One of these new connectivity features is Recent Websites² — an update for the Microsoft Phone Link³ App now available across the Galaxy Book series — which allows users to continue browsing sessions from their smartphones on their PCs effortlessly. A great way to hit the ground running when moving from a phone to a Galaxy Book, this feature makes browsing experiences smoother and more mobile, ensuring users never miss a beat in their productivity.

Galaxy Book users can now call up recent sessions from their smartphone with a single click, taking the fuss out of multi-device browsing for responsive, convenient navigation. For instance, say a user wants to research something on their phone and opens multiple tabs. At some point, it might be more efficient to open these same tabs on a bigger screen and start working with some PC applications. With Recent Websites, this task is easier than ever, allowing users to open new tabs without needing to go back to check search terms or browsing histories.

To use Recent Websites, make sure to link your Galaxy smartphone to Galaxy Book through Link to Windows’ on your phone and the Microsoft Phone Link App on your PC. Then simply open the Microsoft Phone Link App or flyout on your PC, which will display a list of websites you recently opened on your smartphone. Clicking on one of these websites will launch it straight away on your Galaxy Book.

Recent Websites is one of a variety of new and upcoming connectivity features that make the connected experience between Galaxy smartphones and the Galaxy Book series richer and more adaptable than ever. Stay Focused and Connected With Phone Link and Link to Windows

Link to Windows,² or Microsoft Phone Link, allows you to extend your Galaxy phone experience to your PC. By simply launching the Phone Link app on your Galaxy Book2 Pro series and visiting the Apps menu, you can send and receive messages — and even calls — right from your PC for more seamless working experiences.

Your Phone and Link to Windows also let you access smartphone apps on your PC, even if you don’t have the app installed on your laptop. You can launch up to five Android apps at once on your PC screen to extend the benefits of your Galaxy smartphone to your PC.

The new Recent Apps functionality on the Galaxy Book2 Pro series also allows you to access your most recently-used smartphone apps — all merely a click away from your Windows 11 taskbar.

Control Your Devices More Seamlessly With Multi Control

With Multi control,³ your inter-device experiences just got so much easier, as the feature lets you harness the keyboard and trackpad of your Galaxy Book2 Pro series for your Galaxy Tab S8 screen. Simply enable Multi control on both devices to be able to move your cursor freely between the two devices’ screens.

Before you get started, make sure you have the latest Quick Share app¹ installed on your Galaxy device. Once installed, open the app on the Galaxy Book2 Pro series and drag and drop the files you want to share. The Quick Share app automatically converts unsupported files into a format your friends can easily view, so you don’t have to worry about files not opening. When you’re ready to share, scan through a list of people nearby. Once you’ve selected your recipients, hit send. Quick Share will alert the recipient that you shared the files and let them download the files with just a tap.

Want to share files with people who are using non-Galaxy devices? Quick Share can also generate a QR code with a link² where even non-Galaxy users can access your shared files.

Share With Peace of Mind at Work and School

For times when you need to share sensitive files³ like work reports or school assignments, Private Share on the Galaxy Book2 Pro series provides advanced security based on blockchain technology.

Your data belongs to you, and Private Share helps keep it that way by encrypting your files and setting strict permissions on who can view or re-share them. Private Share lets you share 20 files, totaling 100MB, with five people at a time. Send text files, photos, videos and even PDFs all with peace of mind.

To get started, open the Private Share app and carefully look over the required permissions before choosing the files you want to share. Once you’ve chosen the files, you can decide who gets access, what they can do with your files, and how long they can access them for. You can even revoke access to the files after you’ve shared them if you change your mind or decide the person no longer needs access. Private Share will then encrypt your files before you send them, so you don’t have to worry about third parties gaining access. Advanced security measures in Private Share also protect your files from being saved, screen captured or re-shared by the recipient.

As the sender, you can keep track of when your files were opened, how many days are left for access, and their expiration date.

• Now, Quick Share¹⁸ can be used to send large files with the new Link Sharing option, which generates an easily shareable link that recipients can access to quickly share content from PC to other devices.

Users can enjoy a range of high-quality background images from 10 different categories of Dynamic Wallpaper that are exclusive to this feature. The 10 years that have passed since the debut of the S Pen have been filled with countless innovations and challenges. Identity: How the S Pen has Taken on Real Pen-Like Qualities

The S Pen is designed to provide the experience of writing with a real pen. Since its debut with the first Galaxy Note device in 2011, the S Pen has continued to provide improved pressure sensitivity from 256, 1024, and 2048 levels to a remarkable 4096 sensitivity level. Pressure sensitivity determines how much you can vary the width of the lines you draw with your S Pen; the higher it is, the more precisely the stylus will respond to your control. The S Pen’s high pressure sensitivity allows you to control the stroke weight of your stylus as you apply varying amounts of pressure to your screen, and the diameter of the S Pen’s tip has also been reduced over the years from 1.6mm to 0.7mm so as to allow for delicate strokes when drawing.

When it comes to notetaking, every user has their own habits, be it using a specific highlighter to mark important passages in a text or preferring a slim pen tip for writing. The S Pen, which initially provided four pen types – Pen, Pencil, Brush and Highlighter – today offers a wide variety of pen options, including Calligraphy and Fountain pen options. The true-to-life S Pen experience even comes with a different writing sound for each pen option you choose, and the sound effect of a pen cap closing when the S Pen is re-inserted into the device provides a satisfying, realistic feel, too. Furthermore, the eye-dropper tool, which makes it easy to lift colors from within a Note, has also been added for easy pen color customization.

As the S Pen continued to evolve, a built-in battery was added for optimized usage and user convenience. Users need simply plug their S Pen back into their device to automatically charge it; Galaxy Note20 users can enjoy a fully charged S Pen in just 7 minutes, with a standby time of 24 hours.¹

Further to these innovations, it is the S Pen’s response time that truly grants it that life-like writing experience. In one of Samsung’s latest mobile devices, the S Pen features AI technologies that bolster the pen’s acceleration and gyro sensors in order to predict pen movement and improve accuracy, resulting in a response time that is 80% faster than the previous model. Combined with a 120Hz display, this faster S Pen provides a remarkably smooth user experience.

Performance: Evolving from a Simple Stylus to a Pen

The development of an S Pen that came in a range of color options came about to satisfy those users looking to showcase their personality through their devices. Each color option even matched the corresponding device’s S Pen slot. One such highlight saw a clear ocean-blue device paired with a vivid yellow S Pen, with the corresponding packaging summarizing the evolution of the S Pen so far by featuring the stylus on the front of its box to establish that the S Pen truly is the key identifier of Samsung’s smartphone products.

In order to provide users with the most lifelike pen experience possible, Samsung has been working with a range of pen makers in order to provide different types of S Pen. One result of these efforts is the Lamy Safari Stylus S Pen, a hybrid between the classic S Pen and the world-famous fountain pen brand’s signature product that featured a thinner nib for more precise writing experiences. Another unique S Pen product came about through a collaboration with South Korea’s national ballpoint brand, Monami. This S Pen featured several features bespoke to a Monami pen, including a nib that could be safely stored when not in use. Such collaborations provide users with unique color and design preferences more choice when it comes to customizing their own S Pen experiences.

Ecosystem: Diversifying the S Pen’s Canvas Options

These days, you can enjoy the versatility of the S Pen on larger screens such as tablets and laptops as well as on your smartphone. Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A and S series include an S Pen, as does the Galaxy Book, allowing users to take advantage of their S Pen on increasingly larger canvases. The S Pen models included with Samsung’s tablets and laptops have been developed differently to those developed for smartphones, featuring a rounded, unibody design and a glossy finish.

Users of Galaxy Tab S6 and S7 devices can easily store their S Pen on the side and back (respectively) of their tablets thanks to their magnetic storage feature, making it easier to keep track of your S Pen and also providing a simple way for you to charge your S Pen.

Given that aesthetic and functionality considerations are both important factors in product design, the designers of Galaxy Book Series undertook extensive deliberation in order to maximize each device’s advantages while eliminating all unnecessary elements so as to focus on each product’s core offering. Samsung Newsroom sat down with designers from Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Communications Business to hear more about the development process behind designing the Galaxy Book Series.

Ultra-Light, Ultra-Solid and Ultra-Innovative

The design concept behind the Galaxy Book Flex and the Galaxy Book Ion is one of solidity, a concept executed through the devices’ shape and sturdy design that brings out the functionality that is at the core of the two devices. The Book Flex and Book Ion’s designs mark a bold transformation from existing curved designs, with this new look being characterized by a straight rectangular shape, unified material choices and compact detailing.

However, given that the Galaxy Book Flex features a display equipped with a 360-degree hinge, realizing this sturdy and compact design aesthetic was not an easy feat. In order to preserve the device’s design and ensure the smooth rotation of the screen, the collision of connecting surfaces had to be avoided by the design team, who also had to come up with a way to minimize the gaps between surfaces.

“A device that features a rotating screen as well as straight rectangular sides makes for a conflicting design concept,” explained Dongseok Lee, the designer of the Galaxy Book Flex. “There were numerous areas we had to innovate in in order to realize its design. We shortened the diameter of the 360-degree hinge to minimize any interference with other surfaces on the device and managed to ensure a high-quality user experience by halving the gap between the connecting sides of the screen and the laptop body.”

A great deal of effort also went in to realizing the design aesthetic of the Galaxy Book Ion. The majority of the device is built with magnesium to ensure both lightness and solidity. “Compared to aluminum, the main material used for the Galaxy Book Flex, magnesium is much lighter but still has the same sense of solidness, meaning that the Galaxy Book Ion weighs only 970g¹,” noted Hoyoung Seoc, the designer of the Galaxy Book Ion. “We fashioned the body of the device with magnesium, and then applied oxide coating to enhance its solidity and finished it with pearl paint, which shifts color under different lighting angles to provide an aura effect.

In order to further provide users with a singular laptop experience, the designers applied an unusual royal blue shade to the device. “We reinterpreted the signature blue color of Samsung into a color with high chroma in order to capture the attention of younger, more trend-conscious consumers,” noted product planner WonJoon Shin. “Royal blue was a color favored by the royal families of Europe, so we chose this color also to provide our users with a sense of regality.”

“We also applied this blue shade to the hinge of the Galaxy Book Ion,” added Seoc. “Nano films with different reflectivity patterns on the device, too, mean that it shines with a diverse range of colors.”

A Design that Integrates Into Everyday Life

Galaxy Book S Earthy Gold

The Galaxy Book S is a new type of computing device that integrates the advantages of both mobile devices and PCs. “Since the Galaxy Book S provides users with internet connectivity even without Wi-Fi, our main task was to create a design that would blend seamlessly into users’ day-to-day lives,” said Haesung Park, one of the designers of the Galaxy Book S. This led to the selection of earthy gold and mercury gray hues for the device’s main colors.

“We carefully combined pigments to generate shades that would blend well with surrounding environments, whether it be a café, a park bench or an airport lounge,” explained Park. “Depending on the environment where the laptop is being used, the perception of colors can change; earthy gold can also look either pink or brown depending on the tone and color of users’ surrounding, for example. We anticipate users will enjoy using the laptop for a long time and look forward to seeing how the market responds to the Galaxy Book S’s timeless aesthetic.”

Another key feature of Galaxy Book S is its impressive compactness. In order to highlight its portability, all the edges of the Galaxy Book S are carefully fabricated to give the device a thin and light look. “We visited the factory along with the developer of the Galaxy Book S and had many discussions around how to successfully manufacture the product to the highest possible quality,” noted Park. “We even ended up extending our stay to change the original manufacturing process in order to ensure the high-level design quality we stand for.”

Designing a User-Oriented Laptop

“As more and more people are transporting their digital devices with them whilst working, personal laptops have become more than just IT devices,” said Seoc. “They have found their way into our daily lives as a personal item.”

The important role laptops now play led the design team to put in every effort to ensure the Galaxy Book Series offers utmost user convenience. Both the Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion are equipped with a lattice keyboard, a keyboard that is 10% wider than those seen on conventional laptops, to enhance typing accuracy. Furthermore, the Galaxy Book Ion has been designed with a slight lift to the underside of the device when opened at a certain angle so that users can use the keyboard with more stability. “In the case of the Galaxy Book Ion, the hinge features an empty space below it in order to promote better airflow around the device,” explained Shin.

Despite their considerable journey to completing the latest Galaxy PC devices, the designers are already looking ahead to designing the next Galaxy Book Series. “The development of any product is completed by the user,” affirmed Lee. “Our goal is always to provide a flawless quality and user experience to our users as well to provide innovative technologies that can help them be as productive as possible.”

In an environment in which laptops must continually overcome their limitations to meet new sets of needs, the Galaxy Book S, Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion are delivering high-level battery performance to ensure that they are able to meet users’ needs. The batteries in the Galaxy Book series feature best-in-class specifications that improve the usability and portability of the laptops and allow them to charge faster and be used for longer.

Newsroom sat down with the developers responsible for Samsung’s battery research to hear how they went about producing a lightweight laptop that features long enough battery power.

The Slim-Down Secret – High-Density Energy Packed Into a Battery

A battery’s capacity is generally proportional to its physical size – the bigger the battery, the longer you can use the laptop. However, as laptops must offer maximized portability, their batteries cannot be allowed to become overlarge or cumbersome. Thus, the developers at Samsung came up with a solution called ‘high energy density cells’, which allow the largest possible amount of energy to be stored in a limited space. Whereas the energy efficiency of conventional batteries sits at around 650Wh/L, the new battery cells in the Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion boast energy efficiency of around 700Wh/L.

Commenting on the development of the specialized battery packs, engineer Sunghoon Kim said, “We undertook several tests to find the perfect balance between weight, size and battery efficiency. With the new batteries, users can use the Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion for up to 20 hours and 22 hours, respectively.”¹

Another important factor in battery efficiency is charging speed, which becomes especially important when users are about to go out and find themselves low on battery. To prevent users from being inconvenienced in this way, the developers designed a quick charging algorithm and a large-capacity 65W adaptor that allows the usual charging time of 120 minutes for a 100% charge to be shortened to 90 minutes.

For charging versatility, the ‘easy charging’ feature also allows users to use a smartphone charger and supplementary battery when they need a charge urgently. Engineer Jehwan Lee said “With smartphone chargers being unified with USB-C® functionality across the board, we were able to implement easy charging in the Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion. We tested the easy charging function with a wide range of different supplementary batteries, and ensured that it would facilitate quick and convenient charging when users need it.”

Get More Out of Your Laptop With Long-life Algorithm

According to a Samsung internal customer trend survey, users expect their laptops to have an average lifetime of around four years. As a laptop’s battery is a consumable component that gets worn down quickly, extending battery life is key to increasing the overall lifetime of the laptop.

Samsung’s long-life algorithm has contributed to after-use battery capacities being effectively doubled, with the batteries in the Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion now able to retain roughly 80% of their original capacity after charging and discharging 1,000 times. Engineer Jehwan Lee, who was responsible for designing the batteries’ power circuits, explained that “When a battery is aging, it sustains added stress and deterioration even if the tasks it is performing remain unchanged. By monitoring the battery’s status and making adjustments to the charging voltage and current flow when the number of charging cycles is increased, the long-life algorithm contributes to delaying battery deterioration.”

Lee also explained that, “Your laptop’s battery may wear down faster if you keep it constantly connected to the charger. If you keep your laptop plugged in all the time, we recommend activating the ‘Battery Life Extender +’ feature, which prevents the battery from being charged above 85% of its capacity.”

Realizing Wireless PowerShare in a Laptop

A unique feature of Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion is that they include the Wireless PowerShare feature. Smartphones, wearable devices, wireless earphones and other Qi-compatible devices can all be charged wirelessly when they are placed on the laptop’s touchpad, removing the need for users to carry multiple chargers with them. Hyemi Sung, who was responsible for product planning for the Galaxy Book series, said, “As this is the first laptop series to feature ‘Galaxy’ in its name, we wanted to incorporate a function that would prove useful for users who use multiple Galaxy devices in their day-to-day lives.”

However, incorporating such a feature did not prove straightforward for the developers. Beneath their touchpads, laptops feature a mesh-structured circuit board that detects touch motions, and this aspect of the hardware design obstructed the developers’ ability to incorporate wireless charging into the laptops. Engineer Jehwan Lee explained, “We needed to expand the fine mesh structure in order to improve the efficiency of the wireless charging feature, but doing so decreased the touch accuracy of the touchpad. Following extensive testing done in partnership with the touchpad division, we were eventually able to achieve a balance that maintains functionality in both areas simultaneously.”

Producing a Safer Battery

Adding convenience often causes other problems to arise, and chief among them in the case of the Galaxy Book series was that of heat. A battery that receives larger quantities of power more quickly will naturally heat up faster, thus requiring the Galaxy Book developers to come up with measures to prevent overheating.

The batteries in the newly released Galaxy Book laptops consist of four cells, all of which are installed with double and triple protection to prevent the spread of heat. Engineer Jehwan Lee explained that, “A temperature sensor located near the charging circuit monitors heat levels, while the system further prevents overheating by alternating between quick charging when the power is off and normal charging when the power is on.”

Engineer Sunghoon Kim explained that “Safety is the most important factor when it comes to developing batteries. All the batteries developed by the Mobile Division undergo an 8-point safety check² and are designed to remain safe in a wide range of thermal stress environments.”

The battery is an enormously important component when it comes to portable electronic devices. Speaking to this, engineer Jehwan Lee remarked that, “As people expect to be able to use their electronic devices for extended periods of time these days, we’re giving our brand an edge by providing devices with extended battery life.”

Finally, engineer Sunghoon Kim shed some light on the team’s plans for the future, saying that, “Whereas the performance of many contemporary laptop batteries will start to decline after around 1,000 charges, we’d like to develop a battery that maintains performance after 3,000 charges.”

Cisco

Samsung and Cisco are working together to enable an intelligent and unified experience of Webex solutions across Samsung mobile devices.

This alliance was founded with the goal to make it easier for personal and business users to collaborate with each other. Together, Cisco and Samsung created the best Wi-Fi 6 experience. Through joint engineering efforts and field trials, we developed technology optimized for app developers and mobile users. Q&A with Principal Gail Doney of Wallarano Primary School, Victoria, Australia sheds light on equality issues in access to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education
and how help from the private sector can help.

Educational inequality is an issue many communities struggle with. While the symptoms are usually the result of a number of factors, students with less access to education are less likely to develop skills that will be critical in the future workforce.

To help address this issue, Samsung Electronics Australia and Social Ventures Australia (SVA) have expanded the Bright Spots Schools Connection initiative to include the STEM Learning Hub – an initiative that brings STEM expertise and support to schools in communities across Australia where resources are most needed.

Wallarano Primary School, a large multicultural school situated in Victoria, is one of 48 schools that are part of SVA’s Bright Spots Schools Connection. Wallarano is unique in that it services a culturally rich community of 689 students from over 40 different nations. Among these students, 69% are from a non-English speaking background. Over the last year, teachers and students from Wallarano have been exploring Samsung technology in the classroom.

Samsung Newsroom asked Wallarano’s Principal Gail Doney how she has personally seen the teachers and students benefit as a result of being part of the STEM Learning Hub:

Q. Why do you think programs like the STEM Learning Hub and partnerships like the Samsung/SVA collaboration are so important to the advancement of education?

Education and the private sector need to work together in this time of rapid change. Schools must stay in tune with the future skills and capabilities that young people will need to be successful in the future. Working with Samsung has provided many advantages for our school, particularly by exposing our students to the latest classroom technologies. Our involvement in the STEM Learning Hub has also connected us with like-minded professionals to share different views and perspectives on how to best implement STEM.

Q. Do you think the learning outcomes and experiences of your students have improved as a result of being involved in the STEM Learning Hub?

Most certainly – in fact, our 2017 NAPLAN results showed that 39% students had made a relative gain in Numeracy and over a quarter of our students in Grade 3 (29.4%) and Grade 5 (27.2%) were in the top two bands.

When assessed on the Victorian Curriculum in June this year Wallarano students showed improvements across all areas of learning:

• Digital Technologies 96% at or above the expected level with 32% of student 1 year ahead of the expected level (compared to 94% at or above in 2017 with only 9.8% of students 1 year ahead of the expected level)
• Numeracy 85% at or above expected level (compared to 66.5% in 2017)
• Measurement and Geometry 88% at or above the expected level (compared to 75.3%% in 2017)
• Statistics and probability 92% at or above the expected level (compared to 66% in 2017)
• Science Understanding 93% at or above expected level (compared to 88.5% in 2017)
• Science Inquiry 92% at or above expected level (compared to 88.5% in 2017)

Last year, two Grade 3 girls won 1^st place in Australia in the Wonder League Robotics Competition for their age group which was a highlight for all of us at Wallarano.

What has been most rewarding for us is that the children themselves are telling us that they are more engaged. 88% of students indicated in a school survey that the Digital Sandpit was their favorite school activity.

Q. Prior to being involved in the STEM Learning Hub, what challenges did you face as a teacher?

As teachers, we faced big questions like – What is STEM? What technologies do we need? What is the best way to introduce and implement STEM to ensure a high-quality program at all levels in the primary school setting.

Being involved in the STEM Learning Hub has really helped us to answer these questions by understanding how specific technologies can enrich the learning experience not only for students, but also for teachers.

Q. Why do you think technology is such an important part of learning development and educational experiences?

Technology is embedded in all areas of society and children must know how they work and why, not just how to use them. Students need to have knowledge, skills and capabilities in STEM and design thinking to enable them to enter professions relevant to the modern world – so it is imperative we are setting them up for future success.

Q. How have you been incorporating Samsung technology and other technologies in the classroom?

We extensively use the Galaxy Books, the 360 cameras and Samsung phones for Virtual Reality experiences in the classroom. We run a weekly session called the Digital Sandpit where staff and students can play, experiment and give each other small challenges with Samsung technology and equipment such as 3D printers, Laser Cutters and Robotics. Meanwhile, we are also beginning to use the 360 cameras to give teachers visual references of their practice which we then use to give constructive feedback.

The booth features three sections – an Atelier, Gym, and Workplace – that allow visitors to get their hands on products including Samsung’s newest wearables, the Gear Sport, Gear Fit2 Pro, and the updated Gear IconX, as well as its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note8. Fun and interactive exhibits showcase how the devices’ premium functions, seamless connectivity and intuitive designs introduce new aspects of convenience that become normal to users as soon as they experience them.

Samsung’s latest mobile offerings may be found at the center of the company’s IFA 2017 booth.

The new Galaxy Note8 features an immersive, 6.3-inch Infinity Display, an enhanced S Pen, and a best-in-class dual camera with Optical Image Stabilization.

An interactive display in the booth’s Atelier offers a breakdown of the Galaxy Note8’s advanced features.

A large display exhibits a ‘digital gallery’ of selfies that attendees have snapped with the Galaxy Note8 and decorated with fun stickers and animated text using the device’s S Pen.

IFA attendees put the Galaxy Note8’s IP68 water and dust resistance to the test by snapping selfies and dunking the device at the Portrait Pool.

The Galaxy Note8 boasts a wide array of compatible accessories, including various covers, wireless chargers and external batteries.

Attendees get hands-on with the new Gear Sport smartwatch, which features a sleek and versatile design, including a wide range of band options, and premium health- and fitness-management functions.

Samsung’s Gear Fit2 Pro, a water-resistant GPS fitness band, has been enhanced through partnerships with Under Armour and Spotify, and comes preloaded with Speedo’s best-in-class swim-tracking app, Speedo On.

Samsung’s update of its cord-free Gear IconX earbuds, which allow users to stream music from their phone and also function as a standalone music player, features improved battery life and a new integrated Running Coach with a voice guide that offers real-time updates on workout progress.

The Gear Sport’s dedicated fitness zone invites attendees to test out the smartwatch’s exercise-tracking functions properly: by strapping it on to take part in fun cycling and rowing competitions.

The booth’s Workplace section showcases various ways that enterprises can utilize Samsung’s latest mobile innovations, including the Galaxy Note8 and Galaxy Book, to streamline how they do business.

Launched last year and preloaded on Samsung’s newly unveiled Galaxy Book and Galaxy Tab S3 tablets, Samsung Flow is an app that allows users to synchronize their tablet with their smartphone in convenient, productivity-boosting ways. The app’s latest update, slated for release in April, expands its compatibility to include even more devices, allowing more users to simplify their always-connected lifestyles.

More Convenient Connections

Samsung Flow allows users to seamlessly manage data and messages between their Galaxy smartphone and tablet, helping them enjoy new levels of convenience and mobility.

When the devices are synchronized, users may unlock their tablet using their phone’s fingerprint sensor, manage smartphone notifications directly from their tablet, start a browsing session on one device and easily continue on the other, effortlessly transfer content between the two devices, and automatically connect their tablet to their phone’s mobile hotspot.

The app’s upcoming update will expand its compatibility from Galaxy S6 and newer devices to all Galaxy smartphones*. In addition, with the update, Samsung Flow will function on all Galaxy and Windows 10 tablets and PCs.

Simple Setup and Sign-Ins

Pairing devices is easy. Simply download the Samsung Flow app from the Google Play or Galaxy Apps store, activate Samsung Flow on both devices, and follow the application’s on-screen instructions.

After the devices have been successfully paired, users are asked to register a PIN and scan their fingerprint with their smartphone. This simple and secure layer of biometric authentication allows users to unlock and access both synchronized devices at once, helping them streamline how they manage the technology they rely on throughout their day.

Easy Alerts and Data Transfers

Samsung Flow also supports simple syncing of notifications between connected smartphones and tablets, alerting you of any missed calls and allowing you to comfortably manage messages from either device.

When working on your tablet, with Samsung Flow, you’ll be notified instantly of all incoming messages and will be able to type a quick response directly onto the device. No stopping to fumble for your phone, and no wasting time.

Speaking of saving time, Samsung Flow also supports speedy and reliable data transfers via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Users can share photos, videos and hefty documents cord and hassle free, and pause and continue browsing sessions on whichever device is more convenient. Attendees were welcomed by David Lowes, Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President of Samsung Electronics Europe, who began by discussing Samsung’s drive to push the limits of innovation. To illustrate the company’s extensive efforts, Mr. Lowes welcomed Tim Baxter, President and COO of Samsung Electronics America, to the stage, who announced Samsung’s launch of a commercial 5G network portfolio as well as its plan to provide the world’s first 5G fixed wireless networks, offering blazing fast gigabit home broadband, by early next year.

Mr. Baxter was then joined by Verizon’s Executive Vice President and Chief Information Technology Architect, Roger Gurnani, who spoke on his company’s collaboration with Samsung to begin the first customer trials of 5G technology.

Later, Mark Notton, Samsung Electronics Europe’s Head of Portfolio Strategy, took to the stage to discuss the first of the company’s new tablet offerings: the Galaxy Tab S3. Describing the device as “a beautiful piece of craftsmanship that’s also powerful, fast and versatile,” Mr. Notton illuminated how the tablet’s advanced entertainment and gaming features and refined S Pen, which embodies a creative heritage dating back to Samsung’s popular Note line, help users have more fun.

Afterward, Alanna Cotton, Vice President of Samsung Electronics America, revealed the other new addition to Samsung’s tablet lineup: the Galaxy Book. After unveiling the device, Ms. Cotton outlined how Samsung optimized the 2-in-1 tablet with a lightweight and sturdy design, fast-charging battery, speedy, seventh-generation Intel® Core processor and Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system to offer users the most powerful and productive experience possible. As she told the crowd, “We’re giving users not just a perfect balance between a tablet and a laptop, but a device that can do everything their high-powered PC does.”

Before inviting attendees to test out the new tablets for themselves, Samsung took a moment to announce the launch of a new, motion-sensing Bluetooth controller for the Gear VR headset, designed to help users navigate and immerse themselves in virtual reality content, and also shared an exclusive sneak peek at another Galaxy innovation soon to make its own highly anticipated debut.

After showing a brief video offering a taste of its next flagship smartphone, Samsung distributed invitations to attend a Galaxy Unpacked event on March 29.

Optimized for Efficiency

The Galaxy Book is available in 10.6- and 12-inch variations and features a premium, full-metal design that’s thin and lightweight. This makes the device highly portable, and equally suitable for getting work done in the boardroom and on the road.

Available in black or white, the included keyboard cover is a delight to work with, and comes complete with a large touchpad that offers plenty of room to comfortably maneuver through files or tabs. The curved, island-style keys are well spaced to reduce typos, and feature an adjustable backlight* to allow users working late to burn the midnight oil comfortably.

Furthermore, the cover’s ability to prop up the screen at various angles makes it easy to set the Galaxy Book down and get to work anywhere. Each of the three orientation modes – ‘PC’, ‘Easel’ and ‘Note’ – was designed to deliver optimal comfort and usability.

PC-Level Performance

Both Galaxy Book editions are powered by seventh-generation Intel® Core processors that provide premium, PC-level performance. The 10.6-inch edition comes equipped with 4GB of RAM and a choice of 64GB or 128GB of storage, while the 12-inch model is available in a choice of either 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, or a generous 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage capacity. Both models allow users to add additional storage via microSD card.

In addition, the 12-inch Galaxy Book’s vibrant Super AMOLED display and the 10.6-inch edition’s TFT screen both support 4K video playback and provide ample room to scan documents on the go or binge a favorite TV show. Their long-lasting batteries charge fast, providing up to 10 hours of power for the 10.6-inch model and up to 10.5 hours for the 12-inch, giving users more freedom to be productive and enjoy their content uninterrupted.

Handy S Pen Integration

One of the Galaxy Book’s most efficient and fun features is its new, multifunctional S Pen, which helps users adopt a more convenient and hands-on approach to their work.

Samsung’s S Pens offer a best-in-class digital writing experience that allows users to enjoy greater productivity and exercise their creativity. The Galaxy Book’s S Pen is the most accurate yet, facilitating precise notes and detailed drawings thanks to its fine, 0.7mm tip, industry-leading sensitivity – recognizing 4,096 levels of pressure – and ability to vary the thickness of its strokes depending on the angle at which it’s tilted. Moreover, the S Pen does not require a battery to function.

The Galaxy Book also features support for the S Pen’s PDF Annotation function, to help users get more work done on the go, and Adobe Photoshop, to allow creative professionals to enjoy the device’s advanced mobile productivity as well. The S Pen’s stroke-width adjusting ‘Tilt’ function is particularly handy when fine-tuning images with the professional software, making it easier for users to enhance depth and detail.

Other handy S Pen tools include Samsung Notes, which consolidates the S Pen’s notetaking, drawing and image-management capabilities in one simple application, as well as Air Command functions such as Smart Select, which now lets users create, save and share their own animated GIFs.

Streamlined Security and Connectivity

Both Galaxy Book models are additionally available in LTE-compatible versions, to cater to always-connected lifestyles, and may be easily integrated into a user’s personal device ecosystem via Samsung Flow. This versatile app allows users to easily sync content and alerts between their Galaxy smartphone and tablet, and even lets them set up secure hotspots and unlock their tablet via their smartphone’s fingerprint sensor.

Transfers between the connected devices are seamless, and enable users to stay up to date without sacrificing data security or efficiency. This means that with Samsung Flow, a user editing a file on the Galaxy Book will receive notifications from their smartphone directly on their tablet and will be able to quickly reply using the Galaxy Book’s keyboard, without missing a beat.

Combining powerful, PC-level performance with the signature convenience of the S Pen, Samsung’s Galaxy Book 2-in-1 device is less of a tablet and more of a highly portable personal computer.

Samsung Electronics today announced the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 and the Samsung Galaxy Book, stylishly designed tablets with advanced computing technology offering a premium mobile experience.
