This peace of mind is important when navigating our hyperconnected age as cyber threats become more common than you think and are often undetectable until too late. The global cost of cybercrime is expected to surge in the next four years, rising from $9.22 trillion in 2024 to $13.82 trillion by 2028.² Therefore, it is critical to use a device that benefits from an ecosystem of protective measures — such as security updates.

But where do these updates come from, and why do they pop up on your phone so regularly? Deep at the heart of Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business lies Samsung Project Infinity, a classified operation. Samsung Newsroom met the specialist units within Samsung Project Infinity who safeguard Galaxy devices and users around the clock.

Deep Diving for Unknown Dangers

The Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) taskforce is a reconnaissance unit within Samsung Project Infinity along with the Red (RED), Blue (BLUE) and Purple (PURPLE) Teams that go beyond lab conditions to identify real-world dangers. RED and BLUE perform proactive attack and defense functions, seeking out vulnerabilities and taking measures against them. PURPLE is a special operations unit that acts as both a sword and shield for specific critical areas. These teams are strategically deployed in various countries all over the world including Vietnam, Poland, Ukraine and Brazil.

They work covertly. The only time you’ll ever feel their presence is when you get an update containing a security patch.

CTI is dedicated to identifying potential threats and stopping hackers from taking control of your device by staying on top of the latest risks. They work to prevent malicious actions, address threats involving the trade of stolen information and ensure your smartphone or tablet stays securely under your control.

The taskforce protects Galaxy’s internal infrastructure — safeguarding customer data and employee information such as access credentials — since any confidential information stolen by a hacker could be sold or abused for further attacks.

To identify potential threats and deploy countermeasures, CTI regularly explores the Deep Web and the Dark Web — bustling markets for security exploits, spyware, malware, ransomware, illicit tools and confidential corporate and customer information.

Justin Choi, Vice President and Head of the Security Team, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, leads CTI. With over 20 years of experience in the U.S. tech industry as a cybersecurity authority and ethical hacker, Choi has collaborated globally to fortify security for major financial and tech firms. His expertise in identifying and mitigating zero-day threats drives the development of advanced security measures that protect over a billion Galaxy users around the world.

“Occasionally, we engage in security research by simulating real-world transactions,” said Choi. “We closely monitor forums and marketplaces for mentions of zero-day or N-day exploits targeting Galaxy devices, as well as any leaked intelligence that could potentially serve as an entry point for system infiltration.”

As an ethical or “white hat” hacker — whose deep understanding of hacking helps to identify and address vulnerabilities — Choi explained that any hint of suspicious behavior within the system is swiftly traced to its origin.

For example, request for excessive privileges, unexpected behavior, and network traffic with unknown servers could point to a potential breach, at which point CTI traces Indicators of Compromise to identify the threat actors and the purpose of the attacks.

“Once we spot these kinds of threats, we collaborate with developers and operators to lock everything down for preventing attacks,” said Ranger, a CTI member. (Samsung Project Infinity staff protect their identities with aliases to avoid being personally targeted by hackers.) “We even communicate with other departments and partners on private channels to avoid taking any chances.”

CTI also studies threat actors to decipher their behavioral patterns. Understanding their motivations and objectives can help reveal their attack methods and provide insights for fortification.

“Sometimes, an attack is financially or politically motivated,” added Tower, another CTI member. “Sometimes, they just like to show off.”

Eliminating Threats Before They Become Real

While real-time threat detection is crucial, a robust offensive security policy is equally vital. RED and BLUE are inspired by military practices in which a red team simulates enemy attacks and a blue team creates defenses to ensure safety in the face of ever-changing threats. In Samsung’s approach, RED simulates hacker attacks and designs new attack scenarios to identify potential vulnerabilities, whereas BLUE develops and implements patches to protect against them.

Specializing in combating zero-day attacks, the teams address vulnerabilities before they can be exploited to prevent unauthorized access or data breaches. One notable data breach is the Pegasus incident in 2020 that left an operating system vulnerable.

The RED taskforce initiates their project by investigating Galaxy devices. They continuously use and analyze new features in Galaxy and delve into recently disclosed vulnerabilities, while envisioning potential security threats against users. By conducting diverse research, once they select a target that presents any potential risks to actual Galaxy users, the RED taskforce begins their quest to detect 0-day vulnerabilities in the target.

“One thing we do is fuzzing,” said Arrowhead, a RED member. “That throws all kinds of unexpected data at software to uncover any hidden flaws.”

Other methods such as code auditing as well as static and dynamic analyses help develop a comprehensive understanding of a system’s health and safety. The team contextualizes each threat in everyday scenarios to prevent threats to Galaxy devices.

“It’s not so urgent if there’s a flaw with the alarm clock, but a glitch in location data could lead to somebody being unknowingly followed through their device,” added Gate, a BLUE member. “Once we discover a hypothetical weakness, we hurry to patch it and roll out an update to the relevant models.”

The Specialists Among Specialists

PURPLE acts as both aggressor and protector to ensure the security of critical areas, the key features of Galaxy devices. As the name suggests, PURPLE combines elements of RED and BLUE’s skillsets — however, an extra in-depth knowledge of the security measures built into the mobile devices sets this team apart.

“Samsung collaborates with external security researchers to uncover vulnerabilities, but our own intimate knowledge of Galaxy systems allows for more effective targeting of potential weak spots,” said Sphinx, a PURPLE member.

“The better you know a system, the better you can protect it,” added Oracle, another PURPLE member.

Occasionally, PURPLE is called upon to address issues nobody else can including formulating new security requirements, designs and features. Though, it isn’t just about keeping Galaxy devices and the Samsung Knox security platform in good shape. Samsung also advises and proposes solutions to chipset and network vendors depending on their requirements.

Samsung’s position as a hardware leader means the company can not only scale its security innovations but also cover its secure supply chain. In this way, Galaxy is contributing to the security of next generation of chips.

Perhaps surprisingly, the motivation behind this work sometimes has nothing to do with technology. PURPLE members perform with a sense of duty to keep people safe, and they feel a certain pride and satisfaction in finding and addressing vulnerabilities.

“It’s not just me but also my family and friends who use Galaxy,” continued Oracle. “So, let’s make it safe!”

The bar for entry is high, and technical skills alone are not enough. To join the team, one must also demonstrate strength of character since any vulnerabilities discovered by the team could be very profitable in the wrong hands.

“They must be tenacious and moral,” said Choi. “One must be responsible and put users before their personal interests.”

“Being an early adopter and a big reader of tech trends is also useful,” added Sphinx.

A System of Safeguards

CTI, RED, BLUE and PURPLE are critical components of Galaxy’s security strategy — but Samsung Project Infinity juggles many initiatives including the Samsung Mobile Security Rewards Program which works with the wider security community to further scrutinize Galaxy’s defenses.

This year, Samsung has boosted this program with a maximum reward amount of $1 million — its highest cash incentive yet for those who are able to identify the most severe attack scenarios within Galaxy devices.

“It’s crucial to encourage participation from the security community in identifying potential vulnerabilities,” said Choi. “Especially in a world where cyberattacks are increasingly intelligent and disruptive.”

All of this goes hand in hand with Samsung’s longstanding model of collaboration with hundreds of partners including carriers, service providers, chipset vendors and more. While regularly working with these partners as well as the wider community to identify threats and develop patches, Samsung Project Infinity ensures Samsung proactively takes initiative and responsibility for reinforcing its own areas of weakness.

“Just because we have internal specialists, this doesn’t mean we don’t work with others,” added Choi. “Having more eyes gives us a better chance at spotting any vulnerabilities and helps us keep users safe.”

The event will feature popular streamers and e-sports pros such as Ludwig Anders Ahgren (Ludwig) and Tyler Polchow (TeeP) competing in a PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) Mobile tournament. Participants will be split into teams using either touchscreen or mouse and keyboard controls, all playing exclusively on the Galaxy S24 Ultra – a device specially optimized for a smooth, high-performance mobile gaming experience. The competition will be livestreamed globally on Twitch via streamer and former pro gamer Jack Martin’s (NiceWigg) channel, with additional Twitch livestreams from each participant. In-person attendees of TwitchCon 2024 can also enjoy an exclusive, hands-on experience with Genshin Impact at Samsung’s event booth.

As one of the event’s main attractions, the #PlayGalaxy Cup will see 16 popular content creators and e-sports pros — split into four teams — go head-to-head in PUBG Mobile using Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones. In a unique twist, two of the teams will compete using the device’s intuitive touchscreen controls, while the other two teams will be armed with a keyboard and mouse setup connected to the phone. The team using PC controls stars includes popular streamers such as Bryce Hutchinson (HutchMF), Brittany Lynn Watts (Cinna) and Ludwig Anders Ahgren (Ludwig) competing alongside e-sports pro Tyler Polchow (TeeP). On the mobile team using touchscreen input, PUBG Mobile pro Zifan Wu (Xifan) is joined by fan-favorite content creators like Wynn Curtis (Wynsannity) and Bella Fox.

Unlock Unique Experiences at the Samsung Booth

Beyond the #PlayGalaxy Cup, TwitchCon San Diego 2024 attendees have the chance to explore a world of immersive gaming experiences at the Samsung Booth. Fans can try out an exclusive Genshin Impact APK and character booth or discover Samsung’s latest state-of-the-art gaming products and technology that help gamers across the globe level up their gaming setups.

Samsung implemented optimized software and technology to support filming and transmitting this first-of-its-kind footage in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and other Olympic partners.

Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones were installed on the boats used in the sailing events. For kitesurfing and windsurfing, Galaxy smartphones were attached to each athlete’s shoulder and buoys in the water. With this new viewing experience, sailing fans never missed a beat.

This presented a whole new set of challenges and months of research, development and testing — in close collaboration with the OBS and other Olympic tech partners — to guarantee video quality and connectivity performance across various bodies of water and weather conditions, which can be really windy with huge waves or extremely hot and sunny. Samsung and its partners addressed these challenges by leveraging the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Optical image stabilization (OIS) features, increasing transmission power and installing relay towers on chase boat to ensure a seamless livestream experience for viewers.

Auto Blocker

Auto Blocker is all about choice — providing an opt-in package of additional security measures so that you are completely in control to choose whether you want to explore the customizations enabled by Galaxy’s ecosystem. Auto Blocker will protect your Galaxy device and personal data by preventing app installations from unauthorized sources. The feature will also check for malware and other cybersecurity threats, immediately blocking any malicious activity that could come as a result.

One example of Auto Blocker in action is the prevention of what many people call sideloading, or downloading apps from unverified sources. There are numerous benefits to intentional sideloading, such as added customizations to your phone. But if you do not typically sideload, potential attacks that can come in the form of social engineering fraud like voice phishing — in which threat actors trick you over the phone and talk you into installing malicious software.

The extra level of protection that Auto Blocker provides also stops harmful commands from entering your physical USB port — which could come in handy when charging your phone through an outlet at a public space like an airport.

Turning on Auto Blocker is a quick and simple process that takes less than a minute. Open Settings, go to Security and Privacy, then tap Auto Blocker and select On.

Message Guard

Cybersecurity threats come in many forms, and each year they become even more sophisticated. One threat that is becoming increasingly common is the zero-click attack, which exploits vulnerabilities in your device software. This can take place any time an image is received and does not require any action whatsoever on the user’s part.

For instance, your phone receives an image and vibrates gently in your pocket or on your bedside table before going still. You haven’t touched your phone or facilitated any input, but someone may already be reading your messages, browsing your gallery or copying your bank details.

Samsung’s Message Guard will neutralize any potential threats that might be hiding in the image before it has a chance to do any harm by effectively trapping the file in an isolated space on your device. While the image is put into quarantine, Samsung Message Guard checks the file bit by bit — processing it in a controlled environment to prevent infection to the rest of your device.

Message Guard works with a range of popular messaging apps that you probably already use, from Google and Samsung apps to Messenger, Telegram and WhatsApp. You don’t need to worry about initiating the process either since Message Guard runs silently and effectively 24/7 in the background without needing to be activated in any way.

We are at the beginning of the most exciting and probably one of the most historic moments in technology. The era of mobile AI is here — which for Samsung opened up by the introduction of Galaxy AI features on the Galaxy S24 series, our first AI phone.

Revolutionizing Mobile Experiences With a Hybrid AI Approach

To bring the real-life benefits of generative AI technology to the Galaxy S24 series, we took a hybrid approach to our AI integration. AI offers so many possibilities, and we believe mobile devices are the primary access point for unlocking its potential as users around the globe continue to rely on their phones for most of their day-to-day needs.

The essential role that mobile devices play in everyday life means they are very personal items that people use during many critical and memorable moments. We understand these behaviors and believe smartphones should work harder so that users can truly make the most of important moments in a simpler, more intuitive and more epic way. We also recognize the importance of privacy which is why we give users full control over what they share and what they keep private.

We believe our hybrid approach is the most practical and reliable solution to meet all these needs and puts Samsung ahead of the curve. We are providing users with a balance between the instant responsiveness and extra privacy assurance of on-device AI and the versatility of cloud-based AI through open collaborations with industry-leading partners in offering a variety of functions they need for daily life.

Expanding Possibilities With On-Device AI

We made the Live Translate feature on-device AI based because voice calls are the most basic feature of a smartphone, yet also an intimate and private means of communication. Samsung has committed to empowering users to communicate without language barriers, while at the same time ensuring every communication is safe and private.

To make this feature a reality, our R&D team worked day and night as part of a collaborative process that truly brought out the best in our teams. From determining the right size of AI language models to training and testing in real-life scenarios, our R&D organizations within the MX business challenged themselves and pushed beyond the limits of what we thought was possible to get this feature running entirely on-device.

Samsung’s global R&D networks around the world, which are in charge of growing the best talents and developing core technologies in each region, have also played a pivotal role. Samsung Research Centers around the globe, including Poland, China, India and Vietnam, have dedicated themselves to developing and expanding the languages supported by Galaxy AI. Languages are very cultural, contemporary and localized, so to help people break down language barriers and communicate more naturally, the role of our local R&D offices is even more crucial in opening up new possibilities for users in more regions than ever before.

All these efforts have enabled Samsung to offer something completely new which I’m excited to share. Soon, Samsung is extending the power of Galaxy AI beyond Samsung’s own native calling app by expanding Live Translate to other third-party message apps to support voice calls. So you can stay in contact with friends or colleagues, communicating on your favorite apps in multiple languages.

And since this feature has been integrated into our on-device AI language translation model, users will be able to experience barrier-free communication without worrying about privacy issues like personal data being shared outside their phone when using Live Translate.

I expect that more and more mobile AI features will be incorporated inside mobile devices as the intelligent computing power of the latest chips — particularly NPUs — advances at a blazing fast speed, along with other technologies. This will enable more people to embrace AI and make every day more convenient while offering greater peace of mind.

Growing Galaxy AI for Tomorrow’s Needs, Today

This exciting news is all part of the extension of our commitment to Galaxy AI and entering the next phase of the mobile AI era. The introduction of Galaxy AI on the Galaxy S24 series was only the start. To deliver a completely new and unique AI experience, we will further optimize the Galaxy AI experience for the upcoming foldable devices. Our foldables are the most versatile and flexible form factor in Samsung Galaxy and when combined with Galaxy AI, these two complementary technologies will together unlock all new possibilities.

Samsung Research combined data and cutting-edge technology. Together with the Mobile eXperience (MX) Business R&D Office, they further honed this technology to develop the translation features powered by on-device AI — which can be used for real-time translation during calls and across various applications. Samsung Newsroom met with Yoonjung Choi and Yonghyun Ryu from Samsung Research’s Global AI Center to learn more about these ambitious features.

Smooth Communication and Strong Security With On-Device AI

On-device AI is the key differentiator to Galaxy AI’s Interpreter and Live Translate features — introduced to users through the release of the Galaxy S24 series earlier this year. Leveraging the advanced computing resources built into the devices themselves, smartphones with on-device AI can provide services without relying on servers or the cloud. Users can be assured that their data will remain private and secure since information is not shared with external sources.

Samsung Research’s Global AI Center contributed to integrating proprietary technology into its AI translation model to commercialize these features for widespread use.

Envisioning a wide range of applications, the Samsung Research team and MX R&D Office obtained an expansive amount of data. “We collected colloquial data for real-time translation during calls in Live Translate and travel-related data for Interpreter,” explained Yoonjung Choi, who led the project. “To provide the most accurate translation, we studied and incorporated casual language used in chatrooms and HTML tags used in web browsers.”

How Samsung Research Trained Its AI Model

The Samsung Research team’s AI translation model is based on deep learning technology that learns from its own data. Yonghyun Ryu, who is in charge of AI research and development, likened this process to raising a child. “Similar to how a child needs excellent educational resources and caregivers to grow and thrive, good language data and talented researchers are required when developing a high-performance AI translation model,” he described.

Samsung Research has both — since 2013, the company has been providing in-house translation services, conducting R&D related to AI translation and accumulating high-quality data.

Samsung Research’s team of deep learning experts played an important role in training the AI model. “If incorrect translations occur during the research and development process, it is necessary to identify the problem and make improvements. However, this can be challenging and time-consuming for researchers without sufficient capabilities and experience,” he explained. “Our researchers used their expertise and know-how to quickly analyze the cause of the issue and come up with a solution to enhance the AI translation model.”

To assess the performance of Galaxy AI’s translations, the Samsung Research team used quantitative metrics based on test sets as well as qualitative evaluations by human translators and the MX R&D Office.

In addition, the team gained credibility by competing in global machine translation competitions. “Although participation requires time and effort, good performance in competitions provides momentum for research and development,” Ryu emphasized. “We were able to achieve strong results because our team members could freely discuss new ideas and put them to the test.”

Politeness and Punctuation: Understanding the Quirks of Each Language

Each language has characteristics that are unique to its culture — these can include honorifics, tonal inflections and distinct punctuation symbols. To make translations as accurate as possible, the AI translation model considers all these linguistic idiosyncrasies. For example, in Korean and Japanese, honorifics are translated to maintain a respectful tone.

Samsung collaborated with regional R&D centers to fully understand languages in their cultural context. “By working closely with researchers and linguists in other countries, we were able to offer a more accurate and complete translation,” said Choi.

At the same time, dealing with different languages often involves trial and error. “Vietnamese, for instance, is a tonal language. However, we realized during the research process that Vietnamese users often omit tones in casual conversations when chatting,” she explained. “We needed additional data to help the features translate sentences without tones.” For Thai, Samsung Research developed a special sentence separator because the language does not use punctuation.

Why Lightweight Technology Is the Key to Effective On-Device AI Models

Samsung Research began developing its on-device AI translation model in 2019. “Unlike server-based AI models, on-device AI models must be driven only using users’ devices,” stated Ryu. “Developing lightweight technology that uses minimal resources is key.” To make the model lighter, the team used “knowledge distillation” and “quantization” technology.

Knowledge distillation is a method that extracts knowledge from a large, high-performing teacher model and delivers it to a smaller student model. This is similar to how a teacher summarizes a topic so that a student can digest the information more easily and efficiently.

Quantization simplifies AI algorithms to reduce model size and streamlines the process to increase response speed.

Ryu compared quantization to drawing strawberries. “You need a wide range of colors to paint lifelike strawberries — but strawberries can also be made with just red and green,” he explained. “Quantization is the process of minimizing the number of colors needed to draw strawberries while trying to make it as close as possible to the real thing.”

In the AI field, knowledge distillation and quantization are well-known approaches to making models lighter. Yet, implementing them on a commercial scale is not easy due to differences in each researcher’s detailed experimental methods and factors. Samsung Research developed proprietary technology by discovering an efficient quantization technique and creating a accelerated algorithm based on it. “Through constant experimentation, we found an optimal way to make the model lighter,” commented Choi.

By combining the high-quality AI translation model with algorithms that make models lighter and speed up response time, lightweight and fast on-device AI features were born.

The Culture Behind the Language: What Would the Perfect AI Translation Model Look Like?

The researchers at Samsung Research’s Global AI Center have bright goals as they lead the field of on-device AI. “My ultimate goal is to help users communicate smoothly and conveniently with people who speak other languages,” said Choi. Ryu revealed his vision to build the perfect translator. “One day, we want to create a translator that truly understands the cultures behind the languages it is translating, equipped with an extensive pool of knowledge,” he expressed. “I want to challenge myself to develop a translator the world has never seen before.”

Samsung’s on-device AI translation features allow anyone with an enabled mobile device to communicate freely — without worrying about internet connection or information leakage. Going forward, the Samsung Research team will continue to spearhead innovations in the rapidly evolving field of AI and bring new levels of convenience to users.

Finding the Balance Between Innovation and the Environment

Samsung is reimagining how Galaxy technology is designed and packaged to do more with less when it comes to our planet’s natural resources. For the last decade, we have worked to innovate high-performance components that are made with recycled materials.

We took an important step in 2022 when we incorporated recycled discarded fishing nets, also known as ghost nets, in the Galaxy S22 series. Recycled materials can now be found in all Galaxy mobile products, including smartphones, tablets, PCs and wearables.¹ At the same time, we have expanded our use to a greater variety of materials, from several different types of plastics to metals and glass.

The Galaxy S24 series² takes these actions one step further. For the first time in any Galaxy device, we developed key device components with recycled cobalt, rare earth elements and steel. The battery³ in the Galaxy S24 Ultra contains a minimum of 50% recycled cobalt, and 100% recycled rare earth elements⁴ and a minimum of 40% recycled steel⁵ were used in the speakers.

Samsung has a long history of addressing the pervasive challenge of plastic waste through our recycled material innovations, and recycled plastics continue to play an important role in the Galaxy S24 series. The Galaxy S24 series maintains our use of recycled plastics sourced from discarded fishing nets, water barrels and PET bottles.

The recycled ocean-bound plastic⁶ material was created in partnership with global organizations who collected discarded fishing nets abandoned near the oceans. The nets’ properties were separated, cleaned and extruded before optimizing them into high-performance, recycled polyamide pellets. Similarly, the recycled polycarbonate and PET materials are sourced from discarded water barrels and PET bottles that were ground, filtered and melted down with other additives. This process helps us transform these fragile resources into high-performance optimized materials that uphold Samsung’s state-of-the-art design and high-quality standards. We also teamed up with other organizations to upcycle discarded Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) that was generated from shoe manufacturing.

This is a culmination of our continued efforts with our partners to transform fragile plastic wastes into high performance material used in Galaxy devices. With the Galaxy S24 series, our goal by end of 2024 is to help recover nearly 100 metric tons of recycled plastics⁷, which is equivalent to 10 million empty plastic bottles.⁸

When it comes to recycled metal, the Galaxy S24 series incorporates recycled aluminum⁹ that originates from scrap metal generated during manufacturing. The aluminum scrap is re-melted, filtered for impurities and then recycled to make components within Samsung’s product development process. With the Galaxy S24 series, our goal by end of 2024 is to recover about 110 metric tons of recycled aluminum, which is the equivalent of 9 million soda cans.¹⁰

Additionally, the Galaxy S24 series comes in a packaging box made using 100% recycled paper material. By the end of 2024, we hope to recover nearly 2,760 metric tons of recycled paper with Galaxy S24 series, which is equivalent of 552 million pieces of A4 paper.¹¹ If stacked on top of one another, that would be approximately the same height as 71 Burj Khalifas,¹² which is the tallest building in the world.

From the smallest components to the newest, most premium features, the Galaxy S24 series represents a significant stride in Samsung’s sustainability journey, and we remain committed to scaling these innovations in years to come. This work will help us shift to more circular designs and build technology that supports a more sustainable future.

Six ProVisual Engine Features That Help You Capture Life as It Happens

Motion Photo — With the Galaxy S24 series’ new Motion Photo capabilities, Team Samsung Galaxy b-boy extraordinaire Kid Karam’s signature breaking style can be captured in all its dynamic detail without missing a single movement. By recording the preview for up to three seconds, Motion Photo captures a short span of motion in action and compiles it into a single moving image.¹

In the Editor app, you can select any given frame from your Motion Photo to save as a standalone image. Thanks to automatic AI upscaling, the selected frame can be saved as a high-resolution image made up of 12MP for richer detail. Motion Photo also provides Super High Dynamic Range (HDR) capabilities, offering crystal-clear photos even when capturing in a backlit environment.

Finally, from the Gallery app, you can compress your whole three-second Motion Photo together to create a single Long Exposure image. This lets you capture, for example, the spectacular movement and color of an overhead firework display all in one photo. You can also apply other effects, such as Single Take via the Enhance-X app.

Faster Shot-to-Shot Shutter Speed — With a 30% boost in shot-to-shot shutter speed compared to the previous series, the Galaxy S24 series’ camera can take more photos within a shorter time span. This lets you take crystal-clear photos in rapid succession without having to slow down while images process. The next time you’re capturing your dog at the park, faster shots will let you capture every precious moment without missing it.

Instant Slow-mo — For those moments that are begging to be savored — like your daughter scoring the winning goal at a soccer match or your uncle busting his moves on the wedding reception dance floor — Instant Slow-mo has you covered, requiring no prior setup for the capturing process. Through intelligent AI Frame Rate Conversion (AI FRC) technology, the Galaxy S24 series can transform HD 24fps to UHD 60fps videos into slow-mo epics. FHD 240fps to UHD 120fps slow-mo videos can go further still with super slow motion. By generating new intermediate frames of movement based on the video that is already there, Instant Slow-mo achieves silky-smooth, highly detailed replays every time. Starting in late March, Instant Slow-mo will expand to support 480×480 24fps videos, allowing users to create social media-friendly video content with ease.

To achieve these slow-mo effects, the Galaxy S24 series uses powerful AI Frame Rate Conversion (FRC) technology:

• First, AI FRC takes every two frames from the video as it was originally recorded and uses a deep learning model to analyze and extract motion information.
• Extracting this information establishes the differences between frames and helps AI FRC interpolate intermediate frames that give the video slower motion.
• This process is carried out twice — in both square dimension and reverse dimension — to boost the accuracy of the new, additional frames that have been generated.
• Then, two fusion processes are carried out: Fusion Map and Residual. Fusion Map detects and extracts 2D outlines to help detect motion differences between frames, while Residual adds extra corrections and post-edits to minute details for enhanced accuracy. This allows the feature to create accurate intermediate frames extremely quickly.
• When this is completed, the outputs of these two processes are fused one last time to render the final, AI-generated intermediate frames that give the video both fluid slow motion and meticulous detail.

Dual Recording — There are times when your reaction to a moment is just as priceless as the moment itself. With Dual Recording, you can record simultaneously with both the front and the rear camera so that your loved ones can see not only how amazing the view from the mountain peak was, but how ecstatic you were to finally reach it.

Upgraded from the previous Director Mode feature, Dual Recording now even lets you record with two rear cameras at the same time — Ultra Wide with 3x, for example — with Full HD resolution supported on Galaxy S24 and S24+ and Full HD and Ultra HD supported on S24 Ultra. With Preview Snap, you can extract a snapshot image from your recording at any time, while dedicated Image Signal Processor (ISP) Block and enhanced ISP capabilities support improved video noise and brightness.

10 ND Filter Types — Neutral Density (ND) filters are often attached to professional-grade cameras to help do things like limit light, reduce noise or lengthen exposure. No such attachments are required, with 10 different ND filters built into the Galaxy 24 series’ camera for maximum user choice and control. ND-filtered photos synthesize multiple frames at once and analyze object movement to create one still image with a clear sense of living motion in, for example, photographs of waves or waterfalls.

Single Take — Galaxy’s Single Take function lets you capture a range of image types with just a tap — up to eight in total based on one shot. This means if you want to sneak a quick shot of your friend opening the birthday gift you got them, you don’t need to waste time deliberating over the best camera mode in advance.

AI also enhances Single Take’s pose and skeleton detection capabilities. Previously finetuned to analyze human motion, skeleton detection can now recognize pets too, tracking their poses and rapid movements in real time for the best photos, videos and collages of your leaping canines and lounging cats. If a human subject is jumping through the air, for example, skeleton detection identifies when the subject is at their highest point and presents that frame as the best image for the user. When applied to your pet, it analyzes your pet’s poses to capture the moment best showing off their facial features.

It also has bigger pixels — nearly 60% larger and measuring 1.4μm on each side of the pixel at 5x zoom.¹ Combined with enhanced AI ISP, this means the Galaxy S24 Ultra can capture more light and create brighter, less noisy images. The latest version of Enhance-X arms you with a new feature: Camera Shift. Moments are fleeting and sometimes you only have a second to take your shot, which can leave the final result less compelling than you intended. Shooting from above can have the effect of making a subject seem smaller, while shooting from below can make it seem bigger or more powerful, and a straight-on angle makes a subject seem more relatable. Camera Shift lets you shift your photo’s perspective after you take your shot. Now you can focus on capturing the moment without worrying about having the perfect angle or camera position. Once you’ve taken your photo, Camera Shift lets you achieve the effect you want by using AI to adjust the angle and perspective.

With the overarching theme of “Future First,” MWC is discussing some of the biggest topics in tech and showcasing the various cutting-edge technologies that are anticipated to shape our future, including AI, 5G and 6G networks and the Internet of Things (IoT). This year’s exhibition is expected to attract about 100,000 attendees, comparable to pre-pandemic numbers, according to estimates.

Samsung Electronics is welcoming visitors to its booths across Halls 2 and 3, offering a closer look at its mobile, network and semiconductor businesses. Specifically, the highly anticipated design of the Galaxy Ring — previewed during Galaxy Unpacked 2024 this past January — is on display to the public for the first time.

Samsung Newsroom checked out these booths to find out exactly what the draw is for so many, and paid the Galaxy Experience Space a visit at Plaça de Catalunya in the heart of Barcelona.

As the MWC doors opened on February 26, the 1,745-square-meter Galaxy booth at the Fira Gran Via exhibition site filled with attendees spanning media, industry partners and experts alike. All were in hopes of getting their hands on the Galaxy S24 series — dubbed the “AI phone” — unveiled last month and being one of the first to see the Galaxy Ring’s design for themselves.

The Galaxy AI area offers attendees with an intuitive experience of Samsung’s newest innovative features including Live Translate, allowing users to overcome language barriers even when talking on the phone; Circle to Search, giving users the ability to search for an item they see in a photo or video simply by pressing the home button and drawing a circle around the object; Note Assist, which generates brief summaries of long texts; and Generative Edit, which allows users to edit photos like a pro.

Samsung’s booth also features a designated area where visitors can experience the Galaxy S24 series’ camera performance. A dark room with blackout shades keeping the light out shows the potential of the series’ new Nightography feature and its AI-powered ProVisual Engine that boasts enhanced stability when taking photos or filming videos.

In addition, the Samsung booth offers attendees an opportunity to experience the new Galaxy Book4 series and its connectivity features. Additionally, with the newest Galaxy AI features coming to the Galaxy S23 series via software update, these phones were also on display so attendees could experience Samsung’s innovations on previous models.

Amid tremendous excitement leading up to the reveal of the Galaxy Ring at MWC 2024, global media and attendees were eager to explore Samsung’s latest product.

With its small form factor packed with Samsung’s innovative technologies, the Galaxy Ring offers integrated insights based on health data collected during the day and night. While the Galaxy Ring has yet to be released, it’s already captivating audiences with its three color options — black, gold and silver — and nine different sizes.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Experience Space located at Plaça de Catalunya in central Barcelona drew a crowd with visitors eagerly awaiting their opportunity to experience Galaxy AI by searching, translating, summarizing and editing in ways never seen before.

The Galaxy Experience Space has been operating since February 15 and will remain open until February 29, the last day of MWC 2024.

At the exhibition booths, Samsung introduced a suite of products with a focus on the Galaxy S24 series along with the highly anticipated Galaxy Ring — the company’s latest wearable technology, which officially debuted at MWC 2024. Consumers, media and partners from around the world crowded the booth where it was unveiled to catch a glimpse of its eye-catching design.

To break down the barrier between complicated technology and daily life, designers at Samsung Electronics reviewed and redefined user touchpoints to create an accessible user experience (UX) for the Galaxy S24 series.

The result — Intelligence UX, an interface that empowers users with AI-based mobile features that are intuitive, easy to use and highly applicable to work and life alike.

Bringing Mobile AI Into Daily Living

Can you tell us about how Intelligence UX came to be?

Choi: Even before entering the phase of generative AI,¹ research on how to create new mobile experiences with AI technology was already underway. We analyzed the apps we frequently use and carefully developed functions and features that could be enhanced through AI. The goal for Intelligence UX was to lower the barrier to entry for mobile AI by improving commonly used apps.

One example is the Gallery app. Previously, functions for modifying images included brightness and color correction, horizontal adjustment, and crop. With Generative edit, users can do all of this and more, such as moving objects within an image and altering backgrounds.

What are Intelligence UX’s features?

Na: Intelligence UX makes it easier to reach your goals by streamlining tasks in four main areas. Productivity is improved through apps that can summarize content or convert it into the preferred format, helping you save time and get the most out of each day. For creative tasks, features like Generative edit give you the tools to retouch photos like a pro by moving around objects in a photo or filling in empty spaces. Communication features break down language barriers when calling or messaging for improved communication. Lastly, you can personalize your phone with wallpapers created using generative AI or have your lock screen reflect changes in the weather or time.

What was the process of creating Intelligence UX?

Na: It would be ideal if the output appeared immediately after pressing a button, but AI generation can take time. To make the process feel magical, we added visual and interactive effects as well as text. Designers from all fields — including user interface (UI), graphic user interface (GUI) and visual interaction (VI) — and UX writers collaborated to overcome any limitations encountered during the creation of Intelligence UX.

How have you responded to issues with hallucinations² in generative AI?

Na: We have been collaborating with the developer team for a while now to prevent hallucinations. Tests to determine the minimum number of characters needed for an accurate summary or how many degrees a photo can be tilted to produce enhanced images helped us establish standards to minimize false results and bad user experiences.

What are your thoughts on the concerns over privacy and security since processing is based on information entered by the user?

Choi: Early on, both the developer and UX teams agreed that personal conversations contain highly sensitive user information. Therefore, apps that support phone calls or messages were made to handle on-device³ processing. Data protection is non-negotiable — and since the main purpose of communication is to facilitate conversation, we decided to stick with on-device processing even if it means users need to download language packages first.

If there is data that needs to be processed through a server, we notify users that nothing will be stored or used for learning purposes to improve AI functions before securing their consent. Additionally, we added a setting to block data processing through a server, so users know their data won’t leave their devices.

How have users responded to the Galaxy S24 series since its launch?

Na: Many people have said the Galaxy S24 series is helpful when traveling abroad or ordering products from overseas which used to be difficult due to language barriers. The team feels rewarded when we hear positive feedback from acquaintances.

Life Is Easier and More Efficient With Intelligence UX

Communication Without Borders

Say goodbye to language barriers with the Galaxy S24 series. When Live Translate is used on a call, the conversation is translated in real time for seamless communication in different languages. The Interpreter button in the Quick panel can be used to aid real-time translation during face-to-face conversations. Meanwhile, the AI built into the Samsung Keyboard allows for real-time translation of text messages as well as spelling corrections, grammar assistance and writing style changes.

Creativity, Simplified

Generative edit can help create the perfect shot. With this feature, people or objects can be moved, the horizon can be adjusted and any empty spaces left behind will be filled in automatically.

Enhance Your Everyday

The Galaxy S24 series helps save time and effort. Transcript Assist converts audio from classes or meetings into text, differentiates between speakers, provides summaries, and even offers translations. Websites can also be summarized and translated.

Samsung Notes is great for jotting down ideas. Users can convert their handwritten notes into text and organize them into useful formats. Once a note is saved, the feature recommends apt titles and cover designs based on the content, making note creation simple and fun.

Samsung will present the AI features of Galaxy S24 series that empower user’s communication and creativity, brought to life in everyday scenarios at the booth. This includes features such as Live Translate² powered by on-device AI for two-way, real-time translations of phone calls that defy language barriers. Circle to Search with Google³ enables quick and easy, more intuitive searching to make new discoveries with just a simple gesture. Also on show will be Note Assist,⁴ which simplifies and organizes complex texts, as well as Generative Edit,⁵ which allows a user to freely resize or reposition subjects within photos for more creative freedom.

Samsung has also organized a space where visitors can check out the powerful camera performance of Galaxy S24 series. In the zone resembling a dim concert hall, close-up shots can be taken of small objects placed on stage to utilize the Nightography capabilities of Galaxy S24 series, upgraded to be more stable in low light thanks to Galaxy’s AI-based ProVisual Engine.⁶

These Galaxy AI capabilities are soon to be expanded to existing Galaxy models, including Galaxy Z Fold5, Z Flip5 and Tab S9 series, as well as Galaxy S23 series and S23 FE.⁷ In addition, Samsung is offering the chance to experience enhanced productivity first-hand with Galaxy Book4 series, set to launch globally from February 26. Displayed at the Samsung booth, connectivity features on Galaxy devices will demonstrate how users can elevate productivity seamlessly, such as easy transfer and editing of photos and videos between Galaxy S24, Galaxy Book4 and Galaxy Tab S9.

More Connected Wellness Experiences, Powered by AI

Samsung will be displaying its intelligent health lineup at MWC, offering users even more personalized and seamless health experiences with the transformative power of AI, across even more devices. As part of this portfolio, Galaxy Ring is being unveiled as a new health form factor that simplifies everyday wellness, supporting smarter and healthier living via a more connected digital wellness platform — Samsung Health.

Samsung is also set to exhibit upcoming intelligent health features. For example, My Vitality Score⁸ offers personalized health insights based on multiple factors including Sleep, Activity, Heart Rate and Heart Rate Variability, while Booster Card⁹ helps make each day healthier by tracking predefined goals and delivering actionable insights. Visitors will be able to see the benefits of these features on Galaxy Watch6 series paired with Galaxy S24, prior to public availability later this year.

Leveraging Samsung’s SmartThings ecosystem, Samsung is showcasing how the home can be turned into a place for healthier living.¹⁰ Control connected lights to automatically turn off and on for a more optimal sleep¹¹ or set alerts as a reminder to take medicine. It also allows a user to track exercises and measure heart rate and calories burned in real-time while following a fitness video on a connected TV, all at the same time.

What’s New: Explore Galaxy AI Through Widgets and Tutorials

The updated Try Galaxy app simulates the experience of looking at an actual Galaxy S24 home screen. Once users are in the app, tutorials and interactive content help them navigate the latest interface.

The new widget on the second page of the home screen introduces the core AI-powered features of the Galaxy S24 series and its advanced camera tools. Users can tap each item to watch short demonstration videos explaining the features and how they’re applied in daily life. Check marks appear next to the completed items so users can track their progress.

Below is an overview of the new AI features spotlighted in the widget:

• Live Translate: Communicate without language barriers using the real-time, two-way call translation feature built into the native app. Effortlessly get in touch with a ride-share driver or make a restaurant reservation in a foreign country with voice and text translations of phone calls, supported in 13 languages.²

• Note Assist: Take notes as usual, but now receive instant AI-generated summaries to help streamline and organize notes. Turn dense paragraphs into bullet points with headers for easy review. The feature allows for automatic formatting, spell check and translations.

• Chat Assist: Refine the tone of any text message for the occasion, ranging from professional to casual. Send polished meeting agendas to the boss, and chat with international friends in Spanish. The AI built into the Samsung Keyboard can also translate messages in real-time in 13 languages² so that users can communicate better across cultural and language barriers.

• Photo Assist: Get the perfect shot with the help of Generative Edit, an AI tool that allows users to resize, reposition or even remove objects within photos. Tweak the composition of a photo in an instant with Edit Suggestion. Use the Erase Reflection tool to automatically remove unwanted shadows and light reflections.

• Circle to Search with Google: With a circling gesture, search for anything displayed on screen without switching apps. When users spot something they like in a social media post, they can simply long-press the home button and draw a circle around the image to get instant and helpful search results about the coveted item. Depending on the location, generative AI-powered overviews will be provided.

In addition to the AI features, the widget sheds light on the Galaxy S24 series’ advanced camera tools. Through immersive tutorial videos shot from first-person perspective, users can learn how to take clear, bright photos at night from far away using Nightography Zoom, record steady videos of subjects moving at high speed with the Super Steady feature and shoot impressive portraits and selfies in Portrait mode.

Other Updates and Availability

While on the app, users can also check out the new Galaxy Themes or background images beyond Wallpapers, offered on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. As a bonus, three types of Art Wallpapers including graffiti and pop art are available for download.

Samsung Electronics today announced the availability of Galaxy AI¹ features on more Galaxy devices through a new One UI 6.1 update engineered to further the democratization of mobile AI. The update will be available across the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5 and Tab S9 series, starting to roll out from the end of March. Aligning with the recently launched Galaxy S24 series,² this update elevates the standard of users’ mobile AI experience through a hybrid approach that combines on-device and cloud-based AI.

Captivating the Next Generation for the Past Three Years

Samsung Eco-Friends is a collection of accessories, including product cases and wearable straps, envisioned by Samsung’s Future Generation Lab.³ Reflecting the next generation’s preference for eco-conscious products, these accessories incorporate sustainable materials — such as recycled plastic and vegan leather that contain at least 40% post-consumer materials.⁴

Originally introduced in 2022, the expanded collection features popular characters and designs from around the world — including TOILETPAPER, Keith Haring, Smiley, The Simpsons and more. Sanrio characters⁵ like Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi and Cinnamoroll have been newly added to this year’s product line.

On February 16, Samsung unveiled a video introducing “Samsung Eco-Friends” via its global social media channels including YouTube and Instagram.

Converse face-to-face without language barriers: As a small business owner attending an expo on emerging market trends, you spot a renowned expert in your niche from a popular YouTube business page. You want to pick her brain, but you know from the show that she speaks Italian, and you don’t.

Interpreter takes live translation out of the call app and into the physical world. With this feature, Galaxy S24 becomes a real-time, in-person translator. Because the tool splits the phone screen into two horizontally, each person can show instantly translated text to the other, along with accompanying audio. It also lets you select the language you need and communicate smoothly and professionally with anyone around you.

Organize Your Phone and Your Thoughts

Although our phones provide a handy way to capture ideas, research projects and arrange meetings, organizing all that on a handheld device can be a challenge. Using responsive Galaxy AI capabilities, however, Galaxy S24 intelligently organizes your phone, so you stay focused on the big picture.

Keep your documents and plans organized: Deep into a work project, you realize the relevant resources you need are scattered everywhere: long emails, detailed articles, PDFs and more. If you could pull everything together into one cohesive format, it would save you hours of laborious notetaking and file conversion.

Thanks to the Note Assist feature, you can generate, read and save abridged versions of all your materials in a few taps of your finger, transforming the daily churn of documents into a well-structured archive. By pulling up a document, Note Assist prompts you to save its content straight to your Samsung Notes app. Once there, the feature can auto format the text and correct spelling mistakes before creating a simple or detailed bullet point summary of the whole document above the main text so you can see all the key points at a glance whenever you need to.

The feature can also extract and summarize text straight from physical books and papers and can translate notes into other languages, while its Browsing Assist capabilities can turn long, detailed articles into succinct summaries.

Accurately document everything: It’s a classic dilemma: You’re in an important work meeting, and you need to take detailed notes while at the same time staying focused and making contributions. With Galaxy S24, you can have it both ways.

Transcript Assist creates full, accurate records of meetings and conversations. Simply record the meeting using the native Samsung voice recording app, and afterwards Transcript Assist will offer to convert it to text, with sentences separated according to individual speakers. Once you’ve got your transcript, you can share it with your colleagues as is, or send it to Samsung Notes and add an AI-generated bullet summary to it using Note Assist.

If you have preexisting audio files recorded without Transcript Assist, the feature can convert these files to notes using Text to Audio.

For certain searches, this feature also allows you to get AI-powered overviews so you can more easily understand concepts, ideas or topics from helpful information pulled together from across the web. In this way, well ahead of your travels, AI adds a new dimension of preparation, helping you follow your curiosity with confidence.

DAY ONE: You make connections across language barriers, thanks to your personal pocket translator.

Settling into your hostel, you’re keen to meet people and get all the hot tips on where to eat and what to see. But while travel is an exciting experience, it can be overwhelming if you don’t speak the language. In the hostel’s lounge area, you use Galaxy S24’s Interpreter feature to sidestep the language differences and converse with your fellow travelers in real time and in person, asking them for site-seeing recommendations with a local spin. On one side of the screen is the translated audio text of the person you’re speaking to, and on the other side is your part of the conversation translated for them.

As the first Winter Youth Olympic Games in Asia, more than 1,800 youth athletes from 79 countries will compete in 15 sports across seven events in two weeks, fostering the Olympic spirit. “Meet Galaxy AI in a Winter Snow Field.” – Samsung Galaxy Olympic Games Experience Center

The Samsung Galaxy Olympic Games Experience Center is located in Gangneung Olympic Park. Shaped like a giant snow ball, it reminded visitors of a winter snow field and drew their attention. The long line in front of the entrance despite the cold weather showed the intense interest in the new products unveiled at the recent Galaxy Unpacked.

Outside the experience center, an 8-meter-high structure with the official mascot of the Games, Moongcho, and the Samsung Galaxy logo welcomed the visitors. A photo zone that shows Moongcho and Samsung Electronics’ partnership with the Olympic Games and looks like a snow globe was set up at the information zone. Visitors all took photos there, showing their excitement for the competition.

The main experience center was packed with visitors eager to see the latest Galaxy products. The experience center consisted of an experience zone where visitors could try out the main features of Galaxy AI in the Galaxy S24 series, as well as other spaces that showcase Galaxy’s innovative mobile experiences, such as the Galaxy foldable and the Galaxy Book4 series exhibition zone, etc.

Visitors were thrilled with the new AI-powered experiences, including Live Translate, which translates a phone call in real time; Circle to Search, which allows users to circle an image or video to quickly find information without moving the screen; and Note Assist, which summarizes long texts written in the Samsung Notes app. “I think the live interpretation and translation feature will be very helpful for smooth communication with foreigners at international events such as the Youth Olympic Games,” said a visitor who tried out Galaxy AI.

Visitors enjoyed a unique entertainment experience by playing winter sports-themed games and taking selfies with the Galaxy S24 series. Participants who took photos with the Galaxy S24 series were impressed with the powerful camera experience, which enables high-definition zoom, as well as optimal photos even when taken in low light. Galaxy AI’s various Gallery app editing features, which can greatly improve the quality of photos and videos taken, received a lot of attention as well.

Message of Support From Team Samsung Galaxy

On the 20th, the day after the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Youth Olympic Games, the first session of Chat with Samsung Galaxy, where inspirational stories are shared for youth athletes and visitors, was held at the Samsung Galaxy Olympic Games Experience Center.

Team Samsung Galaxy, a group of ambassadors comprised of Olympic athletes from around the world representing a variety of sports, participated in this event and had a discussion under the theme of “Breaking Barriers and Opening New Opportunities.” The event was packed with youth athletes, visitors, Olympic officials, influencers, as well as local and international media who gathered to listen to the session.

The event kicked off with actor Jae Min Park, who is an Olympic Games commentator and Gangwon 2024 ambassador, moderating the session. “Samsung Electronics has been an official partner of the Olympic Games for about 35 years,” said actor Park. “We organized the ‘Chat with Team Samsung Galaxy’ session to provide great inspiration at the Olympic Games for the youth,” he explained.

The audience erupted in cheers and applause when Team Samsung Galaxy member and national breaking athlete Yeri Kim of the upcoming Olympic Games Paris 2024, Team Samsung Galaxy member and short track & speed skating athlete Dae-heon Hwang of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 and Team Samsung Galaxy member and British snowboarder Katie Ormerod of Beijing 2022 appeared.

Yeri Kim, who competed at the Summer Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018, and Dae-heon Hwang, who competed at the Winter Youth Olympic Games Lillehammer 2016 Youth Olympic Games, said it was a special feeling to come to Gangwon 2024. “I was even more eager to come because it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in Youth Olympic Games,” Kim recalled. “But I think we made history by winning a medal in the breaking event, which was for the first time in Korea as well as the sport itself. So it is a very meaningful and proud memory,” she said. “The Youth Olympic Games was a step toward and experience for preparing for the future Olympic Games for me. It’s what got me here today,” said Hwang.

Katie Ormerod shared her experience as a mentor to younger athletes. “I try to show them the importance of enjoying sports,” said Ormerod. “I think truly enjoying what you do is one of the most powerful drivers in life and a foundation for growth,” she added.

The members of Team Samsung Galaxy shared the challenges they faced during their athletic careers and how they overcame them and opened up new opportunities. Ormerod, who underwent seven surgeries due to an injury just before the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, said, “Even when I had to relearn how to walk, I didn’t let that stop me.” She added, “The support I had received while sharing my rehabilitation process on social media greatly helped me get through it, and I found myself as a snowboarder again,” she said.

“I always had anxiety about whether my hearing aids would deliver the music properly, but I didn’t see my disability as a barrier to my life,” said Kim, who overcame her limitation as a deaf breakdancer. “Opening up about my disability actually helped me connect with people more and grow,” she said.

Dae-heon Hwang, who won the gold medal at Beijing 2022, shared his advice on feeling the pressure regarding injuries. “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t struggle every time I got injured,” he said. “With more injury, I worked out more, and I used it as an opportunity to get stronger,” he said, emphasizing that there’s nothing you can’t do if you keep trying.

The sincere stories of Team Samsung Galaxy athletes who overcame their limits with an open mind resonated with many people, as they are in line with Samsung Galaxy’s brand spirit of pursuing unlimited possibilities based on openness.

When asked by the audience what they like about using Galaxy as a member of Team Samsung Galaxy, Hwang said, “I utilize Galaxy’s amazing camera to capture videos for training analysis.” “I’m using Galaxy Z Flip, and it fits in my pocket so I can use it when I’m snowboarding as well,” said Ormerod. “For me, this smartphone is like a game changer for snowboarding,” she added.

Using Galaxy S24’s Live Translate feature — a two-way, real-time voice and text translation of phone calls within the native app — Samsung Members Stars from different backgrounds seamlessly communicated and collaborated, demonstrating how Galaxy AI can help bridge language barriers and cultural divides. The Circle to Search feature, which allows users to obtain information by simply drawing a circle on a photo or video, further showcased the intuitive and convenient nature of Galaxy AI.

Upon entering the space through an arch designed to resemble a portal, visitors found themselves immediately in front of a star-shaped digital wall. This installation represented the infinite possibilities for mobile innovation in the AI era. Visitors had the opportunity to interact directly with Galaxy AI, which brought the Galaxy S24 series’ core features to life and showcased how AI could enhance their daily routines. With the help of Samsung employees, guests could try out AI features such as Live Translate and Chat Assist.

“When my mom calls the doctor, they put her on hold because she can only speak Spanish,” shared Yesenia Candia, a Hispanic resident of Manhattan. “It might take her some time to get used to using the AI features, but I definitely see my mom using Live Translate to make doctor’s appointments.”

Space #2. New Way To Create: Capture and Edit Photos Anytime, Anywhere

After passing through the Galaxy AI Experience zone, visitors entered an area where they could interact with the Galaxy S24 series’ latest camera features. First, a photo booth where visitors could practice snapping selfies caught visitors’ attention. With just one click, Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Single Take feature took a variety of images and videos in multiple best shots. Visitors could save the photos and videos on their personal devices by simply snapping a QR code — or they could put their pictures on display on a large screen nearby.

“With the Single Take feature, you can just take one shot, and it automatically creates different variations of images and videos,” said Samaya Chadha, a visitor from Manhattan, after trying out the Single Take photo booth. “It’s really cute, and I can see myself using this feature for posting on social media.”

Next to the photo booth was an interactive photo zone. Samsung collaborated with creative studio Sticky Monster Lab to build a snapshot-worthy art installation, allowing visitors to shoot and edit photos as they would normally, except this time using AI Edits to remove objects and reflections.

“As a content creator, the AI Edit feature really streamlines the editing process. I can’t believe the Galaxy S24 series can remove reflections and objects so smoothly,” said Emily Shon, a marketing professional and content creator based in New York. “I can definitely see myself using the Remove Object feature a lot, especially when I take photos in public and want to remove people in the background or things that are out of place. It’s an arduous process using other apps, so having it built into your phone is actually crazy.”

Space #3. The Connected Power of Samsung Galaxy

In this zone, visitors had the opportunity to explore the seamless connectivity of the Galaxy S24 series. Connecting their Galaxy S24 series with the Galaxy Book4 series enabled users to effortlessly open recently viewed web pages from their smartphones on a larger PC screen. The seamless transition also allowed users to answer text messages and phone calls on the Galaxy Book4 series. In this experience zone, visitors could also test out Quick Share, Galaxy’s file sharing feature, and Google Meet, Google’s video conference service.

Miguel Martin, a Galaxy fan from the Bronx and an IT major, shared his enthusiasm, “I enjoyed exploring and learning more about Galaxy AI. I used the touchscreen to learn about the Galaxy AI features – the Circle to Search and Live Translate features are insane.” He added, “It’s amazing the Chat Assist feature can support casual dialogue. I’m from another country, and my family and friends speak Spanish. Many of them like to try communicating in English, so I feel like it will be a great way for them to pick up conversational English.”

Samsung Newsroom put the Live Translate feature to the test with a call to a local modern Italian-American restaurant in downtown San Jose, California. Here’s the firsthand experience and how this innovation is breaking down language barriers and transforming the way users communicate.

Live Translate: Connect With People, Places and Cultures Any Time, in Any Language

To make the reservation, a Korean editor from Samsung Newsroom first pressed the Live Translate button on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, then dialed the number. Once she connected with a restaurant employee, an automated message announced, “Hello. This call is being translated and live captioned.”

“Hello, how may I help you?” replied a restaurant hostess on the other line. The Newsroom editor responded in Korean, “Hello! I’d like to make a reservation for this Thursday at 1:30 PM.” After pausing to listen to the translation, the restaurant asked for the total number of people. The editor continued in Korean, “Six. Can I make a reservation for a window seat?” The Live Translate feature then seamlessly conveyed this message to the restaurant employee in English.

On the day of the reservation, Samsung Newsroom visited the restaurant to sit down with the restaurant’s general manager, Drianna Cardarelli, and asked about her thoughts on Live Translate for the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

“I think it’s great for hospitality, especially for guests who don’t speak English,” shared Drianna. “I think that it will help a lot of guests feel more comfortable calling the restaurant with questions rather than reaching out to us through email or our online reservation platform.”

She saw Live Translate as a valuable tool for situations when a phone call is simpler than using an online platform, whether it’s for event planning or inquiring about job opportunities. “Sometimes, we have a lot of Spanish-speaking guests,” Drianna explained. “It would be great if they could just bypass asking to talk to someone fluent in Spanish. They can avoid having any issues at all — language barriers, gone.”

Live Translate is one of the many features of the Galaxy S24 Ultra powered by on-device AI, which keeps phone calls private and secure. What’s more, this on-device AI processes calls quickly, even compared to the online version.

Samsung Electronics yesterday announced the launch of an accessories line for the Galaxy S24 series that have been created in collaboration with three European artists. The three contributing artists are Ricardo Cavolo (Spain), Steven Wilson (U.K.) and Yeye Weller (Germany). Each artist is known for producing culturally inspired work, and the accessories they have created provide a unique opportunity for customers to celebrate European art in their day-to-day lives.

The accessories lineup for the Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra comprises three types of cases — and the Galaxy Z Flip5 will also get three new Flipsuit cards designed by the three artists. Since these accessories are equipped with near field communication (NFC) technology, they automatically display animations on screen when attached. Customers who purchase one of the accessories will also receive a matching Galaxy Watch6 face as a special gift, which will be available for free download through a guide included in the packaging. The collection is exclusively available for purchase from January 17 at Samsung.com, starting with 16 countries and extending to more than 20 markets by January 26.¹ Supported countries include Korea, the U.S., China, the U.K., Germany, France, Australia and Brazil.

“We’re excited to be working with leading European artists to deliver accessories that will better allow consumers to express their own unique voices,” said Evelyn Kim, EVP of the Global Brand Center at Samsung Electronics. “This collaboration serves as an expansion to the already rich, differentiated set of accessories offerings available on Samsung.com.”

Cases Featuring Evocative Designs From European Artists

Ricardo Cavolo is based in Barcelona, Spain and draws inspiration from folk art, medieval aesthetics and tribal forms. His work weaves together these narratives, infusing his art with layers that create mythical storytelling. His iconic “Flaming Heart” artwork is the basis for accessories that use the powerful imagery of a heart on fire against a sky-blue background with white stars.

The second contributing artist is the London-based Illustrator Steven Wilson, who is known for his passion for screen printing and color layering. His critically acclaimed artwork featuring a bulldog takes center stage in this collaboration, making use of striking colors and pronounced lines.

Finally, Yeye Weller from Münster, Germany is an internationally respected artist who infuses his work with bold colors and details to create delightful, adorable characters. His core “Spread Love” artwork has inspired the design of his Galaxy S24 cases, Flipsuit card and Galaxy Watch6 face.

Building on Samsung’s previous collaboration with contemporary artists, this new line of accessories will further enable users to take advantage of Samsung’s cutting-edge technology while still expressing their own sense of style with distinctive art.

Setting the Stage for the Samsung’s First AI Phone 

Before entering the arena for Galaxy Unpacked, media, influencers and fans from around the world packed the lobby. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation for the latest Galaxy devices, which promised to revolutionize the mobile landscape with Galaxy AI.

Hands-On With the Galaxy S24 Series in the Experience Zone 

Following the Unpacked presentation, visitors flocked to the Galaxy S24 Experience Zone, where they could experience Galaxy AI for the first time.

First Impressions From Team Samsung Galaxy and Samsung Members Stars

Following the Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung Newsroom sat down with remarkable athlete ambassadors from Team Samsung Galaxy, Samsung Members Stars and consumers to hear their first reactions to the newly unveiled Galaxy products. 

“It’s amazing to be here at Unpacked for the first time,” said Sky Brown, professional skateboarder, surfer and member of Team Samsung Galaxy. Her favorite new feature was Instant Slow-mo, powered by Galaxy AI, which adds new frames to slow down videos. “I’m always filming my skating and surfing,” she revealed. “The Slow-mo is insane. I can capture everything to analyze and fix my tricks. It’s so helpful with the things I do.”

“The presentation was unbelievably detailed, and the passion was unreal,” said Jagger Eaton, Olympic skateboarder and fellow member of Team Samsung Galaxy. What caught his attention the most was the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s camera, particularly its Space Zoom and Slow-mo features. “The first thing I did when I walked into the Galaxy Experience Space was grab the phone and use the camera,” he shared. “With Galaxy AI, I feel like you can use it for everyday life.”

Samsung Newsroom then had the opportunity to meet with Samsung Members Stars, the company’s brand ambassadors who share their passion for Galaxy with Samsung Community members worldwide.

Ahyeon Lee and Ayeong Lee, twin sisters from Korea, shared their excitement about seeing the all-new Samsung Galaxy S24 series unveiled in person. Of all the new Galaxy AI functions, they chose Note Assist and Circle to Search as the most impressive features. “I use Samsung laptops for studying and note-taking to organize my schedule. It’s fantastic that AI can summarize my notes in one go, saving me the trouble of doing it manually,” said Ahyeon Lee. “Before, when I came across clothes or shoes that I liked, I used to take pictures and ask around for where to buy them. Now, with Circle to Search, I can look for information immediately with a simple swipe,” added her sister, Ayeong Lee.

“Previously, I’ve only watched the Galaxy Unpacked event through YouTube live. It was an honor to be able to see TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience (MX) Business, in person today,” said Alexis Masson, a Samsung Members Star from France. “The AI Edit and Chat Assist features revealed at Unpacked today caught my attention, specifically in how the features help you by suggesting different text styles and tones. As a Samsung Members Star, I plan to use these AI features to help me write articles for the Samsung Community.”

Tapping Into the Excitement of Galaxy Users 

Finally, Samsung Newsroom spoke with influencers and media in attendance to check the pulse on which Galaxy AI features were their favorites.

Gamers, athletes and lifestyle influencers alike — numerous Unpacked attendees pointed out Circle to Search with Google as a highlight of the Galaxy S24 series. “Circle to Search is going to make shopping so easy for me!” said Raghda Kouyoumdjian, a social media influencer and lifestyle YouTuber from Jordan. “You don’t need to screenshot, type in more information or switch to another app. You can just circle the item, and that’s amazing.”

Gamers, in particular, also expressed enthusiasm for the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s bright and immersive viewing experience. With its 6.8-inch flatter display and slimmer, more uniform bezels that allow for larger screen sizes, the anticipation was high. Denise Teo JiaQi (Supercatkei), a Twitch streamer from Singapore, shared her excitement, saying, “I already knew it was going to be pretty epic, to be honest. The seamless screen experience on the Galaxy S24 is something I really enjoy as a gamer and live streamer. I’m very eager to try it for myself!”

Tomas Stasiukevičius, a reporter from Lithuania for Delfi, found Samsung’s efforts to overcome language barriers particularly impressive. “I was completely blown away by all the AI that enhances the experience of the Samsung Galaxy S24 series,” he said. “I’m really excited about the new Interpreter and Live Translate features that you can actually use to communicate in a foreign language without any boundaries.” Tomas recounted a personal experience facing language barriers in Spain, where English wasn’t widely spoken, making communication challenging. “However, with the new Galaxy S24 series, traveling has become limitless.”

Ngô Trần Thịnh, the Head of Digital Content at Ho Chi Minh City Television, praised the translation of Live Translate, even for complex language pairs. “I used to think translation was impossible, but with AI, it’s absolutely possible.” Putting the feature to the test, he spoke in Vietnamese while his friend communicated in English, achieving a “100% accurate” translation. In his role, Thịnh focuses on making technology seamless for users, noting that Samsung is excelling in this aspect.” That’s what I love about Samsung’s technology – it’s ushering in a new era of AI for all.”

On January 17, Samsung Electronics announced a new era of mobile AI with the release of its Galaxy AI S24 series — forever changing how we interact with the world through our mobile devices.

New Ways To Connect: Breaking Down Language Barriers

Communication is key to our daily lives. This is why Galaxy AI offers innovative AI features to enhance user experiences, enabling seamless communication anywhere, anytime. Drew Blackard, Vice President of Mobile Product Management, Samsung Electronics America introduced this new range of features for the Galaxy S24 series via live demonstration.

The Galaxy S24 series offers Live Translate, real-time, two-way call translations within the native call app. The feature supports audio and text translations for up to 13 languages, no matter what phone the other person uses. Additionally, Galaxy AI is more secure as it operates on-device instead of relying on external cloud systems.

The presentation highlighted how the Galaxy S24 series can be conveniently used in everyday life. The device can act as a user’s personal Interpreter, whether they’re lost and asking for directions or ordering food at a restaurant. Plus, when a user sends a text, Chat Assist immediately translates the message, allowing users to easily text with friends in the language they’re most comfortable speaking. Drew Blackard explained that with Transcript Assist, users can create and share short summaries of recorded conversations or use Note Assist to stay organized during meetings. Finally, the new Android Auto feature allows drivers to navigate safely, access their favorite media and stay connected while on the road.

New Ways To Search: Partnering To Revolutionize the Mobile Search Framework

Samsung has a long history of partnering up to push the boundaries of what’s possible to deliver leading and premium experiences. TM Roh returned to the stage and introduced Google as the primary partner to lead the mobile AI era with the Galaxy S24 series.

Along with innovative search features, the Galaxy S24 series protects users’ personal information. New Ways To Create: Boosting Content Creation With Enhanced Camera Features

The Galaxy S24 Ultra can maximize users’ creative freedom with a wide-ranging suite of AI tools, powered by an all-new ProVisual Engine. Tara Rael, Product Specialist at  Samsung Electronics America, took the stage and played a concert video of the popular K-POP group TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) shot with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The video, filmed as if the user were sitting in the front row, utilized Nightography Zoom on Galaxy S24 Ultra.

With the Galaxy S24 series, users can now take advantage of the Galaxy’s native camera experiences on their favorite social media apps. The power of AI also extends to video, where users can create and watch any video in Instant Slow-mo, even if they didn’t film it that way. Or, they can use Dual Recording to create 4K vlogs utilizing the front and rear cameras at the same time. Now, anyone with the Galaxy S24 series can produce pro-quality content without additional equipment.

Quick Share, Galaxy’s file sharing feature, has evolved as well. Through the partnership with Google, users can now easily share files across all Android devices and Windows PCs.

New Ways To Play: Optimal Mobile Gaming Experiences Through Powerful Performance

The latest AI features call for cutting-edge chip technology. That’s why the Galaxy S24 series is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy and Samsung’s Exynos 2400, respectively. With these, the device offers superior usability and faster and smoother gameplay alongside Ray tracing module for a more immersive gaming experience.

Sustainability and More: Samsung’s Vision for a Sustainable Future

The next frontier of innovation can and should do more for people and the planet. For the first time in a Galaxy device, the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s battery features a minimum of 50% recycled cobalt, while all the magnets in the speaker are made from 100% recycled rare earth elements. Additionally, every Galaxy S24 series is packaged in 100% recycled paper. Looking forward, the company aims to incorporate at least one recycled material in every module of all its mobile products by 2030, advancing its commitment to sustainability.

Shooting with even the basic settings resulted in fantastic image exposure and breathtaking color tones.”

A stand-out moment of the film is when Emma meets TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT), her favorite K-pop group, and participates in a dance challenge with them. When attending the concert later in the video, she was surprised by the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s upgraded Nightography Zoom function. Even from far away and in low-light conditions, Emma was able to capture TXT in vibrant detail as they performed on stage.

Since last year, Emma has been a member of Team Galaxy. The new “Emma Myers in Seoul” film joins the Filmed #withGalaxy campaign which showcases the powerful camera capabilities of Galaxy. Galaxy AI introduces meaningful intelligence aimed at enhancing every part of life, especially the phone’s most fundamental role: communication. When you need to defy language barriers, Galaxy S24 makes it easier than ever. Chat with another student or colleague from abroad. Book a reservation while on vacation in another country. It’s all possible with Live Translate,² two-way, real-time voice and text translations of phone calls within the native app. No third-party apps are required, and on-device AI keeps conversations completely private.

With Interpreter, live conversations can be instantly translated on a split-screen view so people standing opposite each other can read a text transcription of what the other person has said. It even works without cellular data or Wi-Fi.

For messages and other apps, Chat Assist can help perfect conversational tones to ensure communication sounds as it was intended: like a polite message to a coworker or a short and catchy phrase for a social media caption.³ AI built into Samsung Keyboard can also translate messages in real time in 13 languages.⁴ In the car, Android Auto⁵ will automatically summarize incoming messages and suggest relevant replies and actions, like sending someone your ETA, so you can stay connected while staying focused on the road.

Organization also gets a big boost with Note Assist⁶ in Samsung Notes, featuring AI-generated summaries, template creation that streamlines notes with pre-made formats and cover creation to make notes easy to spot with a brief preview. For voice recordings, when there are multiple speakers, Transcript Assist⁷ uses AI and Speech-to-Text technology to transcribe, summarize and even translate recordings.

Samsung Electronics and Google Cloud today announced a new multi-year partnership to bring Google Cloud’s generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology to Samsung smartphone users around the globe. Starting with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series announced today at Galaxy Unpacked in San Jose, California, Samsung will be the first Google Cloud partner to deploy Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI via the cloud to their smartphone devices.

Samsung is the first Google Cloud partner to deploy Gemini Pro on Vertex AI to consumers. Built from the ground up to be multimodal, Gemini can generalize and seamlessly understand, operate across, and combine different types of information including text, code, images, and video. Starting with Samsung-native applications, users can take advantage of the summarization feature across Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard.¹ Gemini Pro on Vertex AI provides Samsung with critical Google Cloud features, including security, safety, privacy, and data compliance.

Galaxy S24 series users can also immediately benefit from Imagen 2, Google’s most advanced text-to-image diffusion technology from Google DeepMind to date.
