jean Mizrahi, president and co-founder of Ymagis Group. “We anticipate dynamic and powerful cinema displays like the Onyx becoming the accepted industry standard in the coming years, and we are honored to partner with Samsung to drive change throughout the industry and ultimately improve the content experience for cinema-goers everywhere.”

At CinemaCon, Samsung will additionally highlight its partnerships with production equipment businesses, such as the new research and development initiative performed in conjunction with Arnold & Richter Cine Technik (ARRI), a Munich-based designer and manufacturer of specialized motion picture camera and lighting systems, to create Onyx-optimized content. Samsung is also collaborating with GDC Technology, a leading global provider of end-to-end digital cinema solutions, to develop Onyx-compatible cinema servers.

Taking place April 23-26, 2018 at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, CinemaCon is the official convention of the National Association of Theater Owners with participants from more than 80 countries expected to attend.

Samsung Electronics today announced a partnership with the world’s largest theater operator Wanda Cinemas to bring its pioneering Cinema LED Screen technology to Wanda’s Wujiaochang theater, located in Shanghai’s Yangpu District. The theater marks the first implementation of Samsung’s Cinema LED Screen in China, and follows successful implementations in Asia last year in Seoul and Busan, Korea, and Bangkok, Thailand, and also in Europe, at the Arena Cinemas Sihlcity in Zurich, Switzerland.

“Since its introduction mid-last year, Samsung’s Cinema LED Screen has captivated the cinema industry with its potential revolutionize the theater and filmgoing experience. Through sharper colors, true-to-life audio and an ultra-wide viewing environment, our Cinema LED Screen makes viewers feel as if they are part of the picture,” said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Through Cinema LED, we are confident that consumers in China will embrace the opportunity to engage with their favorite films like never before, and are thrilled to partner with Wanda Cinemas to bring this advanced technology to this growing market.”

The new partnership expands Samsung’s relationship with the world’s leading cinema chain. A Fortune 500 company, Wanda Cinema Line Corp. operates nearly 14,347 screens at more than 1,352 theaters around the world, and also owns recognizable global cinema brands including AMC, Carmike, Odeon and Hoyts Group. Even as Cinema LED at Shanghai’s Wujiaochang theater launches, Samsung and Wanda Cinemas already are finalizing a second cinema conversion in Beijing, with plans to open the venue to the public in the first half of this year.

As the world’s first Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI)-compliant High Dynamic Range (HDR) LED theater display, Samsung’s Cinema LED Screen delivers excellent visual quality, technical performance and reliability that surpass that of legacy projector-based operations. Stretching nearly 10.3 m. (33.8 ft.) wide, the Cinema LED Screen fits comfortably in usual theater configurations, maintaining the same stunning picture quality at even the widest viewing angles. The display also transforms content with ultra-sharp 4K resolution (4,096 x 2,160) and peak brightness levels nearly 10 times greater than the typical cinema standard. As a result, viewers can experience more immersive content supported by bright colors, pristine whites and deep blacks.

To go with the stunning picture technology, Samsung has paired its Cinema LED Screen with state-of-the-art audio technologies from JBL by HARMAN. This integration includes powerful speakers bordering the screen, and an expanded audio “sweet spot” throughout the theater’s seating area, producing a true multi-sensory experience the way the content creators intended.

“As the world’s leading cinema company, our customers expect a differentiated and memorable theater experience both worthy of their investment and reflective of the Wanda Cinemas brand,” said Qi Wang, Vice President, Wanda Film Holding Co., Ltd. “We are honored to work with Samsung to set the new luxury theater standard, and look forward to making the Shanghai Cinema LED theater a must-see destination for both movie enthusiasts and casual consumers alike.”

With the demands for theater space evolving across the industry, Samsung’s Cinema LED Screen will enable Wanda Cinemas to expand the service offerings inside its improved Shanghai theater. The display’s consistent presentation, even against dark or ambient lighting conditions, accommodates non-movie content including gaming competitions, corporate events and presentations, and sports and concert simulcasting, among others.

On November 20, two special guests visited Samsung’s Cinema LED screen at the Super-S Theater in Lotte World Tower, Seoul. On a short visit to Korea, Franz Kraus and Dr. Joerg Pohlman came from Germany to acquaint themselves with Samsung’s new cinema screen technology first-hand. The pair make up the Executive Board of Arnold & Richter Cine Technik (ARRI Group) – a leading designer and manufacturer of camera systems and lights for the motion picture media industry. Founded in 1917 in Germany, ARRI now has subsidiaries across the globe, and every year several hundred feature films are shot with ARRI cameras.

Samsung Newsroom sat down with Kraus and Pohlman to discuss their initial reactions to the screen.

ARRI’s Executive Board, Franz Kraus and Dr. Joerg Pohlman, in front of the Samsung LED Screen

“I have waited for four months to see the Cinema LED screen”

The Cinema LED screen is the world’s first LED screen designed to replace conventional projectors in cinemas. The new screen, which has overcome limits in brightness and a light-to-shade ratio, supports 4K resolution and high dynamic range (HDR), thus producing clear and vivid color. In addition, directly beamed LED light sources prevent color distortions, giving fuller realization to what directors originally intended to express. The innovative screen installed with JBL sound systems of Harmon Kardon provides viewers with a whole new level of audio experience.

Film technology is constantly developing in the digital era. However, film screening is still based on projection, which has served as an obstacle in realizing true and lifelike high-quality resolution. Against this backdrop, the arrival of a Cinema LED screen was a breath of fresh air for the ARRI Executive Board.

ARRI’s Executive Board member, Franz Kraus, recalled the moment when he first heard the news about the Cinema LED screen, saying, “I read the news and I thought: I must go to see it.” At last, four months later, he arrived in Seoul to witness the effects of Cinema LED for himself.

Before the lights were turned off and the Cinema LED screen was turned on, Kraus expressed high expectations for the LED screen, saying, “I expect to see images superior to the best projection system available today in respect to contrast, color rendition, peak brightness, and reproduction of fine detail. I am curious about the local audio resolution as the LED screen doesn’t allow for the usual setup of three or five speakers behind the screen.”

Reviews of the Satisfaction with New Cinema Technology

The pair watched an ARRI show reel which had been remastered for the Cinema LED Screen. Pohlman, Executive Board member at ARRI, admired Samsung’s technology, saying: “Samsung is a pioneer with this technology. For us, it’s always about bringing technology one step further.”

“When you look at movie theaters, I think one of the challenges for them will be to keep up with the development of TV screens. With the advent of HDR, there’s a lot more that can be seen and, in the future, our visual impressions are going to be different from now. It’s about taking time to make sure that theaters in the future will be of a very high quality, so that people will want to watch movies in them.”

“I think LED is showing the right way and certainly you can see a lot more on an LED screen. There’s a lot of detail, it’s very rich in color. Of course, with the blacks there’s the contrast, so it’s a very interesting technology. It’s great that Samsung is moving technology forward.”

The Cinema LED screen boasts an advantage that viewers experience no distortion in images and sound, wherever in the theater they choose to sit. After confirming this for himself by moving from seat to seat in the theater, Kraus expressed full satisfaction with the technology.

Leading Desirable Change in the Film Industry

Since the people of ARRI are creators themselves, this new way to display has certainly piqued the Executive Board’s interest. The two also gave their opinion about the future impact of the Cinema LED screen on the film industry, and on cameras and lighting specifically.

“One of the very simple things that we were looking for was if you would be able to see the seams or any fixed pattern structure from the individual panels,” Joerg Pohlman remarked. “And you really could not see them. I thought it was extremely impressive. The interesting question is whether and how the creatives in our industry will manage to create images that utilize the full capabilities of the LED screen, delivering life-like images in the cinema.”

Franz Kraus added: “Of the images from the ARRI demo reel we watched, some of them worked very well. What I really liked was that the images looked very good, both in SDR as well as in HDR (with ten times the peak brightness). The amount of detail in the darker parts of the image was just marvelous. Even when I strained my eyes, I could not see any trace of technical evidence and the images looked very cinematic.”

Throughout their history, conventional projection systems have been faced with limitations in fully expressing clear and lifelike images. These limits have now been overcome with the emergence of the Cinema LED screen. The Cinema LED screen has become a “must see” for film makers and moviegoers who are seeking a whole new experience in image and sound.

Earlier this year at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Samsung presented the world’s first Cinema LED screen for the film and cinema industry to wide anticipation. The debut was followed by installation of the world’s first commercial Cinema LED screen at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul, Korea in July, and recently in October at the Paragon Cineplex Theatre in Bangkok, Thailand.

With an area of 10.24 x 5.4 meters, Samsung Cinema LED is able to depict current blockbusters in impressive full 4K resolution (4,096 x 2,160 pixels), and with High Dynamic Resolution (HDR), deliver a more captivating and vibrant viewing experience through next-generation picture quality. Samsung Cinema LED screen illuminates its vast display area through use of around 8.8 million LEDs, as well as immerses audiences in true-to-life audio utilizing technology developed in partnership between HARMAN Professional Solutions and Samsung Audio Lab.

With industry professionals and audiences around the world praising their initial experiences with Samsung Cinema LED screen, the innovative cinema technology is now making its way to Europe.

In collaboration with the Arena Cinemas and Imaculix AG, Samsung is currently building Europe’s first Cinema LED screen at the Arena Cinema Sihlcity in Zurich, Switzerland. With launch scheduled, the anticipation and vision for the new theatre concept is groundbreaking.

Edi Stöckli, owner of the Arena Cinemas explained, “Based on elimination of the projector beam and the high luminosity of Samsung Cinema LED screen, there are a host of new possibilities for interior design, and we are entirely removing the existing furnishings, and implementing an innovative seating concept to provide audiences with a totally new kind of cinematic experience.”

Samsung Cinema LED screen will allow creation of a solid black wall thanks to seamless installation and high-precision calibration. The ‘true black’ will make the movie theater pitch dark, and the 4K resolution, able to project the two usual cinema formats of flat and scope, will get rid of distracting dark gray stripes, long a pain point of traditional projectors. Thanks to LED technology, luminosity of the wall will be 10 times brighter than with conventional projectors, achieving intensity of up to 146-foot lambert or 500nit. Cinema LED’s HDR functionally also helps deliver full color brilliance and contrast even in the brightest or darkest of scenes, and the screen also provides significantly reduced energy consumption as compared to conventional projectors.

“At Samsung, our aim in advancing technological progress is to make life easier for people and enrich their lives,” said Daniel Périsset, Head of IT business at Samsung Electronics. “We have once again succeeded in doing this with the new Cinema LED screen, and are actively planning for expansion of the screens in theatres next year.”

In addition to Switzerland, Samsung continues to expand installation of its Cinema LED screen around the world including the USA during 2018.

The Samsung Cinema LED Screen was installed at the Lotte Cinema in Centum City – one of the official theaters of BIFF – in Busan this past September. At this year’s BIFF, which is Asia’s largest film festival, around 300 movies from 75 countries were showcased throughout the festival. Audiences were able to watch the film “Mother!,” featuring actress Jennifer Lawrence and directed by Darren Aronofsky, on the Samsung Cinema LED Screen. The screen received high marks from film industry professionals, in particular for its realistic screen and color depiction keeping to the original intent of directors and producers.

Darren Aronofsky, director of “Mother!,” said, “I got to see [the movie on] this new screen, which is beautiful. I’m hopeful that if I say enough nice things, Samsung will put one in my house.”

Lighting director David Brown, who is known for his work on “The Lord of the Rings” films and “Avatar,” also praised the Cinema LED Screen saying, “I’m genuinely excited to see the Samsung stuff today. I came out of there thinking ‘Yes!’ I mean, this is actually so cool!’’

Darren Aronofsky, Director of “Mother!,” talked to audiences about the Samsung Cinema LED Screen after the movie.

During “Link of Cine-Asia,” the Asian film forum and business showcase of BIFF, Samsung also hosted a seminar for some 150 global movie industry professionals. Included among attendees was renowned camera director Tom Stern whose works include “Million Dollar Baby,” “American Sniper” and “Sully.”

“It’s a little bit like a piano. Would you rather have a piano with 66 keys or 99 keys? Hopefully one day we’re going to have a visual piano with 108 keys, which would be fantastic as a tool for somebody like me,” Stern stated. “I think the Samsung Cinema LED Screen is going to take movies to the next level. It’s going to be a better experience for everyone in the theater.”

Dow Griffith, location manager for “The Bourne Supremacy” and “Ghost in the Shell” also had good things to say about the screen. “I think it will engage all the senses, eliciting much stronger imagination and emotions. And that’s really what people in the entertainment business always strive to do – capture the audience’s emotions.”

The Samsung Cinema LED Screen has already begun to transform the film industry. At the beginning of this month, Samsung entered into an agreement with Major Cineplex, the largest movie theater chain in Thailand to provide its Cinema LED Screen. Samsung is continuing to expand its Cinema LED Screen theaters, with plans to install Cinema LED Screens in 10 percent of cinemas across the world by 2020.

Since it was first used to screen films in 1895, the projector has become symbolic of the movie-viewing experience and of theaters themselves. With the unveiling of its Cinema LED Screen at Seoul’s Lotte World Tower in July, Samsung Electronics introduced a new standard for cinematic immersion – one that captivates audiences not by projecting light onto a screen, but by transforming the screen itself into a massive, vibrant, 4K-resolution display.

Designed as a High Dynamic Range (HDR) LED theater display, the Cinema LED Screen measures nearly 10.3 meters wide and delivers next-generation picture quality with both ultra-sharp 4K (4,096 x 2,160) resolution and peak brightness levels nearly ten times greater (146fL) than those of conventional projectors. All this adds up to distortion-free visuals that feature the brightest colors, the deepest blacks and the whitest whites, and a theater experience that makes viewers feel as if they’re part of the picture.

The Cinema LED Screen’s integration with audio technologies from JBL by HARMAN, meanwhile, provides likewise realistic sound. This state-of-the-art setup includes powerful speakers bordering the screen, proprietary audio-processing technology, and JBL’s Sculpted Surround System. The result of all this innovation is an incredibly accurate sight and sound experience that allows audiences to view films exactly as their creators intended.

Since its debut, Samsung’s first-of-its-kind screen has grabbed headlines around the world, and garnered positive reviews from filmmakers and movie-goers alike, who have tabbed the display as the theater technology of the future. See for yourself, in the video below, what makes Samsung’s immersive screen a game-changer for the industry.

“It truly delivers the emotions I hoped to convey in my film,” South Korean film director Hoon Jang said of Samsung’s Cinema LED Screen after watching his recently premiered film, “A Taxi Driver,” on the display for the first time at the Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul.

The director, who is known for his engaging, well-plotted thrillers such as “Secret Reunion” and “The Front Line,” had already seen the film in several other theaters. However, none of the screenings could compare to the one at the SUPER S theater, the home of the world’s first Cinema LED Screen, a projector-less, HDR screen that creates a captivating viewing experience through next-generation picture quality and true-to-life audio.

Director Jang said that Samsung’s Cinema LED Screen will help audiences to have the same visual experience.

“I’ve been really curious as to what this new screen might be like,” Jang said, referring to the 10.3-meter-wide display, which provides ultra-sharp resolution, bright colors and deep blacks. “Now, I can see that its picture and audio quality will enable directors like myself to more effectively achieve their intended results.”

Jang also noted that the display will help to ensure that all audiences of a film can have the same visual experience, in the way the filmmaker intended. “With conventional projector-based systems, picture quality can differ from theater to theater,” he said. “But the Cinema LED Screen will provide consistent picture quality, no matter the venue in which the film is shown.”

Jang is not the only big name in the industry to be impressed by the visually captivating display.

Director Woo-suk Yang (“The Attorney”) noted at the launching event of the Cinema LED Screen earlier this month that the unveiling of the display marked a “monumental moment” in the 120-year-long history of film, and that Samsung’s technology will create a “revolutionary change” in the way we watch movies.

Director Yang noted at the launching event, “Today marks a monumental moment in the history of movies.”

“It’s been 20 years since the industry began using the term ‘digital cinema’ and it’s only now that we can enjoy motion pictures in a theater directly from the light source, rather than from a projector,” he said. “As a result, there are about to be a lot of changes across the movie industry as a whole – from the actual filming to the editing and finishing processes.”

Unlike standard projectors, which lose color quality as brightness is increased, the Cinema LED Screen maintains perfect color accuracy at peak brightness levels, which are nearly 10 times greater than those of conventional theater projectors. This allows for a more vibrant and immersive viewing experience, as the characters and settings on the screen look exactly as they would in real life. These realistic visuals are complemented by an audio performance that’s just as lifelike, thanks to the screen’s integrated sound technologies from JBL by HARMAN.

As demands within the cinema space evolve, Samsung’s Cinema LED Screen offers the versatility to expand services to meet a wider range of needs. Having already garnered the attention of some of the biggest names in film, Samsung’s Cinema LED Screen is expected to continue to bring big changes to the industry for filmmakers and moviegoers alike.
