Exploring the Odyssey Universe, Discovering Industry-Leading Features

The first thing that gamers encounter in Odyssey Universe is a huge lobby. Five separate worlds are available from the lobby, each with a separate mission available. These worlds — Levels Ark, G9, G8, G7 and G6 — are inspired by and named after the Odyssey gaming lineup.

Let’s take a look at Level Ark. Level Ark offers a mission to escape from a maze by answering Odyssey-based questions. In order to unlock different pathways, players will have to use all the knowledge they have about Odyssey monitors.

Level G9 was inspired by the Odyssey Neo G9, an extremely large display that looks and feels like two monitors combined into one. In Level G9, gamers have to get a golf ball to land in the hole — which might sound easier than it is. An ultrawide 49-inch monitor like the Neo G9’s will help them smoothly complete the mission without too much stress.

Level G8 features a racing track with plenty of curves, representing the curvature of the Odyssey Neo G8 (1000R) and Odyssey OLED G8 (1800R). Racing along the track opens new views of a vast 360° universe for an overwhelmingly immersive experience. Level G8 will provide a challenge, since it has two objectives: a time trial race and counting the number of monitors that appear next to the track while players race by.

To highlight a refresh rate that is essential for gaming monitors, Level G7 was designed as a shooting range. Gamers need to hit all their targets in a limited time, made easier with a refresh rate of up to 240Hz available on the high-end Odyssey monitors.

And at Level G6, gamers need to collect tokens within an overwhelmingly huge shopping mall in a limited time. Gamers will see Odyssey gaming monitors in the stores and come across all the Samsung Odyssey monitors as they hunt their objectives.

For gamers whose blood starts pumping at the thought of a thrilling experience created in Fortnite, Samsung Electronics has prepared a “scavenger hunt” event for gamers to dive into. By following SypherPK and NickEH30 on social media to get clues, players can explore the Odyssey Universe map to find hidden answers in each of the worlds. By submitting answers at the Odyssey Universe event website, they’ll be eligible to enter sweepstakes for Odyssey gaming monitors. Winners will be announced on the Samsung Odyssey Twitch channel on March 30 at 7 p.m. (EST).

Samsung Electronics has announced the release of the Odyssey Universe, a new customized map created for gamers to experience in Fortnite,¹ based on the premium Odyssey series of monitors from Samsung.

The Odyssey Universe is a new in-game experience expressing how the industry-leading Samsung Odyssey monitor lineup helps gamers deliver on the promise of next-generation games.

The Odyssey Universe features each space inspired by the main product name of the Odyssey lineup. The permanent new map is divided into 5 spaces, each of them inspired by and representing an industry-leading entry in the Odyssey monitor lineup. It ranges from the Level Ark, which is derived from the “Odyssey Ark” providing a new frontier of immersion with the 55-inch large screen, to Level G9∙G8∙G7∙G6 in line with products such as Odyssey Neo G9 and G8. Each space will have its own mission for players to clear, with a variety of objectives and rewards during gameplay.

Tune Into the Debut of the Odyssey Universe on Twitch

Kicking off the release of Odyssey Universe, gamers can tune into some of their favorite streamers to see the maps in action on the official Samsung Odyssey Twitch channel with following streamers:

Once gamers figure out the answers, they can submit them at the Odyssey Universe event website to be eligible to enter into a sweepstakes. Design studio URARITY’s Terra Mechanica theme became an instant hit with Galaxy Watch users when it was released in early 2020. The development process saw the company build a physical watch with all the moving components to achieve the theme’s ultra-realistic watch faces.

URARITY has developed a rich portfolio of high-end digital and analogue watch faces over the years. As part of the Samsung Advisory Board, a group of top app, theme, and watch face developers, the studio has been working with Samsung to enhance the Galaxy mobile and smartwatch experience.

Smooth, Stable Performance

Because a phone’s CPU and GPU performance can make or break your gaming experience, Samsung optimized the Galaxy Note9 with a cutting-edge 10-nanometer processor that handles graphics-intensive games with ease. This allows the device to provide 33 and 23 percent better CPU and GPU performance than the Galaxy Note8, helping gamers stay engaged and in the zone.

The Galaxy Note9 also features an on-device AI-based performance-adjusting algorithm that regularly monitors the device’s heat and performance, supporting up to 40 percent more stable FPS when gaming. Thanks to machine-learning technology, the device can predict a change in temperature before it occurs and adjust the CPU and GPU, before a drop in FPS occurs. That means smoother visuals and a more enjoyable experience when playing graphics-intensive games like Fortnite.

Cool Under Pressure

Playing graphics-intensive games for extended periods of time can place a great deal of strain on a phone’s CPU and GPU. To help the Galaxy Note9 perform consistently at a maximum level throughout gaming, the new cooling system needed to be faster and more efficient than previous generations.

The Galaxy Note9’s specially designed Water Carbon Cooling system allows the device to run cool throughout heavy gaming sessions. The system, which was first introduced in the Galaxy S7, utilizes changes in the phases of water to efficiently radiate heat – in a cycle where water in a porous structure absorbs heat, turns into steam, moves through pipes and eventually cools down turning back into water.

Samsung enhanced the system for the Galaxy Note9 with a heat pipe, or ‘thermal spreader’, that’s three times larger than the Galaxy Note8’s, and dissipates heat more effectively. The company also increased the system’s internal water intake to foster greater heat absorption, and incorporated an enhanced carbon fiber TIM (thermal interface material) that transfers heat from the processor to the thermal spreader with 3.5 times greater efficiency, thus boosting thermal conductivity.

Together, these innovations enable the Galaxy Note9 to run smoothly during extended gaming sessions, creating more opportunities to play the games you love.

Giving Gamers More Control

Distractions like phone call and text message notifications can be the worst when playing games on a smartphone. Game Launcher, a one-stop hub for mobile gaming on Samsung’s Galaxy Devices, is the solution to deal with such problems. Offering a range of innovative tools and features, the Game Launcher allows players to streamline and concentrate fully on their mobile gaming sessions by preventing alerts and unintended screen touch. Users can also share their gameplay using the launcher’s screenshot and video record functions.
