Quick Share and Private Share for the New Galaxy Book2 Pro Series Provide Easier, Safer Ways To Share Photos, Videos and Files

Many of us count on PCs to store our most cherished memories. With the Galaxy Book2 Pro series, sharing those memories is easier and faster than ever. Using Quick Share, Galaxy Devices users can wirelessly send photos, videos, documents and more without limitations on the size or number of files.

Before you get started, make sure you have the latest Quick Share app¹ installed on your Galaxy device. Once installed, open the app on the Galaxy Book2 Pro series and drag and drop the files you want to share. The Quick Share app automatically converts unsupported files into a format your friends can easily view, so you don’t have to worry about files not opening. When you’re ready to share, scan through a list of people nearby. Once you’ve selected your recipients, hit send. Quick Share will alert the recipient that you shared the files and let them download the files with just a tap.

Want to share files with people who are using non-Galaxy devices? Quick Share can also generate a QR code with a link² where even non-Galaxy users can access your shared files.

Share With Peace of Mind at Work and School

For times when you need to share sensitive files³ like work reports or school assignments, Private Share on the Galaxy Book2 Pro series provides advanced security based on blockchain technology.

Your data belongs to you, and Private Share helps keep it that way by encrypting your files and setting strict permissions on who can view or re-share them. Private Share lets you share 20 files, totaling 100MB, with five people at a time. Send text files, photos, videos and even PDFs all with peace of mind.

To get started, open the Private Share app and carefully look over the required permissions before choosing the files you want to share. Once you’ve chosen the files, you can decide who gets access, what they can do with your files, and how long they can access them for. You can even revoke access to the files after you’ve shared them if you change your mind or decide the person no longer needs access. Private Share will then encrypt your files before you send them, so you don’t have to worry about third parties gaining access. Advanced security measures in Private Share also protect your files from being saved, screen captured or re-shared by the recipient.

As the sender, you can keep track of when your files were opened, how many days are left for access, and their expiration date.

Reimagining Mobile Computing

Samsung and Intel have a long history of collaboration and co-innovation. Brought together by a shared vision to deliver premier computing experiences, the partnership has enabled Samsung to combine its industry-leading mobile ecosystem with Intel’s innovative PC ecosystem to create devices that are purpose-built for today’s multi-device world.

“Our teams have jointly invested thousands of engineering hours to ensure deep integration at the platform level. We bring the best of both companies to provide a unified experience across all devices with mobility, connectivity and performance,” explained Chris Walker, Intel’s Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Client Platforms, who oversees the company’s product roadmap, engineering, and customer engagement across all mobility segments.

Dr. Hark-Sang Kim, Executive Vice President and the Head of New Computing R&D Team of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics, emphasized that the partnership is driven by the shared mission to innovate quickly to meet the demands of users’ evolving needs.

“Our customers expect their smartphones to offer power and productivity comparable to their PCs, and they want their PCs to behave more like their smartphones, providing connectivity and portability. They also expect reliability, with the assurance that the apps they need will work perfectly, without compatibility issues or hassle. As part of its work with Samsung, Intel established a co-engineering team dedicated to advancing mobile computing innovation and strengthening cross-devices experiences.

A New Standard of Performance in an Ultra-Thin Form Factor

For several years, Samsung and Intel have been working together to create a new category of devices that deliver unparalleled connected experiences for today’s mobile-first consumers. Following thousands of hours of collaboration, the teams realized their vision in the latest Galaxy Book series.

“This partnership had an immediate impact on the next generation of Galaxy Books. The Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360 are optimized for the best Intel Evo platform, ensuring powerful performance and an ultra-thin design for maximum portability and connectivity,” said Dr. Kim. “Galaxy Book users will also enjoy enhanced connectivity with always-connected LTE or 5G and more efficient Wi-Fi connectivity with the most advanced standard available today, Wi-Fi 6E.”¹

Powered by 11th Gen Intel® Core processors and Intel® Iris® X^e graphics, the Galaxy Book series is built to make consumers’ everyday lives simpler, smoother, and more intuitive. Engineers at Samsung and Intel also worked hand-in-hand to ensure that the two devices would Intel Evo platform-verified, guaranteeing that they would provide the powerful performance that users need.

“By measuring workflows under real-world conditions for consistent performance and battery life together, the teams delivered the best possible laptop experience in these thin, light and super sleek form factor,”² explained Walker. “The Galaxy Book Pro series is unique because it has the incredible thinness and responsiveness of a smartphone with the performance of a powerful PC. Together, Samsung and Intel delivered on the promise of uncompromised mobility. We’re setting a new standard for computing.”

Driven by a vision to realize seamless connectivity across devices, Samsung and Intel collaborated to add the SmartThings Find capabilities to the new Galaxy Books.

“More mobile and flexible lifestyles also mean more opportunities to forget your device somewhere. Samsung and Intel worked to fully optimize Intel Bluetooth drivers in order to power Samsung SmartThings Find, an exclusive device location service that provides a sense of security and peace of mind for users on the go,” Dr. Kim explained.

Not only did the project bring SmartThings Find to the Galaxy Books, but the experience also laid the blueprint for future collaborative efforts.

“This has been a true co-engineering effort between Samsung and Intel to deliver this feature in record time, and we will use this to continue to deliver innovation for Samsung devices going forward,” said Walker.

Devices Built for the New Normal

Since virtual connections have become more central to people’s professional and personal lives than ever before, Samsung and Intel engineers focused on creating enhanced collaboration experiences for the Galaxy Book series.

“Our devices should be able to adapt to the way we work. With the Galaxy Book series, we wanted to give users the ability to communicate clearly with others, no matter where they are,” said Dr. Kim.

Harnessing the capabilities of the Intel Gaussian and Neural Accelerator 2.0, or Intel GNA 2.0, Intelligent Noise Cancelling uses artificial intelligence to remove distracting background noises, such as barking dogs, doorbells, and vacuum cleaners, from voice and video calls. Combined with AI-accelerated background blur and integrated Intel® Wi-Fi 6 (Gig+), the Galaxy Book Pro series delivers unmatched video conferencing experiences.

And to help users accomplish more on the go, Samsung and Intel joined forces to bring powerful connectivity solutions to the Galaxy Book series.

“Building on its extensive experience and in-depth expertise in developing mobile connectivity features for Galaxy smartphones, Samsung worked closely with Intel to equip the Galaxy Book Pro line up with three industry-leading connectivity solutions from Intel, including Wi-Fi 6E,³ 5G, and custom Bluetooth enablement. These technologies together enable easy access to gigabit-plus speeds across devices,” said Walker.

Creating Devices for an Inter-Connected World

The Galaxy Book series marks a new chapter in the partnership between Intel and Samsung. The experience not only led to the development of category-defying devices, but also built the foundation for the next stage of innovation.

Having observed this shift, the designers at Samsung Electronics have looked to further enhance the portability of Samsung laptops while also refining their shape and design. Lighter and thinner, and featuring revitalized colors and materials, the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360 were designed to facilitate more frequent use and longer life cycles in order to better complement the way users are living their lives. Samsung Newsroom spoke to the designers from Mobile Communications Business who designed the Galaxy Book Pro and Pro 360 to find out just what went into their innovative designs.

Minimization and Improved Usability

Modern laptops should be both portable enough to carry with you throughout the day and capable enough to be called into use at any moment. Thus, the designers of the Galaxy Book Pro and Pro 360 prioritized lightweight design by making the laptops thinner, lighter and flatter without compromising their high standard of performance. Speaking about the design identity of the Galaxy Book Pro and Pro 360, designer Youngmi Shin said, “We wanted the laptops to have a slim, lightweight form. Portability is becoming even more important as digital lifestyles evolve and diversify, thus we implemented a design that was based on the concept of ‘incomparably slim’.”

But this lightweight aspect does not only apply to the laptops themselves – the designers also redesigned the products’ peripherals and packaging with portability in mind too. In addition to the laptops’ chargers and cables being smaller and lighter, the adapter, mouse, and the laptops themselves can now be stored in a single layer, removing the need for space-consuming stacking. As a result, the size of the Galaxy Book Pro 360 package have been reduced by approximately 39 percent for the 13.3-inch model and 32 percent for the 15.6-inch model.¹ Commenting on how the designers achieved these reductions, designer Dongseok Lee related that, “The key was to improve performance while also reducing the size and weight of the Galaxy Pro series. We worked to overcome long-standing technical limitations and optimized the designs to create the slim, lightweight products.”

Comfortability is also a key factor when it comes to products that are going to be used for a long time. Like with a tablet, the Galaxy Book Pro 360 can be drawn on, written on, and used with the new S Pen, which is 1.4 times longer and 2.5 times thicker than the previous model with a modified texture for a firmer grip and a wider touchpad. The power button and fingerprint sensor have also been combined, while the shift key area has been widened as well.

Portable, Yet Resilient

The challenge for the Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360 designers was to reduce the weight and thickness of the laptops while maintaining their battery power, compute performance and durability. To achieve this, AMOLED panels and new battery packs were applied, the internal design of the laptops was modified and durability improvements were made. As a result, the 13.3-inch Galaxy Book Pro 360 is 11.5mm thick and weighs 1.04kg (Wi-Fi model), while the 13.3-inch Galaxy Book Pro is only 11.2mm thick and weighs as little as 868g (Wi-Fi model), making both laptops easy to hold in one hand and fit into bags. On making the Galaxy Book Pro and Pro 360 more compact, designer Hyeryoung Lee said, “We want users to tangibly experience the slimness and lightness of the products as they unbox them. We have reduced the size and weight of the laptop packages to capture the value of ‘reduction’ across the spectrum of the products.”

In order to pack all the necessary parts into a thinner package, the designers minimized the gaps between internal components while using aluminum and magnesium materials to make the laptops lighter. Great effort was put into finding the ideal thickness for the laptops while maintaining their unique durability and luxurious, metal aesthetics. In collaboration with the engineering team, the designers repeatedly reinforced the laptops’ rigidity to gradually elevate their overall quality and integrity. Asked about how the concept of ‘incomparably slim’ was realized, designer Hoyoung Seoc said, “The non-essential components of the laptops were rearranged as efficiently as possible. The tops were made flatter, the gaps between the components were reduced, and the body was trimmed, all while leaving the port untouched. The power key and fingerprint sensor have also been incorporated for improved usability.”

Timeless Aesthetics

As laptops usually have a relatively long life cycle, the designers of the Galaxy Book Pro and Pro 360 put great thought into how to establish a sophisticated appearance that would stand the test of time. The designers analyzed which colors were least likely to go out of fashion while also looking to ensure that the keyboard layout and size would deliver long-lasting comfort. Commenting on what went into the Mystic color series that was decided upon, designer Yoojin Kim said, “We chose colors that are stylish and always pleasing to the eye. Since users generally replace their laptops quite infrequently, we focused on choosing colors that would remain timeless while highlighting the beauty of the laptops’ metal finishes.”

In both the Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360, outer appearance is tailored to reflect internal performance. The Galaxy Book Pro 360’s color schemes include Mystic Navy, which is sturdy and neutral, Mystic Silver, which makes the metallic appearance come alive, and Mystic Bronze, which is robust and emotive. The Galaxy Book Pro has a lighter feel, and comes in an array of brighter, two-tone shades that were created by combining Mystic Blue, Textured Silver, and Mystic Pink Gold with solid black and white tones. Commenting on the differences between the Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360, designer Minyeong Jeong explained that, “There are differences in colors and materials because the two products are fundamentally different. Since the Galaxy Book Pro 360 is a premium model, the materials and colors are more solid. The Galaxy Book Pro, which is more lightweight, comes in brighter colors and is finished in magnesium.”

By providing innovative answers to long-standing questions, the designers of the Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360 have realized a high standard of durability and usability in sleek laptop packages that are portable enough to take everywhere with you. Thanks to our partnership with Intel, we were able to co-engineer an ultra-thin and light design while never sacrificing the performance of these Evo-certified devices.”
